Biomass direct-fired power plant integrated with carbon capture system can achieve negative CO 2 emission during the power generation, which provides an important technology pathway for the transformation of energy system towards carbon neutrality. Understanding the economic competitiveness and CO 2 reduction potential of the plant, and identifying the optimal operating mode are the key to fully exert the advantages of the technology. For this reason, this paper develops life cycle economic and CO 2 emission assessment models for the biomass direct-fired circulating fluidized bed boiler power plant (BCFBP) integrated with solvent-based post-combustion carbon capture (PCC) system. The levelized cost and CO 2 emission of energy indexes are then applied to evaluate the performance of the BCFBP-PCC system. Based on the life cycle assessment, a novel economy and CO 2 reduction dual-objective operating optimization approach is proposed for the BCFBP-PCC to find the optimal hourly power generation and CO 2 capture level of the plant under given market conditions. The static investment payback period is employed as a constraint in the optimization to narrow down the range of the solution set and provide clearer guidance for system operation. The high penetration of new energy into the grid is an effective method for reducing carbon emissions. However, the randomness and uncertainty of large-scale wind power (WP) output pose challenges to the grid dispatch operation and increase the requirements for carbon emission control. This paper proposes a low-carbon economic dispatching strategy based on the feasible region (FR) of cooperative interaction between WP and flexible resources to promote the consumption of WP and reduce carbon emissions. In particular, energy storage (ES) and carbon capture power plant (CCPP) are used as a set of adjustable flexible resources, and the power FR of WP, ES and CCPP is constructed to provide a visualization reference for grid scheduling. Then, a two-stage robust optimization (RO) dispatching FR-based model considering WP consumption capacity is proposed to cope with the operational risk of WP output stochasticity for power grid. Finally, the column constraint generation algorithm (C&CG) is used to solve the problem and evaluate low carbon level in the system according to the carbon flow theory. With the promotion of distributed energy trading and the transformation of power system operation mode, prosumers in the carbon and electricity markets face new opportunities and challenges. This paper proposes a peer-to-peer transaction platform to promote renewable energy consumption and carbon emission reduction, including multiple types of loads, coal-fired units, and microgrid prosumers. The carbon-emitting members of power generation and demand sides in the electricity market are introduced into the carbon market, and their carbon cost model is established. To guide consumption behavior of demand side, the user utility model based on electricity consumption is built to reduce carbon emissions. With the goal of optimizing the generation cost, user utility, and network fees, the distributed optimal scheduling model is established to recover the network fees. Finally, the alternating direction method of multipliers is used to solve this problem and protect transaction privacy. The results indicate that introducing carbon trading at the power generation and demand sides can promote the shift of members' production behavior from high-carbon emission industries to low-carbon ones. Multi-energy complementary technology is meaningful for promoting the development of solar energy utilization, and the main novelty of this paper is the proposal of a novel linear Fresnel reflector solar-gas combined (LSGC) system which utilizes the organic Rankine cycle driven proton exchange membrane hydrogen production (PEM-HP) subsystem as well as is designed for generating electricity and hydrogen. By using the Ebsilon, the operation performance and exergy analyses of the LSGC system are launched. The results show that the output power and electric efficiency of the LSGC system are 424.8 MW and 45.4%. The solar field contributes a power of 34 MW. The hydrogen production rate of the LSGC system is 182.88 kg/day. The solar field, GTCC and PEM-HP section can reach the coordinated operation effectively during a long term, revealing the technical feasibility of the LSGC system. The exergy analysis results indicate that the solar field has the second maximum exergy destruction and the smallest exergy efficiency, and the combustion chamber has the maximum exergy destruction. The economic analysis shows that the levelized costs of electricity and hydrogen of the LSGC system are 0.045 $/kWh and 5.67 $/kg. The environment effect evaluation shows that compared with the coal power, the LSGC system can reduce the annual emissions of CO 2 , NO x , SO 2 and dust effectively. Greenhouse drying system is used to dry agricultural products or low-temperature thermal drying using a greenhouse structure. In this paper, an experimental and simulation study is carried out to evaluate the drying performances of an active solar greenhouse dryer using COMSOL Multiphysics. The experimental setup includes a compact thermal storage-based greenhouse dryer (1.5 m × 1.0 m x 0.5 m) equipped with a black gravel-covered Aluminium jacket and 35 kg of paraffin wax for heat retention which is located on the floor of the dryer. The experiments were conducted in Ranchi, India (23.34 °N, 85.30 °E) under clear sky conditions in the month of May. The amount of solar radiation (global solar radiation) varied from (630 W/m2 to 1052 W/m2) with an average of 936 W/m2, ambient air temperature (30.2 °C–38.2 °C), air relative humidity (31.6 %–34.6 %), and wind speed (0.9–1.0 m/s). The inside dryer temperature, humidity, wind speed, and floor temperature were also measured every hour. The average values of these parameters were 59.1 °C, 30.2 %, 0.91 m/s, and 69.1 °C, respectively. The FE (finite element) modelling