Printed electronic paper identifies its interest in flexible organic electronics and sustainable and clean energy applications because of its straightforward production method, cost‐effectiveness, and positive environmental impact. However, current limitations include restricted material thickness and the use of supporting substrate for printing. Here, 2D and 3D electronic patterned paper are fabricated from direct ink writing (DIW) nanocellulose and PEDOT:PSS‐based materials using syringe deposition and 3D printing. The conductor patterns are integrated in the bulk of the paper, while non‐conductive sections are used as support to form free‐standing paper. The strong interface between the patterns of electronic patterned paper gives mechanical stability for practical handling. The conductive paper‐based electrode has 202 S cm−1 and is capable of handling electric current up to 0.7 A, which can be used for high‐power devices. Printed supercapacitor papers show high specific energy of 4.05 Wh kg−1, specific power of 4615 W kg−1 at 0.06 A g−1, and capacitance retention above 95% after 2000 cycles. The new design structure of electronic patterned papers presents a solution for additive manufacturing of paper‐based composites for supercapacitors, wearable electronics, or sensors for smart packaging. Forecasting has extreme importance in industry due to the numerous competitive advantages that it provides, allowing to foresee what might happen and adjust management decisions accordingly. Industries increasingly use sensors, which allow for large-scale data collection. Big datasets enable training, testing and application of complex predictive algorithms based on machine learning models. The present paper focuses on predicting values from sensors installed on a pulp paper press, using data collected over three years. The variables analyzed are electric current, pressure, temperature, torque, oil level and velocity. The results of XGBoost and artificial neural networks, with different feature vectors, are compared. They show that it is possible to predict sensor data in the long term and thus predict the asset's behaviour several days in advance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The XY model of oil‐paper insulation connects the dielectric properties of oil, paper and oil‐paper system. Its equivalent circuit is the basis of the application of dielectric response technology in the state diagnosis of transformer oil‐paper insulation. To better apply the XY model to the study of the dielectric properties of oil‐paper insulation, the dielectric properties of the coaxial oil‐paper insulation system built in the laboratory, XY model and its equivalent circuits are compared. Then an improved circuit of XY model which can reflect the properties of the oil‐paper insulation more truly is proposed. The results show that there is no difference between the XY model and the coaxial model, and both can well characterize the oil‐paper insulation system. The two equivalent circuits of XY model, "Series to Parallel" circuit and "Parallel to Series" circuit, ignore the current tangential component and the electric field distortion in oil‐paper insulation, respectively, resulting in deviations from the XY model. By introducing a new branch C*XY, the improved circuit can reflect the tangential current and electric field distortion in oil‐paper insulation, which can be completely equivalent to XY model. In addition, there is a characteristic frequency point in the oil‐paper insulation system, where the dielectric loss factor tan δ of oil, paper and oil‐paper system are the same. There is no difference between the XY model and its two equivalent circuits at this point. Polyurethanes have been extensively studied for their strong electromechanical response. Previous studies have mainly investigated the impact of electrical charges on these polymers' DC conductivity, which was measured on the order of 10−10 S/m. The movement of electric charges is responsible for the macroscopic deformation of polymer films under an electric field. However, this study focused primarily on electric fields below 107 V/m, where the electric current complies with Ohm's law. In this paper, we examine the electric current above this field value and observe a deviation in the current from linearity with the applied field, especially for a high electric field of 106–107 V/m. This change is known in polymers under high electric fields but has never been observed in polyurethane. This suggests the injection of electrode charges into the polymer material. Background: Transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) generates an electric field (or current density) in the brain through surface electrodes attached to the scalp. Clinical significance has been demonstrated, although with moderate and heterogeneous results partly due to a lack of control of the delivered electric currents. In the last decade, computational electric field analysis has allowed the estimation and optimization of the electric field using accurate anatomical head models. This review examines recent tES computational studies, providing a comprehensive background on the technical aspects of adopting computational electric field analysis as a standardized procedure in medical applications. Methods: Specific search strategies were designed to retrieve papers from the Web of Science database. The papers were initially screened based on the soundness of the title and abstract and then on their full contents, resulting in a total of 57 studies. Results: Recent trends were identified in individual- and population-level analysis of the electric field, including head models from non-neurotypical individuals. Advanced optimization techniques that allow a high degree of control with the required focality and direction of the electric field were also summarized. There is also growing evidence of a correlation between the computationally estimated electric field and the observed responses in real experiments. Conclusions: Computational pipelines and optimization algorithms have reached a degree of maturity that provides a rationale to improve tES experimental design and a posteriori analysis of the responses for