The cooperative, connected, and automated mobility (CCAM) infrastructure plays a key role in understanding and enhancing the environmental perception of autonomous vehicles (AVs) driving in complex urban settings. However, the deployment of CCAM infrastructure necessitates the efficient selection of the computational processing layer and deployment of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models to achieve greater performance of AVs in complex urban environments. In this paper, we propose a computational framework and analyze the effectiveness of a custom-trained DL model (YOLOv8) when deployed in diverse devices and settings at the vehicle-edge-cloud-layered architecture. Our main focus is to understand the interplay and relationship between the DL model's accuracy and execution time during deployment at the layered framework. Therefore, we investigate the trade-offs between accuracy and time by the deployment process of the YOLOv8 model over each layer of the computational framework. We consider the CCAM infrastructures, i.e., sensory devices, computation, and communication at each layer. The findings reveal that the performance metrics results (e.g., 0.842 mAP@0.5) of deployed DL models remain consistent regardless of the device type across any layer of the framework. However, we observe that inference times for object detection tasks tend to decrease when the DL model is subjected to different environmental conditions. For instance, the Jetson AGX (non-GPU) outperforms the Raspberry Pi (non-GPU) by reducing inference time by 72%, whereas the Jetson AGX Xavier (GPU) outperforms the Jetson AGX ARMv8 (non-GPU) by reducing inference time by 90%. Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (V-SLAM) plays a crucial role in the development of intelligent robotics and autonomous navigation systems. However, it still faces significant challenges in handling highly dynamic environments. The prevalent method currently used for dynamic object recognition in the environment is deep learning. However, models such as Yolov5 and Mask R-CNN require significant computational resources, which limits their potential in real-time applications due to hardware and time constraints. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes ADM-SLAM, a visual SLAM system designed for dynamic environments that builds upon the ORB-SLAM2. This system integrates efficient adaptive feature point homogenization extraction, lightweight deep learning semantic segmentation based on an improved DeepLabv3, and multi-view geometric segmentation. It optimizes keyframe extraction, segments potential dynamic objects using contextual information with the semantic segmentation network, and detects the motion states of dynamic objects using multi-view geometric methods, thereby eliminating dynamic interference points. The results indicate that ADM-SLAM outperforms ORB-SLAM2 in dynamic environments, especially in high-dynamic scenes, where it achieves up to a 97% reduction in Absolute Trajectory Error (ATE). The detection of objects on water surfaces is a pivotal technology for the perceptual systems of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). This paper proposes a novel real-time target detection system designed to address the challenges posed by indistinct bottom boundaries and foggy imagery. Our method enhances the YOLOv8s model by incorporating the convolutional block attention module (CBAM) and a self-attention mechanism, examining their impact at various integration points. A dynamic sample assignment strategy was introduced to enhance the precision of our model and accelerate its convergence. To address the challenge of delineating bottom boundaries with clarity, our model employs a two-strategy approach: a threshold filter and a feedforward neural network (FFN) that provides targeted guidance for refining these boundaries. Our model demonstrated exceptional performance, achieving a mean average precision (mAP) of 47.1% on the water surface object dataset, which represents a 1.7% increase over the baseline YOLOv8 model. The dynamic sample assignment strategy contributes a 1.0% improvement on average precision at the intersection over union (IoU) threshold of 0.5 (AP0.5), while the FFN strategy fine-tunes the bottom boundaries and achieves an additional 0.8% improvement in average precision at IoU threshold of 0.75 (AP0.75). The sky may seem big enough for two flying vehicles to collide, but the facts show that mid-air collisions still occur occasionally and are a significant concern. Pilots learn manual tactics to avoid collisions, such as see-and-avoid, but these rules have limitations. Automated solutions have reduced collisions, but these technologies are not mandatory in all countries or airspaces, and they are expensive. These problems have prompted researchers to continue the search for low-cost solutions. One attractive solution is to use computer vision to detect obstacles in the air due to its reduced cost and weight. A well-trained deep learning solution is appealing because object detection is fast in most cases, but it relies entirely on the training data set. The algorithm chosen for this study is optical flow. The optical flow vectors can help us to separate the motion caused by camera motion from the motion caused by incoming objects without relying on training data. This paper describes the development of an optical flow-based airborne obstacle detection algorithm to avoid mid-air collisions. The approach uses the visual information from a monocular camera and detects the obstacles using morphological filters, optical flow, focus of expansion, and a data clustering algorithm. The proposal was evaluated using realistic vision data obtained with a self-developed simulator. The simulator provides different environments, trajectories, and altitudes of flying objects. The results showed that the optical flow-based algorithm detected all incoming obstacles along their trajectories in the experiments. Structural engineers are often required to draw two-dimensional engineering sketches for quick structural analysis, either by hand calculation or using analysis software. However, calculation by hand is slow and error-prone, and the manual conversion of a hand-drawn sketch into a virtual model is tedious and time-consuming. This paper presents a complete and autonomous framework for converting a hand-drawn engineering sketch into an analyzed structural model using a camera and computer vision. In this framework, a computer vision object detection stage initially extracts information about the raw features in the image of the beam diagram. Next, a computer vision number-reading model transcribes any handwritten numerals appearing in the image. Then, feature association models are applied to characterize the relationships among the detected features in order to build a comprehensive structural model. Finally, the structural model generated is analyzed using OpenSees. In the system presented, the object detection model achieves a mean average precision of 99.1%, the number-reading model achieves an accuracy of 99.0%, and the models in the feature association stage achieve accuracies ranging from 95.1% to 99.5%. Overall, the tool analyzes 45.0% of images entirely correctly and the remaining 55.0% of images partially correctly. The proposed framework holds promise for other types of structural sketches, such as trusses and frames. The integration of machine learning and robotics brings promising potential to tackle the application challenges of mobile robot navigation in industries. The real-world environment is highly dynamic and unpredictable, with increasing necessities for efficiency and safety. This demands a multi-faceted approach that combines advanced sensing, robust obstacle detection, and avoidance mechanisms for an effective robot navigation experience. While hybrid methods with default robot operating system (ROS) navigation stack have demonstrated significant results, their performance in real time and highly dynamic environments remains a challenge. These environments are characterized by continuously changing conditions, which can impact the precision of obstacle detection systems and efficient avoidance control decision-making processes. In response to these challenges, this paper presents a novel solution that combines a rapidly exploring random tree (RRT)-integrated ROS navigation stack