A personal narrative is presented which explores the author's experience of serving on the Conference Committee of the American Library Association (ALA).

The article presents the author's views on the importance for academic librarians to avoid burnout by learning to balance work and life. Topics include the survey on academic librarian burnout, the factors contributing to burnout, and the job responsibilities of academic librarians. Also discussed are the increasing number of articles on burnout, the benefits decreasing anxiety, and the value of having diversions.

The author shares her views on her librarian job and importance of online networking with librarian friends who she can meet at conferences. She explains how she serves on ALA's Conference Committee. She is planning to re-design the structure of conference in time for 2018 in New Orleans. She explains how she knows online librarians friends whom she is comfortable discussing workplace issues and other big-picture questions with.

The article presents authors views regarding his experience regarding his work of correcting OCR errors as volunteer editor and digital humanities (DH). Topics discussed include correcting grammar and punctuation mistakes; his work of managing acquisitions, cataloging, and serials as the Head of Technical Services in an art college; and attending Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School.
