The SAND algorithm is a family of lightweight AND-RX block ciphers released by DCC in 2022. Our research focuses on assessing the security of SAND with a quantum computation model. This paper presents the first quantum implementation of SAND (including two versions of SAND, SAND-64 and SAND-128). Considering the depth-times-width metric, the quantum circuit implementation of the SAND algorithm demonstrates a relatively lower consumption of quantum resources than that of the quantum implementations of existing lightweight algorithms. A generalized Grover-based brute-force attack framework was implemented and employed to perform attacks on two versions of the SAND algorithm. This framework utilized the g-database algorithm, which considered different plaintext–ciphertext pairs in a unified manner, reducing quantum resource consumption. Our findings indicate that the SAND-128 algorithm achieved the NIST security level I, while the SAND-64 algorithm fell short of meeting the requirements of security level I. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper introduces a novel three-dimensional chaotic system that exhibits diverse dynamic behaviors as parameters vary, including phase trajectory offset behaviors and expansion–contraction phenomena. This model encompasses a broad chaotic range and proves suitable for integration within image encryption. Building upon this chaotic system, the study devised a fast image encryption algorithm with an adaptive mechanism, capable of autonomously determining optimal encryption strategies to enhance algorithm security. In pursuit of heightened encryption speed, an FPGA-based chaotic sequence generator was developed for the image encryption algorithm, leveraging the proposed chaotic system. As an effective method for image security protection, image encryption is widely used in data hiding and content protection. This paper proposes an image encryption algorithm based on an improved Hilbert curve with DNA coding. Firstly, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) decomposes the plaintext image by three-level DWT to obtain the high-frequency and low-frequency components. Secondly, different modes of the Hilbert curve are selected to scramble the high-frequency and low-frequency components. Then, the high-frequency and low-frequency components are reconstructed separately using the inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT). Then, the bit matrix of the image pixels is scrambled, changing the pixel value while changing the pixel position and weakening the strong correlation between adjacent pixels to a more significant correlation. Finally, combining dynamic DNA coding and ciphertext feedback to diffuse the pixel values improves the encryption effect. The encryption algorithm performs the scrambling and diffusion in alternating transformations of space, frequency, and spatial domains, breaking the limitations of conventional scrambling. This paper proposed an image algorithm based on a cascaded chaotic system to improve the performance of the encryption algorithm. Firstly, this paper proposed an improved cascaded two-dimensional map 2D-Cosine-Logistic-Sine map (2D-CLSM). Cascade chaotic system offers good advantages in terms of key space, complexity and sensitivity to initial conditions. By using the control parameters and initial values associated with the plaintext, the system generates two chaotic sequences associated with the plaintext image. Then, an S-box construction method is proposed, and an encryption method is designed based on the S-box. Encryption is divided into bit-level encryption and pixel-level encryption, and a diffusion method was devised to improve security and efficiency in bit-level encryption. In this paper, a new combinatorial structure is introduced for image encryption, which has an excellent encryption effect on security and efficiency. An n-transversal in a Latin square has the function of classifying all the matrix's positions, and it can provide a pair of orthogonal Latin squares. Employing an n-transversal of a Latin square, we can permutate all the pixels of an image group by group for the first time, then use two Latin squares for auxiliary diffusion based on a chaotic sequence, and finally, make use of a pair of orthogonal Latin squares to perform the second scrambling. The whole encryption process is "scrambling–diffusion–scrambling". The experimental results indicated that this algorithm passed various tests and achieved a secure and fast encryption effect, which outperformed many of the latest papers. The final information entropy was very close to 8, and the correlation coefficient was approximately 0. All these tests verified the robustness and practicability of the proposed algorithm. To address the problem of a poor security image encryption algorithm based on a single chaotic map, this paper proposes a cascade modulation chaotic system (CMCS) that can generate multiple chaotic maps. On this basis, a multi-image encryption algorithm with block-scrambling-diffusion is proposed using CMCS. The algorithm makes full use of the features of CMCS to achieve the effect of one encryption at a time for images. Firstly, the key-value associated with the plaintexts is generated using a secure hash algorithm-512 (SHA-512) operation and random sequence, and the three images are fully confused by the double scrambling mechanism. Secondly, the scrambled image is converted into a bit-level matrix, and the pixel values are evenly distributed using the bit-group diffusion. Finally, the non-sequence diffusion of hexadecimal addition and subtraction rules is used to improve