supporting clinical studies. The oil-paper insulation in a transformer gradually ages due to the combined effects of thermal and electrical stress that occur during its operation. In this paper, for investigating the changes that occur within the oil-paper during the aging process with different aging stresses, partial discharge (PD) characteristics and trap parameters are measured. An internal discharge cavity model is designed for the electrical stress, and the thermal stress is generated by a baking oven simultaneously. The experiments are designed such that the dominant factor on the aging process is either thermal, electrical, or a unity of both stress factors. The phase resolved partial discharge (PRPD) spectrograms are recorded at different aging time, and the trap parameters are extracted by thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) method. Additionally, the surface morphologies of these samples are observed by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results show that the trap energy presents a decreasing tendency when the electrical stress plays the dominant role, and the discharge energy becomes larger over the aging time until pre-breakdown. When the thermal stress dominates the aging process, the trap energy shows an increasing tendency over the aging time, and there exists a process of ‘material conditioning’ that occurs at the initial stage of the aging process. The change of trap parameters in aged oil-paper will further affect PD characteristics. A paper microfluidic fuel cell was developed that is powered by urea and compares favorably to recent literature reports of paper microfluidic fuel cells. During fuel cell testing, we found the maximum power density to be as high as 0.91 mW cm −2 and the maximum current density to be as high as 4.3 mA cm -2  at room temperature using 0.3 M urea as fuel. Under continuous reactant flow, the fuel cell voltage is stable for at least 1 h. Under stopped flow conditions, the voltage was stable for up to 20 min. When 3 fuel cells (using Ni anode) were connected in series, sufficient energy was produced to power the LCD screen of a paper-based, over-the-counter pregnancy test for at least 30 min. Since this fuel cell is constructed on paper, it does not require continuous flow of reactants as a micro-channeled microfluidic fuel cell would. Hence, it could be possible with this chemistry to integrate energy production with urinalysis on paper since human urine contains both urea (fuel) and hormones (analyte) to provide power and analyte simultaneously. A non-destructive method for detecting sub-micrometer-sized micropipes on an entire wafer surface is investigated. Since it is difficult to detect sub-micrometer-sized micropipes due to their small core size, a non-destructively and accurately detecting method is required. To solve the issue, we focus on a characteristic depression generated around micropipes, namely, line-shaped depressions. In this paper, the location of line-shaped depressions is identified by using optical inspection, and the line-shaped depressions are distinguished whether micropipes exhibit line-shaped depression or not by using mirror electron microscope observation as high-resolution inspection. The accuracy of the distinction results is confirmed by scanning electron microscope observation, and electrical characteristics of the P–N diode are fabricated using the inspected wafer. Furthermore, the sub-micrometer-sized micropipes are observed at the sites of leakage current identified by emission microscopy. Additionally, device simulation of the blocking-voltage characteristics of P–N diodes suggests that the increase in leakage current depends on the electric field at the sub-micrometer-sized micropipes, regardless of their core size. This paper presents a comprehensive review of mitigation approaches, with a specific focus on geometric modifications, to mitigate shaft voltage and bearing current in electric drives. While existing literature extensively covers inverter-based and coupling path-based methods, the potential of geometric modifications has been relatively underexplored. The geometric modification approach offers a cost-effective and weight-saving solution that can be incorporated during the early design phase of the machine. The review begins by outlining various mitigation techniques applied at the victim machine, including bearing insulation, ceramic ball bearings, shaft grounding, and more. Subsequently, it delves into the machine geometric modification approach, examining methods related to winding design, stator and rotor iron geometry, rotor surface insulation, and stator slot wedge modifications. The paper highlights the practical relevance of geometric modifications, emphasizing their advantages over conventional methods. The review paper aims to shed new light on the potential of geometric modifications in mitigating shaft voltage and bearing current in electric drives. By providing valuable insights into this approach, researchers and engineers can develop robust and efficient electric drive systems, advancing the field of electrical machine design and operation. Definition: In young Maxwell's eyes, electricity, magnetism and fluid mechanics present analogies that let the first be mathematically grasped in a unitary way similarly to the latter. This entry sketches the first steps of James Clerk Maxwell's unitary view of electromagnetism and fluid mechanics, with long-lasting effects on understanding the physical world. In his very first paper on the subject, Maxwell interpreted Faraday's concept of lines of force of both electricity and magnetism as filaments of a flowing fluid. That is, Maxwell suggested to unify the previously distinct fields of electricity and magnetism, considering them as different aspects of the same entity, the 'electromagnetic field', which is mathematically described by four partial differential equations. In the literature there are several comprehensive works on Maxwell's mature exposition of his theory; however, the aim of this entry contribution is rather more limited. Indeed, it is restricted to examining the contributions of Maxwell's first paper towards developing the idea of electric