This book is a curated collection of international chapters focused on the reform of K-12 schools. Three key, yet different cultural, economic, and political settings are highlighted: Australia, the UK, and the US. Within their own context, each author details the required reforms that would maximize learning for all students. The intersectionalities of factors such a race, gender, class, ethnicity, disability, language, and economic inequities, are interrogated for their impact on the efficacy of reform strategies. Authors explore both a range of dysfunctional factors which have historically limited the efficacy of school reform initiatives, and detail a variety of forward-looking and cutting edge alternative reforms. Thus, this text can serve to stimulate a much need dialogue about the reconceptualization of schools in the future. Moreover, the cross-cultural analysis can focus this dialogue on both the similarities and differences in varying cultural settings.

The Laboratory School is presumably the most famous experimental school of the progressive education movement. Founded in 1894 by John Dewey and President William R. Harper, the Laboratory School existed at the University of Chicago for seven and a half years, and even after more than a century, remains a beacon of hope and inspiration for many educators. The present volume ventures to provide the first institutional history of the Laboratory School and to situate the school in its contemporary context. Drawing on new archival and historical materials, the book tells the story of a legendary school experiment that experienced a steep rise and a dramatic fall due to unsuitable structures and unfortunate decisions.

The book explores the evolving relationships between parents and children, the significance of the Jewish school in their lives, how young people think about religious practices, and their lives in the UK. It addresses issues related to families and schooling and pays special attention to the transitions to secondary school and then to life opportunities in the following years. It also uncovers the effect of these transitions on the family, and of the family on those transitions. The book views these phenomena through the prism of a ten-year period from when research participants were eleven years old until they were twenty-one, drawing on a range of theoretical frameworks to help make sense of what was observed. The data help clarify how Jewish schools function as both public and community-based institutions, and what they do and do not contribute to the lives of young people. The research reported includes large scale survey data sets as well as repeated in-depth interviewswith parents and their children. The findings have multiple implications for practitioners, policy makers and researchers as they seek ways to understand and engage with families and schools. This book also appeals to researchers who are interested in the development of religious and cultural identity in the context of minority groups within multicultural societies.

This book examines the impact of neoliberalism on the academisation of the English school system. The growth of multi-academy trusts (MATs) has been a significant change in the English educational landscape. While some schools have been forced to join MATs, many of them have made this change because their governing board has chosen to do so. The author of this book examines the reasons why many governing bodies have still decided to join a MAT, despite numerous controversies linked to them. He applies the theory that neoliberalism perpetuates itself by creating crises which require more neoliberal policy solutions. Using three case-study schools, the extent to which various crises in the English education system have encouraged governing boards to join MATs is studied. The book will be of interest to academics and students of education policy, schooling, and the sociology of education.

This book seeks to address the ways in which changing discourses of Britishness and British Values both impact upon young people in their education and are expressed by them growing up in multicultural Britain, a nation battling the consequences of Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic. The author considers the intersectional relationship between identity, citizenship and belonging, as well as the ways that politicisation of culture and faith affect young people's sense of Britishness and belonging, particularly through policies such as the Prevent duty. This book offers a unique exploration of attachment aware schools, bringing together empirical teacher views along with wider theoretical and policy perspectives. Arising from new research of members of the International Successful School Principalship Project, this book presents cases of school and leadership success from across 12 countries. It provides critically informed writing, informed by ecological systems theory, which questions the uncritical application of single lens, adjectival leadership models, challenges critical theorists'views of teachers'and leaders'as necessarily compliant with so-called neoliberal policy agendas. In their place, the chapters provide compelling evidence not only of who successful leaders are and what they do, but how they do it as they meet and manage the challenges of building and sustaining success in uncertain times in a range of cultures and social contexts. The present work investigates professional self-concept domains of pre-service teachers of the teaching degree programs'Teaching at Elementary Schools'and'Special Education'in two different studies. The first study investigates whether and to what extent pre-service teachers'professional self-concepts - with regard to planning and implementing inclusive education and cooperation with colleagues - can be fostered by a university-based learning unit on teacher cooperation in the inclusive classroom. In the second study, differences in the development of pre-service teachers'self-concepts are examined in relation to their type of tandem compositions (freely selected tandems vs. randomly assembled tandems) for the planning and implementation of inclusive lessons in elementary schools.

