The 2022 Inter-American Yearbook on Human Rights provides an extract of the principal jurisprudence of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Part One contains the Decisions on the Merits of the Commission, and Part Two the Judgments and Decisions of the Court. The Yearbook is partly published as an English-Spanish bilingual edition. La obra Cuestiones de Derecho Internacional, Derechos Humanos y Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible pretende recopilar los estudios académicos llevados a cabo por los autores en el marco de varios programas académicos de postgrado y postdoctorado, tanto de estudiantes como de profesores de la Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio y el Instituto Berg de Derechos Humanos. Significa asimismo esta obra, una iniciativa creada entre Tirant lo Blanch y el Instituto Berg de Derechos Humanos para ofrecer un marco científico y académico de calidad y referencia internacional, que se suma así a sus ya acreditadas bibliotecas y colecciones sobre derechos humanos y Derecho Internacional. Las temáticas que engloba esta obra no pueden ser más actuales y pertinentes en nuestra actual comunidad internacional; una comunidad convulsa, donde la globalización ha venido acentuando los retos que ya, desde principios del siglo XXI, venían apareciendo. Algo acentuado, indudablemente, a raíz de la pandemia de la COVID-19. En efecto, la actual crisis sanitaria ha reactivado todas las alarmas sobre si nuestro modelo cívico y social venía siendo el adecuado; sobre si, efectivamente, le estábamos dando el valor e importancia que merecían a los llamados Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), que no dejan de ser parte esencial de los derechos humanos. Y, sin ninguna duda, ha subrayado lo inevitable: que los derechos humano han de ser la “ideología” hegemónica de la comunidad internacional. Si es que alguna vez, esa necesidad de centralidad de los derechos humanos, estuvo en duda.

De manera reiterada, el siglo XX latinoamericano registró golpes de Estado, regímenes autoritarios y dictaduras militares. Muchas veces la práctica del terrorismo de Estado formó parte de esas experiencias políticas. Un número importante de países tiene como consecuencia un legado de violaciones de los derechos humanos. Argentina, Chile, México y Uruguay ilustran diferentes formas de represión que han afectado a varias generaciones. Esta obra estudia primordialmente las decisiones que han tomado los gobiernos en relación con las demandas de verdad y justicia.

Freedom in the World, the Freedom House flagship survey whose findings have been published annually since 1972, is the standard-setting comparative assessment of global political rights and civil liberties. The survey ratings and narrative reports on 195 countries and fifteen territories are used by policymakers, the media, international corporations, civic activists, and human rights defenders to monitor trends in democracy and track improvements and setbacks in freedom worldwide. The Freedom in the World political rights and civil liberties ratings are determined through a multi-layered process of research and evaluation by a team of regional analysts and eminent scholars. The analysts used a broad range of sources of information, including foreign and domestic news reports, academic studies, nongovernmental organizations, think tanks, individual professional contacts, and visits to the region, in conducting their research. The methodology of the survey is derived in large measure from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and these standards are applied to all countries and territories, irrespective of geographical location, ethnic or religious composition, or level of economic development.

Award-winning Mexican author Tryno Maldonado personally immerses himself in the lives of the students of Ayotzinapa Normal School—victims in the still-unexplained kidnapping tragedy that took place in September 2014. In this narrative, he relives the events leading up to and during the horrific incident in which 43 students were brutalized at the hands of police and militarized narco-gang members, then vanished without a trace.
