Abstract

The article discusses the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry's (ATSDR) task to protect communities from the harmful effects of environmental contaminants. Topics covered include ATSDR's reliance on environmental data by other agencies, factors that are considered before conducting exposure investigation (EI) at a site, and the EI methodology and process. Also noted is ATSDR's evaluation of blood lead and urine arsenic levels in a Montana community with past smelting activities.
