- Abstract
With the increasing complexity of and dependency on software, software products may suffer from low quality, high prices, be hard to maintain, etc. Software defects usually produce incorrect or unexpected results and behaviors. Accordingly, software defect prediction (SDP) is one of the most active research fields in software engineering and plays an important role in software quality assurance. Based on the results of SDP analyses, developers can subsequently conduct defect localization and repair on the basis of reasonable resource allocation, which helps to reduce their maintenance costs. This book offers a comprehensive picture of the current state of SDP research. More specifically, it introduces a range of machine-learning-based SDP approaches proposed for different scenarios (i.e., WPDP, CPDP, and HDP). In addition, the book shares in-depth insights into current SDP approaches'performance and lessons learned for future SDP research efforts. We believe thesetheoretical analyses and emerging challenges will be of considerable interest to all researchers, graduate students, and practitioners who want to gain deeper insights into and/or find new research directions in SDP. It offers a comprehensive introduction to the current state of SDP and detailed descriptions of representative SDP approaches.

- Abstract
This book systematically studies the feedback control and filtering problems for nonlinear plants with limited communication channels based on T-S fuzzy models. By fully considering different network-induced phenomena, such as signal quantizations, time-delays, data packet dropouts, communication protocols, cyber attacks, and so on, some significant strategies are provided for various performance analysis and different controller/filter synthesis of fuzzy systems. The event-triggered mechanism is also mentioned to save the communication resource. Moreover, some results are extended to the fault detection and fault-tolerant control. The book provides some new methodologies in analysis and synthesis of fuzzy systems under communication channels, and can serve as a valuable reference material for researchers wishing to explore the area of control and filtering of fuzzy systems and networked systems.

Improving operations and increasing competitive differentiation among manufacturing organizations by harnessing the power of cognitive abilities, IoT can help build and influence the flow of information—making the shop floor more cognitive through effective processing, analysis, and operational optimization. Now we are seeing the first-hand potential of cognitive computing—its ability to transform businesses, governments, and society. The real potential of the cognitive age can be realized by combining data analysis and statistical reasoning of machines with uniquely human qualities, such as self-directed goals, common sense, and moral values, improving operations and increasing competitive differentiation among manufacturing organizations. By harnessing the power of cognitive abilities, IoT can help build and influence the flow of information—making the shop floor more cognitive through effective processing, analysis, and operational optimization. Cognitive initiatives come in all shapes and sizes, from change to strategy and everything in between. What most successful projects have in common, no matter how ambitious, is they start with a clear view of what technology can do. Therefore, the first job of a cognitive scientists is to gain a firm understanding of cognitive abilities, as presented in this book.

- Abstract
This book presents the concept of Control Barrier Function (CBF), which captures the evolution of safety requirements during the execution of a system and can be used to enforce safety. Safety is formalized using an emerging state-of-the-art approach based on CBFs, and many illustrative examples from autonomous driving, traffic control, and robot control are provided. Safety is central to autonomous systems since they are intended to operate with minimal or no human supervision, and a single failure could result in catastrophic results. The authors discuss how safety can be guaranteed via both theoretical and application perspectives. This presented method is computationally efficient and can be easily implemented in real-time systems that require high-frequency reactive control. In addition, the CBF approach can easily deal with nonlinear models and complex constraints used in a wide spectrum of applications, including autonomous driving, robotics, and traffic control. Withthe proliferation of autonomous systems, such as self-driving cars, mobile robots, and unmanned air vehicles, safety plays a crucial role in ensuring their widespread adoption. This book considers the integration of safety guarantees into the operation of such systems including typical safety requirements that involve collision avoidance, technological system limitations, and bounds on real-time executions. Adaptive approaches for safety are also proposed for time-varying execution bounds and noisy dynamics.

- Abstract
To make the content of the book more systematic, this book mainly briefs some related basic knowledge reported by other monographs and papers about geometric mechanics. The main content of this book is based on the last 20 years'jobs of the authors. All physical processes can be formulated as the Hamiltonian form with the energy conservation law as well as the symplectic structure if all dissipative effects are ignored. On the one hand, the important status of the Hamiltonian mechanics is emphasized. On the other hand, a higher requirement is proposed for the numerical analysis on the Hamiltonian system, namely the results of the numerical analysis on the Hamiltonian system should reproduce the geometric properties of which, including the first integral, the symplectic structure as well as the energy conservation law.

- Abstract
This book highlights cooperative coverage control approaches of multi-agent systems in uncertain environments and their applications in various fields. A novel theoretical formulation of multi-agent coverage is proposed to fulfill the coverage task via divide-and-conquer scheme. By taking workload partition and sweeping operations simultaneously, a distributed sweep coverage algorithm of multi-agent systems is developed to cooperatively complete the workload on the given region, and its input-to-state stability is guaranteed in theory. Moreover, the coverage performance is evaluated by estimating the error between the actual coverage time and the optimal time. Three application scenarios are presented to demonstrate the advantages of cooperative coverage control approaches in missile interception, intelligent transportation systems and environment monitoring, respectively.

- Abstract
This book introduces the principle theories and applications of control and filtering problems to address emerging hot topics in feedback systems. With the development of IT technology at the core of the 4th industrial revolution, dynamic systems are becoming more sophisticated, networked, and advanced to achieve even better performance. However, this evolutionary advance in dynamic systems also leads to unavoidable constraints. In particular, such elements in control systems involve uncertainties, communication/transmission delays, external noise, sensor faults and failures, data packet dropouts, sampling and quantization errors, and switching phenomena, which have serious effects on the system's stability and performance. This book discusses how to deal with such constraints to guarantee the system's design objectives, focusing on real-world dynamical systems such as Markovian jump systems, networked control systems, neural networks, and complex networks, which have recently excited considerable attention. It also provides a number of practical examples to show the applicability of the presented methods and techniques. This book is of interest to graduate students, researchers and professors, as well as R&D engineers involved in control theory and applications looking to analyze dynamical systems with constraints and to synthesize various types of corresponding controllers and filters for optimal performance of feedback systems.

- Abstract
This book highlights a new biomedical signal processing method of extracting a specific underlying signal from possibly noisy multi-channel recordings, and shows that the method is suitable for extracting independent components from the measured electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. The system efficiently extracts memory spindles and is also effective in Alzheimer seizures. Current developments in computer hardware and signal processing have made it possible for EEG signals or “brain waves” to communicate between humans and computers – an area that can be extended for use in this domain.

- Abstract
Prolate Spheroidal Wave Functions (PSWFs) are the eigenfunctions of the bandlimited operator in one dimension. As such, they play an important role in signal processing, Fourier analysis, and approximation theory. While historically the numerical evaluation of PSWFs presented serious difficulties, the developments of the last fifteen years or so made them as computationally tractable as any other class of special functions. As a result, PSWFs have been becoming a popular computational tool. The present book serves as a complete, self-contained resource for both theory and computation. It will be of interest to a wide range of scientists and engineers, from mathematicians interested in PSWFs as an analytical tool to electrical engineers designing filters and antennas.
