​This book constitutes the proceedings of the 14th International Workshop on Statistical Atlases and Computational Models of the Heart, STACOM 2023, as well as the Cardiac MRI Reconstruction Challenge, CMRxRecon Challenge. There was a total of 53 submissions to the workshop. The 24 regular workshop papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 29 paper submissions. They deal with cardiac segmentation, modelling, strain quantification, registration, statistical shape analysis, and quality control. In addition, 21 papers from the CMRxRecon challenge are included in this volume. They focus on fast CMR image reconstruction and provide a benchmark dataset that enables the broader research community to promote advances in this area of research.

Statistics is central in the biosciences, social sciences and other disciplines, yet many students often struggle to learn how to perform statistical tests, and to understand how and why statistical tests work. Although there are many approaches to teaching statistics, a common framework exists between them: starting with probability and distributions, then sampling from distribution and descriptive statistics and later introducing both simple and complex statistical tests, typically ending with regression analysis (linear models).This book proposes to reverse the way statistics is taught, by starting with the introduction of linear models. Today, many statisticians know that the one unifying principle of statistical tests is that most of them are instances of linear models. This teaching method has two advantages: all statistical tests in a course can be presented under the same unifying framework, simplifying things; second, linear models can be expressed as lines over squared paper, replacing any equation with a drawing. This book explains how and why statistics works without using a single equation, just lines and squares over grid paper. The reader will have the opportunity to work through the examples and compute sums of squares by just drawing and counting, and finally evaluating whether observed differences are statistically significant by using the tables provided. Intended for students, scientists and those with little prior knowledge of statistics, this book is for all with simple and clear examples, computations and drawings helping the reader to not only do statistical tests but also understand statistics.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 13th International Workshop on Statistical Atlases and Computational Models of the Heart, STACOM 2022, held in conjunction with the 25th MICCAI conference. The 34 regular workshop papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected after being revised and deal with topics such as: common cardiac segmentation and modelling problems to more advanced generative modelling for ageing hearts, learning cardiac motion using biomechanical networks, physics-informed neural networks for left atrial appendage occlusion, biventricular mechanics for Tetralogy of Fallot, ventricular arrhythmia prediction by using graph convolutional network, and deeper analysis of racial and sex biases from machine learning-based cardiac segmentation. In addition, 14 papers from the CMRxMotion challenge are included in the proceedings which aim to assess the effects of respiratory motion on cardiac MRI (CMR) imaging quality and examine the robustness of segmentation models in face of respiratory motion artefacts. A total of 48 submissions to the workshop was received.

This book compiles theoretical developments on statistical inference for time series and related models in honor of Masanobu Taniguchi's 70th birthday. It covers models such as long-range dependence models, nonlinear conditionally heteroscedastic time series, locally stationary processes, integer-valued time series, Lévy Processes, complex-valued time series, categorical time series, exclusive topic models, and copula models. Many cutting-edge methods such as empirical likelihood methods, quantile regression, portmanteau tests, rank-based inference, change-point detection, testing for the goodness-of-fit, higher-order asymptotic expansion, minimum contrast estimation, optimal transportation, and topological methods are proposed, considered, or applied to complex data based on the statistical inference for stochastic processes.The performances of these methods are illustrated by a variety of data analyses. This collection of original papers provides the reader with comprehensive and state-of-the-art theoretical works on time series and related models. It contains deep and profound treatments of the asymptotic theory of statistical inference. In addition, many specialized methodologies based on the asymptotic theory are presented in a simple way for a wide variety of statistical models. This book constitutes late breaking papers from the 23rd International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2021, which was held in July 2021. The conference was planned to take place in Washington DC, USA but had to change to a virtual conference mode due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 5222 individuals from academia, research institutes, industry, and governmental agencies from 81 countries submitted contributions, and 1276 papers and 241 posters were included in the volumes of the proceedings that were published before the start of the conference. Additionally, 174 papers and 146 posters are included in the volumes of the proceedings published after the conference, as “Late Breaking Work” (papers and posters). The contributions thoroughly cover the entire field of HCI, addressing major advances in knowledge and effective use of computers in a variety of application areas.

This book constitutes late breaking papers from the 22nd International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2020, which was held in July 2020. The conference was planned to take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, but had to change to a virtual conference mode due to the COVID-19 pandemic.From a total of 6326 submissions, a total of 1439 papers and 238 posters have been accepted for publication in the HCII 2020 proceedings before the conference took place. In addition, a total of 333 papers and 144 posters are included in the volumes of the proceedings published after the conference as “Late Breaking Work” (papers and posters). These contributions address the latest research and development efforts in the field and highlight the human aspects of design and use of computing systems. The 54 late breaking papers address topics such as Interaction, Knowledge and Social Media.