and a pre-trained YOLOv7 object detection model to enhance the capability of the developed work on the NAV-YOLO system. The proposed approach leveraged the high accuracy of YOLOv7 obstacle detection and the efficient path-planning capabilities of RRT and dynamic windows approach (DWA) to improve the navigation performance of mobile robots in real-world complex and dynamically changing settings. Extensive simulation and real-world robot platform experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed solution. In this paper, we propose an amount estimation method for food intake based on both color and depth images. Two pairs of color and depth images are captured pre- and post-meals. The pre- and post-meal color images are employed to detect food types and food existence regions using Mask R-CNN. The post-meal color image is spatially transformed to match the food region locations between the pre- and post-meal color images. The same transformation is also performed on the post-meal depth image. The pixel values of the post-meal depth image are compensated to reflect 3D position changes caused by the image transformation. In both the pre- and post-meal depth images, a space volume for each food region is calculated by dividing the space between the food surfaces and the camera into multiple tetrahedra. The food intake amounts are estimated as the difference in space volumes calculated from the pre- and post-meal depth images. In substation lightning rod meter reading data taking, the classical object detection model is not suitable for deployment in substation monitoring hardware devices due to its large size, large number of parameters, and slow detection speed, while is difficult to balance detection accuracy and real-time requirements with the existing lightweight object detection model. To address this problem, this paper constructs a lightweight object detection algorithm, YOLOv5-Meter Reading Lighting (YOLOv5-MRL), based on the improved YOLOv5 model's speed while maintaining accuracy. Then, the YOLOv5s are pruned based on the convolutional kernel channel soft pruning algorithm, which greatly reduces the number of parameters in the YOLOv5-MRL model while maintaining a certain accuracy loss. Finally, in order to facilitate the dial reading, the dial external circle fitting method is proposed to calculate the dial reading using the circular angle algorithm. The experimental results on the self-built dataset show that the YOLOv5-MRL object detection model achieves a mean average precision of 96.9%, a detection speed of 5 ms/frame, and a model weight size of 5.5 MB, making it better than other advanced dial reading models. The field of learning-based navigation for mobile robots is experiencing a surge of interest from research and industry sectors. The application of this technology for visual aircraft inspection tasks within a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hangar necessitates efficient perception and obstacle avoidance capabilities to ensure a reliable navigation experience. The present reliance on manual labour, static processes, and outdated technologies limits operation efficiency in the inherently dynamic and increasingly complex nature of the real-world hangar environment. The challenging environment limits the practical application of conventional methods and real-time adaptability to changes. In response to these challenges, recent years research efforts have witnessed advancement with machine learning integration aimed at enhancing navigational capability in both static and dynamic scenarios. However, most of these studies have not been specific to the MRO hangar environment, but related challenges have been addressed, and applicable solutions have been developed. This paper provides a comprehensive review of learning-based strategies with an emphasis on advancements in deep learning, object detection, and the integration of multiple approaches to create hybrid systems. The review delineates the application of learning-based methodologies to real-time navigational tasks, encompassing environment perception, obstacle detection, avoidance, and path planning through the use of vision-based sensors. A vehicle detection algorithm is an indispensable component of intelligent traffic management and control systems, influencing the efficiency and functionality of the system. In this paper, we propose a lightweight improvement method for the YOLOv5 algorithm based on integrated perceptual attention, with few parameters and high detection accuracy. First, we propose a lightweight module IPA with a Transformer encoder based on integrated perceptual attention, which leads to a reduction in the number of parameters while capturing global dependencies for richer contextual information. Second, we propose a lightweight and efficient multiscale spatial channel reconstruction (MSCCR) module that does not increase parameter and computational complexity and facilitates representative feature learning. Finally, we incorporate the IPA module and the MSCCR module into the YOLOv5s backbone network to reduce model parameters and improve accuracy. The test results show that, compared with the original model, the model parameters decrease by about 9%, the average accuracy (mAP@50) increases by 3.1%, and the FLOPS does not increase. Ship fire may result in significant damage to its structure and large economic loss. Hence, the prompt identification of fires is essential in order to provide prompt reactions and effective mitigation strategies. However, conventional detection systems exhibit limited efficacy and accuracy in detecting targets, which has been mostly attributed to limitations imposed by distance constraints and the motion of ships. Although the development of deep learning algorithms provides a potential solution, the computational complexity of ship fire detection algorithm pose significant challenges. To solve this, this paper proposes a lightweight ship fire detection algorithm based on YOLOv8n. Initially, a dataset, including more than 4000 unduplicated images and their labels, is established before training. In order to ensure the performance of algorithms, both fire inside ship rooms and also fire on board are considered. Then after tests, YOLOv8n is selected as the model with the best performance and fastest speed from among several advanced object detection algorithms. GhostnetV2-C2F is then inserted in the backbone of the algorithm for long-range attention with inexpensive operation. In addition, spatial and channel reconstruction convolution (SCConv) is used to reduce redundant features with significantly lower complexity and computational costs for real-time ship fire detection. For the neck part, omni-dimensional dynamic convolution is used for the multi-dimensional attention mechanism, which also lowers the parameters. After these improvements, a lighter and more accurate YOLOv8n algorithm, called Ship-Fire Net, was proposed. The proposed method exceeds 0.93, both in precision and recall for fire and smoke detection in ships. In addition, the mAP@0.5 reaches about 0.9. Despite the improvement in accuracy, Ship-Fire Net also has fewer parameters and lower FLOPs compared to the original, which accelerates its detection speed. With the increase in urban rail transit construction, instances of tunnel disease are on the rise, and cracks have become the focus of tunnel maintenance and management. Therefore, it is essential to carry out crack detection in a timely and efficient manner to not only prolong the service life of the tunnel but also reduce the incidence of accidents. In this paper, the design and structure of a tunnel crack detection system are analyzed. On this basis, this paper proposes a new method for crack identification and feature detection using image processing technology. This method fully considers the characteristics of tunnel images and the combination of these characteristics with deep learning, while a deep convolutional network (Single-Shot MultiBox Detector (SSD)) is proposed based on deep learning for object detection in complex images. The experimental results show that the test set accuracy and training set accuracy of the support vector machine (SVM) in the classification comparison test are up to 88% and 87.8%, respectively; while the test accuracy of Alexnet's deep convolutional neural network-based classification and identification is up