Abstract: Structurally well‐defined graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) have attracted great interest because of their unique optical, electronic, and magnetic properties. However, strong π–π interactions within GNRs result in poor liquid‐phase dispersibility, which impedes further investigation of these materials in numerous research areas, including supramolecular self‐assembly. Structurally defined GNRs were synthesized by a bottom‐up strategy, involving grafting of hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) chains of different lengths (GNR‐PEO). PEO grafting of 42–51 % percent produces GNR‐PEO materials with excellent dispersibility in water with high GNR concentrations of up to 0.5 mg mL−1. The “rod–coil” brush‐like architecture of GNR‐PEO resulted in 1D hierarchical self‐assembly behavior in the aqueous phase, leading to the formation of ultralong nanobelts, or spring‐like helices, with tunable mean diameters and pitches. In aqueous dispersions the superstructures absorbed in the near‐infrared range, which enabled highly efficient conversion of photon energy into thermal energy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using an efficient synthetic strategy,a novel class of 1,2-diazine-embeddedperylenes, namely 1,2,7,8-tetraazaperylene derivatives, have beensuccessfully synthesized. Using a concise synthetic strategy, a series of novel ladder-type BN-embedded heteroacenes were successfully synthesized. Their molecular skeletons render the versatile modification which is desirable for achieving unique physical properties. A series of novel organic conjugated molecules ( 5a-5d) comprising 2,3-benzopyridiazine as electron-withdrawing core and thiophene derivatives as electron-donating arms have been synthesized successfully in good yields. The ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) absorption spectra and fluorescence spectra of 5a-5d revealed that the optical properties are strongly influenced by the interactions between nitrogen and sulfur atoms in the conjugated backbone, as well as the position of the alkyl chains in the thiophene rings. The experimental results and theoretical calculation data clearly indicated that the band gap and the energy levels of LUMO and HOMO could be fine-tuned by the position of alkyl chains in the thiophene rings. Abstract: The development of metal-free catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is one of the most challenging tasks in fuel cells. Heteroatom doped graphenes have been recognized as the promising candidate. In this work, we have developed a one-pot hydrothermal approach towards three-dimensional nitrogen and sulfur co-doped graphene frameworks (N/S-GFs) employing graphene oxide and ammonium thiocyanate as the precursors. Five coordination complexes [Cd(hbmb)(tbi)] n (1), [Cd(hbmb)(adi)] n (2), [Zn(hbmb)0.5(atda)] n (3), {[Zn2(hbmb)(suc)1.5(OH)]·2H2O} n (4), and {[Zn2(hbmb) (fum)1.5(OH)]·2H2O} n (5) (H2tbi=5-tert-butylisophthalic acid, H2adi=adipic acid, H2atda=1,3-adamantanediacetic acid, H2suc=succinic acid, H2fum=fumaric acid, hbmb=1,1′-(1,6-hexane)bis-(2-methylbenzimidazole)) have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. Complex 1 is an undulated 2D structure with (63)2 topology, containing left- and right-handed helical chains. Complex 2 possesses a puckered two-dimensional (2D) network with 44·62 topologies symbol. Complex 3 exhibits a 2D (4, 4) parallelogram network and also owns left- and right-handed helical chains. Complexes 4 and 5 display 2D rectangular grids and can be simplified as a four-connected 44·62 topological network.
