Protecting digital data, especially digital images, from unauthorized access and malicious activities is crucial in today's digital era. This paper introduces a novel approach to enhance image encryption by combining the strengths of the RSA algorithm, homomorphic encryption, and chaotic maps, specifically the sine and logistic map, alongside the self-similar properties of the fractal Sierpinski triangle. The proposed fractal-based hybrid cryptosystem leverages Paillier encryption for maintaining security and privacy, while the chaotic maps introduce randomness, periodicity, and robustness. Simultaneously, the fractal Sierpinski triangle generates intricate shapes at different scales, resulting in a substantially expanded key space and heightened sensitivity through randomly selected initial points. The secret keys derived from the chaotic maps and Sierpinski triangle are employed for image encryption. The proposed scheme offers simplicity, efficiency, and robust security, effectively safeguarding against statistical, differential, and brute-force attacks. Through comprehensive experimental evaluations, we demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed scheme compared to existing methods in terms of both security and efficiency. In this paper, taking the generalized synchronization problem of discrete chaotic systems as a starting point, a generalized synchronization method incorporating error-feedback coefficients into the controller based on the generalized chaos synchronization theory and stability theorem for nonlinear systems is proposed. Two discrete chaotic systems with different dimensions are constructed in this paper, the dynamics of the proposed systems are analyzed, and finally, the phase diagrams, Lyapunov exponent diagrams, and bifurcation diagrams of these are shown and described. The experimental results show that the design of the adaptive generalized synchronization system is achievable in cases in which the error-feedback coefficient satisfies certain conditions. Finally, a chaotic hiding image encryption transmission system based on a generalized synchronization approach is proposed, in which an error-feedback coefficient is introduced into the controller. In this paper, a novel image encryption algorithm is proposed based on hyperchaotic two-dimensional sin-fractional-cos-fractional (2D-SFCF), called sin-fractional-cos-fractional image-encryption (SFCF-IE). The 2D-SFCF is constructed from two one-dimensional cosine fractional (1-DCFs), and it has a more complex chaotic behavior with a larger parameter space than one-dimensional chaotic systems. Compared with the two-dimensional (2D) chaotic system, the 2D-SFCF has a simple structure, and the parameter space in the chaotic state is continuous, which is beneficial to generating the keystream in the cryptosystem. Therefore, in the novel image encryption algorithm, we use the 2D-SFCF to generate the keystream of the cryptosystem. The encryption algorithm is a process of scrambling and diffusion. Different from common diffusion methods, the diffusion starting position of the SFCF-IE is randomly generated, enhancing the algorithm's security. The composite discrete chaotic system (CDCS) is a complex chaotic system that combines two or more discrete chaotic systems. This system holds the chaotic characteristics of different chaotic systems in a random way and has more complex chaotic behaviors. In this paper, we aim to provide a novel image encryption algorithm based on a new two-dimensional (2D) CDCS. The proposed scheme consists of two parts: firstly, we propose a new 2D CDCS and analysis the chaotic behaviors, then, we introduce the bit-level permutation and pixel-level diffusion encryption architecture with the new CDCS to form the full proposed algorithm. Random values and the total information of the plain image are added into the diffusion procedure to enhance the security of the proposed algorithm. DNA computing based image encryption is a new, promising field. In this paper, we propose a novel image encryption scheme based on DNA encoding and spatiotemporal chaos. In particular, after the plain image is primarily diffused with the bitwise Exclusive-OR operation, the DNA mapping rule is introduced to encode the diffused image. In order to enhance the encryption, the spatiotemporal chaotic system is used to confuse the rows and columns of the DNA encoded image. The experiments demonstrate that the proposed encryption algorithm is of high key sensitivity and large key space, and it can resist brute-force attack, entropy attack, differential attack, chosen-plaintext attack, known-plaintext attack and statistical attack. Aiming at the problems of small key space, low security of encryption structure, and easy to crack existing image encryption algorithms combining chaotic system and DNA sequence, this paper proposes an image encryption algorithm based on a hidden attractor chaotic system and shuffling algorithm. Firstly, the chaotic sequence generated by the hidden attractor chaotic system is used to encrypt the image. The shuffling algorithm is used to scramble the image, and finally, the DNA sequence operation is used to diffuse the pixel value of the image. Experimental results show that the key space of the scheme reaches 2327 and is very sensitive to keys. The histogram of encrypted images is evenly distributed. The correlation coefficient of adjacent pixels is close to 0. The entropy values of encrypted images are all