This book provides a new framework for analysis of slope nonlinear stochastic seismic dynamic response based on the new theoretical tool of stochastic dynamics. The coupling effects of uncertainty of geological parameters, strong dynamic nonlinearity, and randomness of ground motion are considered in the process of the seismic dynamic stability assessment of slope. In this book, an intensity frequency non-stationary stochastic ground motion model based on time-domain stochastic process description is preliminarily established to characterize the randomness of earthquakes. The spatial distribution random field model of geotechnical parameters is established to describe the time-space variability of geotechnical parameters. Based on the basic theory of stochastic dynamics, the seismic stability performance evaluation method of slope is established. The slope seismic dynamic model test based on large complex shaking table is performed to verify and modify the proposed framework and method. This book sheds new light on the development of nonlinear seismic stochastic dynamics and seismic design of slope engineering.

This book details the theory and applications of finite element (FE) modeling of post-tensioned (PT) concrete structures, and provides the updated MATLAB code (as of 2019). The challenge of modeling PT prestressed concrete structures lies in the treatment of the interface between the concrete and prestressing tendons. Using MATLAB, this study develops an innovative nonlinear FE formulation which incorporates contact techniques and engineering elements to considerably reduce the need of computational power. This FE formulation has the ability to simulate different PT frame systems with fully bonded, fully unbonded or partially bonded tendons, as well as actual sliding behavior and frictional effects in the tendons. It also allows for the accurate simulation of anchor seating loss.

This book presents comprehensive hazard analysis methods for seismic soil liquefaction, providing an update on soil liquefaction by systematically reviewing the phenomenon's occurrence since the beginning of this century. It also puts forward a range of advanced research methods including in-situ tests, laboratory studies, physical model tests, numerical simulation, and performance-based assessment. Recent seismic liquefaction-related damage to soils and foundations demonstrate the increasing need for the comprehensive hazard analysis of seismic soil liquefaction in order to mitigate this damage and protect human lives. As such the book addresses the comprehensive hazard analysis of seismic soil liquefaction, including factors such as macroscopic characteristics, evaluating the liquefaction potential, dynamic characteristics and deformation processes, providing reliable evaluation results for liquefaction potential and deformation in the context of risk assessment.<

In this book, three potential solutions to the issue of steel congestion in reinforced concrete (RC) structures are researched. The first method examines RC mixed with steel fibers. The use of steel fibers instead of stirrups results in the reduction of reinforcing congestion in a manner which is both effective in reducing the effects of congestion and practical to implement. In the second method, reinforcing congestion in RC or prestressed concrete (PC) structures is effectively reduced by the use of self-consolidating concrete (SCC). In the final method, reinforcing congestion is effectively reduced by the use of headed bars instead of traditional hooked bars.In evaluating these three approaches, varied types of concrete and testing methods were used. Shear testing was conducted using a lightweight concrete mix, and flexural testing of prestressed SCC beams was conducted. Seismic testing of headed bars in RC beam-column connections was also conducted. The test results were compared with the ACI 318 provisions and with existing modeling equations proposed by several researchers. This book proposes new models which correlate better with the test results, and examines the effective solutions for diverse conditions offered by several variations and combinations of such methods. The study in this book will provide the basis for additional research since the guidelines and codes regarding the alleviation of reinforcing congestion are shown to be based upon previously limited data.
