Abstract The paper drying process has the highest level of energy consumption in the pulp and paper production process. Analysis and optimization of the energy system during the paper drying process is critical for improving the energy efficiency of the entire paper mill. In the existing model for the paper drying process, the solution requires accurate boundary conditions such as the air temperature and humidity of the pocket area and the cylinder surface temperature, which are very difficult to obtain in the papermaking process. This can result in significant deviations between the model solution and the actual production process. This paper focuses on the single-tier dryer cylinder-based paper drying process that has been widely used with high-speed papermaking machines in recent years. A mathematical model is proposed based on real-time data. The verification via industrial production demonstrates that the proposed model is reliable for the paper drying process. Based on the simulation results, two optimization operations have been proposed. The energy consumption decreases from 1.51 t steam/t paper to 1.44 t steam/t paper, 4.6% of the steam and 1.26 × 106 RMB can be saved for a medium-scale paper mill with the annual production capacity of 105 t paper. This paper consists of four parts. It begins by using the authors' generalized Schauder formula, [41] , and the algebraic multiplicity, χ , of Esquinas and López-Gómez [15,14,31] to package and sharpening all existing results in local and global bifurcation theory for Fredholm operators through the recent author's axiomatization of the Fitzpatrick–Pejsachowicz–Rabier degree, [42]. This facilitates reformulating and refining all existing results in a compact and unifying way. In this paper, we provide an extension result for the existence and uniqueness of solutions for a coupled system of fractional Langevin differential equations with antiperiodic boundary conditions. The system involves two different Caputo fractional derivatives defined on different intervals and associated with boundary conditions described by sequential fractional derivatives. As a conclusion for our main result, we deduce the results of H. Fazli, J.J. Nieto, Fractional Langevin equation with anti‐periodic boundary conditions, Chaos Soliton Fract, 114 (2018),332–337 under less restrictive conditions. In this paper we ascertain the singular point-wise behavior of the positive solutions of a semilinear elliptic boundary value problem (1) at the critical value of the parameter, λ , where it begins its metasolution regime. As the weight function m (x) changes sign in Ω, our result is a substantial extension of a previous, very recent, result of Li et al. [8] , where it was imposed the (very strong) condition that m ≥ 0 on a neighborhood of b − 1 ({ 0 }). In this paper, we are simply assuming that m (x 0) > 0 for some x 0 ∈ b − 1 ({ 0 }). • Theorem 1.1 proves that the behavior of the solutions proved by Li et al. The paper is concerned with error identities for a class of parabolic equations. One side of such an identity is a natural measure of the distance between a function in the corresponding energy class and the exact solution of the problem in question. Another side is either directly computable or serves as a source of fully computable error bounds. Particular forms of the identities can be viewed as analogs of the hypercircle identity well known for elliptic problems. It is shown that identities possess an important consistency property. Therefore, the identities and the corresponding error estimates can be used in quantitative analysis of direct and inverse problems associated with parabolic equations. The first part of the paper deals with linear parabolic equations. A class of nonlinear problems is considered in the second part. The interior inverse elastic scattering problem is considered in this paper. The scattering in the cavity is illuminated by an time-harmonic elastic point source at fixed frequency. The boundary of the cavity is assumed to be a small and smooth perturbation of some circle. In this paper, we are interested in the reconstruction of the boundary according to the measured data on a closed curve inside the cavity. In implementation, we split the displacement field into compressional and shear waves by the Helmholtz decomposition. Then we use coordinate transformation, power series expansion based on perturbed parameters and Fourier expansion of corresponding power series coefficients to simplify the original boundary value problem to a successive sequence of one-dimensional boundary value problem. We linearize the inverse problem by eliminating the higher-order terms in the power series expansion; and design a reconstruction algorithm by the explicit relationship between the Fourier coefficients of the boundary function and the total field. In order to obtain better resolution, we also use a nonlinear correction method in the numerical experiments. In this paper, we study the existence of positive solutions for a fourth order boundary value problem coupled to functional perturbed clamped beam boundary conditions. Our main ingredient is the classical fixed point index. In this paper we consider the vanishing viscosity limit of solutions to the initial boundary value problem for the compressible viscoelastic equations in the half space. When the initial deformation gradient does not degenerate and there is no vacuum initially, we establish the uniform regularity estimates of solutions to the initial-boundary value problem for the three-dimensional compressible viscoelastic equations in the Sobolev spaces. Then we justify the vanishing viscosity limit of solutions of the compressible viscoelastic equations based on the uniform regularity estimates and the compactness arguments. Both the no-slip boundary condition and the Navier-slip type boundary condition