Abstract: This paper presents an evolutionary algorithm for wind speed reconstruction from synoptic pressure patterns. The algorithm operates in a search space formed by grids of pressure measures, and must classify the different situations into classes, in such a way that a measure of wind speed in a given point is minimized among patterns assigned to the same class. Then, each class is assigned a mean wind speed and direction, so the wind speed reconstruction is possible for a new grid of synoptic pressures. In this paper we present the problem model and the specific description of the evolutionary algorithm proposed to solve the problem. We also show the good performance of the proposed method in the reconstruction of the average wind speed in six wind towers in Spain. The proposed method is applicable to wind speed reconstruction or reconstruction of wind missing data of wind series, specially when there is no other variable or related measure available. The performance of photovoltaic (PV) cell is affected by the model structure and corresponding parameters. However, these parameters are adjustable and variable, which play an available role in regarding to the efficiency and effectiveness of PV generation. Due to strong non-linear characteristics, existing PV model parameters identification methods cannot easily obtain accurate solutions. To tackle this, this paper proposes an adaptive differential evolution algorithm with the dynamic opposite learning strategy (DOL), named DOLADE. In DOLADE, the opposite learning method expands the current elite population and the population of poor performance, improving the particles' exploration capability. In the process of particles work, the searching area of particles is adjusting dynamically so that the particles' exploitation capability is enhanced. The experimental data of different types of PV are tested, respectively. Three PV models are used to verify the new strategy's accuracy and effectiveness. The proposed DOLADE is compared with several general advanced algorithms, and comprehensive experimental results are demonstrated. The results illustrate that DOLADE well extracts optimal parameters for each PV cell model and brought great competition in terms of accuracy, reliability, and computational efficiency in solving the problem. • Differential evolution variant is proposed to estimate the photovoltaic models' parameter. • Dynamic opposite learning strategy aims to improve exploration and exploitation abilities. • The proposed method is tested under various experimental data and cases. • A series of experimental results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Abstract: In this paper, a new approach is proposed to solve the economic load dispatch (ELD) problem. Power generation, spinning reserve and emission costs are simultaneously considered in the objective function of the proposed ELD problem. In this condition, if the valve-point effects of thermal units are considered in the proposed emission, reserve and economic load dispatch (ERELD) problem, a non-smooth and non-convex cost function will be obtained. Frequency deviation, minimum frequency limits and other practical constraints are also considered in this problem. For this purpose, ramp rate limit, transmission line losses, maximum emission limit for specific power plants or total power system, prohibited operating zones and frequency constraints are considered in the optimization problem. A hybrid method that combines the bacterial foraging (BF) algorithm with the Nelder–Mead (NM) method (called BF–NM algorithm) is used to solve the problem. In this study, the performance of the proposed BF–NM algorithm is compared with the performance of other classic (non-linear programming) and intelligent algorithms such as particle swarm optimization (PSO) as well as genetic algorithm (GA), differential evolution (DE) and BF algorithms. Traditional multi-objective economic dispatch problems all apply centralized multi-objective optimization methods. However, with the rapid development of smart grids, issues such as system calculation speed, robustness, and information privacy have been increasingly vitally. Although the distributed multi-objective optimization method can solve the problems of system robustness and privacy when the scale of the interconnected power system expands and the number of agents increases, each agent independently optimizes its sub-problems and then exchanges information to complete the entire system optimization. The pressure of system communication calculation leads to reduce the overall calculation speed greatly. In response to the above problems, this paper proposes a multi-layer distributed multi-objective consensus algorithm. This method first calculates the optimal power generation of each area of each layer through the network topology and then calculates the power of each unit in each area in parallel according to the calculated optimal power generation. The analysis of the three system simulation results of IEEE118-bus, IEEE2154-bus, and Xinjiang Turpan 117-bus shows that the proposed method can solve the problems of multi-objective and information privacy, and realize the rapid solution of economic dispatch in large-scale multi-area interconnected power systems.
