In this paper, for d ≥ 1 and s ∈ (0 , d 2) , we study the Bianchi–Egnell quotient Q (f) = inf f ∈ H ˙ s (R d) \ B ‖ (- Δ) s / 2 f ‖ L 2 (R d) 2 - S d , s ‖ f ‖ L 2 d d - 2 s (R d) 2 dist H ˙ s (R d) (f , B) 2 , f ∈ H ˙ s (R d) \ B , where S d , s is the best Sobolev constant and B is the manifold of Sobolev optimizers. By a fine asymptotic analysis, we prove that when d = 1 , there is a neighborhood of B on which the quotient Q (f) is larger than the lowest value attainable by sequences converging to B . This behavior is surprising because it is contrary to the situation in dimension d ≥ 2 described recently in König (Bull Lond Math Soc 55(4):2070–2075, 2023). This leads us to conjecture that for d = 1 , Q (f) has no minimizer on H ˙ s (R d) \ B , which again would be contrary to the situation in d ≥ 2 . As a complement of the above, we study a family of test functions which interpolates between one and two Talenti bubbles, for every d ≥ 1 . For d ≥ 2 , this family yields an alternative proof of the main result of König (Bull Lond Math Soc 55(4):2070–2075, 2023). In this paper, we study the upper bounds for discrete Steklov eigenvalues on trees via geometric quantities. For a finite tree, we prove sharp upper bounds for the first nonzero Steklov eigenvalue by the reciprocal of the size of the boundary and the diameter respectively. In this paper we provide new existence results for isoperimetric sets of large volume in Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and Euclidean volume growth. We find sufficient conditions for their existence in terms of the geometry at infinity of the manifold. As a byproduct we show that isoperimetric sets of big volume always exist on manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvature and Euclidean volume growth. Our method combines an asymptotic mass decomposition result for minimizing sequences, a sharp isoperimetric inequality on nonsmooth spaces, and the concavity property of the isoperimetric profile. We consider nonlocal variational problems in L p , like those that appear in peridynamics, where the functional object of the study is given by a double integral. It is known that convexity of the integrand implies the lower semicontinuity of the functional in the weak topology of L p . If the integrand is not convex, a usual approach is to compute the relaxation, which is the lower semicontinuous envelope in the weak topology. In this paper we compute such a relaxation for a scalar problem with a double-well integrand. The relaxation is non-trivial, and, contrary to the local case, it cannot be represented as a double integral, as the original problem. Nonetheless, we show that, as for the local case, the relaxation can be expressed in terms of the energy of a suitable truncation of the considered function. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we study the existence and non-existence of minimizers for a type of (critical) Poincaré–Sobolev inequalities. We show that minimizers do exist for smooth domains in R d , an also for some polyhedral domains. In present paper we consider a class of coupled elliptic system with nonhomogeneous nonlinearities. This type of system is related to the Raman amplification in a plasma. We make rigorous study and find the threshold conditions to guarantee the existence, nonexistence and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions for both two and three coupled system by using Morse theory, direct analysis methods and Krasnosel'skii-Rabinowitz global bifurcation theorem. Moreover, we study the asymptotical behavior of positive solutions, and prove some interesting phenomena for these solutions. Comparing to our previous works Wang and Shi (standing waves for weakly coupled Schrödinger equations with quadratic nonlinearities. Preprint, 2015) on the homogeneous case, we encounter some new challenges in proving the existence and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions. We introduce Wasserstein-like dynamical transport distances between vector-valued densities on $${\mathbb {R}}$$ . The mobility function from the scalar theory is replaced by a mobility matrix, that is subject to positivity and concavity conditions. Our primary motivation is to cast certain systems of nonlinear parabolic evolution equations in the variational framework of gradient flows.In the first part of the paper, we investigate the structural properties of the new class of distances like geodesic completeness.The second part is devoted to the identification of $$\lambda $$ -geodesically convex functionals and their $$\lambda $$ -contractive gradient flows. One of our results is a generalized McCann condition for geodesic convexity of the internal energy. In the third part, the existence of weak solutions to a certain class of degenerate drift-diffusion systems is shown. Even if the underlying energy function is not geodesically convex w.r.t. our new distance, the construction of a weak solution is still possible using de Giorgi's minimizing movement scheme. We prove the existence of infinitely many non square-integrable stationary solutions for a family of massless Dirac equations in 2D. They appear as effective equations in two dimensional honeycomb structures. We give a direct existence proof thanks to a particular radial ansatz, which also allows to provide the exact asymptotic behavior of spinor components. Moreover, those solutions admit a variational characterization as least action critical points of a suitable action functional. We also indicate how the content of the present paper allows to extend our previous results for the massive case [5] to more general nonlinearities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
