The problem of finding optimal block designs can be formulated as a combinatorial optimization, but its resolution is still a formidable challenge. This paper presents a general and user-friendly algorithm, namely Modified Particle Swarm Optimization (MPSO), to construct optimal or near-optimal block designs. It can be used for several classes of block designs such as binary, non-binary and test-control block designs with correlated or uncorrelated observations. In order to evaluate the algorithm, we compare our results with the optimal designs presented in some published papers. This paper proposes a novel multi-hybrid algorithm named DHPN, using the best-known properties of dwarf mongoose algorithm (DMA), honey badger algorithm (HBA), prairie dog optimizer (PDO), cuckoo search (CS), grey wolf optimizer (GWO) and naked mole rat algorithm (NMRA). It follows an iterative division for extensive exploration and incorporates major parametric enhancements for improved exploitation operation. To counter the local optima problems, a stagnation phase using CS and GWO is added. Six new inertia weight operators have been analyzed to adapt algorithmic parameters, and the best combination of these parameters has been found. An analysis of the suitability of DHPN towards population variations and higher dimensions has been performed. For performance evaluation, the CEC 2005 and CEC 2019 benchmark data sets have been used. A comparison has been performed with differential evolution with active archive (JADE), self-adaptive DE (SaDE), success history based DE (SHADE), LSHADE-SPACMA, extended GWO (GWO-E), jDE100, and others. The DHPN algorithm is also used to solve the image fusion problem for four fusion quality metrics, namely, edge-based similarity index ( Q A B / F ), sum of correlation difference (SCD), structural similarity index measure (SSIM), and artifact measure ( N A B / F ). The average Q A B / F = 0.765508 , S C D = 1.63185 , S S I M = 0.726317 , and N A B / F = 0.006617 shows the best combination of results obtained by DHPN with respect to the existing algorithms such as DCH, CBF, GTF, JSR and others. Experimental and statistical Wilcoxon's and Friedman's tests show that the proposed DHPN algorithm performs significantly better in comparison to the other algorithms under test. As the terminal of the power system, the distribution network is the main area where failures occur. In addition, with the integration of distributed generation, the traditional distribution network becomes more complex, rendering the conventional fault location algorithms based on a single power supply obsolete. Therefore, it is necessary to seek a new algorithm to locate the fault of the distributed power distribution network. In existing fault localization algorithms for distribution networks, since there are only two states of line faults, which can usually be represented by 0 and 1, most algorithms use discrete algorithms with this characteristic for iterative optimization. Therefore, this paper combines the advantages of the particle swarm algorithm and genetic algorithm and uses continuous real numbers for iteration to construct a successive particle swarm genetic algorithm (SPSO-GA) different from previous algorithms. The accuracy, speed, and fault tolerance of SPSO-GA, discrete particle swarm Genetic algorithm, and artificial fish swarm algorithm are compared in an IEEE33-node distribution network with the distributed power supply. The simulation results show that the SPSO-GA algorithm has high optimization accuracy and stability for single, double, or triple faults. Furthermore, SPSO-GA has a rapid convergence velocity, requires fewer particles, and can locate the fault segment accurately for the distribution network containing distorted information. Power system operators are faced with the problem of unit commitment belonging to mixed integer programming, which becomes very complicated, as units become large-scale and highly constrained. Because unit commitment problem is a binary problem with commitment and de-commitment, a discrete/binary optimization algorithm with superior performance is required. This paper proposes a novel hybrid binary bat algorithm for unit commitment problem, which consists of two process. To begin with, the proposed binary bat algorithm is applied to determining the commitment schedule of unit commitment problem. Specifically, an improved crossover operator based on exponential-logic-modulo map is proposed to enhance the convergence and maintain the diversity of populations. To prevent the algorithm from falling into a local optimum, a local mutation strategy performs local perturbation. Chaotic map is responsible for updating some parameters to increase the performance of the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, Lambda-iteration method is adopted to solve economic load dispatch in continuous space. Constraint handling is performed using the heuristic constraint produce. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by benchmark functions and test systems. Arithmetic optimization algorithm (AOA) is a meta-heuristic optimization method based on mathematical operators proposed in recent years. Although it has good performance, it can also lead to insufficient local search ability and falling into local optima when solving complex optimization problems. In order to make up for the above shortcomings, the optimization performance of AOA is further improved. This paper proposes a hybrid algorithm based on AOA and particle swarm optimization (PSO) called HAOAPSO. Firstly, a compound opposition-based learning (COBL) strategy is introduced to broaden the scope of finding optimal solutions to help the algorithm better jump out of local optima. Secondly, PSO is combined with AOA that integrates COBL to improve the algorithm's local search ability, so as to improve the overall search efficiency of the algorithm. In addition, experiments are performed on 23 classical benchmark functions with different characteristics and five engineering design optimization problems, and the experimental results of HAOAPSO are compared with those of other well-known optimization algorithms to comprehensively evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm. A secure encryption scheme, combining multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO), optical chaos, and DNA algorithm is proposed and demonstrated. In this paper, a secure encryption and decryption architecture based on optical chaotic synchronization system with injection-locking is analyzed. We prove that a main laser (ML) can drive two-pair secondary lasers (TPSLs) to generate the synchronized optical chaos with high complexity. The system employs the XOR operation between the Hash value of the initial image and optimized value by MOPSO, which modulates the bias current of ML, thus TPSLs are driven to generate two pair synchronized chaotic sequences, which combine the Hash value of the initial image to generate two keys through a certain algorithm. Furthermore, two keys are used to scramble the pixel positions of the image and diffuse image pixels through DNA rules, and then in receiving end, two same keys are used to unscramble and reversely diffuse the encrypted image. Besides modulating the bias current of ML, the other aim of MOPSO is to optimize the entropy of the encrypted image and the correlation between the adjacent pixels. In order to ensure the recovery of real image, we compute and compare the digest-message of two pair synchronized chaotic sequences by using Hash algorithm in two ends before transmitting the encrypted image over optical fiber link. By synchronizing with the lasers at the sending end, we obtained two same keys to decrypt the ciphertext image in the receiving end. This paper presents an improved arithmetic optimization algorithm that incorporates hybrid elite pool strategies