One of the most widely used measures of scientific impact is the number of citations. However, due to its heavy-tailed distribution, citations are fundamentally difficult to predict but can be improved. This study was aimed at investigating the factors and parts influencing the citation number of a scientific paper in the otology field. Therefore, this work proposes a new solution that utilizes machine learning and natural language processing to process English text and provides a paper citation as the predicted results. Different algorithms are implemented in this solution, such as linear regression, boosted decision tree, decision forest, and neural networks. The application of neural network regression revealed that papers' abstracts have more influence on the citation numbers of otological articles. This new solution has been developed in visual programming using Microsoft Azure machine learning at the back end and Programming Without Coding Technology at the front end. Machine learning (ML), a form of artificial intelligence (AI), is being increasingly employed in neurology. Reported performance metrics often match or exceed the efficiency of average clinicians. The neurologist is easily baffled by the underlying concepts and terminologies associated with ML studies. The superlative performance metrics of ML algorithms often hide the opaque nature of its inner workings. Questions regarding ML model's interpretability and reproducibility of its results in real-world scenarios, need emphasis. Given an abundance of time and information, the expert clinician should be able to deliver comparable predictions to ML models, a useful benchmark while evaluating its performance. Predictive performance metrics of ML models should not be confused with causal inference between its input and output. ML and clinical gestalt should compete in a randomized controlled trial before they can complement each other for screening, triaging, providing second opinions and modifying treatment. Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) emerge in various organisms, ranging from viruses to humans, and play crucial regulatory roles within cells, participating in a variety of biological processes. In numerous prediction methods for miRNA-disease associations, the issue of over-dependence on both similarity measurement data and the association matrix still hasn't been improved. In this paper, a miRNA-Disease association prediction model (called TP-MDA) based on tree path global feature extraction and fully connected artificial neural network (FANN) with multi-head self-attention mechanism is proposed. The TP-MDA model utilizes an association tree structure to represent the data relationships, multi-head self-attention mechanism for extracting feature vectors, and fully connected artificial neural network with 5-fold cross-validation for model training. Results: The experimental results indicate that the TP-MDA model outperforms the other comparative models, AUC is 0.9714. In the case studies of miRNAs associated with colorectal cancer and lung cancer, among the top 15 miRNAs predicted by the model, 12 in colorectal cancer and 15 in lung cancer were validated respectively, the accuracy is as high as 0.9227. Conclusions: The model proposed in this paper can accurately predict the miRNA-disease association, and can serve as a valuable reference for data mining and association prediction in the fields of life sciences, biology, and disease genetics, among others. The unknown nature of the future requires us to question our decisions and seek reliable methods. The artificial neural networks approach, which is one of the methods used to best predict the future and one that is important for decision making has been thought of, particularly in recent years, as a method with a high level of validity in the fields of economy and financial prediction. The Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE), at which millions of national and international investors operate, is among the developed stock exchanges of the world. The ISE has the attributes of being appropriate for making predictions regarding financial returns, without any sector differentiation, as a whole. In this study, it was aimed to predict monthly stock yields of 14 different paper companies dealing with the ISE (Istanbul Stock Exchange) by using artificial neural network. Four different variables (the gold price, ISE daily trading volume, exchange rate purchase-sale average, and monthly deposit interest rates by utilizing) and 127 months data were used. Results show that the monthly stock yields of the paper sector can be predicted correctly to account for 95% of the variability of data with the artificial neural network model, and the average absolute percentage failure value was 6.85%. In recent years, Model Predictive Torque Control (MPTC) has gained popularity as a powerful method of controlling Induction Motors (IMs). There are, however, some factors such as the weighted coefficient that must be taken into account to attain satisfactory performance at different operation points for stator flux. As of now, an empirical procedure has been used for tuning the weighting factor in MPTC, which is not as effective. Model Predictive Flux Control (MPFC) is proposed in this paper, which eliminates complicated process of predicting the stator current by using the flux vectors as control variables. In order to get over these obstacles, a novel Model Predictive Control (MPC) method utilizing a Cascaded Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is proposed in this research. As a result, the control complexity is diminished and weighting factor in standard MPTC is eliminated. In-depth evaluations and comparisons of MPTC and MPFC are conducted, covering low-speed function, dynamic response, and steady-state performance. In contract to traditional approaches, the preferred method has much lower computational cost, virtuous dynamic response, and superior steady-state performance. The overall proposed work is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK platform and experimental tests performed on 3Φ VSI fed IM drives are used to verify the efficacy of proposed approach. The credit risk assessment acts as an important part in daily affairs for financial institutions. But in the era of big data, the growing business volume makes it an urgent demand to develop digital ways of credit risk assessment. Currently, the machine learning is universally employed to establish various data-driven models for this purpose. However, machine learning models generally suffer from limited ability of feature representation and robustness, and cannot deal with more complex financial security scenarios. To deal with this issue, this work introduces ensemble learning to construct a stronger credit risk prediction model via integration of several basic machine learning models. Thus, an ensemble learning-enhanced smart prediction model for financial credit risk is proposed in this paper. Three classification-based machine learning models (support vector machine, artificial neural network and radial basis function) are selected as the basic classifiers, and "voting" strategy is utilized to integrate them into a novel strong classifier. A real-world financial credit dataset released by a Chinese commercial bank was selected as the experimental scenario. To achieve successful prevention of fire incidents originating from human activities, it is imperative to possess a thorough understanding. This paper introduces a machine learning approach, specifically utilizing deep neural networks (DNN), to develop predictive models for fire occurrence in Keelung City, Taiwan. It investigates ten factors across demographic, architectural, and economic domains