Pro domo. This paper is likely to be unique through tentatively defining a psychological profile of the patients with slow transit constipation. If such a psychological profile is proved to exist and to predispose to constipation, improving it through psychological interventions could lead to an improved colonic transit. Objective. Defining a psychological profile of the patients complaining of slow intestinal transit, as few if any references upon this subject are to be found in literature. Method. The subjects have been patients with various internal disorders (including constipation). An approximately one-hour talk was conducted with each of them in order to identify their psychological features (PFs) (among 143 possible ones). Thereafter we examined each PF in turn, with the aim of finding out if and to what degree is it associated with any among the various areas of pathology. Results. PFs having an absolutely statistically significant association with constipation are: „attached to her/ his habitual pleasures, comfort, routine‟, „desires safety/security", „conservative, dogmatic, rigid‟, „tendency to develop attachments‟. PFs having a relatively statistically significant association with constipation are: „dislikes dirt/uncleanness‟, „fear of disease‟, „obstinate, strong-willed, maintaining/supporting his opinion and disliking contradiction‟, „preoccupied with material/ financial security‟. Conclusions. A possible psychological profile of patients complaining of delayed stools may centre around fixity and inertia, as expressing the patient's preference for a stable, safe, comfortable, risk-free situation, lacking any sort of challenges (pecuniary, health-related or otherwise).