to address the limitations of the arithmetic optimization algorithm (AOA). In AOA, the linear mathematical optimization acceleration (MOA) function cannot balance global exploitation and local exploration well. Therefore, the accuracy and convergence speed of the algorithm cannot be guaranteed. To improve the performance of AOA, this paper reconstructed a nonlinear MOA function, which is expected to balance the exploitation and the exploration of AOA. Furthermore, four hybrid elite pool strategies are integrated to enhance the ability to escape local optima. The proposed algorithm inherits the fast convergence of AOA and develops the performance of escaping local optima. Numerical experiment results on benchmark functions and engineering problems show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other compared meta-heuristic algorithms in terms of convergence speed and accuracy. The Internet of Things (IoT) is constantly evolving. The variety of IoT applications has caused new demands to emerge on users' part and competition between computing service providers. On the one hand, an IoT application may exhibit several important criteria, such as deadline and runtime simultaneously, and it is confronted with resource limitations and high energy consumption on the other hand. This has turned to adopting a computing environment and scheduling as a fundamental challenge. To resolve the issue, IoT applications are considered in this paper as a workflow composed of a series of interdependent tasks. The tasks in the same workflow (at the same level) are subject to priorities and deadlines for execution, making the problem far more complex and closer to the real world. In this paper, a hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization and Simulated Annealing algorithm (PSO–SA) is used for prioritizing tasks and improving fitness function. Our proposed method managed the task allocation and optimized energy consumption and makespan at the fog-cloud environment nodes. Edge computing enables portable devices to provide smart applications, and the indoor positioning technique offers accurate location-based indoor navigation and personalized smart services. To achieve the high positioning accuracy, an indoor positioning algorithm based on particle filter requires a large number of sample particles to approximate the probability density function, which leads to the additional computational cost and high fusion delay. Focusing on real-time and accurate positioning, an edge computing-enabled green multi-source fusion indoor positioning algorithm called APFP is proposed based on adaptive particle filter in this paper. APFP considers both pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) signals in mobile terminals and the received signal strength indication (RSSI) of Bluetooth, and effectively merges the error-free accumulation of trilateral positioning and the accurate short-range positioning of PDR, which enables mobile terminals adaptively perform particle filter to reduce the computing time and power consumption while ensuring positioning accuracy simultaneously. Detailed experimental results show that, compared with the traditional particle filter algorithm and the map-constrained algorithm, the proposed APFP reduces fusion computing cost by 59.89% and 54.37%, respectively. The chimp optimization algorithm (ChOA) is a nature-inspired algorithm that imitates chimpanzees' individual intelligence and hunting behaviors. In this algorithm, the hunting process consists of four steps: driving, blocking, chasing, and attacking. Because of the novelty of ChOA, the steps of the hunting process have been modeled in the simplest possible way, leading to slow and premature convergence similar to other iterative algorithms. This paper proposes six spiral functions and introduces two novel hybrid spiral functions (SEB-ChOA) to rectify the abovementioned deficiencies. The SEB-ChOAs' performance is evaluated on 23 standard benchmarks, 20 benchmarks of IEEE CEC-2005, 10 cases of IEEE CEC06-2019 test-suite, and 12 constrained real-world engineering problems of IEEE CEC-2020. The SEB-ChOAs are compared with three groups of optimization algorithms, including Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) as the most well-known optimization algorithms, Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA), Marine Predators Algorithm (MPA), Ant Lion Optimization (ALO), Henry Gas Solubility Optimization (HGSO), as almost novel optimization algorithms, and jDE100 and DISHchain1e+12, as winners of IEEE CEC06-2019 competition, and also EBOwithCMAR and CIPDE as superior secondary optimization algorithms. The SEB-ChOAs reached the first rank among almost all benchmarks and demonstrated very competitive results compared to jDE100 and DISHchain1e+12 as the best-performing optimizers. Statistical evidence shows that the SEB-ChOA outperforms the PSO, GA, SMA, MPA, ALO, and HGSO optimizers while producing results comparable to those of the jDE100 and DISHchain1e+12 algorithms. Identifying the location of the sensor nodes is a challenging aspect of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) in a distributed environment. It is vital to understand where data and events come from when sensor nodes collect data and report on them. This paper uses a nature-inspired Jaya algorithm to estimate the location coordinates of target nodes in a distributed architecture of WSNs. The Jaya algorithm handles the nonlinear optimization problem of node localization in a randomly distributed sensor node configuration. The range-based, Received Signal Strength Indicator method is used for the distance estimation. MATLAB software is used to assess the proposed work, and a comparison is made with the Particle Swarm Optimization, Krill Herd Optimization, and Salp Swarm Algorithm based node localization algorithms in terms of localization error and computation time. In this paper, we derive a random-enhanced quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) algorithm and develop a new finite difference (FD) scheme based on this algorithm. The random-enhanced QPSO algorithm has advantages of convergence speed and can converge within the 200th iteration. Under the same conditions, the convergence speed of the conventional QPSO algorithm is much lower than that of the random-enhanced QPSO algorithm. Numerical dispersion analysis reveals that the optimized FD scheme based on the random-enhanced QPSO algorithm has a broader spectral coverage, and the accuracy error is maintained within a valid range, signifying that the random-enhanced QPSO algorithm can better search for accurate global solutions. Finally, numerical modeling of elastic wave equations is performed using the optimized FD scheme based on the random-enhanced QPSO algorithm. Cloud computing has experienced extraordinary development across a wide range of industries by giving customers the flexibility to employ computing resources as needed. The task scheduling problem is one of several major challenges in cloud computing, and it should be scheduled effectively to minimize makespan and maximize resource utilization. Therefore, this paper put forward an improved scheduling efficiency algorithm called Enhanced Marine Predator Algorithm (EMPA). Firstly, task scheduling model with makespan and resource utilization is constructed. Secondly, each individual represents a result of task scheduling, and the purpose of algorithms is to find the optimal scheduling result, therefore the operator of WOA, nonlinear inertia weight coefficient and golden sine strategy are introduced into Marine Predator Algorithm. In the simulation experiment, EMPA is compared with Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) under different number of tasks in synthetic datasets and GoCJ datasets.The experimental results show that the EMPA algorithm has more advantages