through spatial analysis and thematic maps generated from geographic information system data. These factors are then integrated as inputs for the DNN model. Through 50 iterations, performance indices including the coefficient of determination (R2), root mean square error (RMSE), variance accounted for (VAF), prediction interval (PI), mean absolute error (MAE), weighted index (WI), weighted mean absolute percentage error (WMAPE), Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NS), and the ratio of performance to deviation (RPD) are computed, with average values of 0.89, 7.30 × 10−2, 89.21, 1.63, 4.90 × 10−2, 0.97, 2.92 × 10−1, 0.88, and 4.84, respectively. The model's predictions, compared with historical data, demonstrate its efficacy. Additionally, this study explores the impact of various urban renewal strategies using the DNN model, highlighting the significant influence of economic factors on fire incidence. Banking and stock markets consider gold to be an important component of their economic and financial status. There are various factors that influence the gold price trend and its fluctuations. Accurate and reliable prediction of the gold price is an essential part of financial and portfolio management. Moreover, it could provide insights about potential buy and sell points in order to prevent financial damages and reduce the risk of investment. In this paper, different architectures of deep neural network (DNN) have been proposed based on long short-term memory (LSTM) and convolutional-based neural networks (CNN) as a hybrid model, along with automatic parameter tuning to increase the accuracy, coefficient of determination, of the forecasting results. An illustrative dataset from the closing gold prices for 44 years, from 1978 to 2021, is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of this method. The grid search technique finds the optimal set of DNNs' parameters. Furthermore, to assess the efficiency of DNN models, three statistical indices of RMSE, RMAE, and coefficient of determination (R2), were calculated for the test set. Results indicate that the proposed hybrid model (CNN-Bi-LSTM) outperforms other models in total bias, capturing extreme values and obtaining promising results. The reusability of by-products in the food industry is consistent with sustainable and greener production; therefore, the aim of this paper was to evaluate the applicability of multiple linear regression (MLR), piecewise linear regression (PLR) and artificial neural network models (ANN) to the prediction of grape-skin compost's physicochemical properties (moisture, dry matter, organic matter, ash content, carbon content, nitrogen content, C/N ratio, total colour change of compost samples, pH, conductivity, total dissolved solids and total colour change of compost extract samples) during in-vessel composting based on the initial composting conditions (air-flow rate, moisture content and day of sampling). Based on the coefficient of determination for prediction, the adjusted coefficient of determination for calibration, the root-mean-square error of prediction (RMSEP), the standard error of prediction (SEP), the ratio of prediction to deviation (RPD) and the ratio of the error range (RER), it can be concluded that all developed MLR and PLR models are acceptable for process screening. Furthermore, the ANN model developed for predicting moisture and dry-matter content can be used for quality control (RER >11). Modern data mining techniques using machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) algorithms have been shown to excel in the regression-based task of materials property prediction using various materials representations. In an attempt to improve the predictive performance of the deep neural network model, researchers have tried to add more layers as well as develop new architectural components to create sophisticated and deep neural network models that can aid in the training process and improve the predictive ability of the final model. However, usually, these modifications require a lot of computational resources, thereby further increasing the already large model training time, which is often not feasible, thereby limiting usage for most researchers. In this paper, we study and propose a deep neural network framework for regression-based problems comprising of fully connected layers that can work with any numerical vector-based materials representations as model input. We present a novel deep regression neural network, iBRNet, with branched skip connections and multiple schedulers, which can reduce the number of parameters used to construct the model, improve the accuracy, and decrease the training time of the predictive model. We perform the model training using composition-based numerical vectors representing the elemental fractions of the respective materials and compare their performance against other traditional ML and several known DL architectures. Using multiple datasets with varying data sizes for training and testing, We show that the proposed iBRNet models outperform the state-of-the-art ML and DL models for all data sizes. We also show that the branched structure and usage of multiple schedulers lead to fewer parameters and faster model training time with better convergence than other neural networks. In a first study, this paper argues and demonstrates that spiking neural networks (SNN) can be successfully used for predictive and explainable modelling of multimodal streaming data. The paper proposes a new method, where both time series and on-line news are integrated as numerical streaming data in the same time domain and then used to train incrementally a SNN model. The connectivity and the spiking activity of the SNN are then analyzed through clustering and dynamic graph extraction to reveal on-line interaction between all input variables in regard to the predicted one. The paper answers the main research question of how to understand the dynamic interaction of time series and on-line news through their integrative modelling. It offers a new method to evaluate the efficiency of using on-line news on the predictive modelling of time series. Results on financial stock time series and online news are presented. In contrast to traditional machine learning techniques, the method reveals the dynamic interaction between stock variables and news and their dynamic impact on model accuracy when compared to models that do not use news information. Along with the used financial data, the method is applicable to a wide range of other multimodal time series and news data, such as economic, medical, environmental and social. Simple Summary: This paper introduces a novel graph neural network (a hierarchical graph pooling model), SANEpool, to effectively detect core sub-networks of significant genes for predicting the synergy score of drug/drug combinations in cancer. SANEpool successfully addresses the limitations of the un-transparency in the prediction process of previous computational AI models for drug synergy prediction, while providing the superior predictive performance than popular baselines on numerous drug-synergy prediction datasets. Synergistic drug combinations provide huge potentials to enhance therapeutic efficacy and to reduce adverse reactions. However, effective and synergistic drug combination prediction remains an open question because of the unknown causal disease signaling pathways. Though various deep learning (AI) models have been proposed to quantitatively predict the synergism of drug combinations, the major limitation of existing deep learning methods is that they are inherently not interpretable, which makes the conclusions of AI models untransparent to human experts, henceforth limiting the robustness of the model conclusion