to 96.7%, and the training set accuracy is up to 97.5%. It can be seen that this deep convolutional network recognition algorithm based on deep learning and image processing is better and more suitable for the detection of cracks in subway tunnels. Most of the buildings that exist today were built based on 2D drawings. Building information models that represent design-stage product information have become prevalent in the second decade of the 21st century. Still, it will take many decades before such models become the norm for all existing buildings. In the meantime, the building industry lacks the tools to leverage the benefits of digital information management for construction, operation, and renovation. To this end, this paper reviews the state-of-the-art practice and research for constructing (generating) and maintaining (updating) geometric digital twins. This paper also highlights the key limitations preventing current research from being adopted in practice and derives a new geometry-based object class hierarchy that mainly focuses on the geometric properties of building objects, in contrast to widely used existing object categorisations that are mainly function-oriented. We argue that this new class hierarchy can serve as the main building block for prioritising the automation of the most frequently used object classes for geometric digital twin construction and maintenance. We also draw novel insights into the limitations of current methods and uncover further research directions to tackle these problems. Specifically, we believe that adapting deep learning methods can increase the robustness of object detection and segmentation of various types; involving design intents can achieve a high resolution of model construction and maintenance; using images as a complementary input can help to detect transparent and specular objects; and combining synthetic data for algorithm training can overcome the lack of real labelled datasets. Wildlife is an important part of natural ecosystems and protecting wildlife plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. The wildlife detection method for images and videos based on deep learning can save a lot of labor costs and is of great significance and value for the monitoring and protection of wildlife. However, the complex and changing outdoor environment often leads to less than satisfactory detection results due to insufficient lighting, mutual occlusion, and blurriness. The TMS-YOLO (Takin, Monkey, and Snow Leopard-You Only Look Once) proposed in this paper is a modification of YOLOv7, specifically optimized for wildlife detection. It uses the designed O-ELAN (Optimized Efficient Layer Aggregation Networks) and O-SPPCSPC (Optimized Spatial Pyramid Pooling Combined with Cross Stage Partial Channel) modules and incorporates the CBAM (Convolutional Block Attention Module) to enhance its suitability for this task. In simple terms, O-ELAN can preserve a portion of the original features through residual structures when extracting image features, resulting in more background and animal features. However, O-ELAN may include more background information in the extracted features. Therefore, we use CBAM after the backbone to suppress background features and enhance animal features. Then, when fusing the features, we use O-SPPCSPC with fewer network layers to avoid overfitting. Comparative experiments were conducted on a self-built dataset and a Turkish wildlife dataset. The results demonstrated that the enhanced TMS-YOLO models outperformed YOLOv7 on both datasets. The mAP (mean Average Precision) of YOLOv7 on the two datasets was 90.5% and 94.6%, respectively. In contrast, the mAP of TMS-YOLO in the two datasets was 93.4% and 95%, respectively. These findings indicate that TMS-YOLO can achieve more accurate wildlife detection compared to YOLOv7. 4D millimeter wave (mmWave) imaging radar is a new type of vehicle sensor technology that is critical to autonomous driving systems due to its lower cost and robustness in complex weather. However, the sparseness and noise of point clouds are still the main problems restricting the practical application of 4D imaging radar. In this paper, we introduce SMIFormer, a multi-view feature fusion network framework based on 4D radar single-modal input. SMIFormer decouples the 3D point cloud scene into 3 independent but interrelated perspectives, including bird's-eye view (BEV), front view (FV), and side view (SV), thereby better modeling the entire 3D scene and overcoming the shortcomings of insufficient feature representation capabilities under single-view built from extremely sparse point clouds. For multi-view features, we proposed multi-view feature interaction (MVI) to exploit the inner relationship between different views by integrating features from intra-view interaction and cross-view interaction. We evaluated the proposed SMIFormer on the View-of-Delft (VoD) dataset. The mAP of our method reached 48.77 and 71.13 in the fully annotated area and the driving corridor area, respectively. Many modern automated vehicle sensor systems use light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensors. The prevailing technology is scanning LiDAR, where a collimated laser beam illuminates objects sequentially point-by-point to capture 3D range data. In current systems, the point clouds from the LiDAR sensors are mainly used for object detection. To estimate the velocity of an object of interest (OoI) in the point cloud, the tracking of the object or sensor data fusion is needed. Scanning LiDAR sensors show the motion distortion effect, which occurs when objects have a relative velocity to the sensor. Often, this effect is filtered, by using sensor data fusion, to use an undistorted point cloud for object detection. In this study, we developed a method using an artificial neural network to estimate an object's velocity and direction of motion in the sensor's field of view (FoV) based on the motion distortion effect without any sensor data fusion. This network was trained and evaluated with a synthetic dataset featuring the motion distortion effect. With the method presented in this paper, one can estimate the velocity and direction of an OoI that moves independently from the sensor from a single point cloud using only one single sensor. The method achieves a root mean squared error (RMSE) of 0.1187 m s−1 and a two-sigma confidence interval of [ − 0.0008 m s−1, 0.0017 m s−1] for the axis-wise estimation of an object's relative velocity, and an RMSE of 0.0815 m s−1 and a two-sigma confidence interval of [ 0.0138 m s−1, 0.0170 m s−1] for the estimation of the resultant velocity. The extracted velocity information (4D-LiDAR) is available for motion prediction and object tracking and can lead to more reliable velocity data due to more redundancy for sensor data fusion. This paper proposes a multimodal fusion 3D target detection algorithm based on the attention mechanism to improve the performance of 3D target detection. The algorithm utilizes point cloud data and information from the camera. For image feature extraction, the ResNet50 + FPN architecture extracts features at four levels. Point cloud feature extraction employs the voxel method and FCN to extract point and voxel features. The fusion of image and point cloud features is achieved through regional point fusion and voxel fusion methods. After information fusion, the Coordinate and SimAM attention mechanisms extract fusion features at a deep level. The algorithm's performance is evaluated using the DAIR-V2X dataset. The results show that compared to the Part-A2 algorithm; the proposed algorithm improves the mAP value by 7.9% in the BEV view and 7.8% in the 3D view at IOU = 0.5 (cars) and IOU = 0.25 (pedestrians and cyclists). At IOU = 0.7 (cars) and IOU = 0.5 (pedestrians and cyclists), the mAP value of the SECOND algorithm is improved by 5.4% in the BEV view and 4.3% in the 3D view, compared to other comparison algorithms. This paper presents a benchmark analysis of NVIDIA Jetson platforms when operating deep learning-based 3D object detection frameworks. Three-dimensional (3D) object detection could be highly beneficial for the autonomous navigation of robotic platforms, such as autonomous vehicles, robots, and drones. Since the function provides one-shot inference that extracts 3D positions with depth information and the heading direction of neighboring objects, robots