close to eight and the unified average change intensity (UACI) value and number of pixel changing rate (NPCR) value are close to ideal values. All-white and all-black image experiments meet the requirements. Experimental results show that the encryption scheme in this paper can effectively resist exhaustive attacks, statistical attacks, differential cryptanalysis, known plaintext and selected plaintext attacks, and noise attacks. The above research results show that the system has better encryption performance, and the proposed scheme is useful and practical in communication and can be applied to the field of image encryption. In this paper, a new voltage-controlled memristor is presented. The mathematical expression of this memristor has an absolute value term, so it is called an absolute voltage-controlled memristor. The proposed memristor is locally active, which is proved by its DC V–I (Voltage–Current) plot. A simple three-order Wien-bridge chaotic circuit without inductor is constructed on the basis of the presented memristor. The dynamical behaviors of the simple chaotic system are analyzed in this paper. The main properties of this system are coexisting attractors and multistability. Furthermore, an analog circuit of this chaotic system is realized by the Multisim software. The multistability of the proposed system can enlarge the key space in encryption, which makes the encryption effect better. Therefore, the proposed chaotic system can be used as a pseudo-random sequence generator to provide key sequences for digital encryption systems. In the literature, there are many image encryption algorithms that have been constructed based on different chaotic maps. However, those algorithms do well in the cryptographic process, but still, some developments need to be made in order to enhance the security level supported by them. This paper introduces a new cryptographic algorithm that depends on a logistic and two-dimensional chaotic economic map. The robustness of the introduced algorithm is shown by implementing it on several types of images. The implementation of the algorithm and its security are partially analyzed using some statistical analyses such as sensitivity to the key space, pixels correlation, the entropy process, and contrast analysis. The results given in this paper and the comparisons performed have led us to decide that the introduced algorithm is characterized by a large space of key security, sensitivity to the secret key, few coefficients of correlation, a high contrast, and accepted information of entropy. In recent decades, image encryption, as one of the significant information security fields, has attracted many researchers and scientists. However, several studies have been performed with different methods, and novel and useful algorithms have been suggested to improve secure image encryption schemes. Nowadays, chaotic methods have been found in diverse fields, such as the design of cryptosystems and image encryption. Chaotic methods-based digital image encryptions are a novel image encryption method. This technique uses random chaos sequences for encrypting images, and it is a highly-secured and fast method for image encryption. Limited accuracy is one of the disadvantages of this technique. This paper researches the chaos sequence and wavelet transform value to find gaps. Thus, a novel technique was proposed for digital image encryption and improved previous algorithms. The technique is run in MATLAB, and a comparison is made in terms of various performance metrics such as the Number of Pixels Change Rate (NPCR), Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Correlation coefficient, and Unified Average Changing Intensity (UACI). Recently, an image encryption algorithm based on DNA encoding and spatiotemporal chaos (IEA-DESC) was proposed. In IEA-DESC, pixel diffusion, DNA encoding, DNA-base permutation and DNA decoding are performed successively to generate cipher-images from the plain-images. Some security analyses and simulation results are given to prove that it can withstand various common attacks. However, in this paper, it is found that IEA-DESC has some inherent security defects as follows: (1) the pixel diffusion is invalid for attackers from the perspective of cryptanalysis; (2) the combination of DNA encoding and DNA decoding is equivalent to bitwise complement; (3) the DNA-base permutation is actually a fixed position shuffling operation for quaternary elements, which has been proved to be insecure. In summary, IEA-DESC is essentially a combination of a fixed DNA-base position permutation and bitwise complement. Therefore, IEA-DESC can be equivalently represented as simplified form, and its security solely depends on the equivalent secret key. So the equivalent secret key of IEA-DESC can be recovered using chosen-plaintext attack and chosen-ciphertext attack, respectively. This paper presents an improved cryptanalysis of a chaos-based image encryption scheme, which integrated permutation, diffusion, and linear transformation process. It was found that the equivalent key streams and all the unknown parameters of the cryptosystem can be recovered by our chosen-plaintext attack algorithm. Both a theoretical analysis and an experimental validation are given in detail. Based on the analysis of the defects in the original cryptosystem, an improved color image encryption scheme was further developed. By using an image content–related approach in generating diffusion