and the implementation ability of these models in real-world human–AI healthcare. In this paper, we develop an interpretable graph neural network (GNN) that reveals the underlying essential therapeutic targets and the mechanism of the synergy (MoS) by mining the sub-molecular network of great importance. The key point of the interpretable GNN prediction model is a novel graph pooling layer, a self-attention-based node and edge pool (henceforth SANEpool), that can compute the attention score (importance) of genes and connections based on the genomic features and topology. As such, the proposed GNN model provides a systematic way to predict and interpret the drug combination synergism based on the detected crucial sub-molecular network. Experiments on various well-adopted drug-synergy-prediction datasets demonstrate that (1) the SANEpool model has superior predictive ability to generate accurate synergy score prediction, and (2) the sub-molecular networks detected by the SANEpool are self-explainable and salient for identifying synergistic drug combinations. A time-varying, nonlinear soil-plant system contains many unknown elements that can be quantified based on analytical methodologies. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are a widely used mathematical computing, modeling, and predicting methods that estimate unknown values of variables from known values of others. This paper aims to simulate the relationship between soil moisture, bulk density, porosity ratio, depth, and penetration resistance and to estimate soil penetration resistance with the help of ANNs. For this aim, the generalized regression neural network (GRNN) and radial basis function (RBF) models were developed and compared for the estimation of soil penetration resistance values in MATLAB. A dataset of 153 samples was collected from experimental field. From the 153 data, 102 data (33%) were selected for training and the remaining 51 data (67%) were used for testing. The estimation process implemented 10 replications using randomly selected testing and training data. mean squared error (MSE), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE) were used to evaluate estimation accuracy on the developed ANN methods. Based on MSE, RMSE, MAE and standard deviation, statistical results showed that the GRNN modeling presented better results than the RBF model in predicting soil penetration resistance success. Background: Detecting breast cancer in its early stages remains a significant challenge in the present context and is a leading cause of death among women, primarily due to delayed identification. This paper presents a practical and accurate approach based on deep learning to identify breast cancer in cytology images. Method: The analytical approach leverages knowledge from a related problem through a technique known as transfer learning. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are employed due to their remarkable performance on large datasets. Image classification architectures such as Google network (GoogleNet), Visual geographical group network (VGGNet), residual network (ResNet), and dense convolution network (DenseNet) are utilized in this approach. By applying transfer learning, the images are classified into two categories: those containing cancer cells and those without them. The performance of the proposed ensemble method is evaluated using a breast cytology image dataset. Results: The results of our proposed ensemble framework outperform conventional CNN models in terms of precision, recall, and F1 measures, achieving an impressive 86% prediction accuracy. Visual representations of validation graphs for each classifier demonstrate that the ensemble framework surpasses the performance of pre-trained CNN architectures. Conclusion: Combining the outcomes of conventional CNN architectures into an ensemble framework enhances early breast cancer detection, leading to a reduction in mortality through timely medical interventions. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a leading approach in performance analysis and discovering newer benchmarks, and the traditional DEA models cannot forecast the future efficiency of decision-making units (DMUs). Machine learning, such as the artificial neural networks (ANNs), support vector machine/regression (SVM/SVR), projection pursuit regression (PPR), etc., have been viewed as beneficial for managers in predicting system behaviors. PPR is especially suitable for small and non-normal distribution samples, the usual cases in DEA analysis. This paper integrates DEA and PPR to cover the shortcomings we faced while using DEA and DEA-BPNN, DEA-SVR, etc. This study explores the advantages of combining these complementary methods into an integrated performance measurement and prediction model. Firstly, the DEA approach is used to evaluate and rank the efficiency of DMUs. Secondly, we establish two DEA-PPR combined models to describe the DEA efficiency scores (also called the production function) and the DEA-efficient frontier function. The first combined model's input variables are input–output indicators in the DEA model, and the output variable is the DEA efficiency. In the second model, its input variables are input or output indicators in the DEA model, and the output variable is the optimal input indicator for input-oriented DEA or the output indicator for output-oriented DEA. We conducted positive research on two examples with actual data and virtual small, medium-sized, and large samples. Compared with the DEA-BPNN and DEA-SVR models, the results show that the DEA-PPR combined model has more vital global optimization ability, better convergence, higher accuracy, and a simple topology. The DEA-PPR model can obtain robust results for both small and large cases. The DEA-BPNN and DEA-SVR models cannot obtain robust results for small and medium-sized samples due to overfitting. Scientific analysis of regional agricultural carbon emission prediction models and empirical studies are of great practical significance to the realization of low-carbon agriculture, which can help revitalize and build up ecological and beautiful countryside in China. This paper takes agriculture in Guangdong Province, China, as the research object, and uses the extended STIPAT model to construct an indicator system for the factors influencing agricultural carbon emissions in Guangdong. Based on this system, a combined Isomap–ACO–ET prediction model combing the isometric mapping algorithm (Isomap), ant colony algorithm (ACO) and extreme random tree algorithm (ET) was used to predict agriculture carbon emissions in Guangdong Province under five scenarios. Effective predictions can be made for agricultural carbon emissions in Guangdong Province, which are expected to fluctuate between 11,142,200 tons and 11,386,000 tons in 2030. And compared with other machine learning and neural network models, the Isomap–ACO–ET model has a better prediction performance with an MSE of 0.00018 and an accuracy of 98.7%. To develop low-carbon agriculture in Guangdong Province, we should improve farming methods, reduce the intensity of agrochemical application, strengthen the development and promotion of agricultural energy-saving and emission reduction technologies and low-carbon energy sources, reduce the intensity of carbon emissions from agricultural energy consumption, optimize the agricultural planting structure, and develop green agricultural products and agro-ecological tourism according to local conditions. Missing data is ubiquitous in hydrology. This phenomenon poses difficulty in the development of datadriven models. Events of missing data in groundwater pollution monitoring networks may occur due to failure of recording devices, malfunctioning of sensors, etc. Handling