Im Fokus der Arbeit steht der Übergang von der Schule zur Hochschule, explizit die Überzeugungen der Studierenden zum Zusammenhang zwischen Schulmathematik und Hochschulmathematik sowie die Überzeugungen der Studierenden zur Relevanz der Hochschulmathematik für die zukünftige Lehrtätigkeit. Neben einer theoretisch fundierten Begriffsbildung rund um die Problematik der doppelten Diskontinuität basieren die Erkenntnisse der Studie auf quantitativen Daten, die mittels Fragebogen zu Beginn des Studiums und zum Ende des ersten Semesters an drei deutschen Universitäten erhoben wurden. Übergeordnetes Ziel ist es herauszuarbeiten, mit welchen Kontinuitätsüberzeugungen Grundschullehramtsstudierende ins Studium starten und welchen Einfluss das erste Semester auf diese Überzeugungen hat. Die Daten zeigen, dass die Problematik der doppelten Diskontinuität im Grundschullehramtsstudium aktuell ist und auch schon zu Studienbeginn von der Universität abhängen könnte, an der studiert wird. Zudem zeigt die Studie vielfältige Ergebnisse zu bestimmten Überzeugungen, zu denen auch Wechselwirkungen zwischen Überzeugungen und Studium analysiert werden.

This volume provides a broad outlook on migrant youth and schooling in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and the United Kingdom. It explores empirically how these young people—who range from the first to the third generation—position themselves in relation to school, friendships, language-use, aspirations, and the expectations placed upon them. The book also examines the role of a variety of professionals, street-level bureaucrats, and other key actors in framing, representing, problematizing and ultimately contributing to shaping the experiences of these young people. Contemporary contextual challenges for educational advancement are particularly highlighted, as are key issues of cultural representation and recognition. Several contributions also focus on sub-groups within the immigrant-origin population that have so far only received a limited attention in the literature, such as youth in rural areas, LGBT youth, first-in-family college students, and youth who transition out of anti-school subcultures. The contributors stem from a variety of disciplines, ranging from Education and Youth Studies to Social Work and Sociology, and tackle many innovative themes, such as peer violence, special needs education, and artistic interventions, among many others. Through this original perspective and comparative outlook, the book makes an important contribution to the literature on youth, migration, identity, and education. Der Band greift Überlegungen auf, die an postcolonial studies im erziehungswissenschaftlichen Kontext anschließen. Schule als Ort der Bildung, aber auch häufig als Ort von Othering und Diskriminierung wird hierbei in den Blick genommen. Die internationale Fachdebatte wird für die deutschsprachige Bildungsforschung erschlossen, gebündelt und in den hiesigen Kontext transferiert. Ziel ist es, den Blick auf Bildung, Schule und die meist verdeckt mitlaufenden Themen zu erweitern, für Diskriminierungswirkungen der Bildungsinstitutionen zu sensibilisieren und der epistemologischen Gewalt eine Dekonstruktion hegemonialen Wissens entgegenzusetzen.

Ob Personen mit atypischen Verläufen durch das schulische Bildungssystem unterschiedlich hohe Bildungserträge von Personen mit typischen Bildungsverläufen erzielen, untersucht das vorliegende Buch für verschiedene Bildungs- und Lebensetappen anhand multivariater Vergleiche für nichtmonetäre und monetäre Ertragsvariablen. Hierzu werden Bildungsverläufe von mehr als 41.000 Personen aus drei Startkohorten des Nationalen Bildungspanels aufbereitet und typisiert. Dies verschafft eine repräsentative Datenbasis für die Quantifizierung atypischer schulischer Bildungsverläufe in der Sekundarstufe sowie bei Studienstart und nach Beginn der Erwerbstätigkeit. Die Analysen identifizieren statistisch bedeutsame Divergenzen in nichtmonetären und monetären Erträgen mit kurz-, mittel- und langfristigem Abstand zu atypischen Wechseln während des schulischen Bildungsverlaufs. Kurz- und mittelfristig zeigen sich Einflüsse auf die Lebenszufriedenheit und erreichte Abschlüsse. Monetäre Unterschiede sind für Personen mit atypischen Verläufen auch langfristig nachweisbar, wie z. B. für ihren erreichten beruflichen Status.

