In dit boek maakt de lezer kennis met een aantal nieuwe gezondheidsconcepten. Functioneren is het centrale thema en in het bijzonder wordt aandacht besteed aan de toepassingsmogelijkheden van de International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) van de WHO. De focus van gezondheidszorg is aan het verschuiven: van genezen van ziekten naar bevorderen van gezondheid en welzijn.
