This article explores the role of statistical modeling in the production of sound epidemiological objects in a context in which data are perceived as fragile and precarious. It analyzes the use of Markov chain modeling in the evaluation of cost-effectiveness of HPV vaccines in Colombia. Markov chain modeling has an important role in producing a "national" cohort of women in which it is possible to test the "virtual" effectiveness of HPV vaccines, transforming information that comes from international literature into national and local data. This modeling device plays a key role in the datafication of cervical cancer and HPV vaccination. The datafication of disease and populations allows connecting the calculative domains of epidemiology and economic valuation. Drawing on studies on data production, statistics and modeling I examine the role of statistics and data dynamics in the making of HPV vaccination as a public health matter. This paper offers a juxtaposition of two analytical domains entangled by the Markov chain. On the one hand, it presents an analysis of a set of technoscientific practices showing where and how a statistical enumerated entity that purports to represent cervical cancer becomes a socio-politically agential entity in the institutional life of the State. On the other, the paper discusses how social difference is left out the model. The exclusion of social difference from data production is coherent with the socio-political workings of Colombian healthcare and vaccination policy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

THEORY of knowledge , *HUMANISTS , *LIVING alone , *DEONTOLOGICAL ethics , *ETHICS , *POSTHUMANISM , *HUMANISM - Abstract
This paper aims to show the opposition between the Humanist cultural tradition and the main theses currently defended by Posthumanism. The structure of the paper is built upon the corresponding answers provided by both trends to the three main philosophical questions: How do we know reality? What are the world and life, and how are they explained? What is the best way to live one’s life? Gnoseology (or theory of knowledge), Ontology, and Deontology or Ethics have respectively tried to provide answers for such questions. Certain ambiguities of the Posthumanist dehumanizing project are also addressed. The paper concludes with an exposition of the arguments that justify the continuity of Humanist values, principles, and rights, updated according to the demands of our time. ALGORITHMS , *DIALECTS , *SPEED - Abstract
This paper sets forth an algorithm which can recognize any type of the Spanish voseo conjugations, based on a parametric analysis of its morphological typology. The algorithm is built as a sequence of a minimum of two and a maximum of five operations, or steps. Both the linear arrangement of the steps and the structure of the queries are based on an implicit theory of the relative markedness or complexity of each variant and the parametric analysis of the typology. Thus, assessing the speed and efficiency of the algorithm becomes an indirect measure of the underlying analysis. The algorithm also invites to speculate about how the variable data relates to the way it is acquired or learned. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents an exploratory study of image banks, specifically Getty Images and Shutterstock, analyzing whether their tagging processes reveal algorithmic forms of reproducing colonial mentalities about black women. From Patricia Hill Collins' concept of "controlling images," Jezebel, Mammy, and Sapphire images were examined, understanding that these stereotypes of black female subjectivity underscore narratives of subordination, exploitation, and animalization in the service of coloniality. While the results show specificities, primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we found that algorithmic coloniality becomes apparent in these banks, which frequently tag the images of black women under colonial representation standards of labor, sexuality, and aggressiveness. In this research paper, we examine forms of work organization implemented in Mercado Libre based on interviews with its workers in Argentina. We analyze the historical course of human resources management until the incursion of the pandemic. As part of the findings, we can point out that the evolution of work management and well-being shows ruptures and continuities, where emotions become increasingly relevant in human resources policies. Inspired by positive psychology in the 90s, such policies focused on the resilient individual. This figure has become more relevant since COVID-19, when the management of intimacy and emotions is mediated by the use of technologies supported by big data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this theoretical articulation based on bibliographic research, the culture of intolerance, driven by the political context of hyperneoliberalism, is linked to the imaginary present on algorithmic platforms, where a fundamental mode of governance is practiced today. While not ignoring past manifestations of intolerance on the Internet, this paper intends to demonstrate how these platforms are environments even more favorable for such manifestations, given the peculiarities of their technology and their business model. To this end, certain aspects of their operation, classified as arena of attention, uneven omnimediation, calibrated exposure and flexible veridiction, are related to dispositions that Lacan associates with the imaginary and aggressiveness - respectively, narcissism, narcissistic identification with leaders, segregation and paranoia. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between data practice and algorithmic actions on digital platforms. For this purpose, we do a descriptive analysis of Instagram documents that are addressed to its users, identifying what suggests action and practical consequence of digital materialities in terms of production, sharing and collection. Through them we identify the centrality of experience in this kind of informational construct developed in relation to datafication processes - which we call algorithmic experience. From a pragmatist and neomaterialist perspective, we suggest following this experience to understand the practical differences produced in the use of digital platforms and identifying relevant interactions in situated practices. This paper discusses the challenges encountered by counter-hegemonic social movements and activists working on digital platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, used as tools for mobilizing and disseminating information. To achieve this goal we describe how digital platforms colonize lifeworld by collecting data based on user interactions and how it affects activists who build solidarity networks. We then discuss the performance of counter-hegemonic movements and their opponents and present the concept of coded activism. To conclude our argument, we present proposals for the action of social movements in an Internet dominated by monopolistic