This book presents the life stories and lived experiences of 12 individuals who transitioned from the sixth form of a further education college in a traditionally working-class area of the UK, to higher education. The author employs narrative inquiry in order to explore the participants'unique perspectives. Theoretically, Bourdieu's concepts of field and habitus are used to explain how these undergraduates adapted to their new circumstances, which in turn altered their ways of thinking and behaving. The book examines the impact of class on student transition, as well as offering insights into why further education warrants renewed focus, and concludes with a set of recommendations for both policy and practice.

This book provides a unique critical perspective on the importance of values to school culture. Diese lässt sich anhand von zwei Dimensionen markieren: der Internationalisie­rung von Schule und der Relevanz von ethnischer Diversität. Wie sich Schulkulturen auf diese Prozesse beziehen und wie sie damit einhergehende Anforderungen bearbeiten, wird theore­tisch mit dem Konzept der Transnationalisierung aufgeschlüsselt. In diesem Buch werden aus Interviews mit Gymnasial- und Gesamtschullehrer•innen in der Logik der Dokumentarischen Methode vier Typen von Lehrer•innenorientierungen zu Bildungs(un-)gerechtigkeit rekonstruiert:•Im wissenschaftsorientierten Typ wird Bildungs(un-)gerechtigkeit beruflich zurückgewiesen.•Im schüler•innenorientierten Typ wird Bildungsungerechtigkeit als den Berufsalltag leitendes Problem markiert.•Im stressorientierten Typ wird Bildungs(un-)gerechtigkeit als zusätzlicher Stressor im Berufsalltag herausgestellt.•Im grenzorientierten Typ wird Bildungsungerechtigkeit entlang eigener Grenzen beruflich problematisiert. Neben der Erkenntnis von vier verschiedenen modi operandi im Umgang mit Bildungs(un-)gerechtigkeit im Lehrer•innenberuf an Gymnasien und Gesamtschulen wird das Wording als zentral herausgestellt, um Kategorisierungen, Bewertungen und Reifizierungspotenzial aus dem Konzept zu nehmen.Zudem sind eine Reflexion der eigenen Berufsbiografie und sozialer Positionierungen sowie die Inszenierung des eigenen beruflichen Ethos wichtig, um (Nicht-)Passungskonsequenzen im schulischen Kontext zu verringern.

Die letzten Jahrzehnte, insbesondere die letzten drei Jahrzehnte, haben die Gemüter der kunstpädagogischen Fachwissenschaft nach der Frage einer fachspezifischen Einbindung digitaler Medientechnologien in kunstgemäße Lehr- und Lernszenarien bewegt. In der kunstpädagogischen Praxis und fachwissenschaftlichen Theorie lassen sich jedoch bislang nur weitgehend punktuelle und exemplarische Ansätze dieser Bestrebungen und keine flächendeckende Einbindung in kunstpädagogische Konzepte ausmachen. Mit der vorliegenden theoretischen und empirischen Studie wird der Frage nachgegangen, inwiefern die Kunstgemäßheit, insbesondere im Kontext der Anwendung digitaler Medientechnologien, im Wege einer Kooperation mit Künstlerpersönlichkeiten in Kombination mit außerschulischen kunstpädagogischen Lernsettings, gefördert werden und unter welchen Bedingungen der sich daraus ergebende didaktisch-methodische Dreiklang fachspezifisch-kunstgemäße kreative Denk- und Handlungsprozesse von Schüler:innen nachhaltig professionalisieren kann.

