The article discusses the trends in digital product development. It highlights the developments in the engineering industry from the use of paper engineering drawing to three-dimensional (3-D) wire-frames. It cites that these changes in the engineering industry have been brought about by advances in information technology (IT). Moreover, it explores the three categories when examining trends in digital product development, which would be helpful in predicting the future of mechanical engineering. These categories include technology modeling, geometry modeling and process modeling.