current as the motion of an incompressible fluid. Thus, this entry highlights the strong connections of Maxwell's epistemological view with the 'mechanistic' approach of the time to every aspect of physical phenomenology. This study focuses on developing multifunctional electronic paper (e-paper) using a low-cost recycling method to minimize the usage of critical raw materials. The e-paper is designed for various smart applications, such as mechano-responsive energy harvesters and pressure sensors. The emphasis is on adopting an eco-friendly approach by utilizing cellulose extracted from used newspapers, which would otherwise have been discarded. The formulated e-paper contains 100 % recycled cellulose fibers, unlike the more commonly used recycled paper, which contains around 70 % of recycled cellulose and 30 % of new pulp. The recycled paper (RP) was functionalized using polyaniline (PANi), resulting in a conductive e-paper, capable of generating electric current through a charge transfer mechanism at the PANi-Cellulose/electrode interface layer. The resulting devices demonstrate satisfactory energy production, with output voltage ranging from 16.8 to 20.25 V, output current ranging from 0.9 µA to 1.75 µA, and power density ranging from 0.18 to 0.35 Wm−2. The mechanical impulses generated by the device can successfully light up several LEDs in series. Additionally, the e-paper was investigated as a flexible, paper-based pressure sensor. The fabricated device exhibited excellent sensitivity, fast response time, and a wide detection range from 25 Pa to 12.25 kPa. The sensitivity of the pressure sensors achieved 4.21 kPa−1 within a low range of 0–1 kPa and approximately 0.008 kPa-1for a broader pressure range (2 – 12.25 kPa). Most flexible ionic tactile sensors can hardly be used in deep sea due to their poor antiswelling and anticompression properties under high hydrostatic pressure. To achieve pressure and position sensing under high hydrostatic pressure, a self‐powered underwater tactile sensor made of a porous thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film is presented in this paper. The sensor works by generating an electric current due to the different moving velocities of ions in the porous film under pressing. Experimental results show that the magnitude of the generated current signal increases with the applied pressure, the contacting area, and ion concentration of the solution. The direction and magnitude of the current signal depend on the pressing position of the film. The signal magnitude decreased with the closer to the center of the film. The maximum pressure sensitivity and positioning resolution are 0.62 kPa−1 and 1.31 mm respectively. Response time (0.19 s), 0.67 s recovery time, and 50–600 kPa pressure detection range are achieved. In addition, the signal magnitude is decreased only by 15.53% when the sensor is placed underwater at a simulated depth of 100 m. Proof of concept demonstration of underwater autonomously grasping objects of different weights with this sensor is successfully achieved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper relates to the development of an algorithm applicable for maintaining the rotational speed of low-speed drives using PMSM motors and operating under a sign-changing load. The moment of inertia of rotating parts does not play the role of a mechanical stabilizer for the speeds discussed in the article. Simulation studies are presented with the aim of developing a rotational speed control algorithm that utilizes only positional feedback and the previously assumed sign-changing load on the shaft. For the purposes of this research, a mathematical model was developed to calculate transient processes in a PMSM machine operating in the conditions of a sign-changing load on the shaft. This model assumes a deterministic control principle adapted to the known nature of the load change. In this model, the mutual influence occurring between the phase fluxes, the electromagnetic torque, the electric currents and the rotor position angle are established on the basis of FEM analysis of a two-dimensional magnetic field using a quasi-stationary approximation. Principles applicable for controlling a direct low-speed servo drive based on a PMSM machine operating with a known variable shaft load using only positional feedback and a predetermined shaft load change law are defined. The proposed regulation method is verified in an experimental manner. For this purpose, an experimental setup was built, which includes a PMSM with a load imitator on a variable sign shaft, an inverter providing sine-shaped power supply to the machine and a digital dual-processor control system. The discussed rotational speed stabilization algorithm was implemented in the form of a program for a microcontroller, which forms a part of the control system. The results of experimental tests confirm the adequacy of mathematical modeling and the effectiveness of the proposed rotational speed stabilization algorithm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary The aim of this paper is to present a methodology for solving а dynamic electric circuit with nonlinear hysteretic inductor without the use of hysteresis model or equivalent circuits. A consideration of nonlinear and hysteretic behaviour of the magnetic core under quasistatic conditions is based on applying harmonics interpolation method (HIM) to the measured magnetising field strength waveforms. A dynamic behaviour of the magnetic core is considered through the application of the statistical theory of losses (STL). A considered electric circuit consists of AC voltage source connected in series with shunt resistor, additional linear resistor and inductor, as well as a nonlinear hysteretic inductor. The solution for electric current of the circuit is obtained by solving equation derived from Kirchhoff's laws through a series of successive iterations. Coupling of electric and magnetic part of the circuit is obtained from fundamental laws of electromagnetism. Methodology is validated for four cases of the considered electric circuit — without additional elements, with one additional or both additional elements, for sinusoidal voltage source amplitudes