on velocity are addressed in this paper. On the one hand, for the corresponding vanishing viscosity limit of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with the no-slip boundary condition, it is impossible to derive such uniform energy estimates of solutions due to the appearance of strong boundary layers. Consequently, our results show that the deformation gradient can prevent the formation of strong boundary layers. On the other hand, our results also provide two different kinds of boundary conditions suitable for the well-posedness of the initial-boundary value problem of the elastodynamic equations via the method of vanishing viscosity. The present paper explores a two‐dimensional mixed bio‐convective unsteady viscous hydro‐magnetic Casson Williamson nanofluid flow model with heat and mass transport incorporating motile microorganisms towards a stretchy spinning disc. The flow concept is accomplished by rotating a stretched disc with a time‐varying angular velocity. By applying a magnetic field normal to the axial direction, a magnetic interaction is taken into consideration. The Casson Williamson nanofluid contains nanosized particles suspended with swimming motile microorganisms and the rotation of the disc is exhibited by buoyancy forces, thermophoresis, suction/injection, zero mass flux conditions, variable thermal conductivity, Joule heating and so forth. The obtained flow narrating differential equations of the model are transformed into ordinary differential system. This is accomplished by simulating boundary value problems using the shooting technique using the ‘ND‐Solve’ approach included in the Mathematica software (Mathematica 12). The implications of the engaged parameters such as Williamson fluid parameter, Casson fluid (CF) parameter, thermophoresis parameter, Brownian motion parameter and so forth, on both axial and radial velocities, temperature, concentration of nanoparticles and microorganisms are explained by means of graphical and tabular constructions. This paper's validity has been confirmed and its findings align with those of other previously published papers. Furthermore, it is found that both the axial and radial velocity profiles are seen to be diminishing functions of the CF parameter. The identified observation may have theoretical implications for a number of engineering procedures, solar energy systems, biofuel cells and extrusion system improvement. This paper introduces a novel approach for the construction of bulk–surface splitting schemes for semilinear parabolic partial differential equations with dynamic boundary conditions. The proposed construction is based on a reformulation of the system as a partial differential–algebraic equation and the inclusion of certain delay terms for the decoupling. To obtain a fully discrete scheme, the splitting approach is combined with finite elements in space and a backward differentiation formula in time. Within this paper, we focus on the second-order case, resulting in a |$3$| -step scheme. We prove second-order convergence under the assumption of a weak CFL-type condition and confirm the theoretical findings by numerical experiments. In studying boundary value problems and coupled systems of fractional order in (1 , 2 ] , involving Hilfer fractional derivative operators, a zero initial condition is necessary. The consequence of this fact is that boundary value problems and coupled systems of fractional order with non-zero initial conditions cannot be studied. For example, such boundary value problems and coupled systems of fractional order are those including separated, non-separated, or periodic boundary conditions. In this paper, we propose a method for studying a coupled system of fractional order in (1 , 2 ] , involving fractional derivative operators of Hilfer and Caputo with non-separated boundary conditions. More precisely, a sequential coupled system of fractional differential equations including Hilfer and Caputo fractional derivative operators and non-separated boundary conditions is studied in the present paper. As explained in the concluding section, the opposite combination of Caputo and Hilfer fractional derivative operators requires zero initial conditions. By using Banach's fixed point theorem, the uniqueness of the solution is established, while by applying the Leray–Schauder alternative, the existence of solution is obtained. In this paper, we survey selected software packages for the numerical solution of boundary value ODEs (BVODEs), time-dependent PDEs in one spatial dimension (1DPDEs), and initial value ODEs (IVODEs). A unifying theme of this paper is our focus on software packages for these problem classes that compute error-controlled, continuous numerical solutions. A continuous numerical solution can be accessed by the user at any point in the domain. We focus on error-control software; this means that the software adapts the computation until it obtains a continuous approximate solution with a corresponding error estimate that satisfies the user tolerance. The second section of the paper will provide an overview of recent work on the development of COLNEWSC, an updated version of the widely used collocation BVODE solver, COLNEW, that returns an error-controlled continuous approximate solution based on the use of a superconvergent interpolant to the underlying collocation solution. The third section of the paper gives a brief review of recent work on the development of a new 1DPDE solver, BACOLIKR, that provides time- and space-dependent event detection for an error-controlled continuous numerical solution. This paper introduces a topology optimization approach based on the virtual element method (VEM), incorporating uncertainties. The objective of this optimization process is to design an optimal material layout for problems governed by linear elasticity equations to minimize the