Abstract The city-level public building energy efficiency benchmarking system has an important guiding value for building energy-saving work, especially for Beijing, with its high energy-consumption density and both long heating and air-conditioning periods. This paper analyzed the characteristics of large-scale office buildings in Beijing and gives a detailed description of the process of establishing a public building energy efficiency benchmarking system for large-scale office buildings in Beijing, China, including data investigation and verification, Energy Usage Intensity(EUI) calculation, determining independent and dependent variables, developing and testing the benchmarking model, and deriving the benchmarking rating table. Then the first city-level public office building energy efficiency benchmarking system in China is established based on 88 large-scale office buildings in Beijing. The results showed that the model's performance index R2 is 0.667 and gives a good representation. The process has a strong potential for replication for other cities in China and even for a national energy-consumption evaluation system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: It is not feasible to apply the traditional prediction method to predict hourly building cooling load at the urban energy planning stage because of the limited building information and complexity of energy prediction. This paper presents a simplified prediction model: Hourly Cooling Load Factor Method (HCLFM) that can provide quick and fair estimate of building cooling load for large-scale urban energy planning. The paper introduces the assumptions and principles of the proposed method, as well as discussing the implication and limitation of the approach. As a verification and demonstration, the method is applied to an office building in Beijing. The predicted results show that the dynamical trend of the cooling load is reasonable. The study further analyzes the potential causes of prediction errors and the significance of various cooling load influence factors. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The use of groundwater for cooling and heating purposes is of interest from both the economical and the ecological perspective. The groundwater heat pump (GWHP) system utilizes groundwater as alternative renewable and clean energy source for space heating and/or cooling, withdraws water from a production well, passes it through a heat exchanger and discharges the water into an injection well. By utilizing the relatively stable temperature of groundwater, GWHP system can achieve a higher coefficient of performance. Due to the utilization of groundwater stored in the aquifer, the assessment of the hydraulic capacity of the aquifer based on numerical groundwater models is always needed for the optimum design and the efficient performance of GWHP. In this paper, numerical methods of underground heat-water transfer, energy balance method and thermal storage method were presented to calculate the capacity of unit area of shallow groundwater aquifer. The model results indicate that the numerical method, which is based on performance efficiency of GWHP, represents the behaviour of groundwater pumping/recharging processes, and serves better than energy balance method and thermal storage method, in addition it has been proven itself that this method has the advantages of energy saving and environmental protection. The calculated capacity is positively related to aquifer thickness. It is found that it is easy for ground water recharge in alluvial and pluvial fan located at the piedmont, while the calculated capacity is relatively smaller compared with that of south-east plain where it is not easy for groundwater recharge. Abstract: Based on the generic dynamic building energy simulation environment, EnergyPlus, the simulation model of energy recovery ventilator (ERV) is developed in this paper. With different indoor temperature set-points, the energy performance of ERV along with the availability of ERV is investigated both for Beijing and Shanghai weathers in China in terms of the ratio of heat recovery to energy supply by HVAC devices and ERV. Simulation results show that the seasonal average of the ratio is linear with indoor temperature set-points. The availability of ERV in Shanghai is better than that in Beijing during the winter. In summer, the utilization of ERV is uneconomical if the indoor temperature set-point is higher than 24°C for the Beijing climate. The indoor temperature set-points have the reverse effects to the availability of ERV in the mid-season and to that in the hottest months. Meanwhile, the heating amount recovery in summer and the cooling amount recovery in winter, both of which impair the strong points of the energy recovery, are analyzed quantitatively. • Cooling operation of the multi-energy system (SAAC and GSHP) was discussed, three different operation configurations and their best working condition in a NZEB was analyzed. • Real energy consumption of three working modes wad analyzed and discussed. A 4025 m2 office building was built in Beijing, China, in 2014 as a living laboratory and prototype to explore the technical energy systems of nearly zero energy buildings (NZEBs) in China. Not only the building itself but also the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems were designed with flexibility to explore their performance. Solar-assisted air conditioning (SAAC) and ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems with different terminal units were designed as HVAC systems for either experimental, comparison, or measurement purposes. In this paper, the cooling operation of multienergy systems is discussed on the basis of actual measurement data. HVAC systems have three possible types of operation configuration types, namely, SAAC priority, GSHP only and multimode. Operation scenarios for these configurations are presented first, and the small-scale simulation was carried out to analyze the performance of SAAC priority and GSHP#1 only mode. It indicates that SAAC could save about 47% of energy than that of GSHP#1. Then, the actual operation performance in 2018 was analyzed by reference to the operation data. Through this study, it is found that 1) multienergy systems of SAAC and GSHP operated well in this NZEBs during the summer season; 2) a 10 RT absorption chiller can work well for an NZEB building of approximately 1000 m2 when outdoor enthalpy is low and the solar radiation is stronger than 400 W/m2 as a result of high building thermal performance and air tightness; 3) SAAC can save about 40 to 50% of energy compared to that of GSHP system when providing services for the same terminal system under the same outdoor weather conditions and 4) The GSHP system is a good complement to the SAAC system which works well in June, September and early July when outdoor enthalpy is low. This study indicates that a combination of GSHP and SAAC systems is highly promising for NZEBs in cold climate zones such as Beijing, where the solar radiation is sound. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