of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9 V and frequency of 50 Hz. Validation is repeated for frequencies of 100, 200 and 300 Hz while keeping the ratio of the amplitude to frequency constant. In this paper, we develop a nonlinear mixed finite element method for flexoelectric semiconductors and analyze the mechanically tuned redistributions of free carriers and electric currents through flexoelectric polarization in typical structures. We first present a macroscopic theory for flexoelectric semiconductors by combining flexoelectricity and nonlinear drift-diffusion theory. To use C0 continuous elements, we derive an incremental constrained weak form by introducing Langrage multipliers, in which the kinematic constraints between the displacement and its gradient are guaranteed. Based on the weak form, we established a mixed C0 continuous nine-node quadrilateral finite element as well as an iterative process for solving nonlinear boundary-value problems. The accuracy and convergence of the proposed element are validated by comparing linear finite element method results against analytical solutions for the bending of a beam. Finally, the nonlinear element method is applied to more complex problems, such as a circular ring, a plate with a hole, and an isosceles trapezoid. A thermoelectric generator (TEG) is a semiconductor-based device that can exhibit a flow of electric current through the external circuit if the sides of the TEG are subjected to a temperature difference caused by a heat source. The terminal voltage and the TEG’s internal resistance are altered depending on the temperature difference. Therefore, a suitable power electronic converter with a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) feature is required to harvest maximum power from the TEG and store the harvested energy in a battery-based energy storage system. This paper investigates a novel energy harvesting methodology from TEG using a series compensated buck-boost converter (SCBBC). MPPT has also been implemented using a sliding mode controller (SMC). A mathematical model of a TEG source has been developed in MATLAB-Simulink and tested with generic boost converter (GBC) and SCBBC for their dynamic performances during battery charging. The efficiency of conversion is found to be higher for SCBBC, at 97.87%. An experimental prototype has been developed with SCBBC and tested for two configurations, viz high voltage and low current configuration. The former configuration exhibits an efficiency of 86.3%, while the latter has an efficiency of 83%. The results indicate that SCBBC, along with SMC, opens up new efficient prospects for harvesting waste heat energy using TEGs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper studies the multi‐physical fields in a torsional composite fiber composed of a non‐piezoelectric semiconductor (PS) core coated with a piezoelectric dielectric shell. Based on the three‐dimensional framework of piezoelectricity and drift‐diffusion theory, we develop a nonlinear one‐dimensional model that incorporates the warping deformation, shear deformation, and axial variations of the electric field and charge transportations. A One‐dimensional model is linearized for small perturbations of charges, and we obtain the analytical solutions for single rods or PN junctions when torques are applied, which explicitly illustrates the electromechanical fields and redistribution of mobile charges. We also examine how the thickness of the composite rods affects the interaction between the piezoelectric and semiconductor components in the model. The optimal thickness ratio for maximizing the overall mobility of carriers has been discovered. This enables us to modify the thickness ratio to achieve the greatest PS interaction performance. Based on the nonlinear equations, we analyze the relationships between electric currents and applied voltages on the end of rods. Finally, we examine how twisting moments influence the characteristics of this I‐V relationship. The presented study provides a potential application for mechanical switches or sensors for PSs. Using multiple input power sources increases the reliability of electric vehicles compared to a single source. However, the inclusion of other sources exhibits complexity in the controller system, such as computing time, program difficulty, and switching speed to connect or disconnect the input power to load. To ensure optimal performance and avoid overloading issues, the EV system needs sophisticated control. This work introduces a machine-learning-based controller using an artificial neural network to solve these problems. This paper describes the detailed power management control methodology using multiple sources like solar PV, fuel cells, and batteries. Novel control with an instantaneous reference current scheme is used to manage the input power sources to satisfy the power demand of electric vehicles. The proposed work executes the power split-up operation with standard and actual drive cycles and maximum power point tracking for PV panels using MATLAB Simulink. Finally, power management with a machine learning technique is implemented in an experimental analysis with the LabVIEW software, and an FPGA controller is used to control a 48 V, 1 kW permanent-magnet synchronous machine. Metallic electrodes are widely used in many applications, the analysis of their frequency-domain behavior is an important subject, particularly in applications related to earthing/grounding systems, from dc up into the MHz range. In this paper, a numerical evaluation of the frequency-dependent complex impedance of the hemispherical ground electrode is implemented. A closed-form solution for non-zero frequencies is still a difficult task to achieve as evidenced in a previous paper dedicated to the subject and, therefore, numerical approaches should be an alternative option. The aim of this article is to present a solution based on a numerical method using finite element analysis. In typical commercial FE tools, electric currents exhibit azimuthal orientation and, as such, the magnetic field has a null azimuthal component but non-null axial and radial components. On the contrary, a dual problem is considered in