volume while satisfying probabilistic compliance constraints. The VEM is used to solve the boundary value problem in reliability-based topology optimization (RBTO). In the comparison between the VEM and the standard finite element method (FEM), a key difference emerges in the absence of explicitly defined shape functions tied to discrete degrees of freedom in VEM. Unlike FEM, VEM directly constructs the discrete bilinear form and load linear form without the need for computing shape function derivatives within the elements. This flexibility accommodates meshes with intricate geometries and arbitrarily shaped elements. The paper discusses the computational efficiency of VEM RBTO and explores the geometric impact of tessellations on converged topologies, demonstrating reduced susceptibility to checkerboard patterns compared to conventional quadrilateral elements. Additionally, the single-loop approach is examined, showcasing comparable accuracy to the first-order/second-order reliability methods (FORM/SORM) of RBTO using VEM. Boundary value problems (BVPs) in ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with singularities arise in numerous mathematical models describing real-life phenomena in natural sciences and engineering. This motivates vivid research activities aiming to characterize the analytical properties of singular problems, to investigate convergence of the standard numerical methods when they are applied to simulate differential equation with singularities, and to provide software for their efficient numerical treatment. There are two well-known, high order numerical methods which we focus on in this paper, the finite difference schemes and the collocation methods. Those methods proved to be dependable and highly accurate in the context of regular differential equations, so the question arises how do they preform for singular problems. While, there is a strong evidence for the collocation schemes to be a robust method to solve singular systems in a stable and efficient way, finite difference schemes are still considered less suitable for this problem class. In this paper, we shall compare the performance of the code HOFiD_bvp based on the high order finite difference schemes and bvpsuite2.0 based on polynomial collocation, when the codes are applied to singular problems in ODEs. We are fully aware of the difficulties in a code comparison, so in this paper, we will try to only diagnose the potential improvements, we could address in the next update of the codes. The bioconvective flows are truly connected to real-life and engineering development. So, the models of biomicrosystems and biocells are considered for the technical analysis in this paper. Our intention for the current analysis was to theoretically examine electrical conduction flow into mass and heat transfer by an extensive gyrotactic microorganism into an inclined magnetic field toward a vertical stretching sheet with nonlinear solar radiation with different solar thermal appliances. The effect on velocity slip and Joule heating was again studied in detail. This classical problem on Navier Stokes equations to the current imitation was decreased to ordinary differential equations by applying the comparison method. The numerical solutions were changed by boundary value problem (BVP) to clarify the subject into finite difference numerical scheme by applying MATLAB. The important results show that the density of motile microorganisms reduces to the bioconvection Lewis number and Peclet number, although reverse performance was noticed for the bioconvection Rayleigh number. Further, solar radiation fosters heat transport. This paper develops the mathematical apparatus of studying control problems for the stationary model of magnetic hydrodynamics of viscous heat-conducting fluid in the Boussinesq approximation. These problems are formulated as problems of conditional minimization of special cost functionals by weak solutions of the original boundary value problem. The model under consideration consists of the Navier–Stokes equations, the Maxwell equations without displacement currents, the generalized Ohm's law for a moving medium and the convection-diffusion equation for temperature. These relations are nonlinearly connected via the Lorentz force, buoyancy force in the Boussinesq approximation and convective heat transfer. Results concerning the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the original boundary value problem and of its generalized linear analog are presented. The global solvability of the control problem under study is proved and the optimality system is derived. Sufficient conditions on the data are established which ensure local uniqueness and stability of solutions of the control problems under study with respect to small perturbations of the cost functional to be minimized and one of the given functions. In this paper, Caputo boundary value problems of order 3 < ζ ≤ 4 are investigated on the interval [0, 1]. By Guo-Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem, some criteria of existence and multiplicity of positive and decreasing solutions are established. The main novelty of the paper lies in its capability to achieve positive solutions while the corresponding Green’s function changes sign. This paper discusses the existence of solutions to fourth order nonlinear boundary value problem involving systems of differential equations and two point boundary conditions. In this paper, we have studied the behaviour of two symmetric mode-III collinear cracks in a functionally graded material (FGM). The fundamental goal of this paper is to provide insight on the interaction of two cracks in FGMs with the strain gradient effect. To assess the influence of gradient elasticity, we have considered two key parameters ℓ and ℓ ′ , which describe the size scale effect caused by the underlying microstructure