the security of the encryption algorithm. Adding time delay to nonlinear systems can significantly improve their performance, making it possible to construct image-encryption algorithms with higher security. In this paper, we propose a time-delayed nonlinear combinatorial hyperchaotic map (TD-NCHM) with a wide hyperchaotic interval. Based on TD-NCHM, we develop a fast and secure image-encryption algorithm that includes a plaintext-sensitive key-generation method and a simultaneous row-column shuffling-diffusion encryption process. In order to achieve large-capacity, fast and secure image transmission, a multi-image compression–encryption algorithm based on two-dimensional compressed sensing (2D CS) and optical encryption is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the paper uses compressed sensing to compress and encrypt multiple images simultaneously, and design a new structured measurement matrix. Subsequently, double random phase encoding based on the multi-parameter fractional quaternion Fourier transform is used to encrypt the multiple images for secondary encryption, which improves the security performance of the images. Moreover, a fractional-order chaotic system with more complex chaotic behavior is constructed for image compression and encryption. This paper analyzes the security of an image encryption algorithm based on a two-dimensional hyperchaotic map. This encryption algorithm generated chaotic sequences through a combination of two one-dimensional chaotic maps and used them as the permutation and diffusion key. Then, the image was encrypted by using the structure of row–column permutation, forward-diffusion, and backward-diffusion. The proposer claimed that the above algorithm was secure. However, it was found through cryptanalysis that the algorithm cannot withstand the chosen plaintext attack. Although the forward-diffusion and backward-diffusion of the original algorithm use two different diffusion keys and there is a ciphertext feedback mechanism, the analysis of the diffusion by iterative optimization showed that it can be equivalent to global diffusion. In addition, the generation of chaotic sequences in the encryption process is independent of the plaintext image, so the equivalent diffusion and permutation key stream can be obtained by adjusting the individual pixel values of the chosen plaintexts. Aiming at the security loopholes in the encryption algorithm, the theoretical and experimental results are presented to support the efficiency of the proposed attack and suggestions for improvement are given. Finally, compared with the performance analysis of the existing cracking algorithm, our cryptanalysis greatly improved the cracking efficiency without increasing the complexity of the data. Recently, an image encryption scheme based on a 2D hyperchaotic map is proposed. It adopts the permutation–diffusion architecture and consists of three steps, which are permutation, forward diffusion, and backward diffusion. In this paper, we break this cipher with both the chosen-plaintext attack (CPA) and the chosen-ciphertext attack (CCA). According to our analysis, we found the two complex diffusion processes could be simplified into two simple diffusions and a modular addition operation. Based on this, the equivalent key can be obtained with CPA and CCA. Detailed theoretical derivations and the results of experiments confirmed the feasibility of our attack methods. When the image size was 256 × 256 , the running time of the attacks was less than 2 hours on a laptop with a 2.59 GHz Intel Core i7 and 16 GB DDR3 memory. Other sizes of images were also tested, and some rules were found. In addition, the probability of other attacks has also been discussed, and some suggestions for improvements are given. Chaotic-maps-based image encryption methods have been a topic of research interest for a decade. However, most of the proposed methods suffer from slow encryption time or compromise on the security of the encryption to achieve faster encryption. This paper proposes a lightweight, secure, and efficient image encryption algorithm based on logistic map, permutations, and AES S-box. In the proposed algorithm, SHA-2 based on the plaintext image, a pre-shared key, and an initialization vector (IV) are used to generate the initial parameters for the logistic map. The logistic map chaotically generates random numbers, which are then used for the permutations and substitutions. The security, quality, and efficiency of the proposed algorithm are tested and analyzed using a number of metrics, such as correlation coefficient, chi-square, entropy, mean square error, mean absolute error, peak signal-to-noise ratio, maximum deviation, irregular deviation, deviation from uniform histogram, number of pixel change rate, unified average changing intensity, resistance to noise and data loss attacks, homogeneity, contrast, energy, and key space and key sensitivity analysis. Nowadays, it is increasingly necessary to improve the encryption and secure transmission performance of images. Therefore, in this paper, a bit-level permutation algorithm based on hyper chaos is proposed, with a newly constructed 5-D hyperchaotic system combined with DNA sequence encryption to achieve bit-wide permutation of plaintexts. The proposed 5-D hyperchaotic system has good chaotic dynamics, combining hyperchaotic sequence with bit-level permutation to enhance the pseudo-randomness of the plaintext image. We adopt a scheme of decomposing the plaintext color image into three matrices of R, G, and B, and performing block operations on them. The block matrix was DNA encoded, operated, and