Summary: Multilevel inverters are known as essential converters in renewable sources. First, in this paper, a new submodule is presented, and based on it, a new sub‐multilevel inverter is presented. The proposed sub‐multilevel inverter consists of several unidirectional and bidirectional switches and DC voltage sources. Then, the generalized topology, developed in two modular and cascaded modes, is presented to increase production levels. The proposed submodules are connected in series in the modular topology, increasing production levels. The proposed topology to produce the maximum output levels has the minimum number of IGBTs, drivers, DC voltage sources, etc. Mathematical analyses for conduction and switching losses are provided, and mathematical analyses for the number of devices and voltage across the switches are also presented. In addition to the mathematical analysis of losses, the simulation results are also presented. A general comparison of proposed topology components is presented to demonstrate their advantages. This comparison shows that the proposed topology has the minimum number of power electronic devices. In this paper, nearest level modulation is used to control the proposed topology. A lot of previous studies have shown a great interest in connecting photovoltaic (PV) arrays to electric power grids. A Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) controlled 100 kW PV array to boost its power that feeds the grid with the help of a three-level inverter. This paper investigated the effects of open-circuit faults of three-level inverter IGBT switches on the performance of the PV array system. This paper proposes a new diagnostic method called the Double Threshold-Trigonometric Coordinates (DT-TC) that relies on the double threshold technique and the trigonometric coordinates, respectively, for early detection and the precise location of open-circuit faults. To the best knowledge of the authors, two simultaneous open-circuit faults were not considered in the previous studies. The obtained simulation results prove the great success of the proposed diagnosis method even under noticeable changes in irradiation, temperature, and the number of PV array connected in series and in parallel. In this study, the reconfigurable fault-tolerant inverter was included to ensure the perfect continuity of the PV array system and its recovery in an extremely very short time up to 7 ms. This paper introduces a novel three‐phase grid‐tied multilevel inverter (MLI) topology that employs a basic unit per phase, yielding a symmetrical configuration capable of generating five‐level output voltage and an asymmetrical configuration producing seven‐level and nine‐level output voltages. The generalization of the proposed MLI is presented in terms of the number of modules (M) and output levels (L). A comprehensive comparative analysis of the proposed MLI topology against existing configurations is presented for both symmetric and asymmetric cases. The switching devices in the MLI are controlled using the in‐phase disposition level shift PWM (IPD‐LSPWM) technique. The synchronization of the grid‐tied MLI is addressed by considering the uncertainties in grid and load parameters at the point of common coupling (PCC). To achieve synchronization, a PLL‐less grid voltage‐ modulated direct power control (GVM‐DPC) technique is implemented. To mitigate the delay associated with PLL, a GVM‐DPC based on the stationary reference frame (SRF) is applied. This paper also includes mathematical modelling of GVM‐DPC without PLL and the design of an LCL filter. A simulation model of a 15‐kVA, three‐phase, nine‐level grid‐tied MLI is developed in MATLAB/Simulink and tested under both steady‐state and dynamic conditions. The proposed controller's performance is evaluated under the load variations and sudden changes in available power from the distributed generator (DG). Robustness is tested under adverse conditions such as voltage sag/swell at the PCC. Furthermore, the system is implemented in the OPAL‐RT OP4510 real‐time simulator, and the results are validated to confirm the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed grid‐tied MLI. This paper proposes a single-phase, transformer-less, seven-level inverter that utilizes eight switches, three capacitors, and two diodes to produce seven voltage levels with triple boosting ability. The availability of the common-ground point eliminates the leakage current in PV applications. The proposed Transformer-Less Triple-Boosting Seven-Level Inverter (TLTB7LI) has the ability to feed different types of loads from non-unity to unity power factors. The voltage balancing of capacitors takes place naturally without the need for auxiliary circuits and complicated control strategies. This paper investigates the appropriateness of the proposed TLTB7LI for grid-connected application. The Peak Current Controller (PCC) is employed to generate the switching pulses and regulate the active/reactive power transfer between the converter and the output, which guarantees the high quality of injected current to the output. Moreover, the operational principles, its control technique, as well as the design procedure of the key components of the proposed inverter have been presented. The superiority of the proposed inverter over existing counterparts has been verified through comparative analysis. The main contribution of this paper is to present a simple algorithm that theoretically and numerically assesses the switching angles of an inverter operated with the SPWM technique. This technique is the most widely used for eliminating harmonics in DC-AC converters for powering motors, renewable energy applications, household appliances, etc. Unlike conventional implementations of the SPWM technique based on the analog or digital comparison of a sinusoidal signal with a triangular signal, this paper mathematically performs this comparison. It proposes a simple solution to solve the transcendental equations arising from the mathematical analysis numerically. The technique is validated by calculating the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the generated signal theoretically and numerically, and the results indicate that the calculated angles produce the same distribution of harmonics calculated analytically and numerically. This paper presents development of a hardware simulator for the DC–AC inverters of electric compressors (e-compressors). In general, early-release EVs often feature a nominal battery voltage of around 400 V. However, EVs with