and are related to volumetric and surface strain energy, respectively. The crack boundary value problem have been solved by the approach involving Fourier transforms and the innovative hyper-singular integro-differential equation method, where the integral equation contains the two terms in integrals for the both cracks. A system of equations has been constructed by employing the Chebyshev polynomial expansion and then by choosing the suitable collocation points the system of equation have been solved. Our investigation involves the determination of stress intensity factors at both crack tips. These factors are vital for understanding the material's fracture behavior and structural integrity. Furthermore, we explore the variations in the displacement profile when the distance between the cracks is reduced to close proximity. Ordinary and partial differential equations with operators containing the p -Laplace operator, the so called ϕ -Laplace operator, operators with variable exponents and the double phase operators have been studied thoroughly for at least the last 20 years and the amount of papers dealing with these subjects is huge. In this paper we deal with the problem of the existence of periodic solutions to some system of ODE's involving a fairly general operator generalizing in this form corresponding results for the areas of research just mentioned. In our results neither the function generating the differential operator nor the right hand side function in the boundary value problem considered are necessarily equal to the gradient of a function. Our main result is a here is a continuation theorem based on the Leray-Schauder degree theory which allows us to obtain the existence of solutions for the boundary value problem considered. The study of nonlinear problems related to heat transfer in a substance is of great practical important. Earlier, this paper's authors proposed an effective algorithm for determining the volumetric heat capacity and thermal conductivity of a substance based on experimental observations of the dynamics of the temperature field in the object. In this paper, the problem of simultaneous identification of temperature-dependent volumetric heat capacity and thermal conductivity of the substance under study from the heat flux at the boundary of the domain is investigated. The consideration is based on the first (Dirichlet) boundary value problem for a one-dimensional unsteady heat equation. The coefficient inverse problem under consideration is reduced to a variational problem, which is solved by gradient methods based on the application of fast automatic differentiation. In this paper, we develop a hypercomplex operator calculus to treat fully analytically boundary value problems for the homogeneous and inhomogeneous fractional Helmholtz equation where fractional derivatives in the sense of Caputo and Riemann–Liouville are applied. Our method extends the recently proposed fractional reduced differential transform method (FRDTM) by using fractional derivatives in all directions. For the special separable case in three dimensions, we obtain completely explicit representations for the fundamental solution. This allows us to interpret and to understand the appearance of spatial steady‐state solutions or spatial blow‐ups of the fractional Helmholtz equation in a better way. More precisely, we were able to present explicit conditions for the parameters in the representation formulas of the fundamental solutions under which we obtain bounded or spatial decreasing steady‐solutions and when spatial blow‐ups occur. We also illustrate this with some representative numerical examples. Furthermore, we show that it is possible to recover the recently studied cases as well as the classical cases as particular limit cases within our more general setting. Using the hypercomplex operator approach also allows us to factorize the fractional Helmholtz operator and obtain some interesting duality relations between left and right derivatives, Caputo and Riemann–Liouville derivatives, and eigensolutions of antipodal eigenvalues in terms of a generalized Borel–Pompeiu formula. This paper is devoted to study the rotational periodic boundary value problem for a fractional‐order nonlinear differential equation. Applying topology‐degree theory and the Leray‐Schauder fixed‐point theorem, we prove the existence and uniqueness of solution for the fractional‐order differential system. In this paper, we study boundary value problem of system of generalized Sturm–Liouville and Langevin Hadamard fractional differential equations. In this paper, we consider a Bresse‐Timoshenko‐type system with distributed delay term. Under suitable assumptions, we establish the global well‐posedness of the initial and boundary value problem by using the Faedo‐Galerkin approximations and some energy estimates. By using the energy method, we show two exponential stability results for the system with delay in vertical displacement and in angular rotation, respectively. The numerical solution of a class of second-order singularly perturbed three-point boundary value problems (BVPs) in 1D is achieved using a uniformly convergent, stable, and efficient difference method on a piecewise-uniform mesh. The presence of a boundary layer(s) on one (or both) of the interval's endpoints is caused by the presence of the tiny parameter in the highest order derivative. As the perturbation parameter approaches 0, traditional numerical techniques on the uniform mesh become insufficient, resulting in poor accuracy and large blows without the use of an excessive number of points. Specially customised techniques, such as fitted operator methods or methods linked to adapted or fitted meshes that solve essential characteristics such as boundary and/or inner layers, are necessary to overcome this drawback. We developed a fitted-mesh technique