Traffic sign detection is an important part of environment-aware technology and has great potential in the field of intelligent transportation. In recent years, deep learning has been widely used in the field of traffic sign detection, achieving excellent performance. Due to the complex traffic environment, recognizing and detecting traffic signs is still a challenging project. In this paper, a model with global feature extraction capabilities and a multi-branch lightweight detection head is proposed to increase the detection accuracy of small traffic signs. First, a global feature extraction module is proposed to enhance the ability of extracting features and capturing the correlation within the features through self-attention mechanism. Second, a new, lightweight parallel decoupled detection head is proposed to suppress redundant features and separate the output of the regression task from the classification task. Finally, we employ a series of data enhancements to enrich the context of the dataset and improve the robustness of the network. We conducted a large number of experiments to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The accuracy of the proposed algorithm is 86.3%, the recall is 82.1%, the mAP@0.5 is 86.5% and the mAP@0.5:0.95 is 65.6% in TT100K dataset, while the number of frames transmitted per second is stable at 73, which meets the requirement of real-time detection. For facing of the problems caused by the YOLOv4 algorithm's insensitivity to small objects and low detection precision in traffic light detection and recognition, the Improved YOLOv4 algorithm is investigated in the paper using the shallow feature enhancement mechanism and the bounding box uncertainty prediction mechanism. The shallow feature enhancement mechanism is used to extract features from the network and improve the network's ability to locate small objects and color resolution by merging two shallow features at different stages with the high-level semantic features obtained after two rounds of upsampling. Uncertainty is introduced in the bounding box prediction mechanism to improve the reliability of the prediction of the bounding box by modeling the output coordinates of the prediction bounding box and adding the Gaussian model to calculate the uncertainty of the coordinate information. The LISA traffic light data set is used to perform detection and recognition experiments separately. The Improved YOLOv4 algorithm is shown to have a high effectiveness in enhancing the detection and recognition precision of traffic lights. In the detection experiment, the area under the PR curve value of the Improved YOLOv4 algorithm is found to be 97.58%, which represents an increase of 7.09% in comparison to the 90.49% score gained in the Vision for Intelligent Vehicles and Applications Challenge Competition. In the recognition experiment, the mean average precision of the Improved YOLOv4 algorithm is 82.15%, which is 2.86% higher than that of the original YOLOv4 algorithm. In terms of small objects in traffic scenes, general object detection algorithms have low detection accuracy, high model complexity, and slow detection speed. To solve the above problems, an improved algorithm (named YOLO-MXANet) is proposed in this paper. Complete-Intersection over Union (CIoU) is utilized to improve loss function for promoting the positioning accuracy of the small object. In order to reduce the complexity of the model, we present a lightweight yet powerful backbone network (named SA-MobileNeXt) that incorporates channel and spatial attention. Our approach can extract expressive features more effectively by applying the Shuffle Channel and Spatial Attention (SCSA) module into the SandGlass Block (SGBlock) module while increasing the parameters by a small number. In addition, the data enhancement method combining Mosaic and Mixup is employed to improve the robustness of the training model. The Multi-scale Feature Enhancement Fusion (MFEF) network is proposed to fuse the extracted features better. In addition, the SiLU activation function is utilized to optimize the Convolution-Batchnorm-Leaky ReLU (CBL) module and the SGBlock module to accelerate the convergence of the model. The ablation experiments on the KITTI dataset show that each improved method is effective. The improved algorithm reduces the complexity and detection speed of the model while improving the object detection accuracy. Bearings-only target tracking is commonly used in many fields, like air or sea traffic monitoring, tracking a member in a formation, and military applications. When tracking with synchronous passive multisensor systems, each sensor provides a line-of-sight measurement. They are plugged into an iterative least squares algorithm to estimate the unknown target position vector. Instead of using iterative least squares, this paper presents a deep-learning based framework for the bearing-only target tracking process, applicable for any bearings-only target tracking task. As a data-driven method, the proposed deep-learning framework offers several advantages over the traditional iterative least squares. To demonstrate the proposed approach, a scenario of tracking an autonomous underwater vehicle approaching an underwater docking station is considered. There, several passive sensors are mounted near a docking station to enable accurate localization of an approaching autonomous underwater vehicle.