such missing data implies filling the missing portions of the data structure. Though several studies are available for dealing with missing data in the field of hydrology, literature dealing with such scenarios in groundwater pollution prediction is scarce. This paper assesses four imputation techniques-viz. linear, cubic spline, piece-wise cubic Hermite and modified Akima with cubic Hermite interpolation methods-for developing groundwater pollution prediction models using artificial neural network (ANN). The study employs the development of cascade-forward back-propagation ANN models using missing data ranging from 5% to 75% and evaluating their performance. How to predict precipitation accurately and efficiently is the key and difficult problem in the field of weather forecasting. At present, we can obtain accurate meteorological data through many high-precision weather sensors and use them to forecast precipitation. However, the common numerical weather forecasting methods and radar echo extrapolation methods have insurmountable defects. Based on some common characteristics of meteorological data, this paper proposes a Pred-SF model for precipitation prediction in target areas. The model focuses on the combination of multiple meteorological modal data to carry out self-cyclic prediction and a step-by-step prediction structure. The model divides the precipitation prediction into two steps. In the first step, the spatial encoding structure and PredRNN-V2 network are used to construct the autoregressive spatio-temporal prediction network for the multi-modal data, and the preliminary predicted value of the multi-modal data is generated frame by frame. In the second step, the spatial information fusion network is used to further extract and fuse the spatial characteristics of the preliminary predicted value and, finally, output the predicted precipitation value of the target region. In this paper, ERA5 multi-meteorological mode data and GPM precipitation measurement data are used for testing to predict the continuous precipitation of a specific area for 4 h. The experimental results show that Pred-SF has strong precipitation prediction ability. Some comparative experiments were also set up for comparison to demonstrate the advantages of the combined prediction method of multi-modal data and the stepwise prediction method of Pred-SF. Zero insulators directly reduce the electrical performance of insulator strings, affecting the safe and reliable operation of transmission lines. The grounding current of the insulator string contains the characteristic information of insulator electrical performance. Extracting the characteristic information of grounding current can realize the detection of zero value insulator, which is of great significance to ensure the safe operation of transmission lines. In this paper, the composite insulator used on ultra-high-voltage (UHV) lines is studied to analyze the influence of zero insulators on the electric field distribution. Furthermore, the corresponding characteristics of the zero insulators at different locations are extracted. The fitting relationship between the characteristic quantity and the zero insulator position is analyzed. The effective characteristics of grounding current are selected as training sample to establish the zero insulator position prediction model based on probabilistic neural network (PNN). Miscanthus is a perennial energy crop that produces high yields and has the potential to be converted into energy. The ultimate analysis determines the composition of the biomass and the energy value in terms of the higher heating value (HHV), which is the most important parameter in determining the quality of the fuel. In this study, an artificial neural network (ANN) model based on the principle of supervised learning was developed to predict the HHV of miscanthus biomass. The developed ANN model was compared with the models of predictive regression models (suggested from the literature) and the accuracy of the developed model was determined by the coefficient of determination. The paper presents data from 192 miscanthus biomass samples based on ultimate analysis and HHV. The developed model showed good properties and the possibility of prediction with high accuracy (R2 = 0.77). The paper proves the possibility of using ANN models in practical application in determining fuel properties of biomass energy crops and greater accuracy in predicting HHV than the regression models offered in the literature. The incidence of oral cancer is still increasing. It has become very common in patients with malignant tumors, which has forced medical personnel to continuously explore its treatment methods. What kind of method can effectively and correctly diagnose the disease in the early stage and improve the survival rate has become one of the research topics that have attracted much attention. Aiming at this problem, it has great research significance for the field of oral precancerous lesions diagnosis. With the in-depth research on oral precancerous diagnosis, the research on artificial neural network (ANN) in medical diagnosis is gradually carried out. Its performance advantage is of great significance to solve the problem of early and correct disease diagnosis. This paper aimed to investigate the application of ANN-assisted cancer risk prediction method in risk prediction of oral precancerous lesions. Through the analysis and research of ANN and oral cancer, the construction of oral cancer risk prediction model was applied to solve the problem of improving the survival rate of oral cancer patients. In this paper, ANN and oral precancerous lesions were analyzed, the performance of the algorithm was experimentally analyzed, and the relevant theoretical formulas were used to explain. Time-space four-dimensional motion target localization is a fundamental and challenging task in the field of intelligent driving, and an important part of achieving the upgrade in existing target localization technologies. In order to solve the problem of the lack of localization of moving targets in a spatio-temporal four-dimensional environment in the existing spatio-temporal data model, this paper proposes an optical imaging model in the four-dimensional time-space system and a mathematical model of the object-image point mapping relationship in the four-dimensional time-space system based on the central perspective projection model, combined with the one-dimensional "time" and three-dimensional "space". After adding the temporal dimension, the imaging system parameters are extended. In order to solve the nonlinear mapping problem of complex systems, this paper proposes to construct a time-space four-dimensional object-image mapping relationship model based on a BP artificial neural network and demonstrates the feasibility of the joint time-space four-dimensional imaging model theory. In the extremely competitive environment of shipping, minimizing shipping cost is the key factor for the survival and growth of shipping companies. However, stricter rules and regulations that aim at the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions published by the International Maritime Organization, force shipping companies to increase the operational efficiency of their fleet. The prediction of a ship speed in actual seas with a given power by its engine is the most important performance indicator and thus makes it the "holy grail" in pursuing better efficiency. Traditionally, tank model tests and semi-empirical formulas were the preferred solution for the aforementioned prediction and are still widely applied. However, currently, with the increased computational power that is widely available, novel and more sophisticated methods taking into consideration computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and machine learning (ML) algorithms are emerging. In this paper, we briefly present the different approaches in the prediction of a ship's speed but focus on ML methods comparing a representative number of the latest data-driven models used in papers, to provide guidelines, discover trends and identify the challenges to be faced by researchers. With the rapid development of Internet loans and the demand for Internet loans, Internet-based loan default prediction is particularly important. P2P online lending is based on Internet technology. With the popularization of personal PCs and mobile terminals, the borrower's financing cost has been reduced to a large extent, and the efficiency of the borrower's capital utilization has also been improved to a considerable level. Making full use of the existing data of the online lending platform, integrating third-party data, and predicting the default behavior of users are the major directions of future development. This paper mainly studies the network loan default prediction model based on DPNN. This paper first analyzes the problems and risks of the P2P online lending platform, then introduces the principle and characteristics of BPNN in detail, and determines the credit risk rating process for online lending based on BPNN. With the help of data analysis and processing software, after cleaning and variable selection of credit customer data provided by lending clubs, a set of corresponding online lending default risk assessment models are established through BPNN. This paper simulates the network loan default assessment model of the BPNN model and compares it with the support vector machine and regression model. The experimental results show that the highest accuracy rate of the BPNN model is 98.01% and the highest recall rate is 99.82%, which is better than the other two models; the AUC value of BPNN is 0.79, which is significantly higher than that of support vector machine and regression model. The above results show that the online loan default prediction model based on DPNN has high application value in practice. Background: During the process of the treatment of COVID-19 hospitalized patients, physicians still face a lot of unknowns and problems. Despite the application of the treatment protocol, it is still unknown why the medical status of a certain number of patients worsens and ends with death. Many factors were analyzed for the prediction of the clinical outcome of the patients using different methods. The aim of this paper was to develop a prediction model based on initial laboratory blood test results, accompanying comorbidities, and demographics to help physicians to better understand the medical state of patients with respect to possible clinical outcomes using neural networks, hypothesis testing, and confidence intervals. Methods: The research had retrospective-prospective, descriptive, and analytical character. As inputs for this research, 12 components of laboratory blood test results, six accompanying comorbidities, and demographics (age and gender) data were collected from hospital information system in Sarajevo for each patient from a sample of 634 hospitalized patients. Clinical outcome of the hospitalized patients, survival or death, was recorded 30 days after admission to the hospital. The prediction model was designed using a neural network. In addition, formal hypothesis tests were performed to investigate whether there were significant differences in laboratory blood test results and age between patients who died and those who survived, including the construction of 95% confidence intervals. Results: In this paper, 11 neural networks were developed with different threshold values to determine the optimal neural network with the highest prediction performance. The performances of the neural networks were evaluated by accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and specificity. Optimal neural network model evaluation metrics are: accuracy = 87.78%, precision = 96.37%, sensitivity = 90.07%, and specificity = 62.16%. Significantly higher values (P < 0.05) of blood laboratory result components and age were detected in patients who died. Conclusion: Optimal neural network model, results of hypothesis tests, and confidence intervals could help to predict, analyze, and better understand the medical state of COVID-19 hospitalized patients and thus reduce the mortality rate. Solar energy is widely adopted today and produced by photovoltaic or concentrator solar power (CSP). Photovoltaic technology is the most prevalent, thanks to its well-established technology and low costs. CSP technology, on the other hand, has received less attention and interest, as it requires larger investments and a considerable surface. A relevant difficulty connected to the CSP is decoupling solar randomness and energy production. This paper proposes an artificial neural network (ANN) which foresees energy production using a solar parabolic dish installed at Politecnico di Torino (Energy Center Lab). The investigation was performed using a backpropagation ANN. Different learning algorithms were used: Levenberg-Marquardt, Bayesian regularization, resilient backpropagation, and scaled conjugate gradient. Seven atmospheric condition parameters were adopted (humidity, temperature, pressure, wind velocity and direction, solar radiation, and rain), to calculate the receiver temperature as an output. Bayesian regularization was found to be the optimal model for CSP energy production. The results of this investigation suggest that the ANNs are a strong, reliable, and useful tool for predicting temperature in a CSP receiver that can be of great value in the forecasting of energy production. To help readers better understand the current research status and ideas, this article provides a detailed overview of the working mechanisms and use cases of commonly used radiological imaging and histopathology, the basic architecture of deep learning, classical pretrained models, common methods to overcome overfitting, and the application of deep learning in medical image-based cancer diagnosis. Finally, the data, label, model, and radiomics were discussed specifically and the current challenges and future research hotspots were discussed and analyzed. According to the World Health Organization, gliomas can be graded on a four-stage scale, ranging from the most benign to the most malignant. The grading of these tumors from image information is a far from trivial task for radiologists and one in which they could be assisted by machine-learning-based decision support. However, the machine learning analytical pipeline is also fraught with perils stemming from different sources, such as inadvertent data leakage, adequacy of 2D image sampling, or classifier assessment biases. In this paper, we analyze a glioma database sourced from multiple datasets using a simple classifier, aiming to obtain a reliable tumor grading and, on the way, we provide a few guidelines to ensure such reliability. Our results reveal that by focusing on the tumor region of interest and using data augmentation techniques we significantly enhanced the accuracy and confidence in tumor classifications. Evaluation on an independent test set resulted in an AUC-ROC of 0.932 in the discrimination of low-grade gliomas from high-grade gliomas, and an AUC-ROC of 0.893 in the classification of grades 2, 3, and 4. The preparation of C4 olefins from ethanol has become a research hotspot in the field of chemical product production. Based on the test data of given catalyst combination at different temperatures, a neural network prediction model for the effect of different catalyst combination and temperature on C4 olefin yield is proposed