Deep learning, a crucial technique for achieving artificial intelligence (AI), has been successfully applied in many fields. The gradual application of the latest architectures of deep learning in the field of time series forecasting (TSF), such as Transformers, has shown excellent performance and results compared to traditional statistical methods. These applications are widely present in academia and in our daily lives, covering many areas including forecasting electricity consumption in power systems, meteorological rainfall, traffic flow, quantitative trading, risk control in finance, sales operations and price predictions for commercial companies, and pandemic prediction in the medical field. Deep learning-based TSF tasks stand out as one of the most valuable AI scenarios for research, playing an important role in explaining complex real-world phenomena. However, deep learning models still face challenges: they need to deal with the challenge of large-scale data in the information age, achieve longer forecasting ranges, reduce excessively high computational complexity, etc. Therefore, novel methods and more effective solutions are essential. In this paper, we review the latest developments in deep learning for TSF. We begin by introducing the recent development trends in the field of TSF and then propose a new taxonomy from the perspective of deep neural network models, comprehensively covering articles published over the past five years. We also organize commonly used experimental evaluation metrics and datasets. Finally, we point out current issues with the existing solutions and suggest promising future directions in the field of deep learning combined with TSF. With the development of artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning is widely used in various industries. At CRYPTO 2019, researchers used deep learning to analyze the block cipher for the first time and constructed a differential neural network distinguisher to meet a certain accuracy. In this paper, a mixture differential neural network distinguisher using ResNet is proposed to further improve the accuracy by exploring the mixture differential properties. Experiments are conducted on SIMON32/64, and the accuracy of the 8-round mixture differential neural network distinguisher is improved from 74.7% to 92.3%, compared with that of the previous differential neural network distinguisher. The prediction accuracy of the differential neural network distinguisher is susceptible to the choice of the specified input differentials, whereas the mixture differential neural network distinguisher is less affected by the input difference and has greater robustness. Furthermore, by combining the probabilistic expansion of rounds and the neutral bit, the obtained mixture differential neural network distinguisher is extended to 11 rounds, which can realize the 12-round actual key recovery attack on SIMON32/64. With an appropriate increase in the time complexity and data complexity, the key recovery accuracy of the mixture differential neural network distinguisher can be improved to 55% as compared to 52% of the differential neural network distinguisher. In this paper, we perform neural cryptanalysis on five block ciphers: Data Encryption Standard (DES), Simplified DES (SDES), Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), Simplified AES (SAES), and SPECK. The block ciphers are investigated on three different deep learning-based attacks, Encryption Emulation (EE), Plaintext Recovery (PR), Key Recovery (KR), and Ciphertext Classification (CC) attacks. The attacks attempt to break the block ciphers in various cases, such as different types of plaintexts (i.e., block-sized bit arrays and texts), different numbers of round functions and quantity of training data, different text encryption methods (i.e., Word-based Text Encryption (WTE) and Sentence-based Text Encryption (STE)), and different deep learning model architectures. As a result, the block ciphers can be vulnerable to EE and PR attacks using a large amount of training data, and STE can improve the strength of the block ciphers, unlike WTE, which shows almost the same classification accuracy as the plaintexts, especially in a CC attack. Moreover, especially in the KR attack, the Recurrent Neural Network (RNN)-based deep learning model shows higher average Bit Accuracy Probability than the fully connected-based deep learning model. Furthermore, the RNN-based deep learning model is more suitable than the transformer-based deep learning model in the CC attack. Besides, when the keys are the same as the plaintexts, the KR attack can perfectly break the block ciphers, even if the plaintexts are randomly generated. Additionally, we identify that DES and SPECK32/64 applying two round functions are more vulnerable than those applying the single round function by performing the KR attack with randomly generated keys and randomly generated single plaintext. This paper studies the application of artificial intelligence to milling machines, focusing specifically on identifying the inputs (features) required for predicting surface roughness. Previous studies have extensively reviewed and presented useful features for surface roughness prediction. However, applying research findings to actual operational factories can be challenging due to the additional costs of sensor installations and the diverse environments present in each factory setting. To address these issues, in this paper, we introduced effective features for predicting surface roughness in situations where additional sensors are not installed in the existing environment. These features include feed per tooth,  F z ; material removal rate, Q; and the load information. These features are suitable for use in highly constrained environments where separate sensor installation is not required, making it possible to apply the research findings in various factory environments. Additionally, to efficiently select the optimal subset for surface roughness prediction among subsets formed by available features, we apply causality to the feature selection method, proposing an approach called causality-driven efficient feature selection. The experimental results demonstrate that the features introduced in this paper are quite suitable for predicting surface roughness and that the proposed feature selection approach is more effective and efficient compared to existing selection methods. Employee attrition and high turnover have become critical challenges faced by various sectors in today's competitive job market. In response to these pressing issues, organizations are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to predict employee attrition and implement effective retention strategies. This paper delves into the application of explainable AI (XAI) in identifying potential employee turnover and devising data-driven solutions to address this complex problem. The first part of the paper examines the escalating problem of employee attrition in specific industries, analyzing the detrimental impact on organizational productivity, morale, and financial stability. The second section focuses on the utilization of AI techniques to predict employee attrition. AI can analyze historical data, employee behavior, and various external factors to forecast the likelihood of an employee leaving an organization. By identifying early warning signs, businesses can intervene proactively and implement personalized retention efforts. The third part introduces explainable AI techniques which enhance the transparency and interpretability of AI models. In the evolving landscape