this work, with a purely azimuthal magnetic field. To overcome the difficulty of directly using a commercial FE tool, a novel formulation is developed. An innovative 2D formulation, the ι-form, is developed as a modification of the H-formulation applied to axisymmetric magnetic field problems. The results are validated using a classical 3D H-formulation; comparisons showed very good agreement. The electrode complex impedance is analyzed considering two different cases. Firstly, the grounding system is constituted by a hemispherical electrode surrounded by a remote concentric electrode; in the second case, the grounding system is constituted by two identical thin hemispherical electrodes. Computed results are presented and discussed, showing how the grounding impedance depends on the frequency and, also, on the radius of the remote concentric electrode (first case) or on the distance between the two hemispherical electrodes (second case). In this paper, we propose an inchworm-type soft robot using a self-healing gel as its body and shape-memory alloy (SMA) wires as its actuators. To realize inchworm-like locomotion, two coiled SMA wires are placed in parallel in the gel-fabricated body. The bottom-side wire and the upper-side wire reciprocally bend by applying electric current to the actuators. To realize the self-restoration automatically, the robot consists of a self-healing body equipped with magnets. Recently, Gunn, Allison and Abbott (GAA) [http://arxiv.org/pdf/1402.2709v2.pdf] proposed a new scheme to utilize electromagnetic waves for eavesdropping on the Kirchhoff-law-Johnson-noise (KLJN) secure key distribution. We proved in a former paper [Fluct. Noise Lett. 13 (2014) 1450016] that GAA's mathematical model is unphysical. Here we analyze GAA's cracking scheme and show that, in the case of a loss-free cable, it provides less eavesdropping information than in the earlier (Bergou)-Scheuer-Yariv mean-square-based attack [Kish LB, Scheuer J, Phys. Lett. A 374:2140-2142 (2010)], while it offers no information in the case of a lossy cable. We also investigate GAA's claim to be experimentally capable of distinguishing-using statistics over a few correlation times only-the distributions of two Gaussian noises with a relative variance difference of less than 10-8. Normally such distinctions would require hundreds of millions of correlations times to be observable. We identify several potential experimental artifacts as results of poor KLJN design, which can lead to GAA's assertions: deterministic currents due to spurious harmonic components caused by ground loops, DC offset, aliasing, non-Gaussian features including non-linearities and other non-idealities in generators, and the timederivative nature of GAA's scheme which tends to enhance all of these artifacts. This paper analyses the behavioral features of ohmic contacts under the conditions of traditional isothermal annealing. The purpose of this paper is to study the value change of the semiconductor contact resistance when applying electric current pulses of different powers. For the experiments, structures were formed of metal-sublayer-semiconductor wafer Al–(Ti, Ni, Mo)–Si. The quality control of the deposited films was carried out microscopically by the four-probe method. The presented results indicate the solid-phase interaction of components during diffusion annealing Si–Me–Al thin-film systems. This rearrangement of atoms, which occurs with grain-boundary diffusion, significantly affects the electrical and thermal characteristics of the formed contacts. The novelty of the paper is that the optimal parameters of a rectangular current pulse were selected, which made it possible to reduce the value of the transition resistance by 1.6 times. A mechanical lock uses the physical movement and force of another object known as the key for 'opening' and 'closing'. Although mechanical locks are popular because they are durable and affordable, replacing them with electronic locks or smart locks have some benefits, which include higher level of security; less risk of illegal duplication of keys; and ease of programming to replace lost or compromised soft keys. Smart locks use electric current to lock and unlock. They can be controlled and monitored remotely through the Internet. While, it is not possible for any lock system to guarantee absolute security, it is important to identify the threats, assess the risks, and mitigate against the threats and risks to achieve improved security. This paper presents the design of a smart lock system with real-time detection and reaction to security breaches. The features of the smart lock include multiple access using tactile buttons, or a password via a keypad, or a fingerprint via a fingerprint sensor, or a password via a mobile app through a Bluetooth module for 'opening' and 'closing'. The smart lock detects intrusion and physical tampering, triggers an alarm, sends an SMS to a mobile phone and gives a report of security breaches and time of occurrence of such breaches. This paper proposes a longitudinal protection scheme utilizing empirical wavelet transform (EWT) for a throughtype cophase traction direct power supply system, where both sides of a traction network line exhibit a distinctive boundary structure. This approach capitalizes on the boundary's capacity to attenuate the high-frequency component of fault signals, resulting in a variation in the high-frequency transient energy ratio when faults occur inside or outside the line. During internal line faults, the high-frequency transient energy at the checkpoints located at both ends surpasses that of its neighboring lines. Conversely, for faults external to the line, the energy is lower compared to adjacent lines. EWT is employed to decompose the collected fault current signals, allowing access to the high-frequency transient energy. The longitudinal protection for the traction network line is established based on disparities between both ends of the traction network line and the high-frequency transient energy on either side of the boundary. Moreover, simulation verification through experimental results demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed protection scheme across various