in this paper. Firstly, taking the catalyst combination and temperature as independent variables, the C4 olefin yield is analyzed by multiple regression analysis and evaluated by R-square index. Secondly, on the basis of this experiment, the BP neural network model for predicting the yield of coupling reaction is reconstructed, and the adaptive genetic operator is added to the BP neural network to optimize its threshold, weight, and convergence speed, so as to improve the accuracy of yield prediction. Finally, the prediction results of BP and GA-BP models are compared from five aspects: SSE, MAE, MSE, RMSE, and MAPE. The experimental results show that the improved model has good global optimization ability and high yield prediction accuracy in the prediction of coupling reaction yield. This paper investigates the possibility for implementing machine learning-aided prediction in analyzing the buckling phenomena of ballasted railway tracks induced by extreme temperature. In this study, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have been developed to identify the relationship between various ballasted track conditions and outputs, namely safe temperature and buckling temperature. The variables included in the objective function of the optimization problems are the lateral resistance of ballasted track provided by ballast-sleeper interaction, torsional resistance provided by fastening systems, and misalignment of the track. Due to its complexity in parameter combinations, the objective of this study is to create predictive models with the aim of minimizing the usage of scarce resources. Thus, this paper is the first to develop a novel machine learning-aided prediction of railway track buckling due to extreme temperature. Comprehensively, all 353 datasets of the safe and buckling temperatures derived from previous finite element (FE) simulation results have been collected and trained. Note that the mean squared error (MSE) and the coefficient of determination ( R 2) are considered to quantify the performance of the ANN architectures. The optimal ANN architecture with a very high rate of accuracy has been determined and highlighted. This paper proposes a learning-based approach to accelerate online calculations by combining recent advances in deep learning with robust MPC. The use of soft constraint variables addresses feasibility issues in the robust MPC design, while the employment of a symmetrical structure deep neural network (DNN) approximates the robust MPC control law. The symmetry of the network structure facilitates the training process. The use of soft constraints expands the feasible region and also increases the complexity of the training data, making the network difficult to train. Piezoelectric actuators (PEA) are high-precision devices used in applications requiring micrometric displacements. However, PEAs present non-linearity phenomena that introduce drawbacks at high precision applications. One of these phenomena is hysteresis, which considerably reduces their performance. The introduction of appropriate control strategies may improve the accuracy of the PEAs. This paper presents a high precision control scheme to be used at PEAs based on the model-based predictive control (MPC) scheme. In this work, the model used to feed the MPC controller has been achieved by means of artificial neural networks (ANN). This approach simplifies the obtaining of the model, since the achievement of a precise mathematical model that reproduces the dynamics of the PEA is a complex task. The presented approach has been embedded over the dSPACE control platform and has been tested over a commercial PEA, supplied by Thorlabs, conducting experiments to demonstrate improvements of the MPC. In addition, the results of the MPC controller have been compared with a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. Pavement management systems (PMSs) have a primary role in determining pavement condition monitoring and maintenance strategies. Moreover, many researchers have focused on pavement condition evaluation tools, starting with data collection, followed by processing, analyzing, and ultimately reaching practical conclusions regarding pavement condition. The analysis step is considered an essential part of the pavement condition evaluation process, as it focuses on the tools used to find the most accurate results. On the other hand, prediction models are important tools used in pavement condition evaluation to determine the current and future performance of the road pavement. Therefore, pavement condition prediction has an effective and significant role in identifying the appropriate maintenance techniques and treatment processes. Moreover, pavement performance indices are commonly used as key indicators to describe the condition of pavement surfaces and the level of pavement degradation. This paper systematically summarizes the existing performance prediction models conducted to predict the condition of asphalt pavement degradation using pavement condition indexes (PCI) and the international roughness index (IRI). These performance indices are commonly used in pavement monitoring to accurately evaluate the health status of pavement. The paper also identifies and summarizes the most influencing parameters in road pavement condition prediction models and presents the strength and weaknesses of each prediction model. Based on the BP neural network and the ARIMA model, this paper predicts the nonlinear residual of GDP and adds the predicted values of the two models to obtain the final predicted value of the model. First, the focus is on the ARMA model in the univariate time series. However, in real life, forecasts are often affected by many factors, so the following introduces the ARIMAX model in the multivariate time series. In the prediction process, the network structure and various parameters of the neural network are not given in a systematic way, so the operation of the neural network is affected by many factors. Each forecasting method has its scope of application and also has its own weaknesses caused by the characteristics of its own model. Secondly, this paper proposes an effective combination method according to the GDP characteristics and builds an improved algorithm BP neural network price prediction model, the research on the combination of GDP prediction model is currently mostly focused on the weighted form, and this article proposes another combination, namely, error correction. According to the price characteristics, we determine the appropriate number of hidden layer nodes and build a BP neural network price prediction model based on the improved algorithm. Validation of examples shows that the error-corrected GDP forecast model is also better than the weighted GDP forecast model, which shows that error correction is also a better combination of forecasting methods. The forecast results of BP neural network have lower errors and monthly prices. The relative error of prediction is about 2.5%. The current cancer diagnosis system is becoming outmoded due to the new and rapid growth in cancer cases, and new, effective, and efficient methodologies are now required. Accurate cancer-type prediction is essential for cancer diagnosis and treatment. Understanding, diagnosing, and identifying the various types of cancer can be greatly aided by knowledge of the cancer genes. The Convolution Neural Network (CNN) and neural pattern recognition (NPR) approaches are used in this study paper to detect and predict the type of cancer. Different Convolution Neural Networks (CNNs) have been proposed by various researchers up to this point. Each model concentrated on a certain set of parameters to simulate the expression of genes. We have developed a novel CNN-NPR architecture