of targeted marketing, integrating deep learning (DL) and explainable AI (XAI) offers a promising avenue for enhanced customer segmentation. This paper introduces a groundbreaking approach, DeepLimeSeg, which synergizes DL methodologies with Lime-based Explainability to segment customers effectively. The approach employs a comprehensive mathematical model to harness demographic data, behavioral patterns, and purchase histories, categorizing customers into distinct clusters aligned with their preferences and needs. A pivotal component of this research is the mathematical underpinning of the DeepLimeSeg approach. The Lime-based Explainability module ensures that the segmentation results are accurate and interpretable. The mathematical rigor facilitates businesses tailoring their marketing strategies with precision, optimizing sales outcomes. To validate the efficacy of DeepLimeSeg, we employed two real-world datasets: Mall-Customer Segmentation Data and an E-Commerce dataset. A comparative analysis between DeepLimeSeg and the traditional Recency, Frequency, and Monetary (RFM) analysis is presented. The RFM analysis, grounded in its mathematical modeling, segments customers based on purchase recency, frequency, and monetary value. Our preprocessing involved computing RFM scores for each customer, followed by K-means clustering to delineate customer segments. Empirical results underscored the superiority of DeepLimeSeg over other models in terms of MSE, MAE, and R 2 metrics. Specifically, the model registered an MSE of 0.9412, indicative of its robust predictive accuracy concerning the spending score. The MAE value stood at 0.9874, signifying minimal deviation from actual values. This paper accentuates the importance of mathematical modeling in enhancing customer segmentation. Digital twin is the digital representation of an entity, and it drives Industry 4.0. This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of digital twin in the supply chain to help researchers, industry practitioners, and academics to understand the trend, development, and focus of the areas of digital twin in the supply chain. This paper found several key clusters of research, including the designing of a digital twin model, integration of a digital twin model, application of digital twin in quality control, and digital twin in digitalization. In the embryonic stage of research, digital twin was tested in the production line with limited optimization. In the development stage, the importance of digital twin in Industry 4.0 was observed, as big data, machine learning, Industrial Internet of Things, blockchain, edge computing, and cloud-based systems complemented digital twin models. Digital twin was applied to improve sustainability in manufacturing and production logistics. In the current prosperity stage with high annual publications, the recent trends of this topic focus on the integration of deep learning, data models, and artificial intelligence for digitalization. This bibliometric analysis also found that the COVID-19 pandemic drove the start of the prosperity stage of digital twin research in the supply chain. This study aims to understand the development trends and research structure of articles on artificial intelligence (AI) and information processing in the past 10 years. In particular, this study analyzed 13,294 papers published from 2012 to 2021 in the Web of Science, used the bibliometric analysis method to visualize the data of the papers, and drew a scientific knowledge map. By exploring the development of mainstream journals, author and country rankings, keyword evolution, and research field rankings in the past 10 years, this study uncovered key trends affecting AI progress and information processing that provide insights and serve as an important reference for future AI research and information processing. The results revealed a gradual increase in publications over the past decade, with explosive growth after 2020. The most prolific researchers in this field were Xu, Z.S.; Pedrycz, W.; Herrera-Viedma, E.; the major contributing countries were China, the USA, and Spain. In the AI and information processing research, keywords including "Deep learning", "Machine learning", and "Feature extraction" are components that play a crucial role. Additionally, the most representative research areas were "Engineering", "Operations Research and Management Science", and "Automation Control Systems". Overall, this study used bibliometric analysis to provide an overview of the latest trends in artificial intelligence and information processing. Although AI and information processing have been applied to various research areas, many other sub-topics can be further applied. Deep learning, which is a subfield of machine learning, has opened a new era for the development of neural networks. The auto-encoder is a key component of deep structure, which can be used to realize transfer learning and plays an important role in both unsupervised learning and non-linear feature extraction. By highlighting the contributions and challenges of recent research papers, this work aims to review state-of-the-art auto-encoder algorithms. Firstly, we introduce the basic auto-encoder as well as its basic concept and structure. Secondly, we present a comprehensive summarization of different variants of the auto-encoder. Thirdly, we analyze and study auto-encoders from three different perspectives. We also discuss the relationships between auto-encoders, shallow models and other deep learning models. The auto-encoder and its variants have successfully been applied in a wide range of fields, such as pattern recognition, computer vision, data generation, recommender systems, etc. Then, we focus on the available toolkits for auto-encoders. Finally, this paper summarizes the future trends and challenges in designing and training auto-encoders. We hope that this survey will provide a good reference when using and designing AE models. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a key enabler technology that recently received significant attention from the scientific community across the globe. It helps transform everyone's life by connecting physical and virtual devices with each other to offer staggering benefits, such as automation and control, higher productivity, real-time information access, and improved efficiency. However, IoT devices and their accumulated data are susceptible to various security threats and vulnerabilities, such as data integrity, denial-of-service, interception, and information disclosure attacks. In recent years, the IoT with blockchain technology has seen rapid growth, where smart contracts play an essential role in validating IoT data. However, these smart contracts can be vulnerable and degrade the performance of IoT applications. Hence, besides offering indispensable features to ease human lives, there is also a need to confront IoT environment security attacks, especially data integrity attacks. Toward this aim, this paper proposed an artificial intelligence-based system model with a dual objective. It first detects the malicious user trying to compromise the IoT environment using a binary classification problem. Further, blockchain technology is utilized to offer tamper-proof storage to store non-malicious IoT data. However, a malicious user can exploit the blockchain-based smart contract to deteriorate the performance IoT environment. For that, this paper utilizes deep learning algorithms to classify malicious and non-malicious smart contracts. The proposed system model offers an end-to-end security pipeline through which the IoT