What will be the future of the archives of popular writing? Will they begin to focus on collecting new types of personal testimonies? This paper presents an exploratory study aimed at understanding whether the use of digital platforms favours the performance of uses and educational activities comparable to those developed through the use of the writings of ordinary people. Specifically, attention has been paid to Instagram and its use in the digital age in order to verify whether content published in the form of stories and/or posts could be recognised as possible didactic tools aimed at 'educating' about historical knowledge. In a very recently presented paper, Turky and Abdullah [5] proposed a novel multi-population harmony search with external archive (MHSA-ExtArchive) for dynamic optimization problems. In the experimental results, the authors claimed that their approach could outperform several state-of-the-art algorithms. They also showed the superiority of their method by means of numerical experiments on Moving Peaks Benchmark (MPB). Despite the interesting idea of applying multi-population scheme on harmony search and using a new type of external archive for dealing with dynamic problems, we believe that there are two very important shortcomings in the result analysis, which we point out in this short note. Solving nonlinear equation systems (NESs) is one of the most important tasks in numerical computing. The NESs usually have multiple roots, and quickly locating their roots in a single algorithm run with a limited number of iterations has always been the algorithm improvement direction. In order to further enhance the efficiency of the existing methods, a density clustering-based differential evolution algorithm (DCDE) for the NESs problem solving is proposed in this paper. Firstly, density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) is used to divide the population into clusters and noises, which provides a better direction for population evolution. Secondly, a cluster evaluation factor is proposed, which not only divides the clusters into excellent clusters and non-excellent clusters, but also prevents the migration of excellent clusters and maintain the diversity of populations. Then, a migration strategy and individual generation mechanism are proposed to guide non-excellent clusters to migrate to promising regions. Finally, combined with an archive technique, the individuals which satisfy the solution requirements are archived and randomly initialized to further improve population diversity. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, comparative experimental results of the propsoed DCDE with other state-of-the-art algorithms for thirty NESs problems solving show that the proposed DCDE is the most effective algorithm to locate more roots in a single run. Differential Evolution (DE) is an effective global optimization algorithm, and many existing adaptive variants of it have been proposed to solve engineering problems. It is well known that population feature information that refers to some mathematical statistic feature information of all individuals in the dimension of decision space, and it can reflect the features of the problem to be solved. However, the population feature information has not been fully utilized by DE's adaptive variants. As a result, those adaptive variants do not obtain promising performance in optimizing nonlinear, non-differentiable and non-separable multi-modal problems. To make adequate extraction and effective use of population feature information, we propose an adaptive differential evolution framework based on population feature information in this paper, named PFI for short. In the PFI framework, the population feature information consists of the standard deviation of fitness value and the sum of standard deviation of each dimension of population. Besides, population feature information archive is designed to store the population feature information and success parameters, and the utilization mechanism of population feature information assigns historical success parameters with high population feature similarity to the current corresponding population. Four widely used mutation strategies of DE are incorporated into the PFI framework to evaluate its performance by optimizing CEC2005, CEC2015, CEC2020 benchmark functions and two real world applications to verify the performance of the PFI framework. In the constrained multi-objective optimization problems, the pursuit of feasibility could improve convergence but will lead to the loss of diversity. For optimization algorithm, balancing the weight between convergence and diversity dynamically is a challenge, especially in problems with low proportion of feasible regions. In this paper, a constrained multi-objective optimization algorithm is proposed based on a hybrid driven strategy to enhance both the feasibility and diversity performance of the approximate Pareto solutions. The proposed algorithm contains two archives, that one is driven by feasibility information and the other is driven by diversity information. A self-adaptive archive selection mechanism and a conditional tournament selection strategy are proposed to provide mating parent solutions according to the evolutionary stage. Moreover, in the update of the feasibility archive, an evolutionary direction prediction mechanism is proposed and adopted to improve the evolutionary efficiency. Compared to four other multi-objective algorithms on three benchmark suits of different types, the performance of the proposed algorithm is better than the peer algorithms, especially in large-infeasible-regions multi-objective optimization problems. As one of the best differential evolution (DE) variants, jSO has attracted the attention of many researchers. However, jSO still has a few drawbacks that limit its performance, it fails to fully exploit the potential of dominant individuals, it overuses of archives, and it cannot effectively balance convergence and diversity. In order to effectively overcome these deficiencies, this paper