that predicts cancer type while accounting for the tissue of origin using high-dimensional gene expression inputs. The 5000-person sample of the 1-D CNN integrated with NPR is trained and tested on the gene profile, mapping with various cancer kinds. The proposed model's accuracy of 94% suggests that the suggested combination may be useful for long-term cancer diagnosis and detection. It is difficult to diagnose in its early stages; therefore, we proposed an easy-to-use telemedicine device to tackle skin cancer without expert intervention. We developed a lightweight, accurate, general-purpose deep learning algorithm for skin cancer classification. Squeeze-MNet combines a Squeeze algorithm for digital hair removal during preprocessing and a MobileNet deep learning model with predefined weights. The Squeeze algorithm extracts important image features from the image, and the black-hat filter operation removes noise. The MobileNet model (with a dense neural network) was developed using the International Skin Imaging Collaboration (ISIC) dataset to fine-tune the model. The proposed model is lightweight; the prototype was tested on a Raspberry Pi 4 Internet of Things device with a Neo pixel 8-bit LED ring; a medical doctor validated the device. The average precision (AP) for benign and malignant diagnoses was 99.76% and 98.02%, respectively. Using our approach, the required dataset size decreased by 66%. Endplate moment connections with shape memory alloy (SMA) bolts provide self-centering for the seismic resilience of structures. Predicting the self-centering response of these new beam–column connections, which have not been codified yet, requires conducting experimental tests or detailed continuum finite-element simulations. Computationally efficient predictive tools are needed to facilitate the analysis, design, and assessment of self-centering connections and moment frames. In this paper, artificial neural networks (ANNs) are used to develop a MATLAB tool for predicting the moment-rotation backbone and self-centering response of extended endplate connections with SMA bolts. As the input for the neural networks, the predictive model development employs a design database of response parameters from 72 finite-element (FE) models and experimental tests of seven beam–column connection specimens. Neural networks are trained for seven response parameters, and the trained networks are used to develop a graphical user interface (GUI). The coefficient of determination for the trained ANNs is in the range of 0.92 to 0.99, indicating acceptable prediction accuracy. Furthermore, optimization studies using a multiobjective genetic algorithm are performed, seeking the minimization of material use (steel and SMA) and improved connection-response characteristics (i.e., stiffness, strength, and ductility). A phenomenological model of SMA connections is also developed in OpenSees. The use of the ANN-based predictive tool for accurate and efficient modeling of SMA-based connections and self-centering moment-resisting frames is illustrated. The computation time for predicting the moment-rotation response of a typical SMA connection is significantly reduced from seven hours in ANSYS to only three minutes in OpenSees while providing the same level of response prediction accuracy. This paper incorporates the adaptive neurofuzzy inference system (ANFIS) technique to model the yield of bio-oil. The estimation of this parameter was performed according to pyrolysis conditions and biomass compositions of feedstock. For this purpose, this paper innovates two optimization methods including a genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). Primary data were gathered from previous studies and included 244 data of biodiesel oils. The findings showed a coefficient determination ( R 2 ) of 0.937 and RMSE of 2.1053 for the GA-ANFIS model, and a coefficient determination ( R 2 ) of 0.968 and RMSE of 1.4443 for PSO-ANFIS. This study indicates the capability of the PSO-ANFIS algorithm in the estimation of the bio-oil yield. According to the performed analysis, this model shows a higher ability than the previously presented models in predicting the target values and can be a suitable alternative to time-consuming and difficult experimental tests. The goal of software defect prediction is to make predictions by mining the historical data using models. Current software defect prediction models mainly focus on the code features of software modules. However, they ignore the connection between software modules. This paper proposed a software defect prediction framework based on graph neural network from a complex network perspective. Firstly, we consider the software as a graph, where nodes represent the classes, and edges represent the dependencies between the classes. Then, we divide the graph into multiple subgraphs using the community detection algorithm. Thirdly, the representation vectors of the nodes are learned through the improved graph neural network model. Lastly, we use the representation vector of node to classify the software defects. The proposed model is tested on the PROMISE dataset, using two graph convolution methods, based on the spectral domain and spatial domain in the graph neural network. The investigation indicated that both convolution methods showed an improvement in various metrics, such as accuracy, F-measure, and MCC (Matthews correlation coefficient) by 86.6%, 85.8%, and 73.5%, and 87.5%, 85.9%, and 75.5%, respectively. The average improvement of various metrics was noted as 9.0%, 10.5%, and 17.5%, and 6.3%, 7.0%, and 12.1%, respectively, compared with the benchmark models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, an artificial neural network (ANN) based system-level model predictive control framework is established for a variable air volume (VAV) system to improve its robustness and energy efficiency. The VAV system consists of three processes: the zone temperature process, the damper process and the supply air volume process of the air handling unit connecting the ductwork for all of the boxes. An ANN-based predictive controller is designed for the zone temperature process, and a PI controller is used for the damper process; they operate in a cascaded manner. Another ANN predictive controller tracks the total supply air volume subject to the cooling load constraints from the lower level VAV boxes and minimizes the fan energy consumption. The ANN controllers are optimized online by the Lagrange variational approach (LVA) to minimize the system cost function and implement a feedback receding horizon optimal control. With the LVA based gradient descent training algorithm, the weight convergence of the ANN predictive controllers and stability of the control system is obtained with small computational and storage needs. The modeling methodology, based on ANNs for the above processes, is developed and calibrated with actual data measured from a site. All of the data processing and control strategy implementations are based on extensive measurements collected from a laboratory building located in the campus of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture , Beijing , China. The experimental results show that an additional 6.12% energy savings is achieved. This is accomplished by introducing the fan control signal into the system cost function as the performance index of energy consumption with a 0.2 penalty coefficient. Keeping railway tracks in good operational condition is one of the most important tasks for railway owners. As a result, railway companies have to conduct track inspections periodically, which is costly and time-consuming. Due to the rapid development in computer science, many prediction models using machine learning methods have been