arrays and the process of interweaving diffusion and confusion, the security of the cryptosystem was enhanced. In order to overcome the difficulty of key management in "one time pad" encryption schemes and also resist the attack of chosen plaintext, a new image encryption algorithm based on chaos and SHA-256 is proposed in this paper. The architecture of confusion and diffusion is adopted. Firstly, the surrounding of a plaintext image is surrounded by a sequence generated from the SHA-256 hash value of the plaintext to ensure that each encrypted result is different. Secondly, the image is scrambled according to the random sequence obtained by adding the disturbance term associated with the plaintext to the chaotic sequence. Third, the cyphertext (plaintext) feedback mechanism of the dynamic index in the diffusion stage is adopted, that is, the location index of the cyphertext (plaintext) used for feedback is dynamic. The above measures can ensure that the algorithm can resist chosen plaintext attacks and can overcome the difficulty of key management in "one time pad" encryption scheme. Also, experimental results such as key space analysis, key sensitivity analysis, differential analysis, histograms, information entropy, and correlation coefficients show that the image encryption algorithm is safe and reliable, and has high application potential. Recently, to conquer most non-plain related chaos-based image cryptosystems’ security flaws that cannot resist the powerful chosen/knownn plain-text attacks or differential attacks efficiently for less plaintext sensitivity, many plain related chaos-based image cryptosystems have been developed. Most cryptosystems that have adopted the traditional permutation–diffusion structure still have some drawbacks and security flaws: (1) most plaintext related image encryption schemes using only plaintext related confusion operation or only plaintext related diffusion operation relate to plaintext inadequately that cannot achieve high plaintext sensitivity; (2) in some algorithms, the generation of security key that needs to be sent to the receiver is determined by the original image, so these algorithms may not applicable to real-time image encryption; (3) most plaintext related image encryption schemes have less efficiency because more than one round permutation–diffusion operation is required to achieve high security. To obtain high security and efficiency, a simple chaotic based color image encryption system by using both plaintext related permutation and diffusion is presented in this paper. In our cryptosystem, the values of the parameters of cat map used in permutation stage are related to plain image and the parameters of cat map are also influenced by the diffusion operation. Thus, both the permutation stage and diffusion stage are related to plain images, which can obtain high key sensitivity and plaintext sensitivity to resist chosen/known plaintext attacks or differential attacks efficiently. Furthermore, only one round of plaintext related permutation and diffusion operation is performed to process the original image to obtain cipher image. Thus, the proposed scheme has high efficiency. With the popularity of the Internet, the transmission of images has become more frequent. It is of great significance to study efficient and secure image encryption algorithms. Based on traditional Logistic maps and consideration of delay, we propose a new one-dimensional (1D) delay and linearly coupled Logistic chaotic map (DLCL) in this paper. Time delay is a common phenomenon in various complex systems in nature, and it will greatly change the dynamic characteristics of the system. The map is analyzed in terms of trajectory, Lyapunov exponent (LE) and Permutation entropy (PE). The results show that this map has wide chaotic range, better ergodicity and larger maximum LE in comparison with some existing chaotic maps. A new method of color image encryption is put forward based on DLCL. In proposed encryption algorithm, after various analysis, it has good encryption performance, and the key used for scrambling is related to the original image. It is illustrated by simulation results that the ciphered images have good pseudo randomness through our method. In this paper, a novel image encryption scheme is proposed for the secure transmission of image data. A self-synchronous chaotic stream cipher is designed with the purpose of resisting active attack and ensures the limited error propagation of image data. Two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform and Arnold mapping are used to scramble the pixel value of the original image. A four-dimensional hyperchaotic system with four positive Lyapunov exponents serve as the chaotic sequence generator of the self-synchronous stream cipher in order to enhance the security and complexity of the image encryption system. In this paper, a three-dimensional chaotic system with a hidden attractor is introduced. The complex dynamic behaviors of the system are analyzed with a Poincaré cross section, and the equilibria and initial value sensitivity are analyzed by the method of numerical simulation. Further, we designed a new algorithm based on complementary ensemble empirical mode decomposition (CEEMD) and permutation entropy (PE) that can effectively enhance digital chaotic sequence complexity. In addition, an image encryption experiment was performed with post-processing of the chaotic binary sequences by the new algorithm.