in terms of makespan, degree of imbalance, and resource utilization. This paper extends our previous algorithm, termed as Particle Swarm Optimization with Distributed Acceleration Constants (PSODAC), which has been introduced for mitigating congestion based on rescheduling in a deregulated environment. The proposed variant adopts a sequential hybridization of the PSODAC principle with Differential Evolution, which is a well-known evolutionary algorithm. The variant in this paper is termed as Sequentially Hybridized Differential Evolution with Particle Swarm Optimization (SH-DEPSO). The experimental investigations are carried out in the IEEE 14 bus system in two scenarios namely, single point congestion and multipoint congestion. Firstly, the performance investigation is carried out on mitigating the congestion using cost analysis, stability analysis, complexity analysis, and strategy analysis. Secondly, the characteristics of the algorithm are observed by performing convergence analysis and investigating the quality of the solution dynamics. Software as a service (SaaS) provider hires resources from an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provider and provides these sharable resources to user's applications on lease. However, it is becoming a more challenging issue for SaaS providers to meet user's Quality of Service (QoS) Parameter and maximize profit from cloud infrastructure. This proposed work satisfies both the user and the service provider by fulfilling service level agreement (SLA), user's QoS requirement, and increasing profit with efficient resources utilization. This paper proposes an Improved Quantum Salp Swarm Algorithm (IQSSA), which improves the Salp Swarm algorithm by incorporating the principles of Quantum computing to increase the convergence rate. Further, Quantum-inspired Salp Swarm Grey Wolf Algorithm (QSSGWA) embeds SSA with Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) to improve the global optimum solution, and quantum operator is used to initializing population. Proposed algorithms execute tasks under the user-defined deadline and budget constraints. Furthermore, the penalty cost is formulated and applied in the case of a deadline violation. IQSSA and QSSGWA are tested on 19 global benchmark functions, and results prove their superior performance compared to SSA, GWO, BAT, and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Furthermore, these algorithms are simulated on CloudSim, and performance matrices such as service provider's profit, makespan, SLA violation rate, task rejection rate, throughput, resource utilization, and response time are compared. The comparison analysis demonstrates that the proposed algorithms offer better performance and more efficient scheduling than existing metaheuristics. Furthermore, simulation results clearly show that QSSGWA gives the best results for all performance matrices. The salp swarm algorithm (SSA) is a well-known optimization algorithm that is increasingly being utilized to solve many sorts of optimization problems. However, SSA may converge to sub-optimal solutions when it is applied to discrete problems such as the feature selection (FS) problem. This paper presents the enhanced opposition-based learning salp swarm algorithm (EOSSA), which is an improved SSA algorithm for solving the FS problem in intrusion detection systems (IDS). EOSSA incorporates four improvements into the original SSA algorithm. Firstly, the opposition-based learning (OBL) method is used in the initialization step of SSA to boost its population diversity. Secondly, the Elite opposition-based learning (EOBL) is used in the improvement loop of SSA to improve its exploration ability. Third, a variable neighborhood search (VNS) method is used in the improvement loop of SSA to improve its exploration mechanism to improve the local search space. Lastly, the Sigmoid binary transform function is used to convert the continuous candidate solutions produced by SSA into discrete binary solutions. EOSSA was evaluated against eighteen popular optimization algorithms (e.g., improved salp swarm algorithm based on opposition-based learning (ISSA), SSA, particle swarm algorithm (PSO), cuckoo search (CS), bat algorithm (BA), and Harris Hawk Optimization (HHO)) using eleven popular intrusion detection datasets (CICIDS2017, CSE-CIC-IDS2018, CICDDOS2019, CIRA-CIC-DoH, Intrusion detection 2018, UNSW-NB15, NSL-KDD, Phishing Legitimate, Malmem2022, IoT, and LUFlow Network) to Detect IoT Botnet Attacks. Moreover, EOSSA was compared with four machine learning algorithms (Decision Tree (DT), logistic regression (LR), Naive Bayes (NB), and K-Nearest Neighborhood (KNN)). The overall simulation results suggested that the proposed method is superior to the other algorithms in terms of the accuracy and number of selected features. In response to the problem that it is easy to fall into local optimum when using the traditional clustering algorithm to divide the modules, this paper improves the initialisation strategy of the NSGA2 algorithm and combines it with the FCM algorithm to propose an improved NSGA2-FCM algorithm for clustering analysis. Firstly, the FBS mapping is used to model the functional structure of the product system and identify the relationship between the product functional structures. Secondly, a correlation synthesis matrix is constructed based on the relationships between the module division drivers. Finally, the improved NSGA2-FCM algorithm is applied to cluster analysis of the product to derive the best module division scheme. The algorithm avoids falling into local optima by optimising the initialisation strategy of the NSGA2 algorithm, while using the FCM algorithm to improve the accuracy of the clustering. This allows the algorithm to explore the solution space more effectively when finding the best module partitioning solution. Differential evolution (DE) has been applied to solve various optimization problems due to its simplicity and high search efficiency. However, researchers have confirmed that it still has some shortcomings such as premature convergence and slow convergence, especially when dealing with complex optimization problems. To address these concerning issues, this paper proposes a hybrid particle swarm-differential evolution algorithm (HPSDE). Firstly, to enhance the optimization performance, a modified updating scheme named particle-swarm mutation strategy is designed and an improved control parameters adaption is developed. Then, DE/rand-to-rand/1 mutation strategy is adopted to increase the population diversity and enhance the ability of particles escaping away from local optima. To achieve an improved DE variant with rapid convergence and fine stability, a random mutation framework is designed to combine the two mutation strategies mentioned above. To evaluate the efficiency of HPSDE algorithm, four different experiments have been taken on twenty-nine benchmark functions. The numerical results validate that HPSDE has better overall performance than the other competitors. Meta-heuristics have been successfully applied to many complex optimization problems. One of the main reasons for its success is its ability to handle non-convex, nonlinear, multimodal, multi-variable, and multi-objective problems with easy implementation. However, the quality of the response of these algorithms to an optimization problem is highly susceptible to the control parameters, and few works aim to tune them or find tools that can improve the algorithms. The literature is rich in proposals for new algorithms, but not for improving existing ones. This paper presents different strategies for tuning and accelerating meta-heuristics using the first hybrid algorithm in the literature. The Lichtenberg algorithm is inspired by lightning and Lichtenberg figures and has been increasingly successfully applied to various optimization