developed. It is possible to discover the degradation pattern and develop accurate prediction models. These psychological issues vary from one human to other human based on different personality traits. In this paper, we discussed both psychological issues together with personality traits for predicting the best human capital that is mentally healthy and strong. In this research, we replace the traditional methods of research used in the past for judging the mental health of the society, with the latest artificial intelligence techniques to predict these components for attaining the best human capital. In the past, researchers have point out major flaws in predicting psychological issue and addressing a right solution to the human resource working in organizations of the world. In order to give solution to these issues, we used five different psychological issues pertinent to human beings for accurate prediction of human resource personality that effect the overall performance of the employee. In this regard, a sample of 500 data has been collected to train and test on computer through python for selecting the best model that will outperform all the other models. We used supervised AI techniques like support vector machine linear, support vector machine radial basis function, decision tree model, logistic regression, and neural networks. Results proved that psychological issue data from employee of different organizations are better means for predicting the overall performance based on personality traits than using either of them alone. Overall, the novel traditional techniques predicted that sustainable organization is always subject to the control of psychological illness and polishing the personality traits of their human capital. The existence of contaminants in metal alloys products is the main problem affecting the product quality, which is an important requirement for competitiveness in industries. This paper proposes the application of a relevance vector machine for regression (RVR) and a support vector machine for regression (SVR) optimized by a self-adaptive differential evolution algorithm for regression to model the phosphorus concentration levels in a steelmaking process based on actual data. In general, the appropriate choice of learning hyperparameters is a crucial step in obtaining a well-tuned RVM and SVM. To address this issue, we apply a self-adaptive differential evolution algorithm, which is an evolutionary algorithm for global optimization. We compare the performance of the RVR and SVR models with the ridge regression, multiple linear regression, model trees, artificial neural network, and random vector functional link neural network models. RVR and SVR models have smaller RMSE values and better performance than the other models. The sudden arrival of the new crown epidemic has had a significant and long-lasting impact on the division's economic environment as well as the production and operation activities of businesses. As far as the financial management is concerned, opportunities and difficulties are faced by enterprises of all types. With reference to the available research data, enterprises have an important contribution to GDP and jobs, but they still face a series of difficulties and challenges in their development in the context of the normalization of the epidemic. By analyzing the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic on the financial management work of enterprises, this paper proposes an artificial neural network-based enterprise financial forecasting and early warning method to provide an effective method for enterprise financial management. For the time-series characteristics of enterprise finances, a prediction model based on long- and short-term memory networks is developed which acknowledges the necessity of combining the temporal dimension with the spatial dimension for forecasting. This model incorporates time qualities into the data to the existing forecasting model. It also considers both working and nonworking day data and thoroughly considers the factors influencing corporate finance. Then, using BP neural network for financial risk prediction, nonfinancial index factors should be added to the financial early warning model thus eliminating the limitations of the financial early warning model. At the same time, the accuracy of the prediction can be improved which is more suitable for enterprises to apply in practice. The experimental results demonstrate that the financial prediction model built by multilayer feed forward neural networks and recurrent neural networks based on error back propagation training is inferior to the prediction model built by long- and short-term memory network. Regardless of the degree of fitting or prediction accuracy, the BP neural network model outperforms the conventional model for enterprise financial warning. In 2014, the relevant research data from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Land and Resources showed that the total exceedance rate of soil heavy metal pollution in China had reached 16.1%, and in the construction of ecological civilization in the 13th Five-Year Plan, China has made the prevention and control of soil heavy metal pollution as the focus of prevention and control. Therefore, in this paper, four neural optimization network models, that is, radial basis neural network (RBFNN), generalized regression neural network (GRNN), wavelet neural network (WNN), and fuzzy neural network (FNN), are simulated and created to measure and correlate the soil heavy metal content in a city in northwest China and a city in central China from the actual situation in China. The simulations were conducted. Finally, by analyzing the comparison of predicted and true values of these four models on the test data of two sets of experimental data, the distribution of predicted differences to true values, and the calculation results of three error indicators, we found that WNN has the best prediction performance when using RBFNN, GRNN, WNN, and FNN for soil heavy metal content prediction. A large amount of clinical evidence began to mount, showing that circular ribonucleic acids (RNAs; circRNAs) perform a very important function in complex diseases by participating in transcription and translation regulation of microRNA (miRNA) target genes. However, with strict high-throughput techniques based on traditional biological experiments and the conditions and environment, the association between circRNA and miRNA can be discovered to be labor-intensive, expensive, time-consuming, and inefficient. In this paper, we proposed a novel computational model based on Word2vec, Structural Deep Network Embedding (SDNE), Convolutional Neural Network and Deep Neural Network, which predicts the potential circRNA-miRNA associations, called Word2vec, SDNE, Convolutional Neural Network and Deep Neural Network (WSCD). Specifically, the WSCD model extracts attribute feature and behaviour feature by word embedding and graph embedding algorithm, respectively, and ultimately feed them into a feature fusion model constructed by combining Convolutional Neural Network and Deep Neural Network to deduce potential circRNA-miRNA interactions. The proposed method is proved on dataset and obtained a prediction accuracy and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 81.61% and 0.8898, respectively, which is shown to have much higher accuracy than the state-of-the-art models and classifier models in prediction. In addition, 23 miRNA-related circular RNAs (circRNAs) from the top 30 were confirmed in relevant experiences. In these works, all results represent that WSCD would be a helpful supplementary reliable method for predicting potential miRNA-circRNA associations compared to wet laboratory experiments.
