The contribution of tourism to economic development is an open secret but it is a double-edged sword. The opportunity cost for this significant share is environmental degradation without required measures to protect the environment. Using the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squared approach from 1995 to 2014, this study aims to explore the nexus between tourism and environmental pollution for three lower middle-income Southeast Asian economies: Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. This paper uses carbon emissions as a proxy for environmental pollution against tourist arrivals with a few control variables for analysis. The Zivot-Andrews unit root test is applied to deal with structural breaks in data and the Gregory-Hansen test for robustness. The results confirm a negative impact of tourism on the environment for Indonesia and the Philippines; however, tourism improves the environmental quality of Vietnam. This implies that the relationship varies for different countries in the same region, depending on the country-specific characteristics and corresponding policies to protect the environment. The impact of governmental policies also differs for high and lower middle-income countries as one size cannot fit all. This study provides a comprehensive milieu of the impact of tourism on the environment. The identified dominant factors can guide Southeast Asian and other developing countries' governments at all levels in systematically formulating policies; by using these policies, carbon emissions from tourism can be reduced efficiently, resulting in sustainable development in the region. The growing demand for private vehicles associated with the rise in the number of middle-income consumers in Indonesia has led to an enormous energy demand and high-level CO 2 emissions. In order to increase the sustainability in the transportation sector, the Indonesian government has given special attention to electric vehicles as key future solutions to achieve clean and green transport and to improve energy supply security. This paper aims to investigate public perception in relation to the adoption of electric motorcycles (EMs) in Indonesia. We conduct a survey involving 514 participants and find that only 36% of participants agree to adopt EMs as their next motorcycle, and 40% are still in doubt (i.e. neutral). To identify factors influencing EMs adoption, we expand the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) model and analyse the data collected using Partial-Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings show that an adequate perception of EMs, environmental benefits, economic benefits, and incentive policies positively affect the attitude toward the adoption of EMs, which reinforce the results of the previous studies. However, perceived cost and perceived risks appear to be insignificantly influential in our study. Furthermore, factors related to high-behavioural control and support from relatives and closest people are shown to significantly affect the adoption of EMs. This paper also presents the acceptable price range of EMs and the optimal price point (OPP) for segments differentiated by monthly income. All these findings provide valuable insights for the different stakeholders interested in enhancing the adoption of EMs in Indonesia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The carbon dioxide emission from the industrial sector and the power plant contribute significantly to global climate change for several decades. The carbon capture and storage technology is the primary solution to reach the reduction target of carbon dioxide emissions. The carbon capture and storage activities involve CO 2 capturing, transporting, and storing in geological storage, requires number planning. The process integration approach by pinch analysis method can be used for the carbon capture and storage planning problem and to develop the carbon capture and storage network design. However, the applicability of the method needs to be evaluated when some constraints in carbon capture and storage network design are applied. This paper proposes an improved pinch analysis based method for carbon capture and storage target and network design. The method begins with targeting the maximum carbon exchange in the carbon capture and storage system, which is followed by designing the carbon capture and storage network. Next, the capital-carbon trade-off is introduced as a new strategy for assessing carbon capture and storage network design to show the economic feasibility of the design. Four case studies demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method to the carbon capture and storage systems in the central and western part of Indonesia. The application of this new strategy in the western part of Indonesia as a single region system revealed that the flat minimum of the total annual cost is obtained at a five year time difference with the amount of up to US$ 149.3 million. The main purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of institutional quality on growth-emissions nexus in a panel of three East Asian countries over the period from 1990 to 2016. We also incorporated energy consumption and trade openness as important indicators in the model to avoid variable bias. The results of unit root tests show that the variables are stationary at first difference. The panel cointegration test confirmed that all the variables are cointegrated. We employed Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares and Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares methods to estimate the long-run effects of explanatory variables on economic growth. The main findings are: (i) a positive significant interaction variable between carbon emission and institutional quality indicates that efficient and impartial domestic institutions are very important to increase economic growth and decrease carbon emissions, simultaneously. (ii) Institutional quality, energy use and trade openness stimulate economic growth. (iii) The VECM granger causality test results show that there is a one-way causality runs from institutional quality to economic growth, carbon emission and energy consumption, from trade openness to carbon emissions in both short-run and long-run, from energy use to trade openness, from energy use to carbon emission in both short-run and long-run. Moreover, feedback effect is present between economic growth and carbon emission, and between economic growth and energy use in both short-run and long-run. It is therefore, necessary to regulate and strengthen the role and effectiveness of local institutions with the aim of lowering carbon emissions in the course of economic development.
