The volume begins with Jonathan Ben-Dov's article on the continuity between the Bible and the Dead Sea Scrolls, and this is an appropriate introductory chapter to the entire volume. In the last paper of the volume, Werman adds more complexity to the divergent apocalyptic worldviews found in the Qumran writings by analyzing the apocalyptic worldviews of Jubilees. This volume is an excellent collection of papers touching on various religious worldviews reflected in the Dead Sea Scrolls, especially as they show both the affinity and dissimilarity between the biblical and post-biblical Jewish and Christian traditions. This article presents the proceedings of the 57th annual conference of the American Association for Public Opinion Research held at Saint Pete Beach, Florida from May 16-19, 2002. The conference theme, Strengthening Our Community, sought to emphasize the great importance and value of the association as a community and the special needs and benefits of coming together in 2001, to reaffirm, nurture and strengthen that community while also meeting jointly with colleagues from nations throughout the world. The implications of the terrorist attacks and the war on terrorism were examined from several different perspectives, including public response both within and outside the U.S., the psychological impact on citizens, attitudes toward civil liberties and immigration and foreign policy. Paper sessions and discussions on key methodological issues included several on questionnaire development, strategies for measurement and reduction of nonresponse and nonresponse bias across all surveys. At the Saturday night awards banquet, the Student Paper Award in Memory of Seymour Sudman was presented to David Dutwin of the Annenberg School for Communication. While registration was down a bit from the record of 801 established in Montreal, Quebec, the steady growth of conference attendance in recent years has been mixed blessing.

The article focuses on the book "Proceedings of the Seventh International Symposium on Transportation and Traffic Theory," edited by T. Sasaki and T. Yamanka. As with previous symposia, abstracts were screened in an attempt to ensure that papers were relevant to the symposium. Based on these, full manuscripts were invited to be referred, with about one-third of the manuscripts being published and presented. Nevertheless the quality of the papers varies considerably. In attempting to reflect current interests while at the same time providing a forum for theoretical research, the theme of the symposia has evolved from Traffic Flow Theory, emphasizing Car Following and Queueing, to encompass a more general areas which includes theory related to all transportation modes. The papers of the last three symposia have essentially fallen into the following groupings, flow theory, network theory, public transportation, travel behavior. Flow Theory still has the greatest representation, probably due to some inertia of interest and the fact that alternative fora for it do not exist. However, it is gradually expanding to encompass Signal Control and in turn Traffic Management, as one attempts to cope with the urban traffic problems with increased use of traffic signals and computers.

This article presents information on congresses and conventions organized by "British Association for the Advancement of Science." The 1970 meeting is to be held in Durham from 2nd September to 9th September. Part of the program of Section N has been reserved for the presentation of a limited number of papers announcing the findings of recent investigations. The object of the fellowships is to enable social scientists to encounter new ideas and to learn new techniques by spending some time at another university or research institute in this country or abroad. A particular hope is that the scheme will encourage visits between Great Britain and other European countries. The awards will be for a minimum of three months and a maximum of twelve, and may be spread over more than one visit to the same institution. They will normally consist of a grant for travel and maintenance for the fellow himself only, but the Foundation may take account of individuals' particular needs in determining the amount to be awarded. The fellowships are open to social scientists on the staff of universities and research institutes in Great Britain who have already had experience of research. The subjects covered by the scheme include economics, political science, social administration, social anthropology, social psychology and sociology.