decoded. The DNA operation was also determined by the hyperchaotic sequence, and finally generated a ciphertext image. The result of the various security analyses prove that the ciphertext images generated by the algorithm have good distribution characteristics, which can not only resist differential attacks, but also have the advantages of large cryptographic space. In this paper, a novel image encryption algorithm is proposed based on hyperchaotic two-dimensional sin-fractional-cos-fractional (2D-SFCF), called sin-fractional-cos-fractional image-encryption (SFCF-IE). The 2D-SFCF is constructed from two one-dimensional cosine fractional (1-DCFs), and it has a more complex chaotic behavior with a larger parameter space than one-dimensional chaotic systems. Compared with the two-dimensional (2D) chaotic system, the 2D-SFCF has a simple structure, and the parameter space in the chaotic state is continuous, which is beneficial to generating the keystream in the cryptosystem. Therefore, in the novel image encryption algorithm, we use the 2D-SFCF to generate the keystream of the cryptosystem. The encryption algorithm is a process of scrambling and diffusion. Different from common diffusion methods, the diffusion starting position of the SFCF-IE is randomly generated, enhancing the algorithm's security. Various security threats are encountered when keys are transmitted in public channels. In this paper, we propose an image encryption algorithm based on complex network scrambling and multi-directional diffusion. Combining the idea of public key cryptography, the RSA algorithm is used to encrypt the key related to plaintext. The algorithm consists of three stages: key generation stage, complex network scrambling stage, and multi-directional diffusion stage. Firstly, during the key generation phase, SHA-512 and the original image are used to generate plaintext-related information, which is then converted to plaintext-related key through transformation mapping. Secondly, in the complex network scrambling stage, the chaotic random matrix establishes the node relationships in the complex network, which is then used to construct an image model based on the complex network, and then combines pixel-level and block-level methods to scramble images. Finally, in the multi-directional diffusion stage, the multi-directional diffusion method is used to perform forward diffusion, middle spiral diffusion, and backward diffusion on the image in turn to obtain the final ciphertext image. Information security has become a focal topic in the information and digital age. How to realize secure transmission and the secure storage of image data is a major research focus of information security. Aiming at this hot topic, in order to improve the security of image data transmission, this paper proposes an image encryption algorithm based on improved Arnold transform and a chaotic pulse-coupled neural network. Firstly, the oscillatory reset voltage is introduced into the uncoupled impulse neural network, which makes the uncoupled impulse neural network exhibit chaotic characteristics. The chaotic sequence is generated by multiple iterations of the chaotic pulse-coupled neural network, and then the image is pre-encrypted by XOR operation with the generated chaotic sequence. Secondly, using the improved Arnold transform, the pre-encrypted image is scrambled to further improve the scrambling degree and encryption effect of the pre-encrypted image so as to obtain the final ciphertext image. Finally, the security analysis and experimental simulation of the encrypted image are carried out. The results of quantitative evaluation show that the proposed algorithm has a better encryption effect than the partial encryption algorithm. This paper analyzes the security of the image encryption algorithm based on a two-dimensional (2D) infinite collapse map. The encryption algorithm adopts a permutation–diffusion structure and can perform two or more rounds to achieve a higher level of security. By cryptanalysis, it is found that the original diffusion process can be split into a permutation–diffusion structure, which comes after the original permutation, so these two permutations can be merged into one. Then, some theorems about round-down operation are summarized, and the encryption and decryption equations in the diffusion process are deduced and simplified accordingly. Since the chaotic sequences used in encryption algorithm are independent of the plaintext and ciphertext, there are equivalent keys. The original encryption algorithm with single-round, two-round, and multi-round of permutation–diffusion processes is cracked, and the data complexity of the cryptanalysis attacks is analyzed. Numerical simulation is carried out by MATLAB, and the experimental results and theoretical analysis show the effectiveness of the cryptanalysis attacks. This paper proposes an image encryption scheme based on a discrete-time alternating quantum walk (AQW) and the advanced encryption standard (AES). We use quantum properties to improve the AES algorithm, which uses a keystream generator related to AQW parameters to generate a probability distribution matrix. Some singular values of the matrix are extracted as the key to the AES algorithm. The Rcon of the AES algorithm is replaced with the elements of the probability distribution matrix. Then, the ascending order of the size of the clone probability distribution matrix scrambles the mapping rules of the S-box and ShiftRow transformations in the AES algorithm. The algorithm uses a probability distribution matrix and plaintext XOR operation to complete the preprocessing and