This book presents current research in privacy-preserving protocols for smart grids. It contains several approaches and compares them analytically and by means of simulation. In particular, the book introduces asymmetric DC-Nets, which offer an ideal combination of performance and features in comparison with homomorphic encryption; data anonymization via cryptographic protocols; and data obfuscation by means of noise injection or by means of the installation of storage banks. The author shows that this theory can be leveraged into several application scenarios, and how asymmetric DC-Nets are generalizations of additive homomorphic encryption schemes and abstractions of symmetric DC-Nets. The book provides the reader with an understanding about smart grid scenarios, the privacy problem, and the mathematics and algorithms used to solve it.

The debate over eHealth is alive as never before. Supporters suggest that it will result in dramatic innovations in healthcare, including a giant leap towards patient-centered care, new opportunities to improve effectiveness, and enhanced wellness and quality of life. In addition, the growing market value of investments in health IT suggests that eHealth can offer at least a partial cure for the current economic stagnation. Detractors counter these arguments by claiming that eHealth has already failed: the UK Department of Health has shut down the NHS National Program for IT, Google has discontinued its Health flagship, and doubts have arisen over privacy safeguards for both patients and medical professionals. This book briefly explains why caregivers, professionals, technicians, patients, politicians, and others should all consider themselves stakeholders in eHealth. Like many other incipient technologies, Web services are still surrounded by a tremendous level of noise. This noise results from the always dangerous combination of wishful thinking on the part of research and industry and of a lack of clear understanding of how Web services came to be. On the one hand, multiple contradictory interpretations are created by the many attempts to realign existing technology and strategies with Web services. On the other hand, the emphasis on what could be done with Web services in the future often makes us lose track of what can be really done with Web services today and in the short term. These factors make it extremely difficult to get a coherent picture of what Web services are, what they contribute, and where they will be applied. Alonso and his co-authors deliberately take a step back. Based on their academic and industrial experience with middleware and enterprise application integration systems, they describe the fundamental concepts behind the notion of Web services and present them as the natural evolution of conventional middleware, necessary to meet the challenges of the Web and of B2B application integration. A frustrating limitation is that people have to start their session over again from the beginning at each interaction device change. This book reports results based on the work in the OPEN project. It provides solutions able to address three key aspects: device change, state persistence and content adaptation. There is a lack of migratory services technology for the migration of applications in different usage scenarios. This book offers a general and open migratory service platform solution based on a sound and innovative scientific approach developed by a multi-disciplinary consortium combining the expertise of three technological world leaders, three well-known research organizations and one SME.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on the Theory of Information Retrieval, ICTIR 2011, held in Bertinoro, Italy, in September 2011. This volume constitutes the proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Trust Management, held in Pisa, Italy during 16–19 May 2006. The conference followed successful International Conferences in Crete in 2003, Oxford in 2004 and Paris in 2005. The?rst three conferences were organized by iTrust, which was a working group funded as a thematic network by the Future and Emerging Technologies(FET) unit of the Information Society Technologies(IST) program of the European Union. The purpose of the iTrust working group was to provide a forum for cro- disciplinary investigation of the applications of trust as a means of increasing security, building con?dence and facilitating collaboration in dynamic open s- tems. The aim of the iTrust conference series is to provide a common forum, bringing together researchers from di?erent academic branches, such as the technology-oriented disciplines, law, social sciences and philosophy, in order to develop a deeper and more fundamental understanding of the issues and ch- lenges in the area of trust management in dynamic open systems. The response to this conference was excellent; from the 88 papers submitted to the conference, we selected 30 full papers for presentation. The program also included one keynote address, given by Cristiano Castelfranchi; an industrial panel; 7 technology demonstrations; and a full day of tutorials.

IBWAS 2009, the Iberic Conference on Web Applications Security, was the first international conference organized by both the OWASP Portuguese and Spanish ch- ters in order to join the international Web application security academic and industry communities to present and discuss the major aspects of Web applications security. There is currently a change in the information systems development paradigm. The emergence of Web 2. 0 technologies led to the extensive deployment and use of W- based applications and Web services as a way to develop new and flexible information systems. Such systems are easy to develop, deploy and maintain and they demonstrate impressive features for users, resulting in their current wide use. The “social” features of these technologies create the necessary “massification” effects that make millions of users share their own personal information and content over large web-based int- active platforms. Corporations, businesses and governments all over the world are also developing and deploying more and more applications to interact with their bu- nesses, customers, suppliers and citizens to enable stronger and tighter relations with all of them. Moreover, legacy non-Web systems are being ported to this new intrin- cally connected environment. IBWAS 2009 brought together application security experts, researchers, educators and practitioners from industry, academia and international communities such as OWASP, in order to discuss open problems and new solutions in application security. In the context of this track, academic researchers were able to combine interesting results with the experience of practitioners and software engineers.

The Second International Workshop on Traffic Monitoring and Analysis (TMA 2010) was an initiative of the COST Action IC0703'Data Traffic Monitoring and Analysis: Theory, Techniques, Tools and Applications for the Future Networks'(http:// www.tma-portal.eu/cost-tma-action). The COST program is an intergovernmental framework for European cooperation in science and technology, promoting the coordination of nationally funded research on a European level. Each COST Action aims at reducing the fragmentation in - search and opening the European research area to cooperation worldwide. Traffic monitoring and analysis (TMA) is nowadays an important research topic within the field of computer networks. It involves many research groups worldwide that are collectively advancing our understanding of the Internet. The importance of TMA research is motivated by the fact that modern packet n- works are highly complex and ever-evolving objects. Understanding, developing and managing such environments is difficult and expensive in practice. Traffic monitoring is a key methodology for understanding telecommunication technology and improving its operation, and the recent advances in this field suggest that evolved TMA-based techniques can play a key role in the operation of real networks.

This book constitutes the post-proceedings of the International Workshop on Ontology, Conceptualization and Epistemology for Information Systems, Software Engineering and Service Sciences (ONTOSE 2010), held at the CAiSE 2010 conference in Hammamet, Tunisia, June, 2010. The IFIP World Computer Congress (WCC) is one of the most important conferences in the area of computer science at the worldwide level and it has a federated structure, which takes into account the rapidly growing and expanding interests in this area. Informatics is rapidly changing and becoming more and more connected to a number of human and social science disciplines. Human–computer interaction is now a mature and still dynamically evolving part of this area, which is represented in IFIP by the Technical Committee 13 on HCI. In this WCC edition it was interesting and useful to have again a Symposium on Human–Computer Interaction in order to p- sent and discuss a number of contributions in this field. There has been increasing awareness among designers of interactive systems of the importance of designing for usability, but we are still far from having products that are really usable, and usability can mean different things depending on the app- cation domain. We are all aware that too many users of current technology often feel frustrated because computer systems are not compatible with their abilities and needs in existing work practices. As designers of tomorrow's technology, we have the - sponsibility of creating computer artifacts that would permit better user experience with the various computing devices, so that users may enjoy more satisfying expe- ences with information and communications technologies.

This volume contains papers from the technical program of the 6th European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC 2009), held from May 31 to June 4, 2009, in Heraklion, Greece.