problems. However, a study of its best parameters has never been presented until now. After a discussion of the best tuning tools, its tuning parameters are performed using response surface methodology. Then, 14 versions are studied through 10 test functions using chaos theory and Lévy flights scenarios. After 13,500 simulations, the chaotic Lichtenberg algorithm equipped with the piecewise function and tuned parameters proved the best version with only 16% similarity to the original algorithm. Then, it was compared to the genetic algorithm, particle swarm optimization, gray wolf optimizer, salp swarm optimization, whale optimization algorithm, and dragonfly algorithm. Nodes localization has been a critical subject in wireless sensor network (WSN) field. As far as existing localization algorithms are concerned, distance vector hop (DV-Hop) has the advantages of no extra hardware and implementation simplicity, however its localization accuracy cannot meet some specific requirements. In order to enhance the accuracy of WSN nodes localization, a DV-Hop based localization algorithm based on nodes negotiation and multi communication radii (NNMCR DV-Hop) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the hop counts between WSN nodes is modified from an integer to a decimal by changing communication radius of anchor nodes through nodes negotiation. By refining the hop counts, the accuracy of the estimated distance from the unknown to the anchor nodes is improved. Secondly, the calculation of the average hop size of the anchor node is abstracted into a combinatorial optimization problem which is solved by using binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) to improve the accuracy of the estimated distance which is between the anchor and the unknown node. Finally, when calculating the coordinates of unknown nodes, only the anchor nodes with smaller hop counts are selected to participate in the calculation. Simulation experiments show that compared with the original DV-Hop as well as other improved algorithms based on DV-Hop, NNMCR DV-Hop greatly improves the localization accuracy of unknown nodes without additional hardware. In recent years, the cuckoo search (CS) algorithm has been successfully applied to single-objective optimization problems. But in real life, most optimization problems are multi-objective optimization problems (MOPs). In order to enable CS to better solve MOPs, this paper proposes an elite-guided multi-objective cuckoo search algorithm based on cross-operation and information enhancement (CIE-MOCS). This algorithm first enhances its population diversity through crossover operation, then adds elite individuals to guide its update process to speed up the algorithm convergence speed. Finally, the method of information enhancement is adopted in the abandonment process, so that the algorithm is not easy to fall into the local optimum. In order to verify the performance of the algorithm, this paper uses a variety of benchmark functions and performance evaluation indicators to evaluate it, and provides a case to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm in practical applications. The marine predators algorithm (MPA) is a metaheuristic algorithm for solving optimization problems. MPA divides the whole optimization process into three phases evenly, and each phase corresponds to a different search agent update strategy. Such a setup makes MPA inflexible when facing different optimization problems, which affects the optimization performance. In this paper, we propose a novel modified MPA hybridizing by Q-learning (QMPA), which applies reinforcement learning to the selection of update strategy, and selects the most appropriate position update strategy for search agents in different iteration stages and states. It can effectively compensate for the deficiency of MPA's adaptive ability when facing different optimization problems. The performance of QMPA is tested on classical benchmark functions, the CEC2014 test suite, and engineering problems. In the classical benchmark functions test, QMPA is compared with MPA in 10, 30, and 50 dimensions. QMPA performs better than MPA for seven of the ten functions when the dimension is 10 and 30. The results of dimension 50 show that QMPA outperforms MPA in 5 functions and is close to it in 4 functions. Then, comparing QMPA with algorithms such as grey wolf optimizer, particle swarm optimization, slime mould algorithm, sine cosine algorithm, reptile search algorithm, and aquila optimizer, the results show that QMPA has the best performance on 22 of the total 30 functions in the CEC2014 test suite. Wireless Sensor Networks are booming with the development of computer technology, network communication technology, and sensor technology. However, the question of how to use fewer nodes to achieve maximum coverage still exists. In this paper, a two-layer Surrogate-Assisted Phasmatodea Population Evolution (SAPPE) is proposed for 3D coverage of wireless sensors by combining the characteristics of meta-heuristic algorithms and surrogate models. In this algorithm, Radial Basis Function Networks are used to construct the surrogate model, and the two surrogate models are global surrogate-assisted and local surrogate-assisted, respectively. The global-surrogate model is used to smooth the fitness function, and the local surrogate-assisted model is used to find the optimal value accurately. They use the same archive DataBase (DB) to store particle positions and true fitness values. However, the number of particles involved in the creation of the surrogate-assisted model is different. Seven benchmark functions are used to test and analyze the algorithm, and the results show that the algorithm has good performance. Also, the algorithm verified the significance of the algorithm using Wilcoxon rank test. The result shows that the proposed algorithm is effective compared with PPE, PSO, PPSO, FMO, and BA. This paper compares the number of nodes and coverage radius using different algorithms to ensure maximum coverage. Numerous studies on project scheduling only consider a single factor, which fails to reflect the actual environment of project operations. In light of this issue, the article synthesizes multiple perspectives and proposes a multi-skill resource-based multi-modal project scheduling problem (MRCMPSP). This problem is described, modeled, and solved using the resource capability matrix and other constraints to minimize the project duration. To effectively solve MRCMPSP and enrich scheduling algorithms, the paper selects the hybrid quantum algorithm (HQPSO) based on the quantum particle swarm algorithm (QPSO). The HQPSO introduces various improvements such as the JAYA optimization search to improve the algorithm's performance. In order to verify the generality, superiority, and effectiveness of the algorithm, independent operation comparison experiments and practical application experiments of the algorithm are designed based on different case sizes and resource quantities. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has superior convergence performance and solution accuracy and can provide an effective scheduling solution for real cases. In this paper, we study numerical solution of ruin probability of continuous time model. We develop an effective optimal adaptive particle swarm optimization-triangular neural network (PSO-TNN), which consists of three parts: particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) improved trigonometric function, extreme learning machine algorithm with initial conditions (IELM) and improved reduction algorithm. The results obtained that PSO-TNN is superior to triangular neural network (TNN) and physics-informed neural networks (PINNs), and PSO is superior to Aquila Optimizer (AO), Smell Agent Optimization (SAO), African vultures optimization algorithm (AVOA), Arithmetic optimization algorithm (AOA) in the optimization of neural network. In the field of data exchange, the security of information is the critical aspect. This void in the security helped the evolution of steganography to address the problem of security, especially when highly critical information exchange is the priority. Better and advanced level of security has been attained using the techniques of steganography with cryptography. However, it has been observed that steganographic techniques principled on computationally intelligent or inspired by nature algorithms are gaining much attention. The paper proposes a method for image steganography in transform domain using hybridization of two computationally intelligent algorithms, i.e., firefly optimization algorithm and ant colony optimization algorithm with Huffman encoding to address the gap of high payload. In response to the problem that it is easy to fall into local optimum when using the traditional clustering algorithm to divide the modules, this paper improves the initialisation strategy of the NSGA2 algorithm and combines it with the FCM algorithm to propose an improved NSGA2-FCM algorithm for clustering analysis. Firstly, the FBS mapping is used to model the functional structure of the product system and identify the relationship between the product functional structures. Secondly, a correlation synthesis matrix is constructed based on the relationships between the module division drivers. Finally, the improved NSGA2-FCM algorithm is applied to cluster analysis of the product to derive the best module division scheme. The algorithm avoids falling into local optima by optimising the initialisation strategy of the NSGA2 algorithm, while using the FCM algorithm to improve the accuracy of the clustering. Wireless Ad hoc networks (WANETs) and Mobile Ad hoc networks are infrastructures less network structures made of energy-constrained nodes. These networks need to reduce their energy consumption for longer network lifetime. Clustering nodes play a vital role in WANETs to identify unattended nodes with a limited power source. Cluster Based Routing Protocols (CBRPs) in WANETs can help in minimizing the energy costs during the passing of messages. Many CBRPs have been proposed, but most of the existing approaches have their own limitations due to their Cluster Heads (CHs) workloads. This paper attempts to overcome this limitation by proposing Energy Efficient Weight Based Clustering Algorithm (EEWCA) scheme. In this approach, weights of nodes are assessed using links between nodes in terms of node stability; node neighborhoods; energy consumptions; distance between nodes, node densities, and residual energies. The proposed CH selections framework is based on preventing dead CHs when their power falls below a range by choosing an alternative cluster node as CH. Adaptive particle swarm optimization (APSO) is formulated with Ad hoc On-demand distance vector (AODV) for detecting breakages in links by assessing node energies, densities, and reduced overheads. The proposed EEWCA model is simulated on NS2 simulator and its efficiency is evaluated with different performance metrics by using 20 to 200 nodes in simulations. The main objective of this paper is to present an improved neural network algorithm (INNA) for solving the reliability-redundancy allocation problem (RRAP) with nonlinear resource constraints. In this RRAP, both the component reliability and the redundancy allocation are to be considered simultaneously. Neural network algorithm (NNA) is one of the newest and efficient swarm optimization algorithms having a strong global search ability that is very adequate in solving different kinds of complex optimization problems. Despite its efficiency, NNA experiences poor exploitation, which causes slow convergence and also restricts its practical application of solving optimization problems. Considering this deficiency and to obtain a better balance between exploration and exploitation, searching procedure for NNA is reconstructed by implementing a new logarithmic spiral search operator and the searching strategy of the learner phase of teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO) and an improved NNA has been developed in this paper. To demonstrate the performance of INNA, it is evaluated against seven well-known reliability optimization problems and finally compared with other existing meta-heuristics algorithms. Academic institutions may be edging towards a global uncertainty, recession, and a string of financial difficulties. An effective course timetabling is one of managerial strategies to optimise the operating costs and resource utilisation. This paper presents the first application of firefly algorithm (FA) and its modifications and hybridisations for solving real-world course timetabling problem. A novel bi-objective firefly algorithm (BOFA) with Pareto dominance approach was developed for optimising the operating costs and resource utilisation. Random key technique was applied for adapting the continuous firefly movement to solve discrete timetabling problem. Five constructive heuristics were additionally embedded into the BOFA for initialising feasible timetables. Computational experiments were sequentially conducted using eleven problem instances obtained from a collaborating university. It was found that the proposed hybridisation outperformed particle swarm optimisation, the classical FA, and modified FA (MFA), in terms of the quality of the timetables obtained, computational times and convergent speed. This paper suggests the optimized squared-off cascades (SOCs) with a certain number of gas centrifuges (GCs) to separate stable isotopes, such as the lightest and heaviest isotopes of molybdenum (100Mo and 92Mo) up to 99.9% richness, using the particle swarm optimization (PSO), the whale optimization algorithm (WOA), and the dragonfly algorithm (DA). To do this, the SOC-PSO, SOC-WOA, and SOC-DA codes are developed to optimize the parameters of SOCs. Then the performances of these codes in optimizing SOCs for separating each of 92Mo and 100Mo isotopes are compared based on the recovery factor, the feed intake, and the amount of production with the use of 120 gas centrifuges. The recovery coefficients of SOCs for 92Mo and 100Mo isotopes obtained by the SOC-PSO code are 82 and 80%, respectively. Finally, the performances of the PSO, WOA, and DA algorithms in optimizing SOCs for each of light and heavy isotopes are compared, and a higher efficiency of the PSO algorithm is revealed. The use of natural galvanized techniques has been found to provide machine solutions to complex problems. One of the challenging issues among researchers is high-dimensional data which contains a large number of unwanted, redundant, and irrelevant features. These redundant or unwanted features reduce the accuracy of machine learning models. Therefore, to solve this problem nowadays metaheuristic techniques are being used. The paper presents both surveys as well as comparison of five metaheuristic algorithms for feature selection. A wrapper-based feature selection approach using five nature-inspired techniques for feature selection has been applied. The binary version of the five swarm-based nature-inspired algorithms (NIAs), namely particle swarm optimization, whale optimization algorithm (WOA), grey wolf optimization (GWO), firefly algorithm, and bat algorithm. WOA and GWO are recent algorithms used for finding optimal feature subsets when there is no empirical information. The S-shape transfer function has been used to convert the continuous value to binary form and K-nearest neighbor is used to calculate the classification accuracy of selected feature subsets. To validate the results of the selected NIAs eleven benchmark datasets from the UCI repository are used. The evolutionary game theory aims to simulate different decision strategies