uses the modified AES algorithm to complete the encryption process. The technology is based on simulation verification, including pixel correlation, histograms, differential attacks, noise attacks, information entropy, key sensitivity, and space. The results demonstrate a remarkable encryption effect. Privacy-preserving techniques allow private information to be used without compromising privacy. Most encryption algorithms, such as the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm, cannot perform computational operations on encrypted data without first applying the decryption process. Homomorphic encryption algorithms provide innovative solutions to support computations on encrypted data while preserving the content of private information. However, these algorithms have some limitations, such as computational cost as well as the need for modifications for each case study. In this paper, we present a comprehensive overview of various homomorphic encryption tools for Big Data analysis and their applications. We also discuss a security framework for Big Data analysis while preserving privacy using homomorphic encryption algorithms. We highlight the fundamental features and tradeoffs that should be considered when choosing the right approach for Big Data applications in practice. We then present a comparison of popular current homomorphic encryption tools with respect to these identified characteristics. We examine the implementation results of various homomorphic encryption toolkits and compare their performances. Finally, we highlight some important issues and research opportunities. We aim to anticipate how homomorphic encryption technology will be useful for secure Big Data processing, especially to improve the utility and performance of privacy-preserving machine learning. Recently, an image encryption algorithm based on random walk and hyperchaotic systems has been proposed. The main idea of the original paper is to scramble the plain image by means of random walk matrix and then to append diffusion. This paper deals with a plaintext-related image encryption algorithm that modifies the parameter values used by the logistic map according to plain image pixel intensities. The parameter values are altered in a row-wise manner, which enables the usage of the same procedure also during the decryption. Furthermore, the parameter modification technique takes into account knowledge about the logistic map, its fixed points and possible periodic cycles. Since the resulting interval of parameter values achieves high positive values of Lyapunov exponents, the chaotic behavior of the logistic map should be most pronounced. These assumptions are verified by a set of experiments and the obtained numerical values are compared with those reported in relevant papers. It is found that the proposed design that uses a simpler, but well-studied, chaotic map with mitigated issues obtains results comparable with algorithms that use more complex chaotic systems. A chaotic system refers to a deterministic system with seemingly random irregular motion, and its behavior is uncertain, unrepeatable, and unpredictable. In recent years, researchers have proposed various image encryption schemes based on a single low-dimensional or high-dimensional chaotic system, but many algorithms have problems such as low security. Therefore, designing a good chaotic system and encryption scheme is very important for encryption algorithms. This paper constructs a new double chaotic system based on tent mapping and logistic mapping. In order to verify the practicability and feasibility of the new chaotic system, a displacement image encryption algorithm based on the new chaotic system was subsequently proposed. This paper proposes a displacement image encryption algorithm based on the new chaotic system. The algorithm uses an improved new nonlinear feedback function to generate two random sequences, one of which is used to generate the index sequence, the other is used to generate the encryption matrix, and the index sequence is used to control the generation of the encryption matrix required for encryption. Then, the encryption matrix and the scrambling matrix are XORed to obtain the first encryption image. Finally, a bit-shift encryption method is adopted to prevent the harm caused by key leakage and to improve the security of the algorithm. Numerical experiments show that the key space of the algorithm is not only large, but also the key sensitivity is relatively high, and it has good resistance to various attacks. In the current network and big data environment, the secure transmission of digital images is facing huge challenges. The use of some methodologies in artificial intelligence to enhance its security is extremely cutting-edge and also a development trend. To this end, this paper proposes a security-enhanced image communication scheme based on cellular neural network (CNN) under cryptanalysis. First, the complex characteristics of CNN are used to create pseudorandom sequences for image encryption. Then, a plain image is sequentially confused, permuted and diffused to get the cipher image by these CNN-based sequences. Based on cryptanalysis theory, a security-enhanced algorithm structure and relevant steps are detailed. Theoretical analysis and experimental results both demonstrate its safety performance. Moreover, the structure of image cipher can effectively resist various common attacks in cryptography. In the actual image processing process, we often encounter mixed images that contain multiple valid messages. Such images not only need to be transmitted safely, but also need to be