This book documents an informal system of education that emerged in Ireland between the late 1750s and the end of the century, a system that operated largely without funding or direction by church or state. In a society as divided as eighteenth-century Ireland, it is remarkable that such a system could succeed, paving the way for the more formal reforms of Irish education that followed in the nineteenth century. Based on detailed evidence from newspaper advertisements, directories, educational prospectuses, textbooks, and other print documents from the period as well as previously unexamined manuscript resources, the author describes this system and how it functioned, emphasizing the transnational dimensions of print culture, English literature, and education reform.

Das Buch bestimmt die Verhältnisse von Schule und Transnationalisierung angesichts globaler Migrations- und Fluchtbewegungen sowie vor dem Hintergrund zunehmender Internationalisierungs- und Digitalisierungsprozesse. Grenzüberschreitende Beziehungen und Verflechtungen von Schule und schulischen Akteuren sind in der Folge Bestandteil des schulischen Alltags. Mit Blick auf die Verknüpfung mit Bildung lassen sich zwei ungleichheitsrelevante Diskurse unterscheiden: Mobilität und Migration. Während Mobilität im Kontext Schule als erstrebenswerte Norm gilt, wird Migration vielfach als problematisch betrachtet.

Hunde in der Schule und im Unterricht einzusetzen, erscheint mehr und mehr etabliert; eine schulpädagogische Auseinandersetzung mit diesem Phänomen ist allerdings bislang ausgeblieben. Diese nimmt sich der Band vor: Anhand von Fallstudien zur Programmatik, Praxis und Deutung des Hundeeinsatzes an Schulen wird nach seiner möglichen pädagogischen Bedeutung gefragt. Durch die Analysen zeigt sich jedoch, dass ihm keinerlei pädagogische Idee innewohnt. Angesichts dieses Befundes erscheint aufklärungsbedürftig, wieso der Einsatz von Hunden in Schule und Unterricht, obschon als a-pädagogisch einzuschätzen, in Theorie und Praxis derart auf Anklang stößt.

This book chronicles the school envisioned by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1933 to serve Arthurdale, the New Deal government-created community in north-central West Virginia. Arthurdale was founded to house unemployed miners and their families and provide them with opportunities to receive healthcare and obtain gainful employment. Roosevelt had a particular interest in the education of children, feeling that education and social life were profoundly intertwined within a community. With that in mind, in 1934, she hired Elsie Ripley Clapp—an educator and leader in the Progressive Education movement—to design and implement the school, as well as oversee the social life of Arthurdale as a whole. In addition to covering the Arthurdale School's birth, life, and dissolution, Rosenberg discusses how the lessons of the school might serve the culture of education today, especially as an element of a comprehensive approach to community revitalization.

This book addresses the impact of inclusion on the performance of students with and without special needs in Lebanese schools. Interviews that were conducted and analyzed with a Grounded Theory approach show that subject positions assigned to students concerning plurilingualism shape how they reflect on experiences in school from a retrospective focus. By turning to a raciolinguistic perspective and drawing on subjectivation theory, the terms used to signify dominantly found re-positionings are ‘raciolinguistic norm'and ‘raciolinguistic Other'. The results highlight the necessity of focusing in more detail on how listening positionalities shape language use in society and in schools specifically.

Der Ruf nach Optimierung als Modus des Organisierens ist allenthalben zu vernehmen. Aber ist Optimierung eine pädagogisch sinnvolle oder aus erziehungswissenschaftlicher Sicht eher kritisch zu beurteilende organisationale Strategie? Das Buch geht dieser Frage nach und spannt den Bogen in unterschiedlichste Handlungsfelder des Organisierens auf: Diese reichen von Institutionen des Bildungssystems wie Schule und Hochschule bis hin zu zivilgesellschaftlichen, öffentlichen oder privatwirtschaftlichen Organisationen ohne explizit pädagogische Zielsetzung. Die Frage nach dem Umgang mit dem Thema Optimierung betrifft insofern auch die vielfältigen Kontexte des Theorie-Praxis-Transfers und damit die Erziehungswissenschaft insgesamt sowie die Organisationspädagogik als Querschnittsdisziplin. Beiträge aus unterschiedlichen Bereichen der Erziehungswissenschaft gehen der Frage nach, wie der Optimierungsdiskurs – gerade auch im Lichte globaler Entwicklungen – ein reflexives Selbstverhältnis von Disziplin, Organisationen und Profession(ell)en anregen kann, nicht zuletzt im Hinblick auf Zukunftspotenziale jenseits der Optimierung.