in populations of individuals and to determine how the population evolves. Compared to strategies between two agents, such as cooperation or noncooperation, strategies on multiple agents are rather challenging and difficult to be simulated via traditional methods. Particularly, in a knowledge spillover problem (KSP), cooperation strategies among more than hundreds of individuals need to be simulated. At the same time, the brain storm optimization (BSO) algorithm, which is a data-driven and model-driven hybrid paradigm, has the potential to simulate the complex behaviors in a group of simple individuals. In this paper, a modified BSO algorithm has been used to solve KSP from the perspective of evolutionary game theory. Knowledge spillover (KS) is the sharing or exchanging of knowledge resources among individuals. Firstly, the KS and evolutionary game theory were introduced. Then, the KS model and KS optimization problems were built from the evolutionary game perspective. Lastly, the modified BSO algorithms were utilized to solve KS optimization problems. Based on the applications of BSO algorithms for KSP, the properties of different swarm optimization algorithms can be understood better. This paper proposes the multi-objective variant of the recently-introduced fitness dependent optimizer (FDO). The algorithm is called a multi-objective fitness dependent optimizer (MOFDO) and is equipped with all five types of knowledge (situational, normative, topographical, domain, and historical knowledge) as in FDO. MOFDO is tested on two standard benchmarks for the performance-proof purpose: classical ZDT test functions, which is a widespread test suite that takes its name from its authors Zitzler, Deb, and Thiele, and on IEEE Congress of Evolutionary Computation benchmark (CEC-2019) multi-modal multi-objective functions. MOFDO results are compared to the latest variant of multi-objective particle swarm optimization, non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm third improvement (NSGA-III), and multi-objective dragonfly algorithm. The comparative study shows the superiority of MOFDO in most cases and comparative results in other cases. Discovering a hearing disorder at an earlier intervention is critical for reducing the effects of hearing loss and the approaches to increase the remaining hearing ability can be implemented to achieve the successful development of human communication. Recently, the explosive dataset features have increased the complexity for audiologists to decide the proper treatment for the patient. In most cases, data with irrelevant features and improper classifier parameters causes a crucial influence on the audiometry system in terms of accuracy. This is due to the dependent processes of these two, where the classification accuracy performance could be worsened if both processes are conducted independently. Although the filter algorithm is capable of eliminating irrelevant features, it still lacks the ability to consider feature reliance and results in a poor selection of significant features. Improper kernel parameter settings may also contribute to poor accuracy performance. In this paper, an ensemble filters feature selection based on Information Gain (IG), Gain Ratio (GR), Chi-squared (CS), and Relief-F (RF) with harmonize optimization of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) is presented to mitigate these problems. Ensemble filters are utilized so that the initial top dominant features relevant for classification can be considered. Then, PSO and SVM are optimized simultaneously to achieve the optimal solution. The results on a standard Audiology dataset show that the proposed method produces 96.50% accuracy with optimal solution compared to classical SVM, which signifies the proposed method is effective in handling high dimensional data for hearing disorder prediction. Path planning of drones in an area with complex terrain or unknown environment and restricted by some obstacles is one of the most problems facing the operation of drones. The problem of path planning is not only limited to searching for an appropriate path from the starting point to the destination but also related to how to choose an ideal path among all available paths and provide a mechanism for collision avoidance. By considering how to construct the best path, several related issues need to be taken into account, that relate to safety, obstacle avoidance, response speed to overtake obstacles, etc. Swarm optimization algorithms have been used to provide intelligent modeling for drone path planning and enable to build the best path for each drone. This is done according to the planning and coordination dimensions among the swarm members. In this paper, we have discussed the features and characteristics of different swarm optimization algorithms such as ant colony optimization (ACO), fruit fly optimization algorithm (FOA), artificial bee colony (ABC), and particle swarm optimization (PSO). In addition, the paper provides a comprehensive summary related to the most important studies on drone path planning algorithms. We focused on analyzing the impact of the swarm algorithm and its performance in drone path planning. For that, the paper presented one of the most used algorithms and its models employed to improve the trajectory of drones that rely on swarm intelligence and its impact on the optimal path cost of drones. In the lung computer-aided detection (Lung CAD) system, the region of interest (ROI) of lung nodules has more false positives, making the imbalance between positive and negative (true positive and false positive) samples more likely to lead to misclassification of true positive nodules, a cost-sensitive multikernel learning support vector machine (CS-MKL-SVM) algorithm is proposed. Different penalty coefficients are assigned to positive and negative samples, so that the model can better learn the features of true positive nodules and improve the classification effect. To further improve the detection rate of pulmonary nodules and overall recognition accuracy, a score function named F-new based on the harmonic mean of accuracy (ACC) and sensitivity (SEN) is proposed as a fitness function for subsequent particle swarm optimization (PSO) parameter optimization, and a feasibility analysis of this function is performed. Compared with the fitness function that considers only accuracy or sensitivity, both the detection rate and the recognition accuracy of pulmonary nodules can be improved by this new algorithm. Compared with the grid search algorithm, using PSO for parameter search can reduce the model training time by nearly 20 times and achieve rapid parameter optimization. The maximum F-new obtained on the test set is 0.9357 for the proposed algorithm. When the maximum value of F-new is achieved, the corresponding recognition ACC is 91%, and SEN is 96.3%. Compared with the radial basis function in the single kernel, the F-new of the algorithm in this paper is 2.16% higher, ACC is 1.00% higher and SEN is equal. Compared with the polynomial kernel function in the single kernel, the F-new of the algorithm is 3.64% higher, ACC is 1.00% higher and SEN is 7.41% higher. The experimental results show that the F-new, ACC and SEN of the proposed algorithm is the best among them, and the results obtained by using multikernel function combined with F-new index are better than the single kernel function. Compared with the MKL-SVM algorithm of grid search, the ACC of the algorithm in this paper is reduced by 1%, and the results are equal to those of the MKL-SVM algorithm based on PSO only. Compared with the above two algorithms, SEN is increased by 3.71% and 7.41%, respectively. Therefore, it can be seen that the cost sensitive method can effectively reduce the missed detection of nodules, and the availability of the new algorithm can be further verified. This paper presents