in this paper that works for all perturbation parameter values. The monotone hybrid technique, which includes midway upwinding in the outer area and centre differencing in the layer region on a fitted-mesh condensing in the border layer region, is the basis for our difference scheme. In a discrete L ∞ norm, uniform error estimates are constructed, and the technique is demonstrated to be parameter-uniform convergent of order two (up to a logarithmic factor). To show the effectiveness of the recommended technique and to corroborate the theoretical findings, a numerical example is presented. In this paper, a (p , q) -fractional nonlinear difference equation of different orders is considered and discussed. With the help of (p , q) -calculus for integrals and derivatives properties, we convert the main integral boundary value problem (IBVP) to an equivalent solution in the form of an integral equation, we use the upper–lower solution technique to prove the existence of positive solutions. In this paper, we consider a nonlinear boundary-value problem proposed as the simplest model for describing oscillations in a gas flow. We analyze the stability of the trivial (zero) equilibrium state and find a critical value of the speed of the incoming gas flow. Exact solutions of the problem are found in the form of time-periodic functions and their stability is examined. In this paper, we discuss the existence of multiplicity of positive solutions to a new generalized Riemann–Liouville type fractional Fisher‐like equation on a semi‐infinite interval equipped with nonlocal multipoint boundary conditions involving Riemann–Liouville fractional derivative and integral operators. The existence of at least two positive solutions for the given problem is established by using the concept of complete continuity and iterative positive solutions. We show the existence of at least three positive solutions to the problem at hand by applying the generalized Leggett–Williams fixed‐point theorem due to Bai and Ge [Z. Bai, B. The paper is devoted to the study of the smoothness of generalized solutions of the first boundary-value problem for a strongly elliptic functional differential equation containing orthotropic contraction transformations of the arguments of the unknown function in the leading part. The problem is considered in a disc, the coefficients of the equation are constant. Orthotropic contraction is understood as different contraction in different variables. Conditions for the conservation of smoothness on the boundaries of neighboring subdomains formed by the action of the contraction transformation group onto the disc are found in explicit form for any right-hand side from the Lebesgue space. AbstractIn this paper, we investigate the flow characteristics of an unsteady quasistatic Maxwell viscoelastic fluid of White-Metzner type within a three-dimensional bounded domain. Our objective is to establish the well-posedness of the resulting partial differential equations initial boundary value problem, both locally and globally in time, under the condition of small initial data. To demonstrate the existence of a solution, we employ an iterative method that transforms our problem into a sequence of linear subproblems. In this paper, we study a free‐boundary problem modeling the growth of spherically symmetric tumors with angiogenesis and a necrotic core, where the Robin boundary condition is imposed for the nutrient concentration. The existence of a global solution is established by first reducing the free‐boundary problem into an equivalent initial boundary value problem for a nonlinear strongly singular parabolic equation on a fixed domain, then proving that an approximation problem admits a unique solution by the Schauder fixed point theorem combined with the Lp$$ {L}&#x0005E;p $$ estimates for parabolic equations, and finally taking the limit. This paper presents a spatiotemporal reaction–diffusion model for epidemics to predict how the infection spreads in a given space. The model is based on a system of partial differential equations with the Neumann boundary conditions. First, we study the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the model using the semigroup theory and demonstrate the boundedness of solutions. Further, the proposed model's basic reproduction number is calculated using the eigenvalue problem. Moreover, the dynamic behavior of the disease‐free steady states of the model for R0<1$$ {\mathcal{R}}_0<1 $$ is investigated. The uniform persistence of the model is also discussed. In this paper we approach the linear mixed problem with initial and boundary values for a Cosserat body which is elastic and has pores. We coupled the equations characterizing the pores evolution with basic equations that describing the elastic deformations of the Cosserat body. The coupling is done by means of predetermined coefficients. To prove the continuous dependence of the solutions, we introduce an adequate measure which is useful in obtaining of some estimations with respect to the gradient of elastic deformations and regarding the gradient of a specific the application, introduced to characterize the behavior of the pores. This paper studies a maximal L q -regularity property for nonlinear elliptic equations of second order with a zeroth order term and gradient nonlinearities having superlinear and subquadratic growth, complemented with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The approach is based on the combination of linear elliptic regularity theory and interpolation inequalities, so that the analysis of the maximal regularity estimates boils down to determine lower order integral bounds. The latter are achieved via a L p duality method, which exploits the regularity properties of solutions to stationary Fokker–Planck equations. For the latter problems, we discuss both global and local estimates.