can generate a reliable path to navigate without collision. To enable the smooth functioning of 3D object detection, several approaches have been developed to build detectors using deep learning for fast and accurate inference. In this paper, we investigate 3D object detectors and analyze their performance on the NVIDIA Jetson series that contain an onboard graphical processing unit (GPU) for deep learning computation. Since robotic platforms often require real-time control to avoid dynamic obstacles, onboard processing with a built-in computer is an emerging trend. The Jetson series satisfies such requirements with a compact board size and suitable computational performance for autonomous navigation. However, a proper benchmark that analyzes the Jetson for a computationally expensive task, such as point cloud processing, has not yet been extensively studied. In order to examine the Jetson series for such expensive tasks, we tested the performance of all commercially available boards (i.e., Nano, TX2, NX, and AGX) with state-of-the-art 3D object detectors. We also evaluated the effect of the TensorRT library to optimize a deep learning model for faster inference and lower resource utilization on the Jetson platforms. We present benchmark results in terms of three metrics, including detection accuracy, frame per second (FPS), and resource usage with power consumption. From the experiments, we observe that all Jetson boards, on average, consume over 80% of GPU resources. Moreover, TensorRT could remarkably increase inference speed (i.e., four times faster) and reduce the central processing unit (CPU) and memory consumption in half. Complete autonomous systems such as self-driving cars to ensure the high reliability and safety of humans need the most efficient combination of four-dimensional (4D) detection, exact localization, and artificial intelligent (AI) networking to establish a fully automated smart transportation system. At present, multiple integrated sensors such as light detection and ranging (LiDAR), radio detection and ranging (RADAR), and car cameras are frequently used for object detection and localization in the conventional autonomous transportation system. Moreover, the global positioning system (GPS) is used for the positioning of autonomous vehicles (AV). These individual systems' detection, localization, and positioning efficiency are insufficient for AV systems. In addition, they do not have any reliable networking system for self-driving cars carrying us and goods on the road. Although the sensor fusion technology of car sensors came up with good efficiency for detection and location, the proposed convolutional neural networking approach will assist to achieve a higher accuracy of 4D detection, precise localization, and real-time positioning. Moreover, this work will establish a strong AI network for AV far monitoring and data transmission systems. The proposed networking system efficiency remains the same on under-sky highways as well in various tunnel roads where GPS does not work properly. For the first time, modified traffic surveillance cameras have been exploited in this conceptual paper as an external image source for AV and anchor sensing nodes to complete AI networking transportation systems. This work approaches a model that solves AVs' fundamental detection, localization, positioning, and networking challenges with advanced image processing, sensor fusion, feathers matching, and AI networking technology. To overcome the problems of long production cycle and high cost in the product manufacturing process, a P2P (platform to platform) cloud manufacturing method based on a personalized custom business model has been proposed in this paper by integrating different technologies such as deep learning and additive manufacturing (AM). This paper focuses on the manufacturing process from a photo containing an entity to the production of that entity. Essentially, this is an object-to-object fabrication. Moreover, based on the YOLOv4 algorithm and DVR technology, an object detection extractor and a 3D data generator are constructed, and a case study is carried out for a 3D printing service scenario. The case study selects online sofa photos and real car photos. The recognition rates of sofa and car were 59% and 100%, respectively. Retrograde conversion from 2D data to 3D data takes approximately 60 s. We also carry out personalized transformation design on the generated sofa digital 3D model. To date, comprehensive reviews and discussions of the strengths and limitations of Remote Sensing (RS) standalone and combination approaches, and Deep Learning (DL)-based RS datasets in archaeology have been limited. The objective of this paper is, therefore, to review and critically discuss existing studies that have applied these advanced approaches in archaeology, with a specific focus on digital preservation and object detection. RS standalone approaches including range-based and image-based modelling (e.g., laser scanning and SfM photogrammetry) have several disadvantages in terms of spatial resolution, penetrations, textures, colours, and accuracy. These limitations have led some archaeological studies to fuse/integrate multiple RS datasets to overcome limitations and produce comparatively detailed outcomes. However, there are still knowledge gaps in examining the effectiveness of these RS approaches in enhancing the detection of archaeological remains/areas. Deep Learning (DL) has provided a significant breakthrough in many areas of research and industry. The development of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) has enabled the improvement of computer vision-based techniques, making the information gathered from cameras more useful. For this reason, recently, studies have been carried out on the use of image-based DL in some areas of people's daily life. In this paper, an object detection-based algorithm is proposed to modify and improve the user experience in relation to the use of cooking appliances. The algorithm can sense common kitchen objects and identify interesting situations for users. Some of these situations are the detection of utensils on lit hobs, recognition of boiling, smoking and oil in kitchenware, and determination of good cookware size adjustment, among others. In addition, the authors have achieved sensor fusion by using a cooker hob with Bluetooth connectivity, so it is possible to automatically interact with it via an external device such as a computer or a mobile phone. Our main contribution focuses on supporting people when they are cooking, controlling heaters, or alerting them with different types of alarms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time a YOLO algorithm has been used to control the cooktop by means of visual sensorization. Moreover, this research paper provides a comparison of the detection performance among different YOLO networks. Additionally, a dataset of more than 7500 images has been generated and multiple data augmentation techniques have been compared. The results show that YOLOv5s can successfully detect common kitchen objects with high accuracy and fast speed, and it can be employed for realistic cooking environment applications. High dynamic range (HDR) imaging technology is increasingly being used in automated driving systems (ADS) for improving the safety of traffic participants in scenes with strong differences in illumination. Therefore, a combination of HDR video, that is video with details in all illumination regimes, and (HDR) object perception techniques that can deal with this variety in illumination is highly desirable. Although progress has been made in both HDR imaging solutions and object detection algorithms in the recent years, they have progressed independently of each other. This has led to a situation in which object detection algorithms are typically designed and constantly improved to operate on 8 bit per channel content. This makes these algorithms not ideally suited for use in HDR data processing, which natively encodes to a higher bit-depth (12 bits/16 bits per channel). In this paper, we present and evaluate two novel convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures that intelligently convert high bit depth HDR images into 8-bit images. We attempt to optimize reconstruction quality by focusing on ADS object detection quality. The first research novelty is to jointly perform