initial fault angles, distances to faults, and fault transition resistances. The aim of this paper is to present a novel class of time-dependent controls to realize ultra-fast magnetization switching in nanomagnets driven by spin-torques produced by spin-polarized electric currents. Magnetization dynamics in such complex systems is governed by the Landau–Lifshitz–Slonczewski equation which describes the precessional motion of (dimensionless) magnetization vector on the unit-sphere. The relevant case of nanoparticles with uniaxial anisotropy having in-plane easy and intermediate axes as well as out-of-plane hard axis is considered. By exploiting the characteristic smallness of damping and spin-torque intensity, the complexity of the magnetic system's dynamic is dealt with by employing tools borrowed from Hamiltonian Perturbation Theory. More precisely, the aforementioned controls are constructed via suitable perturbative tools in a way to realize approximate latitudinal solutions (i.e. motions on a sphere in which the out-of-plane magnetization component stays constant) with the effect to fast "switch" the system from one stationary state to another. The possibility to keep a ("small") bounded value of the out-of-plane coordinate throughout this process of "transfer" turns out to be advantageous in the applications as it sensibly reduces the post-switching relaxation oscillations that may cause the failure of switching in real samples. Further relevant quantitative results on the behavior of the solutions during the pre- and post-switching stages (termed "expulsion" and "attraction", respectively) are given as a by-product. Heat-assisted machining is one of the methods used to process moderate to difficult-to-machine materials. Laser, plasma, induction current, oxy-gas flame, and electric current are the primary energy sources used for preheating. In this paper, the Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) technique is used, which can be considered an alternative and economical energy source for preheating. Both conventional and TIG-assisted machining (TIGAM) experiments in the same cutting conditions are performed and the results are compared. In the TIGAM method, the specific cutting force (kci.i) decreases due to the increase in the work material temperature (Tmr). The decrease of kci.i provides a maximum reduction of specific cutting energy (Esc) of 17.17 %. Thus, plastic deformation of the chip is facilitated, and the chip shrinkage coefficient (z) decreases. The physics of solar flares occurring on the Sun is highly complex and far from fully understood. However, observations show that solar eruptions are associated with the intense kilogauss fields of active regions, where free energies are stored with field-aligned electric currents. With the advent of high-quality data sources such as the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) and Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO)/Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI), recent works on solar flare forecasting have been focusing on data-driven methods. In particular, black box machine learning and deep learning models are increasingly being adopted in which underlying data structures are not modeled explicitly. If the active regions indeed follow the same laws of physics, similar patterns should be shared among them, reflected by the observations. Yet, these black box models currently used in the literature do not explicitly characterize the heterogeneous nature of the solar flare data within and between active regions. In this paper, we propose two finite mixture models designed to capture the heterogeneous patterns of active regions and their associated solar flare events. With extensive numerical studies, we demonstrate the usefulness of our proposed method for both resolving the sample imbalance issue and modeling the heterogeneity for rare energetic solar flare events. The silicon carbide (SiC) inverter brings great advantages to the motor drive systems of new energy vehicles; however, severe challenges to the bearings also happen. The high dc bus voltage and switching frequency of SiC inverter can increase the discharge frequency and energy when the bearing grease film collapses. As a result, the bearing suffers severe electric corrosion, and the service life of the motor drive system can be shortened. In this paper, the characteristics of common-mode voltage and bearing voltage are analyzed, firstly under space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM). After that, the common-mode equivalent circuit model of the motor drive system is established. The frequency characteristics of bearing voltage are revealed, and the safe working area is determined. Then, the frequency characteristics of bearing voltage and current are verified based on IGBT and SiC inverters in experiments. After that, by designing a common-mode filter, the bearing voltage and current are significantly attenuated. Furthermore, the active zero state PWM (AZSPWM) is adopted to reduce the common-mode voltage from the inverter. At the same time, combined with the common-mode filter, the bearing voltage and current are further reduced. The experimental results show that the switching frequency has a decisive effect on the amplitude of bearing voltage and current. The bearing voltage can be attenuated to around half of the reference bearing voltage by using the common-mode filter and AZSPWM strategy, respectively. The combination of the common-mode filter and AZSPWM strategy can reduce the bearing voltage to around one-fourth of the reference bearing voltage, which can effectively reduce the breakdown time and discharge energy of the grease oil film. This paper presents a case study conducted in an assembly cell specifically designed for the automated drilling of an aeronautical structure. The study shows how techniques approached by the 4.0 industry have the potential to contribute to manufacturing, breaking the limits imposed by the previous state-of-the art systems. This paper proposes a method that utilizes a committee of neural networks to calculate an indicator for the final quality of drilled holes. The method analyzes data obtained by monitoring the