a reliable algorithm for solving the inverse kinematic (IK) problem of continuum robots. Admittedly, there are an infinite number of configurations to get the robot's end point (EP) pose. Therefore, the proposed algorithm introduces a new solution that helps narrow the infinite number of the IK solutions down to a finite one by taking into account the first (n - 1) sections' sets of reachable EP poses, which are selected and created one-by-one from the first to (n - 1) th section, in which the Particle Swarm Optimization method is adopted to randomly pick up the first IK solution. However, a specific criterion has been accorded to select the appropriate IK solution (i.e., redundancy resolution) among the existing varieties that perfectly fits within the targeted trajectory. Furthermore, numerical experiments are performed on a Cable-Driven Continuum Robot for tracking a trajectory in a free and confined environment, pointing up on IK, multiple IK solutions and redundancy resolution. The obtained results demonstrated that the proposed algorithm is computationally accurate and efficient in obtaining all-inclusive IK solutions and redundancy resolution of continuum robots in comparison to previously proposed approaches. The wireless sensor network is a collection of diverse sensor nodes in which data is communicated via physical sensors and relayed using self-configured protocols. The network becomes congested because myriad nodes are involved in the sensing and data transmission. Congestion decreases the packet delivery ratio (PDR) virtue of significant packet drop and increases transmission delay. The lost packets are retransmitted at the cost of additional energy and time, which provokes the reduction in network performance and the extravagance of energy resources. Traditional techniques for congestion control are inflexible and lack adaptive capability. To overcome these constraints, this paper proposes a PFP-PID controller (Progressive Fuzzy Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) Proportional Integral Derivative (PID)). The initial position of the reference particle is determined using fuzzy logic, which accelerates PSO convergence by escaping numerous initial iterations. Additionally, this hybrid mechanism based on PSO and fuzzy logic controller is employed to generate the ideal PID controller design with rapid convergence, resulting in an optimized transmission rate for sensor nodes. The PFP-PID is implemented to alleviate congestion by simulating it in network simulator (NS3) and comparing it to cuckoo fuzzy PID (CFPID), PSO-neural PID, fuzzy-PID, and traditional PID. The simulation results demonstrate that the PFP-PID is scalable and has outclassed existing mechanisms and significantly improved performance, increasing PDR by 4.89%, minimizing packet drop, delay, and active queue length deviation by 36.83%, 25.32%, and 10.84%, respectively, against CFPID. Because of the low accuracy in intrusion detection, a model of extreme learning machine based on the optimization of quantum beetle swarm algorithm is proposed. First of all, this paper proposes a quantum beetle swarm optimization algorithm, which introduces quantum mechanics and combines the advantages of beetle antennae search and particle swarm optimization. In this way, the individual can learn both their own experience and group experience, which enables the beetle to move purposefully and instructively, and improves the convergence performance of the algorithm. In this paper, the hybrid combination of genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization (GAPSO) is used to optimize the phase distribution (PD) of beam-scanning reflectarray. The GAPSO takes advantage of both conventional algorithms and it could cover their weaknesses. Two novel PDs are proposed in this paper which constant phase elements (CPEs) and ordinary elements (OEs) are two basic kinds of elements used in them. The phases of CPEs are fixed and it is not changed during beam scanning and only OEs' phase could be adjusted to scan the main beam. In this work GAPSO and two novel PDs are applied to array factor's PD of a 30 × 30 reflectarray antenna to displace the main beam electronically in the vertical plane from − 40° to 40°. Also, in these two novel PDs, 28.8% of total elements are selected as CPEs. In the first one with only CPEs, the phase of OEs (71.2% of total elements) could adjust, but in the second novel PD with CPEs and phase symmetry plane 35.5% of the total elements' phase could be changed to scan the beam. Clustering and classification-based pattern recognition techniques are widely used in various domains. While many approaches exist to perform these tasks, it remains a difficult process to perform clustering and classification simultaneously for particular datasets. In this paper, a method based on k-nearest neighbor (KNN) is presented to classify the dataset with PSO optimized k-medoids clustering. Initial clustering with k-medoids algorithm divides the dataset into smaller and disjoint clusters featuring similarity within clusters and dissimilarity with members of other clusters. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is an evolutionary algorithm mainly used to optimize the issues in several research areas including data analytics. The fitness function of the PSO approach mentioned in this paper is based on inertia weights that identify the particles with the best positions and velocities for optimization. Additionally, PSO uses a novel elitism concept that allows massive searching capability between the swarm of particles to achieve a better convergence rate. Because of this property, it can be applied throughout different machine learning fields. Moreover, the KNN classifier outperforms the classification task in terms of classifying the optimized particles with high accuracy. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated by experimenting with datasets taken from open sources. Designing invisibility cloaks has always been one of the most fascinating fields of research; in this regard, metasurface-based carpet cloaks have drawn researchers' attention due to their inherent tenuousness, resulting in a lower loss and easier fabrication. However, their performances are dependent on the incident angle of the coming wave; as a result, designing a carpet cloak capable of rendering objects under it invisible for a wide range of angles requires advanced methods. In this paper, using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, along with a trained neural network, a metasurface-based carpet cloak is developed capable to operate for a wide range of incident angles. The deep neural network is trained and used in order to accelerate the process of calculation of reflection phases provided by different unit cell designs. The resultant carpet cloak is numerically analyzed, and its response is presented and discussed. Internet of Things (IoT) networks are becoming increasingly popular for monitoring critical environments of various types. For the communication of IoT devices, several lightweight protocols have been developed. MQTT (message queuing telemetry transport) is a widely used messaging protocol in IoT using the publish–subscribe technique. The openness of publish–subscribe model and the limited built-in authentication capabilities makes it vulnerable to intruders. Hence, an intrusion detection system (IDS) has a vital role in MQTT-IoT security. This paper proposes an efficient intrusion detection mechanism for the MQTT-IoT networks using an enhanced chaotic salp swarm optimization algorithm (ECSSA) and LightGBM classifier. Traditional IDS uses a lot of irrelevant data and undesirable attributes, resulting in long detection times and low performance. To overcome the limitations, the proposed IDS uses ECSSA for feature selection and LightGBM classifier for better detection accuracy. The