finds out the maximum temperature in drying products, floor and dryer's outlet is 55.3 °C,72.4 °C and 67.4 °C, respectively at 13:00 h. The proposed dryer costs 19633.50 INR with an embodied energy of 1358.01 kW h. The proposed dryer has a break-even period of 1.87 years, and its lifespan is 35 years. During this time, the net CO 2 emission was found to be 21.45 tonnes, and the earned carbon credit varies from 1505.01 to 30030.00 INR. The result shows that the drying efficiency is 42.52 %, reducing the initial moisture content from 88.64 % to 2.28 % within five consecutive hours. The energy and exergy efficiencies of the dryer are found to be 61.84 % and 56 % respectively. The system is a viable, sustainable choice for the large-scale production of bitter gourd flakes. Energy is one of the essential components for the social and economic growth of urban and rural communities worldwide. However, the lack of energy supply is one of the most significant challenges facing remote or local communities in Nigeria. Distributed generation systems based on renewable energy, conventional sources, or hybrid resources are possible energy production solutions for these communities. This paper, therefore, focused on providing an energy generation system based on photovoltaics (PV) and diesel generators (DG) for stand-alone applications. A comparative analysis was carried out to assess the impact of control strategies, namely load following (LF), cycle charging (CC), and combined dispatch (CD). The designed energy systems: 60 kW PV, 78.69 kW PV, PV-DG-LF, PV-DG-CC, and PV-DG-CD were simulated using HOMER Pro while technical, economic, and environmental indices were used as performance metrics. Simulation results showed that 60 kW PV generated 84,927 and 75,859 kWh, without and with temperature effect, respectively, with the corresponding unmet electric load (UEL) of 13.8 and 14.2%. The result further demonstrated that PV-DG-LF is the optimal design with the highest renewable penetration of 80.7% and the least annual total fuel consumption (TFC) of 6,594 l. The economic results further confirm the suitability of PV-DG-LF with the lowest fuel cost (FC) and moderate cost of energy (COE) of $219,934 and 0.302 $/kWh, respectively. The PV-DG-LF is found to be more environmentally friendly, with the least annual CO 2 emission of 16,629.652 kg. Innovation and adaptation of renewable energy technologies significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and increase energy efficiency. Understanding the convergence patterns in renewable energy innovation will enable policymakers to design policies to increase energy efficiency and renewable energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions. This paper applies the convergence algorithm proposed by Philips and Sul to assess the convergence in renewable energy innovation for 90 countries covering the period between 1993 and 2018. This paper also examines the determinants/factors driving the convergence clubs of the countries using Probit and Logit regression. The convergence analyses suggest that there is no global convergence in renewable energy innovation. Findings highlight two convergence clubs: i) a club comprising more innovative countries and ii) another club that includes less innovative countries. We find that countries with higher income per capita, CO2 emissions per capita, research and development (R&D) investment, better environmental regulations and stronger institutional settings are more likely to be part of the innovative club. Countries should increase their R&D investment and environmental regulations and improve their institutional quality to increase their likelihood of belonging to a more innovative club. In this study, the optimization of a multisource hybrid photovoltaic (PV)/Wind/Diesel/Fuel cell (FC) system is performed to meet three realistic loads demand for heavy, medium and small activities observed at Figuil, Cameroon. This paper also examines and compares the techno-economic viability of an off-grid hybrid PV/Wind/Diesel/FC, PV/Diesel/FC and Wind/Diesel/FC systems in terms of net present cost (NPC), cost of energy (COE) and environmental emissions. The effectiveness of different evolutionary algorithms employed in the designing problem of the various hybrid systems is also investigated. The results revealed that, for maximum loss of power supply probability (LPSP) of 5% and minimum renewable energy fraction of 85%, the PV/Wind/Diesel/FC system is economically the best choice for supplying the three types of non-domestic loads demand with corresponding NPC, COE and LPSP values of 159319.4$, 1.087$/kWh and 0.0397 for heavy activity; 150185.8$, 1.753$/kWh and 0.0411 for medium activity; and 144588.0$, 2.384$/kWh and 0.0288 for small activity, respectively. The results also demonstrated that, in terms of pollution emissions minimization, the PV/Wind/Diesel/FC configuration is a preferable option, with an overall yearly CO 2 emissions of 2946.1 kg, 2043.6 kg and 1504.2 kg corresponding to an annual total fuel consumption of 1115.9L, 774.1L and 569.8L for heavy, medium and small activities, respectively. Sustainable development has many dimensions, such as clean energy, green growth, and sustainable industry. Green finance has a key role in realizing these targets. The core focus of the existing paper is to demystify the influences of green finance, green energy on environmental dynamics in Malaysia covering the timeframe from 1990 to 2018. To this end, we employ the QARDL technique to peruse the effect of green finance, renewable energy, and economic growth on CO 2 emissions and ecological footprint separately. By doing so, we crosscheck the empirical outcomes and inspect the consistency of the analysis. Firstly, empirical results show that the ecological footprint model yields similar results to the CO 2 emissions model in terms of statistically significant quantile ranges and the magnitude of the coefficients. According to the overall results, GDP increases environmental