One of the rare manifestations of fascioliasis is liver abscess. In this paper, we report the case of a 38-year-old woman with a liver abscess caused by Fasciola hepatica (F. hepatica). The patient was referred to the clinic with recurrent fever, right upper quadrant (RUQ) pain, and a large abscess in her liver. Despite the consumption of an antibiotic drug, she still had symptoms. The symptoms began to disappear upon starting the consumption of triclabendazole (TCBZ). Fascioliasis can manifest itself with unusual symptoms that provide no specific clue for its diagnosis. Therefore, it is important to consider F. hepatica in the differential diagnosis of liver abscess, especially in endemic regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction. Lophomonas blattarum is a rare cause of bronchopulmonary and sinus infection. This paper presents a rare case of Lophomonas sinusitis. Case Presentation. The patient was a 31-year-old woman who was admitted because of a history of upper respiratory infection and sinusitis. Direct microscopic examination of the sputum and nasal discharge showed large numbers of living Lophomonas blattarum with irregular movement of flagella. The patient was successfully treated by Metronidazole 750 mg t.i.d. for 30 days. Conclusions. This is the first case report of Lophomonas blattarum sinusitis from Iran. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. Bacillus species are aerobic or facultative anaerobic, gram-positive, or gram-variable spore-forming rods. They are ubiquitous in the environmental sources. Bacillus anthracis may usually cause three forms of anthrax: inhalation, gastrointestinal, and cutaneous. The gastrointestinal (GI) anthrax develops after eating contaminated meat. In this paper we report septic intestinal anthrax. Case Presentation. We report an isolation of Bacillus anthracis from blood culture of patient with intestinal anthrax. Bacillus anthracis was isolated from a blood culture of a 34-year-old man who had a history of severe abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever, sweating, and lethargy within 4 to 5 days after eating the meat of domestic goat. He had evidence of severe infection and septic shock and did not respond to treatments and subsequently expired 9 hours after hospitalization. Conclusion. Gastrointestinal anthrax is characterized by rapid onset, fever, and septicemia. Rapid diagnosis and prompt initiation of antibiotic therapy can help in survival. Most of previous cases of septicemic anthrax were related to injection drug users but, in our case, septicemia occurred after gastrointestinal anthrax. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
