Abstract
Editorial. Comments on British botanist, television personality and environmentalist, David Bellamy's criticism to academic values set out by the 1993 White Paper on science. Support for continued existence of the Edinburgh University's Centre for Human Ecology; Defense of science's contemplative role.
The article presents a description of a typical day in the life of University of Edinburgh Associate Professor of Astronomy Annette Ferguson. Elements of Ferguson's day include spending time at home responding to e-mails and browsing astrophysics preprints; taking time for administrative tasks such as issues related to research grants, the writing of committee work reports, and conducting peer review of proposals or papers; and preparing for lecturing in a college course titled "Astrophysics."