tone-mapping with demosaicing by additionally successfully suppressing noise and demosaicing artifacts. The first CNN performs tone-mapping with noise suppression on a full-color HDR input, while the second performs joint demosaicing and tone-mapping with noise suppression on a raw HDR input. The focus is to increase the detectability of traffic-related objects in the reconstructed 8-bit content, while ensuring that the realism of the standard dynamic range (SDR) content in diverse conditions is preserved. The second research novelty is that for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, a thorough comparative analysis against the state-of-the-art tone-mapping and demosaicing methods is performed with respect to ADS object detection accuracy on traffic-related content that abounds with diverse challenging (i.e., boundary cases) scenes. The evaluation results show that the two proposed networks have better performance in object detection accuracy and image quality, than both SDR content and content obtained with the state-of-the-art tone-mapping and demosaicing algorithms. Recognition of surrounding objects is crucial for ensuring the safety of automated driving systems. In the realm of 3D object recognition through deep learning, several methods incorporate the fusion of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and camera data. The effectiveness of the LiDAR–camera fusion approach is widely acknowledged due to its ability to provide a richer source of information for object detection compared to methods that rely solely on individual sensors. Within the framework of the LiDAR–camera multistage fusion method, challenges arise in maintaining stable object recognition, especially under adverse conditions where object detection in camera images becomes challenging, such as during night-time or in rainy weather. In this research paper, we introduce "ExistenceMap-PointPillars", a novel and effective approach for 3D object detection that leverages information from multiple sensors. This approach involves a straightforward modification of the LiDAR-based 3D object detection network. The core concept of ExistenceMap-PointPillars revolves around the integration of pseudo 2D maps, which depict the estimated object existence regions derived from the fused sensor data in a probabilistic manner. These maps are then incorporated into a pseudo image generated from a 3D point cloud. Our experimental results, based on our proprietary dataset, demonstrate the substantial improvements achieved by ExistenceMap-PointPillars. Specifically, it enhances the mean Average Precision (mAP) by a noteworthy +4.19% compared to the conventional PointPillars method. Additionally, we conducted an evaluation of the network's response using Grad-CAM in conjunction with ExistenceMap-PointPillars, which exhibited a heightened focus on the existence regions of objects within the pseudo 2D map. In the viticulture sector, robots are being employed more frequently to increase productivity and accuracy in operations such as vineyard mapping, pruning, and harvesting, especially in locations where human labor is in short supply or expensive. This paper presents the development of an algorithm for grape maturity estimation in the framework of vineyard management. An object detection algorithm is proposed based on You Only Look Once (YOLO) v7 and its extensions in order to detect grape maturity in a white variety of grape (Assyrtiko grape variety). The proposed algorithm was trained using images received over a period of six weeks from grapevines in Drama, Greece. Tests on high-quality images have demonstrated that the detection of five grape maturity stages is possible. Furthermore, the proposed approach has been compared against alternative object detection algorithms. The results showed that YOLO v7 outperforms other architectures both in precision and accuracy. To solve the problems of low accuracy and false counts of existing models in road damage object detection and tracking, in this paper, we propose Road-TransTrack, a tracking model based on transformer optimization. First, using the classification network based on YOLOv5, the collected road damage images are classified into two categories, potholes and cracks, and made into a road damage dataset. Then, the proposed tracking model is improved with a transformer and a self-attention mechanism. Finally, the trained model is used to detect actual road videos to verify its effectiveness. The proposed tracking network shows a good detection performance with an accuracy of 91.60% and 98.59% for road cracks and potholes, respectively, and an F1 score of 0.9417 and 0.9847. The experimental results show that Road-TransTrack outperforms current conventional convolutional neural networks in terms of the detection accuracy and counting accuracy in road damage object detection and tracking tasks. The Voxel Transformer (VoTr) is a prominent model in the field of 3D object detection, employing a transformer-based architecture to comprehend long-range voxel relationships through self-attention. However, despite its expanded receptive field, VoTr's flexibility is constrained by its predefined receptive field. In this paper, we present a Voxel Transformer with Density-Aware Deformable Attention (VoTr-DADA), a novel approach to 3D object detection. VoTr-DADA leverages density-guided deformable attention for a more adaptable receptive field. It efficiently identifies key areas in the input using density features, combining the strengths of both VoTr and Deformable Attention. We introduce the Density-Aware Deformable Attention (DADA) module, which is specifically designed to focus on these crucial areas while adaptively extracting more informative features. The power sector is one of the most important engineering sectors, with a lot of equipment that needs to be appropriately maintained, often spread over large areas. With the recent advances in deep learning techniques, many applications can be developed that could be used to automate the power line inspection process, replacing previously manual activities. However, in addition to these novel algorithms, this approach requires specialized datasets, collections that have been properly curated and labeled with the help of experts in the field. When it comes to visual inspection processes, these data are mainly images of various types. This paper consists of two main parts. The first one presents information about datasets used in machine learning, especially deep learning. The need to create domain datasets is justified using the example of the collection of data on power infrastructure objects, and the selected repositories of different collections are compared. Traffic sign detection is a crucial task in computer vision, finding wide-ranging applications in intelligent transportation systems, autonomous driving, and traffic safety. However, due to the complexity and variability of traffic environments and the small size of traffic signs, detecting small traffic signs in real-world scenes remains a challenging problem. In order to improve the recognition of road traffic signs, this paper proposes a small object detection algorithm for traffic signs based on the improved YOLOv7. First, the small target detection layer in the neck region was added to augment the detection capability for small traffic sign targets. Simultaneously, the integration of self-attention and convolutional mix modules (ACmix) was applied to the newly added small target detection layer, enabling the capture of additional feature information through the convolutional and self-attention channels within ACmix. Furthermore, the feature extraction capability of the convolution modules was enhanced by replacing the regular convolution modules in the neck layer with omni-dimensional dynamic convolution (ODConv). To further enhance the accuracy of small target detection, the normalized Gaussian Wasserstein distance (NWD) metric was introduced to mitigate the sensitivity to minor positional deviations of small objects. The experimental results on the challenging public dataset TT100K demonstrate that the SANO-YOLOv7 algorithm achieved an 88.7% mAP@0.5, outperforming the baseline model YOLOv7 by 5.3%. Object detection and tracking in camera images is a fundamental technology for computer vision and is used in various applications. In particular, object tracking using high-speed