- Abstract
Over the millennia, the development of the society has led us to swim across the wars, socio-economic and political instabilities, natural disasters and unfavourable climate change thereby causing challenges to the carrying capacity of the Earth and endangering the survival of the future generations. Thus, the need for attaining a balance between environmental protection and socio-economic development of humans, and between the present and future needs, was felt by the intellectuals and researchers. As a solution to this, the concept of sustainable development evolved. Sustainable development aims to integrate social, economic and environmental approaches towards holistic development of mankind. However, the major challenges of sustainable development include adapting and mitigating global climate change, implementing disaster risk management, sustainably optimizing production and consumption activities, and poverty reduction. Hence, managing the strategies and policies of achieving sustainable development is essential. In this context, the present volume contains 16 scholarly papers, authored by experts in the field, which not only provide an overview of various aspects of the management of sustainable development, but also give an analytical account of the issues and challenges associated with it.