proposes a novel jSO variant called NLPSR-jSO. NLPSR-jSO introduces a novel Non-Linear Population Size Reduction scheme to balance exploration and exploitation performance while adaptively allocating more evaluation resources to dominant individuals to fully realize their potential. Moreover, NLPSR-jSO presents a new mechanism named Adaptive Archive Usage, which prevents archive overuse and improves the accuracy of the solution. A modified Rank-Based Selective Pressure strategy is integrated into the mutation strategy to increase the diversity and prevent premature convergence. The strategies proposed by NLPSR-jSO effectively solve the above-mentioned problems of jSO, and the cooperation of these strategies significantly improves the performance of jSO. The proposed NLPSR-jSO was compared with seven state-of-the-art DE variants using the CEC 2018 test suite. The paper presents a new balanced selection operator applied to the proposed Balanced Non-dominated Tournament Genetic Algorithm (B-NTGA) that actively uses archive to solve multi- and many-objective NP-hard combinatorial optimization problems with constraints. The primary motivation is to make B-NTGA more efficient in exploring Pareto Front Approximation (PFa), focusing on "gaps" and reducing some PFa regions' sampling too frequently. Such a balancing mechanism allows B-NTGA to be more adaptive and focus on less explored PFa regions. The proposed B-NTGA is investigated on two benchmark multi- and many-objective optimization real-world problems, like Thief Traveling Problem and Multi-Skill Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem. The results of experiments show that B-NTGA has a higher efficiency and better performance than state-of-the-art methods. • New balanced GAP selection actively uses archive, focuses on Pareto Front 'gaps' to reduce too frequent sampling of regions. • B-NTGA bases and modifies NTGA2 (i.e., clone elimination, tournament as second selection) and adds balanced GAP selection. • B-NTGA is less time-consuming than NTGA2, uses fewer parameters, and is more efficient than NTGA2. • Experiments for NP-hard multi-objective optimization problems (TTP and MS-RCPSP) comparing B-NTGA to state-of-the-art methods. • Results of experiments showed that B-NTGA is highly effective for multi- and many-objective problems (like TTP and MS-RCPSP). Various variants have been proposed to improve the search ability and efficiency of Differential Evolution (DE). However, the variants ignore the impact caused by the use of accumulated historical information, resulting in unpromising performance of the search. Furthermore, the global exploration and local exploitation ability of population is affected by the population number (NP), which commonly adapts with little adaptive control or with linear descendent only. To utilize more historical population information, we propose in this paper a novel adaptive population size-based DE (APSDE) by mining historical population information, to balance global exploration and local exploitation ability. APSDE uses historical population information to mine population distribution and extract information to assign parameters to the current population. Moreover, an archive is utilized to store the historical population information, where historical successful parameter information consists of scaling factor (F), crossover rate (CR) and NP for better balancing the search ability of population. To evaluate the performance of APSDE, we conduct experiments both on the 28 benchmark functions of CEC2017, the 10 benchmark functions of CEC2020, and a real-world application - the path planning of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This article presents copies of some of the correspondence, notes, and diagrams and drawings of Norman Mailer that are part of the large collection of his papers that are held by the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin. The papers contain Mailer's first, unpublished novel, "No Percentage," written when he was an undergraduate; nearly 25,000 letters, including correspondence with Aldous Huxley, Truman Capote, and James Baldwin; his collection of CIA files; and the lyrics to his song entitled "Alimony Blues." Following two decades of sustained studies, metaheuristic algorithms have made considerable achievements in the field of multi-objective optimization problems (MOPs). However, under most existing metaheuristic frameworks, an improved scheme introduced to address specific defects usually leads to additional problems that need to be solved further. Emerging optimization mechanisms should be considered to break the bottleneck, and an adaptive multi-objective competitive swarm optimization (AMOCSO) algorithm, a promising option for solving MOPs, is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the competitive mechanism is modified so that it can perform well on MOPs, and an improved learning scheme is designed for the winners and the losers, which can greatly enhance the optimization efficiency and balance the convergence and the diversity of the proposed algorithm. Then, an external archive and its maintenance schemes are introduced to prevent the population from degenerating and make the algorithm framework more comprehensive. Moreover, a practical adaptive strategy is proposed to fill the blank of parameter research, and no human factors exist in AMOCSO, which means that an amazing promotion can be achieved in generalization. Finally, abundant experimental studies are carried out, and the results of comparative experiments show that the proposed algorithm has significant advantages over several state-of-the-art algorithms. This paper discusses the documents of The Gramophone Company's Hungarian General Agency in 1911 from various perspectives. The extraordinary size of the document collection, kept at the EMI Archives in Hayes, provides an opportunity to examine the activities of the global company in Hungary over the course of a year. Moreover, the year 1911 brought changes in the life of the company and the Budapest branch in many