data are disseminated to the recipient. Lastly, the proposed system model is evaluated by considering different assessment measures that comprise the training accuracy, training loss, classification measures (precision, recall, and F1 score), and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. In recent years, churn rates in industries such as finance have increased, and the cost of acquiring new users is more than five times the cost of retaining existing users. To improve the intelligent prediction accuracy of customer churn rate, artificial intelligence is gradually used. In this paper, the bidirectional long short-term memory convolutional neural network (BiLSTM-CNN) model is integrated with recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in parallel, which well solves the defective problem that RNNs and CNNs run separately, and it also solves the problem that the output results of a long short-term memory network (LSTM) layer in a densely-connected LSTM-CNN (DLCNN) model will ignore some local information when input to the convolutional layer. In order to explore whether the attention bidirectional long short-term memory convolutional neural network (AttnBLSTM-CNN) model can perform better than BiLSTM-CNN, this paper uses bank data to compare the two models. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the AttnBiLSTM-CNN model is improved by 0.2%, the churn rate is improved by 1.3%, the F1 value is improved by 0.0102, and the AUC value is improved by 0.0103 compared with the BLSTM model. Therefore, introducing the attention mechanism into the BiLSTM-CNN model can further improve the performance of the model. The improvement of the accuracy of the user churn prediction model can warn of the possibility of user churn in advance and take effective measures in advance to prevent user churn and improve the core competitiveness of financial institutions. In the increasingly complex domain of Korean voice phishing attacks, advanced detection techniques are paramount. Traditional methods have achieved some degree of success. However, they often fail to detect sophisticated voice phishing attacks, highlighting an urgent need for enhanced approaches to improve detection performance. Addressing this, we have designed and implemented a novel artificial neural network (ANN) architecture that successfully combines data-centric and model-centric AI methodologies for detecting Korean voice phishing attacks. This paper presents our unique hybrid architecture, consisting of a 1-dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (1D CNN), a Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM), and Hierarchical Attention Networks (HANs). Our evaluations using the real-world KorCCVi v2 dataset demonstrate that the proposed architecture effectively leverages the strengths of CNN and BiLSTM to extract and learn contextually rich features from word embedding vectors. Additionally, implementing word and sentence attention mechanisms from HANs enhances the model's focus on crucial features, considerably improving detection performance. Achieving an accuracy score of 99.32% and an F1 score of 99.31%, our model surpasses all baseline models we trained, outperforms several existing solutions, and maintains comparable performance to others. The findings of this study underscore the potential of hybrid neural network architectures in improving voice phishing detection in the Korean language and pave the way for future research. Success in student learning is the primary aim of the educational system. Artificial intelligence utilizes data and machine learning to achieve excellence in student learning. In this paper, we exploit several machine learning techniques to estimate early student performance. Two main simulations are used for the evaluation. The first simulation used the Traditional Machine Learning Classifiers (TMLCs) applied to the House dataset, and they are Gaussian Naïve Bayes (GNB), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Tree (DT), Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), Random Forest (RF), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), and Quadratic Discriminant Analysis (QDA). The best results were achieved with the MLP classifier with a division of 80% training and 20% testing, with an accuracy of 88.89%. The fusion of these seven classifiers was also applied and the highest result was equal to the MLP. Moreover, in the second simulation, the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was utilized and evaluated on five main datasets, namely, House, Western Ontario University (WOU), Experience Application Programming Interface (XAPI), University of California-Irvine (UCI), and Analytics Vidhya (AV). The UCI dataset was subdivided into three datasets, namely, UCI-Math, UCI-Por, and UCI-Fused. Moreover, the AV dataset has three targets which are Math, Reading, and Writing. The best accuracy results were achieved at 97.5%, 99.55%, 98.57%, 99.28%, 99.40%, 99.67%, 92.93%, 96.99%, and 96.84% for the House, WOU, XAPI, UCI-Math, UCI-Por, UCI-Fused, AV-Math, AV-Reading, and AV-Writing datasets, respectively, under the same protocol of evaluation. The viral spread of online content can lead to unexpected consequences such as extreme opinions about a brand or consumers' enthusiasm for a product. This makes the prediction of viral content's future popularity an important problem, especially for digital marketers, as well as for managers of social platforms. It is not surprising that conventional methods, which heavily rely on either hand-crafted features or unrealistic assumptions, are insufficient in dealing with this challenging problem. Even state-of-art graph-based approaches are either inefficient to work with large-scale cascades or unable to explain what spread mechanisms are learned by the model. This paper presents a temporal-spatial cascade convolutional learning framework called ViralGCN, not only to address the challenges of existing approaches but also to try to provide some insights into actual mechanisms of viral spread from the perspective of artificial intelligence. We conduct experiments on the real-world dataset (i.e., to predict the retweet popularity of micro-blogs on Weibo). Compared to the existing approaches, ViralGCN possesses the following advantages: the flexible size of the input cascade graph, a coherent method for processing both structural and temporal information, and an intuitive and interpretable deep learning architecture. Moreover, the exploration of the learned features also provides valuable clues for managers to understand the elusive mechanisms of viral spread as well as to devise appropriate strategies at early stages. By using the visualization method, our approach finds that both broadcast and structural virality contribute to online content going viral; the cascade with a gradual descent or ascent-then-descent evolving pattern at the early stage is more likely to gain significant eventual popularity, and even the timing of users participating in the cascade has an effect on future popularity growth. Artificial intelligence plays a significant role in traffic-accident detection. Traffic accidents involve a cascade of inadvertent events, making traditional detection approaches challenging. For instance, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based approaches cannot analyze temporal relationships among objects, and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN)-based approaches suffer from low processing speeds and cannot detect traffic accidents simultaneously across multiple frames. Furthermore, these networks