The article focuses on choreographer Bill T. Jones and his creation of the mixed-media dance theater work "Fondly Do We Hope...Fervently Do We Pray." The work was inspired by the speeches of past U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. At the same time, Jones choreographed Broadway musical "Fela!" about Nigerian composer Fela Kuti. Jones, a winner of the MacArthur fellowship, and his partner Arnie Zane formed the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance company that produced the mixed-media dance theater work "Still/Here" about people with AIDS.