electric current consumed by the drilling system drive. Considering the tests carried out on a real product, the method presents an accuracy of 95% and has the potential to increase the efficiency of the drilling process, reducing the cycle time by up to 25%, since it can avoid measurement steps and physical inspections which increase the cycle time of the drilling process. Electrons near the Fermi level behaving as massless Dirac fermions in graphene in (1+2)-D relativistic spacetime have been confirmed by an experiment. Using this aspect, a myriad of novel and interesting devices can be sought. In this paper, we laid out the theory for using a monolayer graphene sheet as an electron diffractometer, aiming at the determination of surface properties in materials. The key ingredient is the Mott scattering of electrons by screened Coulomb scatterers in (1+2)-D spacetime. The specific array of scatterers provided by a given surface placed in contact with a graphene sheet will induce an angular distribution for the electron scattering events, which can be properly measured through the electric current flowing to external electrodes. In the prevailing form of the generalized Ohm's law (GOL), −me/e(J/en)⋅∇(J/en) ${-}\left({m}_{e}/e\right)\left[(\boldsymbol{J}/en)\cdot \nabla \right](\boldsymbol{J}/en)$ is often neglected. Because of the resemblance to the magnetic tension, we refer to this term as the current tension electric field (ECT). Our theoretical analysis reveals that ECT with a characteristic length of mi/me1/6λe ${\left({m}_{i}/{m}_{e}\right)}^{1/6}{\lambda }_{e}$ dominates the electron inertia terms in the electron diffusion region (EDR) and is comparable to the electron pressure term in low‐βe conditions. Using particle‐in‐cell simulations, we demonstrate that ECT can contribute significantly to the reconnection electric field and energy dissipation at the boundaries of the inner EDR and in the outer EDR. Positive and negative J ⋅ ECT can be used to identify inner and outer electron diffusion regions, respectively. In collisionless plasma, the generalized Ohm's law (GOL) introduces collisionless effects which break the frozen‐in constraint and enable reconnection to occur. The term, −me/e(J/en)⋅∇(J/en) ${-}\left({m}_{e}/e\right)\left[(\boldsymbol{J}/en)\cdot \nabla \right](\boldsymbol{J}/en)$, which is one of the electron inertia terms of GOL, is referred to as the current tension electric field (ECT) by us due to its mathematical resemblance to magnetic tension. In many classic textbooks and review papers, ECT is considered as a small quantity and thus is ignored. In this study, we present solid evidence from both theoretical studies and particle‐in‐cell (PIC) simulations to demonstrate that ECT dominates the electron inertia terms and plays important roles in providing reconnection electric field and energy dissipation in reconnection. This paper is aimed at proposing a calculation model for the ground resistance of a grounding scheme servicing a high-voltage direct-current converter station. The method is based on the equivalence of current conduction and electric field from the grounding scheme through the surrounding medium. The grounding scheme is composed of three concentric ring electrodes supported by two horizontal conductors and eight vertical rods. The calculated ground resistance is 4.8   Ω against the experimental value of 5   Ω with an error of 4.2 % . The calculated ground resistance value agrees reasonably well with that of 4.7   Ω as obtained using CYMGRD software (version 7.0). The calculated surface-potential values over the ground surface agreed reasonably well with those measured experimentally, with an average deviation not exceeding 6.5 % . This study is designed to investigate how ground resistance is decreased by the increase in the scheme parameters, including the rods' diameter and length, as well as the radius of the inner and outer rings. In the last 60 years, the largest displacement of the magnetic equator (by about 1100 km northwards) occurred in the Brazilian longitudinal sector. The magnetic equator passed by Tatuoca magnetic observatory (TTB) in northern Brazil in 2012 and continues to move northward. Due to the horizontal geomagnetic field geometry at the magnetic equator, enhanced electric currents in the ionosphere are produced - the so called equatorial electrojet (EEJ). The magnetic effect of the EEJ is observed in the range of ± 3 degrees from the magnetic equator, where magnetic observatories record an amplified daily variation of the H component. In order to track the spatial and temporal variation of this phenomena, a new magnetometer station was installed in Macapá (MAA), which is about 350 km northwest from TTB. In this paper, we present the setup and data analysis of MAA station from 11/2019 until 09/2021. Stable communication technologies in complex waters are a prerequisite for underwater operations. Underwater acoustic communication is susceptible to multipath interference, while underwater optical communication is susceptible to environmental impact. The underwater electric field communication established based on the weak electric fish perception mechanism is not susceptible to environmental interference, and the communication is stable. It is a new type of underwater communication technology. To address issues like short communication distances and high bit error rates in existing underwater electric field communication systems, this study focuses on underwater electric field communication systems based on direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) and binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation techniques. To verify the feasibility of the established spread spectrum electric field communication system, static communication experiments were carried out in a swimming pool using the DSSS-based system. The experimental results show that in fresh water with a conductivity of 739 μS/cm, the system can achieve underwater current electric field communication within a 11.2 m range with 10−6 bit errors. This paper validates the feasibility of DSSS BPSK in short-range underwater communication, and compact communication devices are expected to be deployed