able to achieve effective separation at the receiving end. This paper designs a secure and efficient encryption and separation algorithm based on this kind of mixed image. Since chaotic system has the characteristics of initial sensitivity and pseudo-randomness, a chaos matrix is introduced into the compressed sensing framework. By using sequence signal to adjust the chaotic system, the key space can be greatly expanded. In the algorithm, we take the way of parallel transmission to block the data. This method can realize the efficient calculation of complex tasks in the image encryption system and improve the data processing speed. Fractional-order chaos has complex dynamic behavior characteristics, so its application in secure communication has attracted much attention. Compared with the design of fractional-order chaos-based cipher, there are fewer researches on security analysis. This paper conducts a comprehensive security analysis of a color image encryption algorithm using a fractional-order hyperchaotic system (CIEA-FOHS). Experimental simulation based on excellent numerical statistical results supported that CIEA-FOHS is cryptographically secure. Yet, from the perspective of cryptanalysis, this paper found that CIEA-FOHS can be broken by a chosen-plaintext attack method owing to its some inherent security defects. Firstly, the diffusion part can be eliminated by choosing some special images with all the same pixel values. Secondly, the permutation-only part can be deciphered by some chosen plain images and the corresponding cipher images. Finally, using the equivalent diffusion and permutation keys obtained in the previous two steps, the original plain image can be recovered from a target cipher image. Theoretical analysis and experimental simulations show that the attack method is both effective and efficient. To enhance the security, some suggestions for improvement are given. This paper presents a dynamic deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) image encryption based on Secure Hash Algorithm-512 (SHA-512), having the structure of two rounds of permutation–diffusion, by employing two chaotic systems, dynamic DNA coding, DNA sequencing operations, and conditional shifting. We employed the SHA-512 algorithm to generate a 512-bit hash value and later utilized this value with the natural DNA sequence to calculate the initial values for the chaotic systems and the eight intermittent parameters. We implemented a two-dimensional rectangular transform (2D-RT) on the permutation. We used four-wing chaotic systems and Lorentz systems to generate chaotic sequences and recombined three channel matrices and chaotic matrices with intermittent parameters. We calculated hamming distances of DNA matrices, updated the initial values of two chaotic systems, and generated the corresponding chaotic matrices to complete the diffusion operation. After diffusion, we decoded and decomposed the DNA matrices, and then scrambled and merged these matrices into an encrypted image. According to experiments, the encryption method in this paper not only was able to withstand statistical attacks, plaintext attacks, brute-force attacks, and a host of other attacks, but also could reduce the complexity of the algorithm because it adopted DNA sequencing operations that were different from traditional DNA sequencing operations. Aiming at the problems of small key space, low security of encryption structure, and easy to crack existing image encryption algorithms combining chaotic system and DNA sequence, this paper proposes an image encryption algorithm based on a hidden attractor chaotic system and shuffling algorithm. Firstly, the chaotic sequence generated by the hidden attractor chaotic system is used to encrypt the image. The shuffling algorithm is used to scramble the image, and finally, the DNA sequence operation is used to diffuse the pixel value of the image. Experimental results show that the key space of the scheme reaches 2327 and is very sensitive to keys. The histogram of encrypted images is evenly distributed. The correlation coefficient of adjacent pixels is close to 0. The entropy values of encrypted images are all close to eight and the unified average change intensity (UACI) value and number of pixel changing rate (NPCR) value are close to ideal values. All-white and all-black image experiments meet the requirements. Experimental results show that the encryption scheme in this paper can effectively resist exhaustive attacks, statistical attacks, differential cryptanalysis, known plaintext and selected plaintext attacks, and noise attacks. The above research results show that the system has better encryption performance, and the proposed scheme is useful and practical in communication and can be applied to the field of image encryption. In order to obtain chaos with a wider chaotic scope and better chaotic behavior, this paper combines the several existing one-dimensional chaos and forms a new one-dimensional chaotic map by using a modular operation which is named by LLS system and abbreviated as LLSS. To get a better encryption effect, a new image encryption method based on double chaos and DNA coding technology is proposed in this paper. A new one-dimensional chaotic map is combined with a hyperchaotic Qi system to encrypt by using DNA coding. The first stage involves three rounds of scrambling; a diffusion algorithm is applied to the plaintext image, and then the intermediate ciphertext image is partitioned. The final encrypted image is formed by using DNA operation. Experimental simulation and security analysis show that this algorithm increases the