dismiss background interference in input video frames. This paper proposes a framework that begins by subtracting the background based on You Only Look Once (YOLOv5), which adaptively reduces background interference when detecting objects. Subsequently, the CNN encoder and Transformer decoder are combined into an end-to-end model to extract the spatial and temporal features between different time points, allowing for a parallel analysis between input video frames. The proposed framework was evaluated on the Car Crash Dataset through a series of comparison and ablation experiments. Our framework was benchmarked against three accident-detection models to evaluate its effectiveness, and the proposed framework demonstrated a superior accuracy of approximately 96%. The results of the ablation experiments indicate that when background subtraction was not incorporated into the proposed framework, the values of all evaluation indicators decreased by approximately 3%. This paper applies a new artificial intelligence architecture, the temporal fusion transformer (TFT), for the joint GDP forecasting of 25 OECD countries at different time horizons. This new attention-based architecture offers significant advantages over other deep learning methods. First, results are interpretable since the impact of each explanatory variable on each forecast can be calculated. Second, it allows for visualizing persistent temporal patterns and identifying significant events and different regimes. Third, it provides quantile regressions and permits training the model on multiple time series from different distributions. Results suggest that TFTs outperform regression models, especially in periods of turbulence such as the COVID-19 shock. Interesting economic interpretations are obtained depending on whether the country has domestic demand-led or export-led growth. Despite advancements in smart grid (SG) technology, effective load forecasting utilizing big data or large-scale datasets remains a complex task for energy management, planning, and control. The Saudi SGs, in alignment with the Saudi Vision 2030, have been envisioned as future electrical grids with a bidirectional flow of power and data. To that end, data analysis and predictive models can enhance Saudi SG planning and control via artificial intelligence (AI). Recently, many AI methods including deep learning (DL) algorithms for SG applications have been published in the literature and have shown superior time series predictions compared with conventional prediction models. Current load-prediction research for the Saudi grid focuses on identifying anticipated loads and consumptions, on utilizing limited historical data and the behavior of the load's consumption, and on conducting shallow forecasting models. However, little scientific proof on complex DL models or real-life application has been conducted by researchers; few articles have studied sophisticated large-scale prediction models for Saudi grids. This paper proposes hybrid DL methods to enhance the outcomes in Saudi SG load forecasting, to improve problem-relevant features, and to accurately predict complicated power consumption, with the goal of developing reliable forecasting models and of obtaining knowledge of the relationships between the various features and attributes in the Saudi SGs. The model in this paper utilizes a real dataset from the Jeddah and Medinah grids in Saudi Arabia for a full year, 2021, with a one-hour time resolution. A benchmark strategy using different conventional DL methods including artificial neural network, recurrent neural network (RNN), conventional neural networks (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), gated recurrent unit (GRU), and different real datasets is used to verify the proposed models. The prediction results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid DL models, with CNN–GRU and CNN–RNN with NRMSE obtaining 1.4673% and 1.222% improvements, respectively, in load forecasting accuracy. Any small environmental changes in the driving environment of a traffic vehicle can become a risk factor directly leading to major safety incidents. Therefore, it is necessary to assist drivers in automatically detecting risk factors during the driving process using algorithms. However, besides making it more difficult for drivers to judge environmental changes, the performance of automatic detection networks in low illumination scenarios can also be greatly affected and cannot be used directly. In this paper, we propose a risk factor detection model based on deep learning in low illumination scenarios and test the optimization of low illumination image enhancement problems. The overall structure of this model includes dual discriminators, encoder–decoders, etc. The model consists of two main stages. In the first stage, the input low illumination scene image is adaptively converted into a standard illumination image through a lighting conversion module. In the second stage, the converted standard illumination image is automatically assessed for risk factors. Sunflower is a crop that has many economic values and ornamental usages. However, its production can be hampered due to various diseases such as downy mildew, gray mold, and leaf scars, and it is challenging for farmers to identify disease-prone conditions with traditional approaches. Thus, a computerized model composed of vision, artificial intelligence, and machine learning is the demand of the age to detect diseases in plants efficiently. In this paper, we develop a hybrid model with transfer learning (TL) and a simple CNN using a small dataset for detecting sunflower diseases. Out of the eight models tested on the dataset of four different classes (downy mildew, gray mold, leaf scars, and fresh leaf), the VGG19 + CNN hybrid model achieves the best results in terms of precision, recall, F1-score, accuracy, Hamming loss, Matthews coefficient, Jaccard score, and Cohen's kappa metrics. Credit card (CC) fraud has been a persistent problem and has affected financial organizations. Traditional machine learning (ML) algorithms are ineffective owing to the increased attack space, and techniques such as long short-term memory (LSTM) have shown promising results in detecting CC fraud patterns. However, owing to the black box nature of the LSTM model, the decision-making process could be improved. Thus, in this paper, we propose a scheme, RaKShA, which presents explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) to help understand and interpret the behavior of black box models. XAI is formally used to interpret these black box models; however, we used XAI to extract essential features from the CC fraud dataset, consequently improving the performance of the LSTM model. The XAI was integrated with LSTM to form an explainable LSTM (X-LSTM) model. The proposed approach takes preprocessed data and feeds it to the XAI model, which computes the variable importance plot for the dataset, which simplifies the feature selection. Then, the data are presented to the LSTM model, and the output classification is stored in a smart contract (SC), ensuring no tampering with the results. The final data are stored on the blockchain (BC), which forms trusted and chronological ledger entries. We have considered two open-source CC datasets. We obtain an accuracy of 99.8% with our proposed X-LSTM model over 50 epochs compared to 85% without XAI (simple LSTM model). We present the gas fee requirements, IPFS bandwidth, and the fraud detection contract specification in blockchain metrics. With the development of artificial intelligence, techniques such