on underwater robots for underwater operations. Railway catenary galloping, induced by aerodynamic instability, poses a significant threat by disrupting the electric current connection through sliding contact with the contact wire. This disruption leads to prolonged rail service interruptions and damage to the catenary's suspension components. This paper delves into the exploration of optimizing the catenary system's structure to alleviate galloping responses, addressing crucial parameters such as span length, stagger dropper distribution, and tension levels. Employing a finite element model, the study conducts simulations to analyze the dynamic response of catenary galloping, manipulating structural parameters within specified ranges. To ensure accurate and comprehensive exploration, the Sobol sequence is utilized to generate low-discrepancy, quasi-random, and super-uniform distribution sequences for the high-dimensional parameter inputs. Subsequent to the simulation phase, a genetic algorithm based on neural networks is employed to identify optimal parameter settings for suppressing catenary galloping, taking into account various constraints. The results gleaned from this investigation affirm that adjusting structural parameters can effectively diminish the galloping amplitude of the railway catenary. The most impactful strategy involves augmenting tension and reducing span length. Moreover, even when tension and span length are fixed, adjusting other parameters demonstrates efficacy in reducing galloping amplitudes. The adjustment of messenger-wire tension, dropper distribution, and stagger can achieve a 22.69% reduction in the maximum vertical galloping amplitude. Notably, maintaining a moderate stagger value and a short steady arm–dropper distance is recommended to achieve the minimum galloping amplitude. This research contributes valuable insights into the optimization of railway catenary systems, offering practical solutions to mitigate galloping-related challenges and enhance overall system reliability. Joule heat induced by electric current may well lead to thermal stress and contribute to structural failure and crack evolution in a range of modern materials. In this paper, we use complex variable methods to obtain the thermoelastic fields around an elliptic cavity in a plate subjected to remote electric and thermal loads. Of particular interest is the fact that we consider the temperature dependency of the corresponding thermoelastic coefficients. We introduce an analytical method which is verified by the fact that it leads to results which reduce to the classical analytical results in the literature when the thermoelastic coefficients are taken to be temperature-independent. We find that when the elliptic cavity is reduced to the representation of a linear crack, the corresponding stress intensity factor increases to a greater extent under the temperature-dependent assumption versus the corresponding classical results. Our findings are significant in forming the basis for the analysis of the evolution of crack growth under severe temperature gradients such as those occurring as a result of Joule heat loading. This paper presents the impact of temperature variations and alterations in transistor channel dimensions on CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) circuit technology. To facilitate this investigation, we first identified critical parameters characterizing the device's performance, which could exhibit susceptibility to these influences. The analysis encompassed critical metrics such as the transfer characteristic, drain current, logic levels, inflection points, and truncation points. These parameters enabled us to validate the results obtained from the PSPICE simulator, which demonstrated unequivocal effectiveness. Notably, our simulation results unveiled significant effects resulting from a wide temperature range spanning from -100°C to 270°C, offering valuable in-sights into thermal-induced failures. Additionally, the influence of channel dimension changes on factors like drain current and transfer characteristics, as well as temporal parameters including signal propagation delay and rise and fall times, were meticulously examined and appreciated. Unlike the previously known cases of visible contraction and expansion of flare loops in the phases of rise and decay of the flare radiation flux, respectively, the flare on January 15, 2022 exhibited a directly opposite process: the loop increases in its height during the flare intensity rise phase and contracts during the decay phase. Characteristic changes in the height, duration, and rate of the expansion and contraction of the loop structure were established. The safety and reliability of the initiating explosive devices (IEDs) are critical for the weapon system. As the core components of IEDs, the method of resistance designing and the performance of conversion energy of energy conversion components (ECCs) are worth being studied. In this paper, the design method for the resistance of ECCs is established based on the finite element discrete method, and the currents of melting and electric explosion are presented for evaluating the performance of ECCs. The results show that the resistance of the ECCs is 1 ± 0.05 Ω with consistency. The ECCs were designed by the established design method of resistance and manufactured by the established machining method. The melting current of ECCs is 1.8 A, which is calculated by the infrared temperature measurement and finite element simulation. Automatic protection of EM detecting systems from unexpected high-power incidence is important to the robustness and life of a passive detecting system. In this paper, an adaptive metamaterial radome which automatically shields the receiving antenna from strong incident wave is designed. Based on standard wire medium, PIN diodes are added between adjacent wires. When the incident EM wave is weak, the diodes are in "off" state and affect little to the transmission of the wire medium. When the incident EM wave is strong enough to turn the diodes to "on" state, electric currents will be automatically formed in the diodes and the power transmitted to the antenna will be largely reduced.