Wie entfaltet sich Bildung angesichts der Handlungsmöglichkeiten in digitalen Medien? In dieser Grounded-Theory Studie werden Fragen zu Medienbildung und Medienhandeln verknüpft. Das Phänomen Instant-Messaging-Gruppen in Schulklassen steht im Zentrum der Analyse. Ergebnis ist ein Theoriemodell zur Rekonstruktion der Herstellung von Selbst- und Weltrelationen auf materialer, sozialer und biografischer Ebene im Prozess der Konstruktion von Handlungskontexten, Themen und sozialen Praktiken der Medienkommunikation mit dem Potenzial zur Erweiterung auf andere Soziale Medien.

Der internationale Steuerungsimpuls der UN-Behindertenrechtskonvention (UN-BRK) löste mit seinem Inkrafttreten in Deutschland im Jahr 2009 einen regelrechten ‚Inklusionsschock‘ für die traditionell segregativ ausgerichteten Bildungssysteme aus.Robert Kruschel geht in dieser Studie mit Hilfe der Governance-Perspektive der Frage nach, wie das Schulsystem Schleswig-Holsteins mit seinen Akteuren zwischen 2008 und 2014 auf diese Herausforderung reagierte. Im Fokus des Forschungsinteresses stehen die Handlungskoordination staatlicher und nicht-staatlicher Akteure im Mehrebenensystem, die Intentionen von Steuerungsimpulsen und die Wirkungen von Steuerungsbemühungen im Prozess der Umsetzung der UN-BRK. Für drei Untersuchungsphasen werden dabei die zentralen Governance-Regime herausgearbeitet und vergleichend vor dem historischen Kontext eingeordnet. Auf diese Weise werden neue Einsichten über die Ebenen der bildungspolitischen Willensbildung, Diskussion und Aktionsplanung gewonnen.

Die vorliegende Studie nimmt eine bislang wenig betrachtete Schnittstelle von Kindheitsforschung, Schul- und Sozialpädagogik in den Blick: die schulischen Verläufe von Kindern in Heimerziehung. Es wird untersucht, in welcher Weise die Kinder im Kontext ihrer Gesamtbiographie ihre schulischen Erfahrungen und insbesondere den Übergang in die weiterführende Schule – als ein Selektionsereignis im deutschen Bildungssystem – thematisieren. Dabei wird an theoretische Ansätze aus der sozialen Ungleichheitsforschung, der Übergangs- und der Biographieforschung angeknüpft. Methodisch basiert die Studie auf narrativ-biographischen Interviews mit den Kindern vor dem Übergang sowie fokussierten narrativen Interviews nach dem Übergang, die mit der dokumentarischen Methode ausgewertet werden. Im Ergebnis werden drei Typen herausgearbeitet, die die biographische Selbstthematisierung der Kinder und ihre Verhandlung des Übergangs in die weiterführende Schule beschreiben. Dies wird schließlich im Kontextvon Bildungsungleichheit diskutiert. Mit der Studie wird eine Forschungslücke geschlossen, denn Kinder während der Zeit der Unterbringung in Heimerziehung sind insgesamt und vor allem hinsichtlich ihrer schulischen Wege bisher kaum erforscht.