corporations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With billons of users, social media platforms (e.g. Facebook) are dominant players in a highly-concentrated online news market. They have great power over the distribution of information to their users, and over the organizations and individuals that produce it. Social media platforms use algorithms to perform functions traditionally belonging to news editors: deciding on the importance of news items and how they are disseminated. However, they do not acknowledge the role they play in informing the public as traditional news media always have and tend to ignore that they also act as publishers of news and the responsibilities associated with that role. This paper argues that it is essential for social media platforms to understand and embrace their role as both news publishers and distributors and highlights the essential responsibilities they must undertake so they can satisfy the information needs of their audiences and protect the public's right to information. Algorithms have become the focus of discussions on technology whether involving the role of social networks in our everyday life or the promise of a generalized coding of various occupations. This paper intends to unravel the importance of algorithms for capitalism from the advent of the Third Industrial Revolution in three functions: (1) to expand the everyday life colonization by the market and by the State, a task formerly exercised only by the cultural industry, (2) increase the limits of the subsumption of labor by capital, and (3) improving existing forms of precarious work. Finally, we present possible solutions for working class organization of the working in the contemporary scenario of precariousness and withdrawal of labor rights. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Risk analyses applied to radiotherapy treatments have become an undeniable necessity, considering the dangers generated by the combination of using powerful radiation fields on patients and the occurrence of human errors and equipment failures during these treatments. The technique par excellence to execute these analyses has been the risk matrix. This paper presents the development of a new algorithm to execute the task with wide graphic and analytic potentialities, thus transforming it into a very useful option for risk monitoring and the optimization of quality assurance. The system SECURE-MR, which is the basic software of this algorithm, has been successfully used in risk analysis regarding different kinds of radiotherapies. Compared to previous methods, It offers new possibilities of analysis considering risk controlling factors as the robustness of reducers of initiators frequency and its consequences. Their analytic capacities and graphs allow novel developments to classify risk contributing factors, to represent information processes as well as accidental sequences. The paper shows the application of the proposed system to a generic process of radiotherapy treatment using a lineal accelerator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents an image synthesis algorithm for rendering views of a real scene taken with a virtual camera which is located between two real cameras. Specifically, this paper presents how, under certain conditions, a pair of views is enough to obtain a full set of possible views by following the line that joins their optical centers (baseline) without reconstructing explicit 3D models. Test results show the viability of the proposed algorithm for simple scenes (an object with a simple geometry, which is opaque, and does not present any occlusions). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we present a modification of the repetitive random search algorithm. In our proposal, we change the fixed parameters which values are set by the user, by deterministic values following a chaotic map. The proposed algorithm is used to optimize four well known test functions for 10, 20 and 30 dimensions. For all cases, our proposal converges to better points that the optimal points obtained using the traditional version with fixed values in the parameters. The obtained results encourage us to continue the development and testing of the proposal algorithm with a major suite of test functions, and to compare it with other well established heuristic algorithms. This paper presents an extension of Gauthier's algorithm, which solves the problem of searching for the multivariable minimal realization starting from square transference matrices. Previously, the algorithm incorporates the coprime fractions developed with Silvester matrices and qr factorization. Since the coprime fractions have a special relation with matrices in polynomial fraction, they show their differences by analyzing them independently. The general features are set out, and the developed functions named, in order to emphasize the different search paths and their representation in state space (neither of which are not unique) for the coprime fraction. For demonstration we used a multivariable dynamic system, where the efficiency and limitations of the developed algorithm are checked based on the functions performed with the Matlab® Control Toolbox. RELATIONAL databases , *DATABASES , *COMPUTER software , *ALGORITHMS , *MATHEMATICAL mappings - Abstract
The life cycle sofware duration depends essentially on the efective effort used for its implementation and moreover for its maintenance. The underlooking on Database Reverse Engineering (DBRE) is an increasing fact-day, due to the opportunities provided by news paradigms of the software development industry. Database Reverse Engineering, as the aim, is an imperfect process driven by imperfect knowledge, so that many techniques and tools are based on some assumptions as the precondition of the purpose. Consequently, the result is just an effective and efficient method for some identified databases systems (DS). Inside the relational database (RDB), the semantic structure reconstruction is an actual task-investigation. Some recent algorithms were proposed, which don't take any a-priori knowledge, and involve mapping techniques preserving this semantic information. This paper intends to give a classification of some relational DBRE occurred during lasts years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper formulates an interpretation of computability from the perspective of realist conceptualism. The key notion within this theory is that of a computable concept, where a concept is a cognitive capacity of a certain sort. Differences and connections between the conceptualist interpretation and the classical one, customarily referred to as the theory of effective computability, for which the key concept is that of an algorithm, are shown in the text. Consequences of the idea that the content of computable concepts can be expressed in algorithms are explored. An appendix briefly outlines how the present conceptualist approach differs from two other non-classical interpretations of computability, the intuitionist and the representationist.