respects. For the first time the company planned a museum in its headquarters, and for this purpose, souvenirs were requested from the agencies established all over the world. It was also the year in which the territory of the Budapest branch was reorganised, so that the representative, Heinrich Conrad, had to explore new areas. A plan to promote the gramophone in schools in Hungary was mooted, but ultimately not implemented. In the same year, the company began to standardise the design of its advertisements, placing a considerable burden on the general agencies. In 1911, the Budapest branch also had to organise four recording sessions, and recordings were made in Budapest, Zombor [Sombor], Eszék [Osijek], Zagreb, Belgrade and Sofia. A number of fascinating and unique documents have survived in the collection, including a somewhat depressing description of living conditions in Budapest by an English accountant, a letter from Franz Hampe about a recording session in Zombor [Sombor], and a description of Hungarian folk-inspired art songs [magyarnóta] by the Budapest representative of The Gramophone Company. A particularly significant document of discological research is a detailed letter by Heinrich Conrad, in which he not only criticises the recordings made in Budapest in July 1911, but also compares them in detail with earlier recordings made in Budapest. The general framework of the proposed method uses two archives, the convergence archive (CA) and the diversity archive (DA), which focus on the convergence and diversity of population, respectively. Both archives are based on a decomposition-based framework. In CA, the population update strategy adopts a fitness scheme, which is designed according to the change state of population during evolution, combining the convergence of the objective space with the diversity of the decision space. In DA, we use the crowding distance strategy to ensure the diversity of the decision space. Moreover, different neighborhood criteria are used to ensure the convergence and diversity of population for two archives. The algorithm is shown to not only locate and maintain a larger number of Pareto-optimal sets, but also to obtain good diversity and convergence in both the decision and objective spaces. In addition, the proposed algorithm is empirically compared with five state-of-the-art evolutionary algorithms on two series of test functions. To benefit from the advantages of different MOEAs, we propose an ensemble framework (ENMOEA) in which mating and environmental selections of diverse MOEAs are combined. ENMOEA is a single-population competitive ensemble, where resource allocation to individual mating operators is done adaptively. In addition, ENMOEA employs a two-level environmental selection where constituent environmental selection operators are first applied to label solutions as "selected" and "non-selected". Solutions "selected" by most operators are preferred for future evolution. An external archive is employed to facilitate effective usage of function evaluations and achieve a better comprise between convergence and diversity. To demonstrate generality of ENMOEA, we developed two variants: 1) specific case (ENMOEA S - combines different Pareto-based MOEAs) and 2) general case (ENMOEA G - combines Pareto-based, indicator-based and decomposition-based MOEAs). From simulation results on various test suites (DTLZ, WFG and 16 real-world problems), it is evident that ENMOEA is robust to the parameters of the constituent algorithms. Multimodal multi-objective optimization problems (MMOPs) contain multiple equivalent Pareto optimal sets (PSs) corresponding to the same Pareto front (PF). However, simultaneously locating well-distributed and well-converged multiple equivalent global PSs and PF remains challenging. Therefore, this paper proposes dynamic niching particle swarm optimization (PSO) with an external archive-guided (AG) mechanism, termed DNPSO-AG, for solving MMOPs. In DNPSO-AG, a clustering-based dynamic niching technique is integrated with PSO to divide the population into multiple niches. In addition, a leader updating method controls the updating of the leaders. Furthermore, a novel external archive-guided mechanism guides the evolution of multiple niches and enhances the distribution of solutions, which comprises two strategies: the adaptive division of the external archive strategy, which adaptively divides the external archive into multiple sub-archives, and the distance-based sub-archive and niche matching strategy, which assigns sub-archives to multiple niches for maintenance. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed DNPSO-AG outperforms seven other state-of-the-art competitors on the CEC 2019 MMOP test suite in terms of the inverted generational distance (IGD) and IGD in the decision space (IGDX) metrics, with improvements of 21.3% and 9.1% over the best-performing competitor, respectively. This article focuses on the desire of Spanish citizens to access information about Spain's Civil War. The barricades went up in Salamanca on December 30. In this city where Franco set up his first military headquarters, Spain's Civil War is again being revived, though the struggle now is over several hundred cartons of documents. The boxes are stuffed with papers detailing the activities of leftist political parties and individual Republican supporters--information collected by Franco's troops and deposited in the country's official Civil War archive. Their contents of these boxes were taken from the independent province of Catalonia, and the Catalans want them back. Salamanca's mayor refuses to consider the request--despite the recommendation last year from Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's appointed commission of academic, legal and archival experts that the documents be returned. After Franco's regime spent decades enforcing a national amnesia about what happened between 1936 and 1939 and in the years of dictatorship that followed, a public wish to confront Spain's recent history is now awakening with a fury.