This book explores the complex and various forms that privatization of education takes on a global scale at different ages of schooling. Through the spread of neoliberal policies in education both in the global North and the global South, the book suggests that this process is leading to new forms of schooling and socio-spatial dynamics linked to the creation of increasingly competitive school markets. The book highlights some of the main issues that such competition generates by focusing on the acceleration of the segregative processes on one hand but also on the alternatives that are emerging regarding this global context on the other hand. It considers processes of domination, hegemony, but also exclusion and segregation, eventually exploring contradictions inherent to societies. It presents innovative empirical and conceptual research by international scholars from the fields of social geography, sociology, history and demography in the United States, Lebanon, France, Afghanistan and Chile, thereby transcending disciplinary boundaries. Developed in under or unexplored contexts, the book broadens the reflection to social representations, individual and collective strategies, adaptation, innovation and also resistances.

Digital tools and pedagogies in public higher education are unfolding their potential by providing large groups of students with automated, continuous learning and feedback opportunities. However, most of the existing studies are cross-sectional, unidirectional and focus on a limited selection of relevant target variables and instructional features. In a field study, Andreas Maur used longitudinal latent structural equation modelling with a large sample of students to analyse the interrelations between formative feedback from electronic quizzes and different facets of the control value theory of achievement emotions. The results suggest that regular quizzes most consistently improve self-efficacy, anxiety, effort, course enjoyment, and hopelessness over time. Only feedback effects related to intrinsic motivation were consistently less effective for female and less proficient students, and for students in traditional versus flipped classrooms. These findings highlight the need to scale up formative feedback in higher education and to cultivate feedback systems with higher levels of sophistication, adaptability, and gamification mechanics.

Das Buch untersucht Organisationen aus theoretischer, empirischer und praxisbezogener Perspektive – vor allem mit Blick auf das Wechselspiel zwischen diesen drei Zugängen. Jenseits eines dichotomen Verhältnisses der Begriffe ‚Theorie‘ und ‚Praxis‘ können dabei die komplexen Relationen, Ambivalenzen und Widersprüche in Bezug auf die Theorie und Praxis von Organisationen thematisiert und Chancen und Optionen neuer Theorie-Praxis-Relationierungen aus organisationspädagogischer Perspektive ausgelotet werden.

In der ethnographischen Studie wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie Kinder am Angebot der institutionellen Schulvorbereitung teilnehmen bzw. wie sie dieses (mit-)hervorbringen. Hierfür wurden die Kinder über ihr letztes Kindergartenjahr hinweg während dieses Arrangements begleitet und teilnehmend beobachtet. Neben den aktuellen Konzepten der Kindheitsforschung spielen hierzu praxistheoretische Zugänge eine zentrale Rolle und deren relationale Perspektive auf Schulvorbereitung, als soziales Gefüge aus Akteur:innen, Artefakten und den zugrundeliegenden Strukturen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, wie sich Kinder innerhalb der Schulvorbereitung zu Kompliz:innen der Fachkräfte und deren pädagogischen Schulvorbereitungsprogramme entwickeln. Mit der „Ambitionierten Komplizenschaft“ stellt die Arbeit darüber hinaus eine konzeptionelle Weiterentwicklung vor, indem sie das besondere Engagement der beobachteten Kinder während der Schulvorbereitung betont.

Der Band versammelt aktuelle empirische Beobachtungen sowie theoretische und methodologische Überlegungen zur Erforschung von Schule und Unterricht aus der Perspektive ethnographischer Bildungsforschung. Der gemeinsame Fokus der Beiträge liegt auf schulischen Praktiken, wie sie im Alltag konstituiert, vollzogen und modifiziert werden. Zudem werden Fragen ethnographischer Beobachtung und analytischer Beschreibung dieser Praktiken bearbeitet. Für US-amerikanische Schulen wurden seit der Bürgerrechtsbewegung Antidiskriminierungsgesetze und -strategien entwickelt bzw. erkämpft, doch bleibt Rassismus für sie weiterhin ein wirkmächtiges Phänomen. In einer ethnographischen Diskursanalyse untersucht Saskia Terstegen, welche Bedeutsamkeit der Differenzdimension Race in der Schule für die (De-)Privilegierung von Schüler:innen, Lehrer:innen und Adminstrator:innen zukommt. Hierfür werden subjektivierungs-, diskurs- und rassismustheoretische Perspektiven auf Race, whitenessund Widerstand entwickelt. Auf Basis von Daten, die an zwei Highschools zur Zeit der Wahl Donald Trumps zum Präsidenten der USA entstanden sind, wird herausgearbeitet, wie whiteness als schulische Norm anerkannt und herausgefordert wird. Mit dem Konzept des schulischen Raceregimes unterbreitet die Studie einen machttheoretischen Vorschlag, um das Verhältnis der Stabilisierung und Irritation von Rassismus in der Schule vor dem Hintergrund pädagogischer Verhältnisse zu fassen.