key space, has high sensitivity, and can resist several common attacks. At the same time, the algorithm in this paper can reduce the correlation between adjacent pixels, making it close to 0, and increase the information entropy, making it close to the ideal value and achieving a good encryption effect. Bit-level and pixel-level methods are two classifications for image encryption, which describe the smallest processing elements manipulated in diffusion and permutation respectively. Most pixel-level permutation methods merely alter the positions of pixels, resulting in similar histograms for the original and permuted images. Bit-level permutation methods, however, have the ability to change the histogram of the image, but are usually not preferred due to their time-consuming nature, which is owed to bit-level computation, unlike that of other permutation techniques. In this paper, we introduce a new image encryption algorithm which uses binary bit-plane scrambling and an SPD diffusion technique for the bit-planes of a plain image, based on a card game trick. Integer values of the hexadecimal key SHA-512 are also used, along with the adaptive block-based modular addition of pixels to encrypt the images. To prove the first-rate encryption performance of our proposed algorithm, security analyses are provided in this paper. Simulations and other results confirmed the robustness of the proposed image encryption algorithm against many well-known attacks; in particular, brute-force attacks, known/chosen plain text attacks, occlusion attacks, differential attacks, and gray value difference attacks, among others. In this paper, the security analysis of an image chaotic encryption algorithm based on Latin cubes and bit cubes is given. The proposed algorithm adopts a first-scrambling-diffusion- second-scrambling three-stage encryption scheme. First, a finite field is constructed using chaotic sequences. Then, the Latin cubes are generated from finite field operation and used for image chaotic encryption. In addition, according to the statistical characteristics of the diffusion image in the diffusion stage, the algorithm also uses different Latin cube combinations to scramble the diffusion image for the second time. However, the generation of Latin cubes in this algorithm is independent of plain image, while, in the diffusion stage, when any one bit in the plain image changes, the corresponding number of bits in the cipher image follows the change with obvious regularity. Thus, the equivalent secret keys can be obtained by chosen plaintext attack. Theoretical analysis and experimental results indicate that only a maximum of 2.5 × w × h 3 + 6 plain images are needed to crack the cipher image with w × h resolution. In actual application scenarios of the real-time video confidential communication, encrypted videos must meet three performance indicators: security, real-time, and format compatibility. To satisfy these requirements, an improved bitstream-oriented encryption (BOE) method based chaotic encryption for H.264/AVC video is proposed. Meanwhile, an ARM-embedded remote real-time video confidential communication system is built for experimental verification in this paper. Firstly, a 4-D self-synchronous chaotic stream cipher algorithm with cosine anti-controllers (4-D SCSCA-CAC) is designed to enhance the security. The algorithm solves the security loopholes of existing self-synchronous chaotic stream cipher algorithms applied to the actual video confidential communication, which can effectively resist the combinational effect of the chosen-ciphertext attack and the divide-and-conquer attack. Secondly, syntax elements of the H.264 bitstream are analyzed in real-time. Motion vector difference (MVD) coefficients and direct-current (DC) components in Residual syntax element are extracted through the Exponential-Golomb decoding operation and entropy decoding operation based on the context-based adaptive variable length coding (CAVLC) mode, respectively. Thirdly, the DC components and MVD coefficients are encrypted by the 4-D SCSCA-CAC, and the encrypted syntax elements are re-encoded to replace the syntax elements of the original H.264 bitstream, keeping the format compatibility. Besides, hardware codecs and multi-core multi-threading technology are employed to improve the real-time performance of the hardware system. Finally, experimental results show that the proposed scheme, with the advantage of high efficiency and flexibility, can fulfill the requirement of security, real-time, and format compatibility simultaneously. As an essential part of an encryption system, the performance of a chaotic map is critical for system security. However, there are many defects for the existing chaotic maps. The low-dimension (LD) ones are easily predicted and are vulnerable to be attacked, while high-dimension (HD) ones have a low iteration speed. In this paper, a 2D multiple collapse chaotic map (2D-MCCM) was designed, which had a wide chaos interval, a high complexity, and a high iteration speed. Then, a new chaotic S-box was constructed based on 2D-MCCM, and a diffusion method was designed based on the S-box, which improved security and efficiency. To address the problems of the high complexity and low security of the existing image encryption algorithms, this paper proposes a dynamic key chaotic image encryption algorithm with low complexity and high security associated with plaintext. Firstly, the RGB components of the color image are read, and the RGB components are normalized to obtain the key that is closely related to the plaintext, and then the Arnold transform is used to