It is not secret that the inadequate planning in a project causes economic loss, delays in the delivery of projects and weakens the institutional image, so it should be planned in such a way as to ensure the expectations of quality, cost and time thus ensuring so its success. A proposal for the Planning of IT projects under the PMI standard is presented hereby, it can be used in organizations to develop projects in this area. An assessment of the current status of project planning in companies managing IT projects in the city of San José de Cucuta (NS) was done for developing it.