Die Studie untersucht, wie neu zugewanderte Schüler•innen an einer Hamburger Sekundarschule integrativ, d.h. sowohl in Regelklassen als auch einer Vorbereitungsklasse, beschult werden. Anhand von ethnographischen Daten wird durch Auswertungsmethoden der Reflexiven Grounded Theory aufgezeigt, wie es zu Prozessen der Inklusion und Exklusion durch sprachliche Bildung kommt. Herausforderungen zeigen sich in strukturell-organisationalen Hürden, während sich Chancen durch das inklusive Selbstverständnis der Schule ergeben, die ihren Unterricht an eine diverse Schüler•innenschaft angepasst hat. So hängt die Möglichkeit der Teilhabe am Regelunterricht letztlich vor allem von Faktoren ab, die alle Schüler•innen gleichermaßen und nicht nur neu zugewanderte betreffen.

With the realization of familial deschooling in Germany, the so-called social movement of the,Freilerner'transgresses a taboo and is therefore under enormous pressure to justify itself. Following on from this, the reconstructive study asks what latent structures of meaning underlie the subjective crisis scenarios about the schooling of children and the ideal concepts of parents in the sense-giving justification of the family deschooling practice. In the course of this, three types of the justification for the familial practice of deschooling, namely defending, charismatizing, and escaping, are empirically established. In this way, the study not only makes an empirically based contribution to a more reflective discourse on alternative educational practices, but also pushes itself into a taboo zone of school pedagogy and educational research in Germany. Because it addresses the school as a historically consolidated, but not as an organization without alternatives for learning andeducational processes of children and adolescents.

This book analyses how children from transnational Japanese-Singaporean families are educated. The author demonstrates that the negotiated educational pathways of these children have significant bearing on the ways in which individual identities of mixedness may be constructed or contested – where notions of mixedness are necessarily recognised for their inherent fluidity, contextuality and contingency. Von Schulen wird eine kontinuierliche Weiterentwicklung sowie Anpassung an sich verändernde Bedingungen gefordert. Ergebnisse aus Inspektionen stellen eine Möglichkeit dar, Schulen bei diesem Prozess zu unterstützen. Dafür muss das Inspektionsfeedback von Schulen bzw. den schulischen Akteuren rekontextualisiert und in schulisches Handeln (Schulentwicklung) umgesetzt werden. Wie die innerschulischen Verarbeitungsprozesse auf Ebene der Einzelschule konkret ablaufen, welche Bedeutung den durch die Inspektion aufgezeigten Entwicklungsbedarfen zukommt und welche Faktoren damit zusammenhängen, ist noch immer unzureichend erforscht. Ziel dieses Buches ist es, erstmals im Längsschnitt über insgesamt vier Ereigniszeitpunkte der Frage nachzugehen, welche Verarbeitungsprozesse und -strategien an Schulen durch wiederkehrende Impulse aus Schulinspektionen erfolgen und in welchem Maße diese durch vorhandene schulische Entwicklungskapazitäten beeinflusst werden. Hierüber können vertiefende Einblickein die Reflexions- und Entwicklungsprozesse und einer etwaigen Veränderung von Entwicklungsschwerpunkten auf Basis von Inspektionsrückmeldungen gewonnen und Aussagen über die Nachhaltigkeit von Schulentwicklungsprozessen getroffen werden