experimental verification on MC-IoT, MQTT-IoT-IDS2020, and MQTTset datasets demonstrates that ECSSA and LightGBM improve the overall accuracy rate. The proposed technique outperforms the existing approaches with an accuracy of 99.38%, 98.91%, and 98.35% in the three test sets, MC-IoT, MQTT-IoT-IDS2020, and MQTTset, respectively. As environmental concerns have grown, the combined economic emission dispatch (CEED) problem has gotten a lot of attention. Both the cost of fuel and the emission pollution caused by it must be kept to a minimum. As a result, this paper presents an innovative hybrid approach (ihPSODE) for solving CEED problems. This hybrid technique incorporated novel differential evolution (nDE) and particle swarm optimization (nPSO). Where nDE introduces an improved mutation and crossover approach (to prevent untimely convergence) as well as nPSO introduces a new acceleration coefficient, inertia weight and position improve equation (to alleviate the stagnation). So as to balance among local and global search ability, after ihPSODE population evaluation, the best half individuals are determined and the rest individuals are discarded. Then, nPSO is used in the current population (to sustain exploration and exploitation) and nDE is employed in the nPSO generated population (to improve convergence accuracy). The competence of the proposed algorithms (ihPSODE, nPSO and nDE) is inspected on 23 unconstrained benchmark function and then solved 3 test system (3-, 6- and 40-unit) of economic load dispatch (ELD) and 3 test system (3-, 10- and 40-unit) of CEED problem. The simulation-random statistics (SRS) method is one of the effective approaches to solving groundwater contamination source identification (GCSI) challenges. In this paper, we applied a heuristic search iterative process (HSIP) based on SRS to provide interval estimation and probability distribution for an unknown variable to enhance our understanding of the unknown variable. Posterior distribution has been a subject of interest in HSIP; therefore, it is imperative to update prior distributions using final iterations obtained from posterior distributions, which has been seldom considered in previous research. This paper first proposed such updates and subsequently designed an updating HSIP (UHSIP). This paper first proposed a feedback correction step and incorporated it into UHSIP to achieve feedback improvements and simultaneous updates of an unknown variable and prior distribution. In UHSIP, a surrogate system such as extreme learning machine (ELM) is usually established for a numerical simulation model to reduce computational cost. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm has been demonstrated to optimize input weights and hidden layer biases in ELM. However, the PSO algorithm is prone to premature convergence and its calculation accuracy does not satisfy precision requirements when optimizing complex functions. To enhance accuracy, this paper first proposed a new adaptive chaotic PSO (ACPSO) algorithm to establish ACPSO–ELM surrogate system. The two newly proposed approaches were tested in two case studies based on groundwater inorganic and organic contaminations. Results reveal that UHSIP can effectively enhance identification accuracy, and ACPSO–ELM surrogate system has a higher approximation accuracy to the simulation model than PSO–ELM. To ensure that the unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) can still successfully complete the corresponding tasks in the case of thrusters having faults, a novel fault-tolerant control strategy which combines the model predictive control (MPC) algorithm and the fault-tolerant reconstruction algorithm is presented in this paper. Firstly, a cascade control method based on model predictive control algorithm is introduced, and then the problem when the thrusters in the faulty condition are discussed. For different degrees of thruster fault, the method of weighted pseudo inverse and quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) is used for hybrid fault-tolerant control (FTC). At the same time, to overcome the limitations brought by the pseudo inverse reconstruction algorithm, an optimization criterion with the infinite norm as the cost function is introduced into the QPSO algorithm to accelerate the search for the optimal solution in the feasibility space so as to ensure the feasibility of the solution. The simulation results show that the fault-tolerant control method proposed based on MPC (FTC-MPC) in this paper can provide ideal control effects for the unmanned underwater vehicles. The basic fuzzy neural network algorithm has slow convergence and large amount of calculation, so this paper designed a particle swarm optimization trained fuzzy neural network algorithm to solve this problem. Traditional particle swarm optimization is easy to fall into local extremes and has low efficiency, this paper designed new update rules for inertia weight and learning factors to overcome these problems. We also designed training rules for the improved particle swarm optimization to train fuzzy neural network, and the hybrid algorithm is applied to solve the path planning problem of intelligent driving vehicles. Wireless powered communication network (WPCN) is a promising technique to resolve the power constraint issue faced by wireless nodes at the same time it also provides green and a safer solution. This paper studies, mutual sharing between WPCN and simultaneous wireless information and power transfer model where optimal resource allocation occurs between licensed/bandwidth group and an unlicensed/power group to enhance the system performance. The main aim of this paper is to maximize system weighted sum rate and minimize power consumption during transmission by optimal time allocation and energy beamforming vector allocation. These multiobjective combinatorial problems are solved using joint metaheuristic particle swarm optimization-cuckoo search algorithm to provide an optimal solution. The results are compared using a conventional mathematical optimization algorithm to set as a baseline for performance parameters. The obtained results demonstrate that the efficient joint metaheuristic approach provides a significant gain in the system performance and also offers a computationally less complex approach for solving a complicated non-convex multiobjective problem of wireless powered network. A key area of wireless communications is visible light communication which uses solid-state light-emitting-diode. This paper shows, a comparative study to optimize the received signal strength indication (RSSI) in the optical wireless link between two optimization algorithms. The optimization algorithm we used in the paper is a genetic algorithm (GA) and a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. To, compute the maximum RSSI over the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) link, within an indoor environment, and to find the optimum NLOS route through distinct angles to achieve better communication quality, we have used those algorithms. Simulations were performed at matlab to check the feasibility of the scheme proposed. Also, we have compared the efficiency of the both system. In addition, GA and PSO detect the maximum RSSI of the receiver (Rx) in a specific direction instead of calculating RSSI at any random angle. The simulation result shows that the proposed system precisely detects the direction that provides an optimal RSSI for the Rx. This paper concludes that the GA is computationally effective while compared with PSO. After several iterations, the result estimates that the average elapsed time of the GA is 0.21 ms and the PSO is 30 ms, respectively. In the case of user positions 1 and 2, the percentage enhancement for GA as compared to PSO is almost 4.2% and 12.5% respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
