Abstract

The article reports that Miguel Etchecolatz, a retired police commissioner, has been sentenced to life in prison for murder, torture and kidnapping during Argentina's "dirty war." It is one of the first sentences since amnesty laws were scrapped in 2005. Etchecolatz ran clandestine detention centers as provincial police commissioner for Buenos Aires during the dictatorship from 1976 to 1983.