as machine learning, object detection, and trajectory tracking have been applied to various traffic fields to detect accidents and analyze their causes. However, detecting traffic accidents using closed-circuit television (CCTV) as an emerging subject in machine learning remains challenging because of complex traffic environments and limited vision. Traditional research has limitations in deducing the trajectories of accident-related objects and extracting the spatiotemporal relationships among objects. This paper proposes a traffic accident detection method that helps to determine whether each frame shows accidents by generating and considering object trajectories using influence maps and a convolutional neural network (CNN). The influence maps with spatiotemporal relationships were enhanced to improve the detection of traffic accidents. A CNN is utilized to extract latent representations from the influence maps produced by object trajectories. Car Accident Detection and Prediction (CADP) was utilized in the experiments to train our model, which achieved a traffic accident detection accuracy of approximately 95%. Recently, deep learning has exhibited outstanding performance in various fields. Even though artificial intelligence achieves excellent performance, the amount of energy required for computations has increased with its development. Hence, the need for a new energy-efficient computer architecture has emerged, which further leads us to the neuromorphic computer. Although neuromorphic computing exhibits several advantages, such as low-power parallelism, it exhibits lower accuracy than deep learning. Therefore, the major challenge is to improve the accuracy while maintaining the neuromorphic computing-specific energy efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel method of the inference process that considers the probability that after completing the learning process, a neuron can react to multiple target labels. Our proposed method can achieve improved accuracy while maintaining the hardware-friendly, low-power-parallel processing characteristics of a neuromorphic processor. Furthermore, this method converts the spike counts occurring in the learning process into probabilities. The inference process is conducted to implement the interaction between neurons by considering all the spikes that occur. Traffic closed-circuit television (CCTV) devices can be used to detect and track objects on roads by designing and applying artificial intelligence and deep learning models. However, extracting useful information from the detected objects and determining the occurrence of traffic accidents are usually difficult. This paper proposes a CCTV frame-based hybrid traffic accident classification model that enables the identification of whether a frame includes accidents by generating object trajectories. The proposed model utilizes a Vision Transformer (ViT) and a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to extract latent representations from each frame and corresponding trajectories. The fusion of frame and trajectory features was performed to improve the traffic accident classification ability of the proposed hybrid method. In the experiments, the Car Accident Detection and Prediction (CADP) dataset was used to train the hybrid model, and the accuracy of the model was approximately 97%. Over the last few decades, the healthcare industry has continuously grown, with hundreds of thousands of patients obtaining treatment remotely using smart devices. Data security becomes a prime concern with such a massive increase in the number of patients. Numerous attacks on healthcare data have recently been identified that can put the patient's identity at stake. For example, the private data of millions of patients have been published online, posing a severe risk to patients' data privacy. However, with the advent of Industry 4.0, medical practitioners can digitally assess the patient's condition and administer prompt prescriptions. However, wearable devices are also vulnerable to numerous security threats, such as session hijacking, data manipulation, and spoofing attacks. Attackers can tamper with the patient's wearable device and relays the tampered data to the concerned doctor. This can put the patient's life at high risk. Since blockchain is a transparent and immutable decentralized system, it can be utilized for securely storing patient's wearable data. Artificial Intelligence (AI), on the other hand, utilizes different machine learning techniques to classify malicious data from an oncoming stream of patient's wearable data. An amalgamation of these two technologies would make the possibility of tampering the patient's data extremely difficult. To mitigate the aforementioned issues, this paper proposes a blockchain and AI-envisioned secure and trusted framework (HEART). Here, Long-Short Term Model (LSTM) is used to classify wearable devices as malicious or non-malicious. Then, we design a smart contract that allows only of those patients' data having a wearable device to be classified as non-malicious to the public blockchain network. This information is then accessible to all involved in the patient's care. We then evaluate the HEART's performance considering various evaluation metrics such as accuracy, recall, precision, scalability, and network latency. Visual pollution (VP) is the deterioration or disruption of natural and man-made landscapes that ruins the aesthetic appeal of an area. It also refers to physical elements that limit the movability of people on public roads, such as excavation barriers, potholes, and dilapidated sidewalks. In this paper, an end-to-end visual pollution prediction (VPP) framework based on a deep active learning (DAL) approach is proposed to simultaneously detect and classify visual pollutants from whole public road images. The proposed framework is architected around the following steps: real VP dataset collection, pre-processing, a DAL approach for automatic data annotation, data splitting as well as augmentation, and simultaneous VP detection and classification. This framework is designed to predict VP localization and classify it into three categories: excavation barriers, potholes, and dilapidated sidewalks. A real dataset with 34,460 VP images was collected from various regions across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) via the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing (MOMRAH), and this was used to develop and fine-tune the proposed artificial intelligence (AI) framework via the use of five AI predictors: MobileNetSSDv2, EfficientDet, Faster RCNN, Detectron2, and YOLO. The proposed VPP-based YOLO framework outperforms competitor AI predictors with superior prediction performance at 89% precision, 88% recall, 89% F1-score, and 93% mAP. The DAL approach plays a crucial role in automatically annotating the VP images and supporting the VPP framework to improve prediction performance by 18% precision, 27% recall, and 25% mAP. The proposed VPP framework is able to simultaneously detect and classify distinct visual pollutants from annotated images via the DAL strategy. The core ingredients for getting its promising results are appropriate data, sufficient computational resources, and best use of a particular algorithm. The application of these algorithms in medical image analysis tasks has achieved outstanding results compared to classical machine learning approaches. Localizing the area-of-interest is a challenging task that has vital importance in computer aided diagnosis. Generally, radiologists interpret the radiographs based on their knowledge