degradation while green finance and renewable energy have a mitigating role. Finally, we confirm a significant EKC hypothesis for Malaysia. Based on these findings, we recommend Malaysian policymakers focus on energy efficiency, realize financial reforms and promote green energy through the financial system to achieve the 2050 net-zero emission target. As the quality of life continues to improve, the requirement for district heating is gradually growing, contributing to problems of climate change and environmental degradation. The electricity consumption and heat losses in thermal stations are significant. To address these issues, a novel self-sufficient thermal station in electric power is proposed in this paper. The techno-economic and environmental performances of the novel electricity self-sufficient thermal station under operating conditions is analyzed employing a mathematical model. The results show that the higher the temperature of the primary heating network supply water, the better the overall performance of the system. Additionally, a lower point pinch temperature difference is beneficial for improving the performance of the system. At the primary heating network supply water temperature of 100 °C and the evaporating temperature of 69 °C, the PBP obtains the minimal value of 6.53 years. The annual saving coal can reach 73.21 t and reducing CO 2 emissions can reach 199.55 t. Therefore, the novel electricity self-sufficient thermal station can meet certain technical requirements for combined heating and power generation while demonstrating superior economic capability. Integrated energy system (IES) coupled with renewable energy generation and power-to-gas (P2G) technology provides an effective solution to alleviate the current urgent carbon peak demand. Therefore, This paper develops a novel IES low-carbon economic operation strategy incorporating market mechanism. Firstly, a 24-h joint wind turbine and photovoltaic (WT-PV) output scenario generation method is proposed based on the time-varying Copula function. Secondly, the introduction of carbon capture technology (CCT), electrolyzer (EL), methane reactor (MR) and hydrogen fuel cell (HFC) refines the operation process of p2g into two stages. The combined heat and power (CHP) and HFC variable power operation strategy with adjustable thermoelectric ratio is proposed. Finally, the ladder-type carbon trading mechanism is used to guide IES to control carbon emission. The results of case study show that 1) The time-varying Copula function is effective in improving the scenario accuracy and fitting the data closely to reality 2) The introduction of hydrogen improves the energy utilization efficiency while promoting the consumption of WT-PV. 3) The variable power operation reduces the total cost and carbon emission by 2.4 % and 3.14 %, respectively, compared with the constant thermoelectric ratio. 4) The proposed IES operates reliably and economically under reasonable carbon trading parameters. —As a result of the increasing demand for different energies with technological development, and with the rapid development of energy hubs (EHs), issues such as computation speed, big data and information privacy, robustness, etc. are becoming increasingly vital. Also, the problem of communication packet loss leads to an incompatibility between the generated and consumed energy. In response to the above problems, this paper proposes an Internet of things-Fog-Cloud distributed consensus-based energy management algorithm to optimally solve the energy mismatch problem in an EH environment considering communication information loss and uncertainties of some EH elements. A MATLAB/Simulink-based model of a hypothetical EH system is modified to support real-time communication. Two case studies are applied to explain the performance and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm under different packet loss scenarios. The system's sensitivity was studied depending on the number of iterations and the uncertainties of the renewable energy sources, energy prices, and load demands. Also, a comparison was made between the results obtained by the proposed method and the optimization results using the genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization techniques. The results prove the applicability and feasibility of the proposed method for the demand management system in EHs. The results show that the proposed algorithm decreases the daily system operating cost from 372.421 to 369.941 $ and the total CO 2 emissions cost from 4848.5 to 4103.1 $. In addition, the daily energy mismatch between the generated and consumed values decreases from 579.85 to 0 kWh in the electrical system and from 435.14 to 0.073 kWh th in the heating system. This paper investigated the combined energy, economic and carbon performances of energy piles used for heating and cooling buildings, an issue that has received limited interest in the past. To address this knowledge gap, a 30-year numerical simulation, calibrated using field data, was conducted for variable building thermal loads, pile spacing, pile length and number of energy piles for a six-storey residential building in Melbourne, Australia. The energy pile system in the annual heating-only mode demonstrated a 75 % reduction in energy consumption and a 5 % reduction in energy costs compared to a natural gas boiler. The energy piles performances in the annual heating-and-cooling mode were significantly higher than in the heating-only mode, demonstrating a 39 % reduction in energy consumption, carbon emissions and energy costs compared to an air-source heat pump. Increasing the pile spacing from 2.05 m to 6.4 m, pile length from 10 m to 20 m, and number of energy piles from 38 to 114 increased the energy, economic and carbon benefits of energy piles by 76 %, 77 % and 119 %, respectively. The results highlight the importance of building thermal loads and pile configuration on assessing the energy, economic and carbon performances of energy piles during early design stages.
