The utilization of cloud computing environments is highly popular for carrying out workflow executions due to its ability to provide clients with immediate access to computing resources. Among the various workflow scheduling problems in the cloud, deadline-constrained workflow scheduling has garnered increasing attention in recent years. This paper introduces a hybrid scheduling algorithm known as Partial Critical Path–Ant Colony Optimization (PCP–ACO), which aims to minimize the execution cost of a workflow while ensuring that it meets the user-defined deadline in cloud environments. PCP–ACO is a list scheduling algorithm that combines the PCP heuristic algorithm with the meta-heuristic ACO to achieve faster convergence. The list scheduling algorithm consists of two phases: task ordering and resource selection. In the case of PCP–ACO, the first step involves calculating a topological sort of the workflow tasks to assign priority to each task. Subsequently, the ACO meta-heuristic is employed to allocate the appropriate resource to each task of the workflow, based on their respective sub-deadlines that are computed using the PCP heuristic. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, several experiments were conducted using five real scientific workflows. The results demonstrate that PCP–ACO outperforms the IC-PCP, L-ACO, and HP-GA algorithms in terms of average execution cost, achieving reductions of 19%, 17.3%, and 21.5%, respectively. Task scheduling in Cloud Computing paradigm poses new challenges for cloud provider as heterogeneous, diversified tasks arrived on to cloud console. To schedule these type of tasks efficiently on to virtual resources in cloud paradigm, an effective scheduler is needed, which precisely maps tasks to virtual machines by considering priorities of both tasks and VMs. Existing scheduling algorithms failed to map tasks precisely to virtual resources due to high dynamic nature in cloud environment which leads to increase of makespan and SLA violations will be increased. In this paper, authors proposed a task-scheduling mechanism, which considers task priorities and VMs. To model this scheduling paradigm we have chosen whale optimization through which our scheduler will take decisions for scheduling tasks precisely onto virtual resources in cloud environment. Entire simulation was carried out on CloudSim. Initially we have chosen random generated workload to run simulation and after that, we have considered a real-time workload named as BigDataBench and ran our simulation. Finally, we compared our proposed work with classical baseline mechanisms. From simulations we observed that proposed whale scheduler improved makespan for PSO, ACO, GA, and W-schedulers by 20.07%, 17.55%, 19.9%, and 6.35%, respectively, and 17.3%, 17.86%, 17.64%, and 5.93%, respectively, for BigDataBench workloads. SLA violations improved over PSO, ACO, GA, and W-Scheduler by 56.76%, 42.17%, 35.29%, and 24.53%, respectively, and 63.42%, 23.33%, 55.51%, and 40.1%, respectively, for BigDataBench workloads. The introduction of cloud computing has brought about significant developments in information technology. Users can benefit from the multitude of cloud technology services only by connecting to the internet. In cloud computing, load balancing is the fundamental issue that has challenged experts in this research area. Load balancing helps increase user satisfaction and enhance systems' productivity through efficient and fair work assignments between computing resources. Besides, maintaining a load balancing among resources would be difficult because the resources are usually distributed in a heterogeneous way. Many load-balancing methods try to solve this problem by the metaheuristics algorithm, and each of them attempted to enhance the operation and efficiency of systems. In this paper, Grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm has been used based on the resource reliability capability to maintain proper load balancing. In this method, first, the GWO algorithm tries to find the unemployed or busy nodes and, after discovering this node, try to calculate each node's threshold and fitness function. Cloud computing allocates the submitted tasks to virtual machine (VM) by dynamic allocation. With the bandwidth and network connectivity getting better, more number of users and organizations are moving to Cloud. All things considered, there are different difficulties that are looked by Cloud service provider. One of the most important challenges is of load balancing. With the number of users gradually increasing, load balancing has become more important. Numerous calculations have been proposed till now for load adjusting, where every one of it centres around the various boundaries. However, these techniques suffer from various issues like - stuck in native optima. None of the calculations has demonstrated to be totally proficient. To deal with the issues identified with existing meta-heuristic procedures, in this paper, a mutation based ant colony optimization load balancing algorithm is proposed. Here we focus on the mutation in Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm for efficiently balancing the load among various data centers to further develop the presentation boundaries like response time and while improving the overall fitness function.
