Jahrhunderts gesellschaftliche Ungleichheitsstrukturen vor allem durch marxistische Ansätze erklärt wurden und damit ein Objektivitätsanspruch einherging, bestimmen heute vor allem individualisierte Mikroanalysen die sozialwissenschaftliche Perspektive, die Ungleichheiten zwischen Individuen suchen und einen Subjektivitätsanspruch zentrieren. Marxismus und Intersektionalität scheinen manchen aktuell unvereinbar. Demgegenüber wird in diesem Buch gezeigt, dass die Intersektionalitätsforschung erst in Abgrenzung zum Marxismus entstehen konnte und sich daher die Differenzierungslinien beider in Theorie, Methodologie und Methode der Intersektionalität bis heute wiederfinden lassen. This book maps an emerging cycle of films made by Iranian diasporic women filmmakers and produced outside of Iran, focusing on five significant examples: Shirin Neshat's Women Without Men (2009), Sepideh Farsi's Red Rose (2014), Maryam Keshavarz's Circumstance (2011), Ana Lily Amirpour's A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014) and Desiree Akhavan's Appropriate Behaviour (2014). These films speak to the emergence of feminist concerns surrounding gender relations, female subjectivity and sexuality in diasporic filmmaking. This book is a deep dive into the largely unexplored space of BBW “bashes”—multi-day gatherings of fat women and their admirers. Using a range of feminist theories of embodiment and affect, the project is guided by autoethnography and in-depth interviews with twelve participants. Participant experiences are first analyzed with a key focus on experiences that cause grief and disenfranchisement; subsequently, the book looks at experiences that may be radical or revelatory. Existing literature on women career development focuses on western industrialized countries and gives little attention to regions where patriarchy is prevailing like in North African countries. The limited available research in the region takes a business-oriented perspective to investigate the topic and focuses on business process optimization for an increased profitability. In an attempt to close this gap, the present book takes a sociological lens to investigate meanings and interpretations that skilled women in Moroccan organizations give to their experiences. This project sought to understand how Moroccan professional women take decisions about their career path while taking a multi-level approach to examine contextual factors. In this book, Bourdieu's theory of practice was used as a theoretical framework to examine the interplay of the different factors impacting the development of women career paths. Using a qualitative research approach under the interpretivist paradigm, and drawing on in-depth interviews with 10 participants, this research investigated female and male conceptualization of career and work objectives.

During the twentieth century, especially during World War II, female geologists were potrayed as having a glamourous and unique job. Newspapers, the oil industry, and other publications published stories about the glamorous working geologist, comparing them to movie stars and scientists working on the important production of oil. This book explores the image of the female geologist as it changed from the “accomplished” woman of the Victorian era to the professional, and glamourous geologists of World War II and beyond. Women working in geology, especially petroleum geology, embraced the image and some participated in its promotion. In those same newspaper articles, some geologists began to speak out and ultimately discuss some of the problems they experienced while working in the field and in industry. This book investigates the impact of the mediation of menstruation and menstrual activism on young people's knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, and interpersonal relationships. ​Since 2015, the menstrual movement has become increasingly visible on social media and in news media from across the globe. In Great Britain, the menstrual movement brings together a diverse group of activists who aim to reduce menstrual stigma and tackle menstrual inequities. By combining original interviews with 32 menstrual activists and focus groups with 77 young people (including women, men, and non-binary teenagers), this book offers an in-depth exploration of this movement and its impact. This book argues that menstrual stigma has decreased, awareness around related health and social issues has increased, and girls as well as other menstruating young people are feeling an increased sense of connection and solidarity with each other. Menstruation is shifting from a very private experience to one of collective concern. It is evident that social media, and, to some extent, news media, have played a key role in disseminating the discourses and aims of menstrual activists that have engendered some of these changes. Nevertheless, this book also examines how the media have negatively impacted young people and identifies further changes that are necessary for the achievement of gender equality. This book makes a significant contribution not only to the fields of health communication, feminism, social movement studies, and critical menstruation studies, but also provides evidence and recommendations that will be of interest to NGOs, advocacy groups, policymakers, schools, workplaces, and medical professionals. Historically in middle-class Bengali Hindu households it has been the matriarch's responsibility to arrange and maintain the domestic shrine and to perform daily rituals of deity worship and caretaking—termed in this book as domestic shrine traditions. These traditions are often assimilated with the other domestic caretaking labor women are expected to complete for their families. Utilizing a years-long ethnography with Bengali American Hindu women, and drawing from Marxist feminist Social Reproduction Theory, this book argues that domestic shrine traditions are reproductive labor that is essential to the transnational and transgenerational sustenance of Hindu traditions and subjectivities. As the first monograph focused on Hindu women's domestic shrine traditions in the United States, this book illuminates both the value of these traditions for the women who maintain them, and how these traditions connect immigrant Hindus to family and ethno-religious identity in ways unmatched by the public Hindu temple or organization.

Drawing on different understandings of feminisms, this volume archives the ways in which we engage with feminisms and imagine the mundane as a feminist site of resistance against multiple and intersectional marginalisation and oppression. How individual subjects come to their feminist praxis through autoethnographic and other qualitative accounts, and how they offer resistant and decolonial strategies via reflection on their lived and embodied realities. Plural Feminisms spurs a discussion on how structural violence is identified and resisted, and the invisible and emotional labour that goes on behind this resistance. The book documents the resistance strategies feminists employ on a daily basis to survive, and to form and sustain dissident kinships, that remain unread, unheard, overlooked, and excluded from dominant discourses of being and becoming. Through autoethnography, feminist, queer and/or trans and genderqueer, indigenous, Black and racialised, disabled and neurodivergent scholars in the academy reflect on their engagement with feminisms as well as their unique resistance methods-embracing and exploring complexities and challenges that both entail. It foregrounds the critical importance of first-person narratives in developing an expansive understanding of what it means to be a feminist, the different narratives and forms that resistance takes, and the socio-cultural value of subversion.

Although single fathers as primary careers are on the rise, most single-parent households in the US are headed by women. These women are a lucrative market for parenting books and most of these books are aimed at single mothers raising sons. This intersectional study analyses the way in which these advice books draw on mother blame language, misconceptions of neuropsychological research and traditional conceptualisations of masculinity and femininity to convince the mother readers that they are unable to raise a son to be a man. The study further connects the advice books to a cultural backlash against ideas of ‘involved fatherhood'and ‘caring masculinity', exploring how the authors argue for a return to traditional family structures.

This book provides a thorough interdisciplinary analysis of the ways in which artists have engaged with political and feminist grassroots movements to characterise a new direction in the production of feminist art. The authors conceptualise feminist art in Turkey through the lens of feminist philosophy by offering a historical analysis of how feminism and art interacts, analysing emerging feminist artwork and exploring the ways in which feminist art as a form opens alternative political spaces of social collectivities and dissent, to address epistemic injustices.