cameras is expected to be applied to real-time control in robotics. Therefore, it is required to increase tracking speed and detection accuracy. Currently, however, it is difficult to achieve both of those things simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a tracking method that combines multiple methods: correlation filter-based object tracking, deep learning-based object detection, and motion detection with background subtraction. The algorithms work in parallel and assist each other's processing to improve the overall performance of the system. We named it the "Mutual Assist tracker of feature Filters and Detectors (MAFiD method)". This method aims to achieve both high-speed tracking of moving objects and high detection accuracy. Experiments were conducted to verify the detection performance and processing speed by tracking a transparent capsule moving at high speed. The results show that the tracking speed was 618 frames per second (FPS) and the accuracy was 86% for Intersection over Union (IoU). The detection latency was 3.48 ms. These experimental scores are higher than those of conventional methods, indicating that the MAFiD method achieved fast object tracking while maintaining high detection performance. Defect detection in steel surface focuses on accurately identifying and precisely locating defects on the surface of steel materials. Methods of defect detection with deep learning have gained significant attention in research. Existing algorithms can achieve satisfactory results, but the accuracy of defect detection still needs to be improved. Aiming at this issue, a hybrid attention network is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a CBAM attention module is used to enhance the model's ability to learn effective features. Secondly, an adaptively spatial feature fusion (ASFF) module is used to improve the accuracy by extracting multi-scale information of defects. Finally, the CIOU algorithm is introduced to optimize the training loss of the baseline model. The experimental results show that the performance of our method in this work is superior on the NEU-DET dataset, with an 8.34% improvement in mAP. Compared with major algorithms of object detection such as SSD, EfficientNet, YOLOV3, and YOLOV5, the mAP was improved by 16.36%, 41.68%, 20.79%, and 13.96%, respectively. In this comprehensive review paper, we explore the realm of vision-based deep learning methods for parking slot detection. We categorize these methods into four main categories: object detection, image segmentation, regression, and graph neural network, and provide detailed explanations and insights into the unique features and strengths of each category. Additionally, we analyze the performance of these methods using three widely used datasets: the Tongji Parking-slot Dataset 2.0 (ps 2.0), Sejong National University (SNU) dataset, and panoramic surround view (PSV) dataset, which have played a crucial role in assessing advancements in parking slot detection. In image captioning models, the main challenge in describing an image is identifying all the objects by precisely considering the relationships between the objects and producing various captions. Over the past few years, many methods have been proposed, from an attribute-to-attribute comparison approach to handling issues related to semantics and their relationships. Despite the improvements, the existing techniques suffer from inadequate positional and geometrical attributes concepts. The reason is that most of the abovementioned approaches depend on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for object detection. CNN is notorious for failing to detect equivariance and rotational invariance in objects. Moreover, the pooling layers in CNNs cause valuable information to be lost. Inspired by the recent successful approaches, this paper introduces a novel framework for extracting meaningful descriptions based on a parallelized capsule network that describes the content of images through a high level of understanding of the semantic contents of an image. The main contribution of this paper is proposing a new method that not only overrides the limitations of CNNs but also generates descriptions with a wide variety of words by using Wikipedia. In our framework, capsules focus on the generation of meaningful descriptions with more detailed spatial and geometrical attributes for a given set of images by considering the position of the entities as well as their relationships. Qualitative experiments on the benchmark dataset MS-COCO show that our framework outperforms state-of-the-art image captioning models when describing the semantic content of the images. Lane marking recognition is one of the most crucial features for automotive vehicles as it is one of the most fundamental requirements of all the autonomy features of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Researchers have recently made promising improvements in the application of Lane Marking Detection (LMD). This research article has taken the initiative to review lane marking detection, mainly using deep learning techniques. This paper initially discusses the introduction of lane marking detection approaches using deep neural networks and conventional techniques. Lane marking detection frameworks can be categorized into single-stage and two-stage architectures. This paper elaborates on the network's architecture and the loss function for improving the performance based on the categories. The network's architecture is divided into object detection, classification, and segmentation, and each is discussed, including their contributions and limitations. There is also a brief indication of the simplification and optimization of the network for simplifying the architecture. Additionally, comparative performance results with a visualization of the final output of five existing techniques is elaborated. Finally, this review is concluded by pointing to particular challenges in lane marking detection, such as generalization problems and computational complexity. This paper proposes a deep learning based object detection method to locate a distant region in an image in real-time. It concentrates on distant objects from a vehicular front camcorder perspective, trying to solve one of the common problems in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) applications, which is, to detect the smaller and faraway objects with the same confidence as those with the bigger and closer objects. This paper presents an efficient multi-scale object detection network, termed as ConcentrateNet to detect a vanishing point and concentrate on the near-distant region. Initially, the object detection model inferencing will produce a larger scale of receptive field detection results and predict a potentially vanishing point location, that is, the farthest location in the frame. Then, the image is cropped near the vanishing point location and processed with the object detection model for second inferencing to obtain distant object detection results. Finally, the two-inferencing results are merged with a specific Non-Maximum Suppression (NMS) method. The proposed network architecture can be employed in most of the object detection models as the proposed model is implemented in some of the state-of-the-art object detection models to check feasibility. Compared with original models using higher resolution input size, ConcentrateNet architecture models use lower resolution input size, with less model complexity, achieving significant precision and recall improvements. Deep learning algorithms for object detection used in autonomous vehicles require a huge amount of labeled data. Data collecting and labeling is time consuming and, most importantly, in most cases useful only for a single specific sensor application. Therefore, in the course of the research which is presented in this paper, the LiDAR pedestrian detection algorithm was trained on synthetically generated data and mixed (real and synthetic) datasets. The road environment was simulated with the application of the 3D rendering Carla engine, while the data for analysis were obtained from the LiDAR sensor model. In the proposed approach, the data generated by the simulator are automatically labeled, reshaped into range images and used as training data for a deep learning algorithm. Real data from Waymo open dataset are used to validate the performance of