stretch and fold the RGB components of the color image to change the position of the pixel points in space, so as to destroy the correlation between the adjacent pixel points of the image. Next, the generated sequences are independently encrypted with the Arnold-transformed RGB matrix. Finally, the three encrypted images are combined to obtain the final encrypted image. Since the key acquisition of this encryption algorithm is related to the plaintext, it is possible to achieve one key per image, so the key acquisition is dynamic. This encryption algorithm introduces chaotic mapping, so that the key space size is 10 180 . The key acquisition is closely related to the plaintext, which makes the ciphertext more random and resistant to differential attacks, and ensures that the ciphertext is more secure after encryption. This paper proposes a more efficient attack method on an image fusion encryption algorithm based on DNA operation and hyperchaos. Although several references have reported some methods to crack the image encryption algorithm, they are not the most efficient. The proposed chosen-plaintext attack method can break the encryption scheme with (4×N/M+1) or (M/(4×N)+1) chosen-plaintext images, which is much less than the number of chosen-plaintext images used in the previous cracking algorithms, where M and N represent the height and width of the target ciphertext image, respectively. This paper analyzes the security of image encryption systems based on bit plane extraction and multi chaos. It includes a bit-level permutation for high, 4-bit planes and bit-wise XOR diffusion, and finds that the key streams in the permutation and diffusion phases are independent of the plaintext image. Therefore, the equivalent diffusion key and the equivalent permutation key can be recovered by the chosen-plaintext attack method, in which only two special plaintext images and their corresponding cipher images are used. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed attack algorithm is verified by a MATLAB 2015b simulation. In the experiment, all the key streams in the original algorithm are cracked through two special plaintext images and their corresponding ciphertext images. In addition, an improved algorithm is proposed. In the improved algorithm, the generation of a random sequence is related to ciphertext, which makes the encryption algorithm have the encryption effect of a "one time pad". The encryption effect of the improved algorithm is better than that of the original encryption algorithm in the aspects of information entropy, ciphertext correlation analysis and ciphertext sensitivity analysis. In the literature, there are many image encryption algorithms that have been constructed based on different chaotic maps. However, those algorithms do well in the cryptographic process, but still, some developments need to be made in order to enhance the security level supported by them. This paper introduces a new cryptographic algorithm that depends on a logistic and two-dimensional chaotic economic map. The robustness of the introduced algorithm is shown by implementing it on several types of images. The implementation of the algorithm and its security are partially analyzed using some statistical analyses such as sensitivity to the key space, pixels correlation, the entropy process, and contrast analysis. The results given in this paper and the comparisons performed have led us to decide that the introduced algorithm is characterized by a large space of key security, sensitivity to the secret key, few coefficients of correlation, a high contrast, and accepted information of entropy. In recent decades, image encryption, as one of the significant information security fields, has attracted many researchers and scientists. However, several studies have been performed with different methods, and novel and useful algorithms have been suggested to improve secure image encryption schemes. Nowadays, chaotic methods have been found in diverse fields, such as the design of cryptosystems and image encryption. Chaotic methods-based digital image encryptions are a novel image encryption method. This technique uses random chaos sequences for encrypting images, and it is a highly-secured and fast method for image encryption. Limited accuracy is one of the disadvantages of this technique. This paper researches the chaos sequence and wavelet transform value to find gaps. Thus, a novel technique was proposed for digital image encryption and improved previous algorithms. The technique is run in MATLAB, and a comparison is made in terms of various performance metrics such as the Number of Pixels Change Rate (NPCR), Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Correlation coefficient, and Unified Average Changing Intensity (UACI). The Gerchberg–Saxton (G-S) algorithm is a phase retrieval algorithm that is widely used in beam shaping and optical information processing. However, the G-S algorithm has difficulty obtaining the exact solution after iterating, and an approximate solution is often obtained. In this paper, we propose a series of modified G-S algorithms based on the Fresnel transform domain, including the single-phase retrieval (SPR) algorithm, the double-phase retrieval (DPR) algorithm, and the multiple-phase retrieval (MPR) algorithm. The analysis results show that the convergence of the SPR algorithm is better than that of the G-S algorithm, but the exact solution is not obtained. The DPR and MPR algorithms have good convergence and can obtain exact solutions; that is, the information is recovered losslessly. We discuss the security advantages and verification reliability