This book deals with the science of science by applying network science methods to citation networks and uniquely presents a physics-inspired model of citation dynamics. This stochastic model of citation dynamics is based on a well-known copying or recursive search mechanism. The measurements covered in this text yield parameters of the model and reveal that citation dynamics of scientific papers is not linear, as was previously assumed. This nonlinearity has far-reaching consequences including non-stationary citation distributions, diverging citation trajectories of similar papers, and runaways or'immortal papers'with an infinite citation lifespan. The author shows us that nonlinear stochastic models of citation dynamics can be the basis for a quantitative probabilistic prediction of citation dynamics of individual papers and of the overall journal impact factor. This book appeals to students and researchers from differing subject areas working in network science and bibliometrics.

The pioneering research of Hirotugu Akaike has an international reputation for profoundly affecting how data and time series are analyzed and modelled and is highly regarded by the statistical and technological communities of Japan and the world. His 1974 paper'A new look at the statistical model identification'(IEEE Trans Automatic Control, AC-19, 716-723) is one of the most frequently cited papers in the area of engineering, technology, and applied sciences (according to a 1981 Citation Classic of the Institute of Scientific Information). It introduced the broad scientific community to model identification using the methods of Akaike's criterion AIC. The AIC method is cited and applied in almost every area of physical and social science. The best way to learn about the seminal ideas of pioneering researchers is to read their original papers. This book reprints 29 papers of Akaike's more than 140 papers. This book of papers by Akaike is a tribute to his outstanding career and a service to provide students and researchers with access to Akaike's innovative and influential ideas and applications. To provide a commentary on the career of Akaike, the motivations of his ideas, and his many remarkable honors and prizes, this book reprints'A Conversation with Hirotugu Akaike'by David F. Frederick Mosteller has inspired numerous statisticians and other scientists by his creative approach to statistics and its applications. The volume five of Selected Papers of C.R. Rao consists of 32 papers that appeared in various publications from 1985. These papers are selected to showcase some of the fundamental contributions in Characterizations of Probability distributions, density estimation, analysis of multivariate familial data, correspondence analysis, shape and size analysis, signal detection, inference based on quadratic entropy, bootstrap, L-l norm, convex discrepancy function etc., estimation problems in univariate and multivariate linear models and regression models using unified theory of linear estimation, M-estimates, LAD estimates etc. and many more novel concepts and ideas with enormous potential for further research and in which active research is being carried out. The highlight of this volume is the stimulating retrospection of Prof. C.R. Rao about his work spanning the last three score years. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Workshop on Altmetrics for Research Outputs Measurements and Scholarly Information Management, AROSIM 2018, held in Singapore, in January 2018. The 7 revised full papers presented together with two keynote papers and one introduction paper were carefully reviewed and selected from 20 submissions. The workshop will investigate how social media based metrics along with traditional and non-traditional metrics can advance the state-of-the-art in measuring research outputs.

The topics discussed in this book can be classified into three parts:(i) Gaussian processes. The most general and in fact final representation theory of Gaussian processes is included in this book. This theory is still referred to often and its developments are discussed.(ii) White noise analysis. This book includes the notes of the series of lectures delivered in 1975 at Carleton University in Ottawa. They describe the very original idea of introducing the notion of generalized Brownian functionals (nowadays called “generalized white noise functionals”, and sometimes “Hida distribution”.(iii) Variational calculus for random fields. This topic will certainly represent one of the driving research lines for probability theory in the next century, as can be seen from several papers in this volume.

This is the fourth volume of Selected Papers of C. R. Rao consisting of 39 papers published during 1975-1985. These papers represent the development of some of the basic concepts proposed by the author in the fields of unified theory of least squares estimation, weighted distributions, Bayesian statistical inference, generalised inverses Of matrices and their applications in which contemporary research is carried out extensively. Work on solutions of functional equations and their application in characterizations of distributions is also of current interest. Introduction of measures of diversity, quadratic entropy and allied concepts find applications in various fields such as anthropology and social sciences. As in the earlier volumes, the papers that have originally appeared in different publications have been retypeset to maintain uniformity in presentation. The final volume with more papers, an updated bibliography of works and a comprehensive overview of the total opus of Professor C. R. Rao is going to come out soon.

The new version has two additions. First, at the suggestion of Stephen Stigler I we have replaced the Table of Contents by what he calls an Analytic Table of Contents. Following the title of each section or subsection is a description of the content of the section. This material helps the reader in several ways, for example: by giving a synopsis of the book, by explaining where the various data tables are and what they deal with, by telling what theory is described where. We did several distinct full studies for the Federalist papers as well as many minor side studies. Some or all may offer information both to the applied and the theoretical reader. We therefore try to give in this Contents more than the few cryptic words in a section heading to ~peed readers in finding what they want. Seconq, we have prepared an extra chapter dealing with authorship work published from. about 1969 to 1983. Although a chapter cannot compre­ hensively Gover a field where many books now appear, it can mention most ofthe book-length works and the main thread of authorship'studies published in English. We founq biblical authorship studies so extensive and com­ plicated that we thought it worthwhile to indicate some papers that would bring out the controversies that are taking place. We hope we have given the flavor of developments over the 15 years mentioned. We have also corrected a few typographical errors.