detectors trained on synthetic, real and mixed datasets. YOLOv4 neural network architecture is used for pedestrian detection from the LiDAR data. The goal of this paper is to verify if the synthetically generated data can improve the detector's performance. The development of light detection and ranging (lidar) technology began in the 1960s, following the invention of the laser, which represents the central component of this system, integrating laser scanning with an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and Global Positioning System (GPS). Lidar technology is spreading to many different areas of application, from those in autonomous vehicles for road detection and object recognition, to those in the maritime sector, including object detection for autonomous navigation, monitoring ocean ecosystems, mapping coastal areas, and other diverse applications. This paper presents lidar system technology and reviews its application in the modern road transportation and maritime sector. Some of the better-known lidar systems for practical applications, on which current commercial models are based, are presented, and their advantages and disadvantages are described and analyzed. Moreover, current challenges and future trends of application are discussed. This paper also provides a systematic review of recent scientific research on the application of lidar system technology and the corresponding computational algorithms for data analysis, mainly focusing on deep learning algorithms, in the modern road transportation and maritime sector, based on an extensive analysis of the available scientific literature. Network pruning techniques have been widely used for compressing computational and memory intensive deep learning models through removing redundant components of the model. According to the pruning granularity, network pruning can be categorized into structured and unstructured methods. The structured pruning removes the large components in a model such as channels or layers, which might reduce the accuracy. The unstructured pruning directly removes mainly the parameters in a model as well as the redundant channels or layers, which might result in an inadequate pruning. To address the limitations of the pruning methods, this paper proposes a heuristic method for minimizing model size. This paper implements an algorithm to combine both the structured and the unstructured pruning methods while maintaining the target accuracy that is configured by its application. We use network slimming for the structured pruning method and deep compression for the unstructured one. Our method achieves a higher compression ratio than the case when the individual pruning method is applied. To show the effectiveness of our proposed method, this paper evaluates our proposed method with actual state-of-the-art CNN models of VGGNet, ResNet and DenseNet under the CIFAR-10 dataset. This paper discusses the performance of the proposed method with the cases of individual usage of the structured and unstructured pruning methods and then proves that our method achieves better performance with higher compression ratio. In the best case of the VGGNet, our method results in a 13× reduction ratio in the model size, and also gives a 15× reduction ratio regarding the pruning time compared with the brute-force search method. Meter reading is an important part of intelligent inspection, and the current meter reading method based on target detection has problems of low accuracy and large error. In order to improve the accuracy of automatic meter reading, this paper proposes an automatic reading method for pointer-type meters based on the YOLOv5-Meter Reading (YOLOv5-MR) model. Firstly, in order to improve the detection performance of small targets in YOLOv5 framework, a multi-scale target detection layer is added to the YOLOv5 framework, and a set of Anchors is designed based on the lightning rod dial data set; secondly, the loss function and up-sampling method are improved to enhance the model training convergence speed and obtain the optimal up-sampling parameters; Finally, a new external circle fitting method of the dial is proposed, and the dial reading is calculated by the center angle algorithm. The experimental results on the self-built dataset show that the Mean Average Precision (mAP) of the YOLOv5-MR target detection model reaches 79%, which is 3% better than the YOLOv5 model, and outperforms other advanced pointer-type meter reading models. The casting process involves pouring molten metal into a mold cavity. Currently, traditional object detection algorithms exhibit a low accuracy and are rarely used. An object detection model based on deep learning requires a large amount of memory and poses challenges in the deployment and resource allocation for resource limited pouring robots. To address the accurate identification and localization of pouring holes with limited resources, this paper designs a lightweight pouring robot hole detection algorithm named LPO-YOLOv5s, based on YOLOv5s. First, the MobileNetv3 network is introduced as a feature extraction network, to reduce model complexity and the number of parameters. Second, a depthwise separable information fusion module (DSIFM) is designed, and a lightweight operator called CARAFE is employed for feature upsampling, to enhance the feature extraction capability of the network. Finally, a dynamic head (DyHead) is adopted during the network prediction stage, to improve the detection performance. Extensive experiments were conducted on a pouring hole dataset, to evaluate the proposed method. Compared to YOLOv5s, our LPO-YOLOv5s algorithm reduces the parameter size by 45% and decreases computational costs by 55%, while sacrificing only 0.1% of mean average precision (mAP). Although Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) sensors have advantages in terms of robustness in bad weather and low-light conditions, the SWIR images have not been well studied for automated object detection and tracking systems. The majority of previous multi-object tracking studies have focused on pedestrian tracking in visible-spectrum images, but tracking different types of vehicles is also important in city-surveillance scenarios. In addition, the previous studies were based on high-computing-power environments such as GPU workstations or servers, but edge computing should be considered to reduce network bandwidth usage and privacy concerns in city-surveillance scenarios. In this paper, we propose a fast and effective multi-object tracking method, called Multi-Class Distance-based Tracking (MCDTrack), on SWIR images of city-surveillance scenarios in a low-power and low-computation edge-computing environment. Eight-bit integer quantized object detection models are used, and simple distance and IoU-based similarity scores are employed to realize effective multi-object tracking in an edge-computing environment. Our MCDTrack is not only superior to previous multi-object tracking methods but also shows high tracking accuracy of 77.5% MOTA and 80.2% IDF1 although the object detection and tracking are performed on the edge-computing device. Coal flow in belt conveyors is often mixed with foreign objects, such as anchor rods, angle irons, wooden bars, gangue, and large coal chunks, leading to belt tearing, blockages at transfer points, or even belt breakage. Fast and effective detection of these foreign objects is vital to ensure belt conveyors' safe and smooth operation. This paper proposes an improved YOLOv5-based method for rapid and low-parameter detection and recognition of non-coal foreign objects. Firstly, a new dataset containing foreign objects on conveyor belts is established for training and testing. Considering the high-speed operation of belt conveyors and the increased demands for inspection robot data collection frequency and real-time algorithm processing, this study employs a dark channel dehazing method to preprocess the raw data collected by the inspection robot in harsh mining environments, thus enhancing image clarity. Subsequently, improvements are made to the backbone and neck of YOLOv5 to achieve a deep lightweight object detection network that ensures detection speed and accuracy. The experimental results demonstrate that the improved model achieves a detection accuracy of 94.9% on the proposed foreign object dataset. Compared to YOLOv5s, the model parameters, inference