of the proposed algorithms in image encryption. A multiple-image encryption scheme is proposed, in which n plaintexts can be recovered from n ciphertexts, which greatly improves the efficiency of the system. Finally, the proposed algorithms are compared with the current phase retrieval algorithms, and future applications are discussed. In this paper, we construct a five dimensional continuous hyperchaotic system and propose an image encryption scheme based on the hyperchaotic system, which adopts DNA dynamic coding mechanism and classical scrambling diffusion encryption structure. In the diffusion stage, two rounds of diffusion are adopted and the rules of DNA encoding (DNA decoding) are dynamically changed according to the pixel value of the plaintext image, that is, the rules of DNA encoding (DNA decoding) used to encrypt different images are different, which makes the algorithm can resist chosen-plaintext attack. The encryption (decryption) key is only the initial value of the chaotic system, which overcomes the difficulty of key management in the "one time pad" encryption system. The experimental results and security analysis show that the algorithm has some advantages of large key space, no obvious statistical characteristics of ciphertext, sensitivity to plaintext and key and able to resist differential attacks and chosen plaintext attack. In graph theory, Hamiltonian path refers to the path that visits each vertex exactly once. In this paper, we designed a method to generate random Hamiltonian path within digital images, which is equivalent to permutation in image encryption. By these means, building a Hamiltonian path across bit planes can shuffle the distribution of the pixel's bits. Furthermore, a similar thought can be applied for the substitution of pixel's grey levels. To ensure the randomness of the generated Hamiltonian path, an adjusted Bernoulli map is proposed. By adopting these novel techniques, a bit-level image encryption scheme was devised. Evaluation of simulation results proves that the proposed scheme reached fair performance. In addition, a common flaw in calculating correlation coefficients of adjacent pixels was pinpointed by us. Color image encryption has enticed a lot of attention in recent years. Many authors proposed a chaotic system-based encryption algorithms for that purpose. However, due to the shortcomings of the low dimensional chaotic systems, similar rule structure for RGB channels, and the small keyspace, many of those were cryptanalyzed by chosen-plaintext or other well-known attacks. A Security vulnerability exists because of the same method being applied over the RGB channels. This paper aims to introduce a new three-channel three rules (3C3R) image encryption algorithm along with two novel mathematical models for DNA rule generator and bit inversion. A different rule structure was applied in the different RGB-channels. In the R-channel, a novel Block-based Bit Inversion (BBI) is introduced, in the G-channel Von-Neumann (VN) and Rotated Von-Neumann (RVN)- based 2D-cellular structure is applied. In the B-channel, a novel bidirectional State Machine-based DNA rule generator (SM-DNA) is introduced. Simulations and results show that the proposed 3C3R encryption algorithm is robust against all well-known attacks particularly for the known-plaintext attacks, statistical attacks, brute-force attacks, differential attacks, and occlusion attacks, etc. Also, unlike earlier encryption algorithms, the 3C3R has no security vulnerability. In this paper, a new three-dimensional chaotic system is proposed for image encryption. The core of the encryption algorithm is the combination of chaotic system and compressed sensing, which can complete image encryption and compression at the same time. The Lyapunov exponent, bifurcation diagram and complexity of the new three-dimensional chaotic system are analyzed. The performance analysis shows that the chaotic system has two positive Lyapunov exponents and high complexity. In the encryption scheme, a new chaotic system is used as the measurement matrix for compressed sensing, and Arnold is used to scrambling the image further. The proposed method has better reconfiguration ability in the compressible range of the algorithm compared with other methods. In this paper, we present a new algorithm based on chaotic systems to protect medical images against attacks. The proposed algorithm has two main parts: A high-speed permutation process and adaptive diffusion. After the implementation of the algorithm in the MATLAB software, it is observed that the algorithm is effective and appropriate. Also, to quantitatively evaluate the uniformity of the histogram, the chi-square test is done. Key sensitivity analysis demonstrates that images cannot be decrypted whenever a small change happens in the key, which indicates that the algorithm is suitable. Clearly, part of special images is selected to test the selected plain-text, like an all-white image and an all-black image. Entropy results obtained from the implementation of the algorithm on this type of images show that the proposed method is suitable for this particular type of images. In addition, the obtained results from noise and occlusion attacks analysis show that the proposed algorithm can withstand against these types of attacks. Moreover, it can be seen that the images after encryption and decryption are of good quality; the measures such as the correlation coefficients, the entropy, the number of pixel change rate (NPCR), and the uniform average change intensity (UACI) have suitable values; and the method is better than previous methods.