and experience. However, sometimes, they can overlook or misinterpret the findings due to various reasons, e.g., workload or judgmental error. This leads to the need for specialized AI tools that assist radiologists in highlighting abnormalities if exist. With the popularity of posting memes on social platforms, the severe negative impact of hateful memes is growing. As existing detection models have lower detection accuracy than humans, hateful memes detection is still a challenge to statistical learning and artificial intelligence. This paper proposed a multi-task learning method consisting of a primary multimodal task and two unimodal auxiliary tasks to address this issue. We introduced a self-supervised generation strategy in auxiliary tasks to generate unimodal auxiliary labels automatically. Meanwhile, we used BERT and RESNET as the backbone for text and image classification, respectively, and then fusion them with a late fusion method. In the training phase, the backward guidance technique and the adaptive weight adjustment strategy were used to capture the consistency and variability between different modalities, numerically improving the hateful memes detection accuracy and the generalization and robustness of the model. The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on crude oil prices just faded; at this moment, the Russia–Ukraine war brought a new crisis. In this paper, a new application is developed that predicts the change in crude oil prices by incorporating these two global effects. Unlike most existing studies, this work uses a dataset that involves data collected over twenty-two years and contains seven different features, such as crude oil opening, closing, intraday highest value, and intraday lowest value. This work applies cross-validation to predict the crude oil prices by using machine learning algorithms (support vector machine, linear regression, and rain forest) and deep learning algorithms (long short-term memory and bidirectional long short-term memory). The results obtained by machine learning and deep learning algorithms are compared. Edge AI is one of the newly emerged application domains where networked IoT (Internet of Things) devices are deployed to perform AI computations at the edge of the cloud environments. Today's edge devices are typically equipped with powerful accelerators within their architecture to efficiently process the vast amount of data generated in place. In this paper, we evaluate major state-of-the-art edge devices in the context of object detection, which is one of the principal applications of modern AI technology. For our evaluation study, we choose recent devices with different accelerators to compare performance behavior depending on different architectural characteristics. The accelerators studied in this work include the GPU and the edge version of the TPU, and these accelerators can be used to boost the performance of deep learning operations. By performing a set of major object detection neural network benchmarks on the devices and by analyzing their performance behavior, we assess the effectiveness and capability of the modern edge devices accelerated by a powerful parallel hardware. Based on the benchmark results in the perspectives of detection accuracy, inference latency, and energy efficiency, we provide a latest report of comparative evaluation for major modern edge devices in the context of the object detection application of the AI technology. The new COVID-19 variants of concern are causing more infections and spreading much faster than their predecessors. Recent cases show that even vaccinated people are highly affected by these new variants. The proactive nucleotide sequence prediction of possible new variants of COVID-19 and developing better healthcare plans to address their spread require a unified framework for variant classification and early prediction. This paper attempts to answer the following research questions: can a convolutional neural network with self-attention by extracting discriminative features from nucleotide sequences be used to classify COVID-19 variants? Second, is it possible to employ uncertainty calculation in the predicted probability distribution to predict new variants? Finally, can synthetic approaches such as variational autoencoder-decoder networks be employed to generate a synthetic new variant from random noise? Experimental results show that the generated sequence is significantly similar to the original coronavirus and its variants, proving that our neural network can learn the mutation patterns from the old variants. Moreover, to our knowledge, we are the first to collect data for all COVID-19 variants for computational analysis. The proposed framework is extensively evaluated for classification, new variant prediction, and new variant generation tasks and achieves better performance for all tasks. Speaker embeddings represent a means to extract representative vectorial representations from a speech signal such that the representation pertains to the speaker identity alone. The embeddings are commonly used to classify and discriminate between different speakers. However, there is no objective measure to evaluate the ability of a speaker embedding to disentangle the speaker identity from the other speech characteristics. This means that the embeddings are far from ideal, highly dependent on the training corpus and still include a degree of residual information pertaining to factors such as linguistic content, recording conditions or speaking style of the utterance. This paper introduces an analysis over six sets of speaker embeddings extracted with some of the most recent and high-performing deep neural network (DNN) architectures, and in particular, the degree to which they are able to truly disentangle the speaker identity from the speech signal. To correctly evaluate the architectures, a large multi-speaker parallel speech dataset is used. The dataset includes 46 speakers uttering the same set of prompts, recorded in either a professional studio or their home environments. The analysis looks into the intra- and inter-speaker similarity measures computed over the different embedding sets, as well as if simple classification and regression methods are able to extract several residual information factors from the speaker embeddings. The results show that the discriminative power of the analyzed embeddings is very high, yet across all the analyzed architectures, residual information is still present in the representations in the form of a high correlation to the recording conditions, linguistic contents and utterance duration. However, we show that this correlation, although not ideal, could still be useful in downstream tasks. The low-dimensional projections of the speaker embeddings show similar behavior patterns across the embedding sets with respect to intra-speaker data clustering and utterance outlier detection. Recent technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data are essential for supporting healthcare monitoring systems, particularly for monitoring Monkeypox confirmed cases. Infected and uninfected cases around the world have contributed to a growing dataset, which is publicly available and can be used by artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict the confirmed cases of Monkeypox at an early stage. Motivated by this, we propose in this paper a new approach for accurate prediction of the Monkeypox confirmed cases based on an optimized Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) deep network. To fine-tune the hyper-parameters of the LSTM-based deep network, we employed the Al-Biruni Earth Radius (BER) optimization algorithm; thus, the proposed approach is denoted by BER-LSTM. