The non-axisymmetric exciting guided wave can detect the thinning section of the elbow, and the time domain energy value of the signal collected at the outer arch position of the receiving end displays a downward trend as the remaining thickness of the erosion area decreases. To address the difficulty in detecting the erosion degree of the elbow with high accuracy, this paper uses the linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal to excite a non-axisymmetric guided wave that propagates in the 90° elbow and collects signals through four PZT receivers. To predict the erosion degree, the corresponding relationship between the energy value of the four signals after fractional Fourier filtering and the degree of elbow erosion is established through the particle swarm optimization (PSO)–least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) algorithm. The results show that the method proposed has an average accuracy rate of 98.1864%, 94.7167%, 99.119%, and 99.9593% for predicting the erosion degree of four elbow samples, and 94.0039%. and 81.2976% for two new erosion degrees, which are higher than the nonlinear regression model, LSSVM algorithm, and BP neural network algorithm. The failure of insulators may seriously threaten the safe operation of the power system, where the state detection of high-voltage insulators is a must for the normal and safe operation of the power system. Based on the data of insulators in aerial images, this work explored an enhanced particle swarm algorithm to optimize the parameters of the support vector machine. A support vector machine model was therefore established for the identification of the normal and defective states of the insulators. This methodology works with the structure minimization principle of SVM and the characteristics of particle swarm fast optimization. First, the aerial insulator image was segmented as a target by way of the seed region growth based on double-layer cascade morphological improvements, and then, HOG features plus GLCM features were extracted as sample data. Finally, an ameliorated PSO-SVM classifier was designed to realize insulator state identification. Comparisons were made between PSO-SVM and conventional machine learning algorithms, SVM and Random Forest, and an optimization algorithm, Gray Wolf Optimization Support Vector Machine (GWO-SVM), and advanced neural network CNN. The experimental results showed that the performance of the algorithm proposed in this paper touched the top level, where the recognition accuracy rate was 92.11%, the precision rate 90%, the recall rate 94.74%, and the F1-score 92.31%. Dynamic measurement error correction is an effective way to improve sensor precision. Dynamic measurement error prediction is an important part of error correction, and support vector machine (SVM) is often used for predicting the dynamic measurement errors of sensors. Traditionally, the SVM parameters were always set manually, which cannot ensure the model's performance. In this paper, a SVM method based on an improved particle swarm optimization (NAPSO) is proposed to predict the dynamic measurement errors of sensors. Natural selection and simulated annealing are added in the PSO to raise the ability to avoid local optima. To verify the performance of NAPSO-SVM, three types of algorithms are selected to optimize the SVM's parameters: the particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO), the improved PSO optimization algorithm (NAPSO), and the glowworm swarm optimization (GSO). The dynamic measurement error data of two sensors are applied as the test data. The root mean squared error and mean absolute percentage error are employed to evaluate the prediction models' performances. The experimental results show that among the three tested algorithms the NAPSO-SVM method has a better prediction precision and a less prediction errors, and it is an effective method for predicting the dynamic measurement errors of sensors. The problems that the key biomass variables in Pichia pastoris fermentation process are difficult measure in real time; this paper mainly proposes a multi-model soft sensor modeling method based on the piecewise affine (PWA) modeling method, which is optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO) with an improved compression factor (ICF). Firstly, the false nearest neighbor method was used to determine the order of the PWA model. Secondly, the ICF-PSO algorithm was proposed to cooperatively optimize the number of PWA models and the parameters of each local model. Finally, a least squares support vector machine was adopted to determine the scope of action of each local model. Simulation results show that the proposed ICF-PSO-PWA multi-model soft sensor modeling method accurately approximated the nonlinear features of Pichia pastoris fermentation, and the model prediction accuracy is improved by 4.4884% compared with the weighted least squares vector regression model optimized by PSO. Abstract: In the cognitive radio system, spectrum sensing for detecting the presence of primary users in a licensed spectrum is a fundamental problem. Energy detection is the most popular spectrum sensing scheme used to differentiate the case where the primary user's signal is present from the case where there is only noise. In fact, the nature of spectrum sensing can be taken as a binary classification problem, and energy detection is a linear classifier. If the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the received signal is low, and the number of received signal samples for sensing is small, the binary classification problem is linearly inseparable. In this situation the performance of energy detection will decrease seriously. In this paper, a novel approach for obtaining a nonlinear threshold based on support vector machine with particle swarm optimization (PSO-SVM) to replace the linear threshold used in traditional energy detection is proposed.