time, and computational load are reduced by 43.1%, 54.1%, and 43.6%, respectively, while the detection accuracy is improved by 2.5%. These findings are significant for enhancing the detection speed of foreign object recognition and facilitating its application in edge computing devices, thus ensuring belt conveyors' safe and efficient operation. AVs are affected by reduced maneuverability and performance due to the degradation of sensor performances in fog. Such degradation can cause significant object detection errors in AVs' safety-critical conditions. For instance, YOLOv5 performs well under favorable weather but is affected by mis-detections and false positives due to atmospheric scattering caused by fog particles. The existing deep object detection techniques often exhibit a high degree of accuracy. Their drawback is being sluggish in object detection in fog. Object detection methods with a fast detection speed have been obtained using deep learning at the expense of accuracy. The problem of the lack of balance between detection speed and accuracy in fog persists. This paper presents an improved YOLOv5-based multi-sensor fusion network that combines radar object detection with a camera image bounding box. We transformed radar detection by mapping the radar detections into a two-dimensional image coordinate and projected the resultant radar image onto the camera image. Using the attention mechanism, we emphasized and improved the important feature representation used for object detection while reducing high-level feature information loss. We trained and tested our multi-sensor fusion network on clear and multi-fog weather datasets obtained from the CARLA simulator. Our results show that the proposed method significantly enhances the detection of small and distant objects. Nowadays, Convolution Neural Network (CNN) based deep learning methods are widely used in detecting and classifying fruits from faults, color and size characteristics. In this study, two different neural network model estimators are employed to detect apples using the Single-Shot Multibox Detection (SSD) Mobilenet and Faster Region-CNN (Faster R-CNN) model architectures, with the custom dataset generated from the red apple species. Each neural network model is trained with created dataset using 4000 apple images. With the trained model, apples are detected and counted autonomously using the developed Flying Robotic System (FRS) in a commercially produced apple orchard. In this way, it is aimed that producers make accurate yield forecasts before commercial agreements. In this paper, SSD-Mobilenet and Faster R-CNN architecture models trained with COCO datasets referenced in many studies, and SSD-Mobilenet and Faster R-CNN models trained with a learning rate ranging from 0.015–0.04 using the custom dataset are compared experimentally in terms of performance. In the experiments implemented, it is observed that the accuracy rates of the proposed models increased to the level of 93%. Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) is one of the many utilities made possible by embedded systems with internet connections. Through the usage of vehicular cameras, it's possible to capture and classify traffic signs in real time with Artificial Intelligence (AI), more specifically, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) based techniques. This article discusses the implementation of such TSR systems, and the building process of datasets for AI training. Such datasets include a brand new class to be used in TSR, vegetation occlusion. The results show that this approach is useful in making traffic sign maintenance faster since this application turns vehicles into moving sensors in that context. Leaning on the proposed technique, identified irregularities in traffic signs can be reported to a responsible body so they will eventually be fixed, contributing to a safer traffic environment. Introduction: Object detection in remotely sensed satellite images is critical to socio-economic, bio-physical, and environmental monitoring, necessary for the prevention of natural disasters such as flooding and fires, socio-economic service delivery, and general urban and rural planning and management. Whereas deep learning approaches have recently gained popularity in remotely sensed image analysis, they have been unable to efficiently detect image objects due to complex landscape heterogeneity, high inter-class similarity and intra-class diversity, and difficulty in acquiring suitable training data that represents the complexities, among others. Methods: To address these challenges, this study employed multi-object detection deep learning algorithms with a transfer learning approach on remotely sensed satellite imagery captured on a heterogeneous landscape. In the study, a new dataset of diverse features with five object classes collected from Google Earth Engine in various locations in southern KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa was used to evaluate the models. The dataset images were characterized with objects that have varying sizes and resolutions. Five (5) object detection methods based on R-CNN and YOLO architectures were investigated via experiments on our newly created dataset. Conclusions: This paper provides a comprehensive performance evaluation and analysis of the recent deep learning-based object detection methods for detecting objects in high-resolution remote sensing satellite images. The models were also evaluated on two publicly available datasets: Visdron and PASCAL VOC2007. Results showed that the highest detection accuracy of the vegetation and swimming pool instances was more than 90%, and the fastest detection speed 0.2 ms was observed in YOLOv8. The major problem in Thailand related to parking is time violation. Vehicles are not allowed to park for more than a specified amount of time. Implementation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance cameras along with human labor is the present remedy. However, this paper presents an approach that can introduce a low-cost time violation tracking system using CCTV, Deep Learning models, and object tracking algorithms. This approach is fairly new because of its appliance of the SOTA detection technique, object tracking approach, and time boundary implementations. YOLOv8, along with the DeepSORT/OC-SORT algorithm, is utilized for the detection and tracking that allows us to set a timer and track the time violation. Using the same apparatus along with Deep Learning models and algorithms has produced a better system with better performance. The performance of both tracking algorithms was well depicted in the results, obtaining MOTA scores of (1.0, 1.0, 0.96, 0.90) and (1, 0.76, 0.90, 0.83) in four different surveillance data for DeepSORT and OC-SORT, respectively. Intelligent driver assistance systems are becoming increasingly popular in modern passenger vehicles. A crucial component of intelligent vehicles is the ability to detect vulnerable road users (VRUs) for an early and safe response. However, standard imaging sensors perform poorly in conditions of strong illumination contrast, such as approaching a tunnel or at night, due to their dynamic range limitations. In this paper, we focus on the use of high-dynamic-range (HDR) imaging sensors in vehicle perception systems and the subsequent need for tone mapping of the acquired data into a standard 8-bit representation. To our knowledge, no previous studies have evaluated the impact of tone mapping on object detection performance. We investigate the potential for optimizing HDR tone mapping to achieve a natural image appearance while facilitating object detection of state-of-the-art detectors designed for standard dynamic range (SDR) images. Our proposed approach relies on a lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) that tone maps HDR video frames into a standard 8-bit representation. We introduce a novel training approach called detection-informed tone mapping (DI-TM) and evaluate its performance with respect to its effectiveness and robustness in various scene conditions, as well as its performance relative to an existing state-of-the-art tone mapping method. The results show that the proposed DI-TM method achieves the best results in terms of detection performance metrics in challenging dynamic range conditions, while both methods perform well in typical, non-challenging conditions.