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach when assessed using various evaluation criteria, such as Mean Bias Error, which is recorded as (0.06) using BER-LSTM. To prove the superiority of the proposed approach, six different machine learning models are included in the conducted experiments. In addition, four different optimization algorithms are considered for comparison purposes. The results of this comparison confirmed the superiority of the proposed approach. On the other hand, several statistical tests are applied to analyze the stability and significance of the proposed approach. These tests include one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Wilcoxon, and regression tests. The results of these tests emphasize the robustness, significance, and efficiency of the proposed approach. El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is one of the most important inter-annual climate signals in the tropics and has a global impact on atmospheric circulation and precipitation. To address the impact of climate change, accurate ENSO forecasts can help prevent related climate disasters. Traditional prediction methods mainly include statistical methods and dynamic methods. However, due to the variability and diversity of the temporal and spatial evolution of ENSO, traditional methods still have great uncertainty in predicting ENSO. In recent years, with the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, it has gradually penetrated into all aspects of people's lives, and the climate field has also benefited. For example, deep learning methods in artificial intelligence can automatically learn and train from a large amount of sample data, obtain excellent feature representation, and effectively improve the performance of various learning tasks. It is widely used in computer vision, natural language processing, and other fields. In 2019, Ham et al. used a convolutional neural network (CNN) model in ENSO forecasting 18 months in advance, and the winter ENSO forecasting skill could reach 0.64, far exceeding the dynamic model with a forecasting skill of 0.5. In the context of the new era of high digitization and informatization, the emergence of the internet and artificial intelligence technologies has profoundly changed people's lifestyles. The traditional cyber attack detection has become increasingly weak in the context of the increasingly complex network environment in the new era, and deep learning technology has begun to play a significant role in the field of network security. There are many kinds of attacks against web applications, which are very harmful, including SQL (Structured Query Language) injection, XSS (Cross-Site Scripting), and command injection. Based on the detection of SQL injection and XSS attacks, this paper combines the detection of command injection attacks, which are also very harmful, and proposes a multi-classification detection method for web injection attacks. We extract features in the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) and request body of HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) requests and combine deep learning technology to build a multi-classification model for injection attacks. Firstly, aiming at the problem of imbalanced distribution of training samples and low detection accuracy of command injection attack, a sample generation method is proposed. The experimental results show that the proposed method ensures a higher detection rate of command injection attacks and lower false alarms. Secondly, we propose a more expressive feature fusion model, which effectively combines the features extracted by deep learning with the discrete features extracted manually. The experimental results show that the feature fusion model proposed in this work is more effective compared with a single deep learning model. The accuracy of the model is improved by about 1%. With developments in artificial intelligence (AI), it is possible for novel applications to utilize deep learning to compose music by the format of musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) even without any knowledge of musical theory. The composed music is generally evaluated by human-based Turing test, which is a subjective approach and does not provide any quantitative criteria. Therefore, objective evaluation approaches with many general descriptive parameters are applied to the evaluation of MIDI data while considering MIDI features such as pitch distances, chord rates, tone spans, drum patterns, etc. However, setting several general descriptive parameters manually on large datasets is difficult and has considerable generalization limitations. In this paper, an enhanced evaluation method based on random masking and sequence-to-sequence (Seq2Seq) model is proposed to evaluate MIDI data. An experiment was conducted on real MIDI data, generated MIDI data, and random MIDI data. The bilingual evaluation understudy (BLEU) is a common MIDI data evaluation approach and is used here to evaluate the performance of the proposed method in a comparative study. In the proposed method, the ratio of the average evaluation score of the generated MIDI data to that of the real MIDI data was 31%, while that of BLEU was 79%. The lesser the ratio, the greater the difference between the real MIDI data and generated MIDI data. Mistrust, amplified by numerous artificial intelligence (AI) related incidents, is an issue that has caused the energy and industrial sectors to be amongst the slowest adopter of AI methods. Central to this issue is the black-box problem of AI, which impedes investments and is fast becoming a legal hazard for users. Explainable AI (XAI) is a recent paradigm to tackle such an issue. Being the backbone of the industry, the prognostic and health management (PHM) domain has recently been introduced into XAI. However, many deficiencies, particularly the lack of explanation assessment methods and uncertainty quantification, plague this young domain. In the present paper, we elaborate a framework on explainable anomaly detection and failure prognostic employing a Bayesian deep learning model and Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) to generate local and global explanations from the PHM tasks. An uncertainty measure of the Bayesian model is utilized as a marker for anomalies and expands the prognostic explanation scope to include the model's confidence. In addition, the global explanation is used to improve prognostic performance, an aspect neglected from the handful of studies on PHM-XAI. The quality of the explanation is examined employing local accuracy and consistency properties. The elaborated framework is tested on real-world gas turbine anomalies and synthetic turbofan failure prediction data. Seven out of eight of the tested anomalies were successfully identified. In recent years, cardiovascular diseases are on the rise, and they entail enormous health burdens on global economies. Cardiac vibrations yield a wide and rich spectrum of essential information regarding the functioning of the heart, and thus it is necessary to take advantage of this data to better monitor cardiac health by way of prevention in early stages. Specifically, seismocardiography (SCG) is a noninvasive technique that can record cardiac vibrations by using new cutting-edge devices as accelerometers. Therefore, providing new and reliable data regarding advancements in the field of SCG, i.e., new devices and tools, is necessary to outperform the current understanding of the State-of-the-Art (SoTA). This paper reviews the SoTA on SCG and concentrates on three critical aspects of the SCG approach, i.e., on the acquisition, annotation, and its current applications. Recently, with the development of computer technology, deep learning has expanded to the field of art, which requires creativity, which is a unique ability of humans, and an understanding of the human emotions expressed in art to process them as data. The field of art is integrating with various industrial fields, among which artificial intelligence (AI) is being used in stage art, to create visual images. As it is difficult for a computer to process emotions expressed in songs as data, existing stage background images for song performances are human designed. Recently, research has been conducted to enable AI to design stage background images on behalf of humans. However, there is no research on reflecting emotions contained in song lyrics to stage background images. This paper proposes a style transformation method to reflect emotions in stage background images. First, multiple verses and choruses are derived from song lyrics, one at a time, and emotion words included in each verse and chorus are extracted. Second, the probability distribution of the emotion words is calculated for each verse and chorus, and the image with the most similar probability distribution from an image dataset with emotion word tags in advance is selected for each verse and chorus. Finally, for each verse and chorus, the stage background images with the transferred style are outputted. Through an experiment, the similarity between the stage background and the image transferred to the style of the image with similar emotion words probability distribution was 38%, and the similarity between the stage background image and the image transferred to the style of the image with completely different emotion word probability distribution was 8%. The proposed method reduced the total variation loss of change from 1.0777 to 0.1597. The total variation loss is the sum of content loss and style loss based on weights. Fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) is a well-assessed non-destructive test method used in manufacturing for detecting cracks and other flaws of the product under test. This is a critical phase in the mechanical and aerospace industrial sector. The purpose of this work was to present the implementation of an automated inspection system, developing a vision-based expert system to automate the inspection phase of the FPI process in an aerospace manufacturing line. The aim of this process was to identify the defectiveness status of some mechanical parts by the means of images. This paper will present, test and compare different machine learning architectures to perform the automated defect detection on a given dataset. For each test sample, several images at different angles were captured to properly populate the input dataset. In this way, the defectiveness status should be found combining the information contained in all the pictures. In particular, the system was designed for increasing the reliability of the evaluations performed on the airplane part, by implementing proper artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to reduce current human operators' effort. The results show that, for applications in which the dataset available is quite small, a well-designed feature extraction process before the machine learning classifier is a very important step for achieving high classification accuracy. Artificial intelligence, deep learning, and machine learning are dominant sources to use in order to make a system smarter. Nowadays, the smart speech emotion recognition (SER) system is a basic necessity and an emerging research area of digital audio signal processing. However, SER plays an important role with many applications that are related to human–computer interactions (HCI). The existing state-of-the-art SER system has a quite low prediction performance, which needs improvement in order to make it feasible for the real-time commercial applications. The key reason for the low accuracy and the poor prediction rate is the scarceness of the data and a model configuration, which is the most challenging task to build a robust machine learning technique. In this paper, we addressed the limitations of the existing SER systems and proposed a unique artificial intelligence (AI) based system structure for the SER that utilizes the hierarchical blocks of the convolutional long short-term memory (ConvLSTM) with sequence learning. We designed four blocks of ConvLSTM, which is called the local features learning block (LFLB), in order to extract the local emotional features in a hierarchical correlation. The ConvLSTM layers are adopted for input-to-state and state-to-state transition in order to extract the spatial cues by utilizing the convolution operations. We placed four LFLBs in order to extract the spatiotemporal cues in the hierarchical correlational form speech signals using the residual learning strategy. Furthermore, we utilized a novel sequence learning strategy in order to extract the global information and adaptively adjust the relevant global feature weights according to the correlation of the input features. Finally, we used the center loss function with the softmax loss in order to produce the probability of the classes. The center loss increases the final classification results and ensures an accurate prediction as well as shows a conspicuous role in the whole proposed SER scheme. We tested the proposed system over two standard, interactive emotional dyadic motion capture (IEMOCAP) and ryerson audio visual database of emotional speech and song (RAVDESS) speech corpora, and obtained a 75% and an 80% recognition rate, respectively. This paper provides a comprehensive state-of-the-art investigation of the recent advances in data science in emerging economic applications. The analysis is performed on the novel data science methods in four individual classes of deep learning models, hybrid deep learning models, hybrid machine learning, and ensemble models. Application domains include a broad and diverse range of economics research from the stock market, marketing, and e-commerce to corporate banking and cryptocurrency. Prisma method, a systematic literature review methodology, is used to ensure the quality of the survey. The findings reveal that the trends follow the advancement of hybrid models, which outperform other learning algorithms. The popularity of deep reinforcement learning (DRL) applications in economics has increased exponentially. DRL, through a wide range of capabilities from reinforcement learning (RL) to deep learning (DL), offers vast opportunities for handling sophisticated dynamic economics systems. DRL is characterized by scalability with the potential to be applied to high-dimensional problems in conjunction with noisy and nonlinear patterns of economic data. In this paper, we initially consider a brief review of DL, RL, and deep RL methods in diverse applications in economics, providing an in-depth insight into the state-of-the-art. Furthermore, the architecture of DRL applied to economic applications is investigated in order to highlight the complexity, robustness, accuracy, performance, computational tasks, risk constraints, and profitability. The survey results indicate that DRL can provide better performance and higher efficiency as compared to the traditional algorithms while facing real economic problems in the presence of risk parameters and the ever-increasing uncertainties.