a 400 V battery have drawbacks such as slow battery charging speeds and limited driving distances. To overcome these drawbacks, the nominal battery voltage has recently been increased from 400 V to around 800 V. Accordingly, research on electrical components applicable to EVs with an 800 V battery has been conducted. However, research on the DC–AC inverter used in the e-compressor, as a core component of an electric air conditioning system for EVs with 800 V battery, is insufficient. Therefore, the development of a hardware simulator of DC–AC inverters for the e-compressors used in EVs with an 800 V battery is proposed in this paper. Summary: LCL‐type grid‐connected inverters have seen extensive use of the passivity‐based control (PBC) system. However, traditional PBC systems rarely take time delay into account while designing the system or doing a stability study. Therefore, utilizing Lyapunov's criterion to conclude that the system is stable is not accurate. The analysis revealed that the differential terms of PBC loops with the Euler–Lagrange (EL) mathematical model could induce instability considered control delay for LCL‐type grid‐connected inverter system. Compared with traditional EL‐PBC method, this paper proposed a reconstructed EL‐PBC scheme by properly optimizing the noise term. Then, the equivalent output impedance of the grid‐connected inverter system with proposed controller is analyzed with frequency domain passivity theory. The controller parameters are also optimized to ensure both the internal stability of LCL‐type grid‐connected inverter and the risk of interactive resonance in complex weak and nonideal grid. Summary: Grid‐forming (GFM) inverters offer stable frequency support for microgrid systems, even in the absence of synchronous generators. However, the GFM inverters have low inertia and vulnerability to system uncertainties and external disturbances. The conventional dual‐loop proportional integral (PI) control strategy, while widely used for its simplicity and robustness, suffers from poor dynamic performance. Motivated by this, this paper presents an observer‐based residual‐driven dynamic compensation (RDDC) strategy based on the coprime factorization technic and the Youla parameterization theory to achieve the primary control of the GFM inverter. The observer‐based RDDC strategy comprises four components: a PI controller for tracking control, a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) controller for dynamic adjustment, a residual generator based on the Kalman filter for state estimation and residual generation, and a residual compensation controller designed using model matching theory and solved through linear matrix inequality (LMI) methods for disturbance suppression. Simulation and experiment results consistently demonstrate that the observer‐based RDDC strategy ensures system robustness, enhances the dynamic and steady‐state performance of the GFM inverter system, and strengthens the ability of the GFM inverter to suppress disturbances. The phase circulating current (PCC) of the parallel three-phase inverter systems dramatically affects the power quality and conversion efficiency of the power grid. In this paper, a composite suppression strategy is proposed to solve the PCC issue by using the sliding mode control (SMC) approach and improved virtual impedance droop control. Taking the commonly used 2-group parallel three-phase inverter as an example, an inter- and intra-classification model is established by analyzing the sources of PCC. In order to suppress the inter-PCC, the traditional virtual impedance droop control is given, following the improved substitute by combining SMC. And the variables of the bus voltage, Q-U loop, P-f loop, and the virtual-induced reactance are also introduced for the robust control of the impedance droop. On the other side, a SMC-based suppression approach is designed to solve the issue of the intra-PCC. Its idea is to introduce a regulation factor for the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) so that the zero-sequence voltage can be eliminated and the influence of the intra-PCC can be relieved. This paper proposes a transformerless common ground based single phase single‐stage switched boost inverter for solar photovoltaic (PV) applications. In the proposed inverter, the input DC source and output AC load share a common ground. As a result, the high‐frequency common mode voltage across the parasitic capacitance is eliminated, resulting in negligible leakage current (iLK) and the associated power loss, and harmonics in the inverter. Moreover, the higher voltage gain of the inverter facilitates the inverter to operate with high modulation index and lower shoot through (ST) duty ratio. Hence, the DC link voltage requirement across the inverter leg is reduced. Consequently, the voltage stress across the switches is minimized. Here, a modified PWM control technique is adopted, where the dual active states of the proposed inverter reduce the inductor current ripple and make it suitable for solar PV applications. The voltage boosting capability of the proposed inverter is extendable with the help of an additional number of intermediate impedance sub‐networks. The detailed steady‐state analysis of the proposed inverter is verified with the help of MATLAB simulation. To verify the simulation results, a 200 W, 120 V, and 50 Hz experimental prototype is developed. The prototype is tested for unity and lagging power factor load conditions with a wide range of input DC voltages, and all the major results are included in the paper. The power and thermal loss analysis is carried out using PLECS software, and the results show that the inverter has a maximum efficiency of 97.48%. From the experimental results, it can be inferred that the proposed inverter has a higher modulation index, lesser inductor current ripple, and zero leakage current as compared to the contemporary inverters. In weak grid, feedforward of grid voltage control is widely used to effectively suppress grid-side current distortion of inverters caused by harmonics in point of common coupling (PCC) voltage. However, due to its introduction of a positive feedback loop related to the grid impedance, it results in a significant reduction in the system phase margin. In view of this, in this paper, the output impedance of a three-phase LCL grid-connected inverter under a quasi-proportional resonant (QPR) controller is first modeled. Instead of the traditional grid voltage feedforward control strategy, a band-pass filter is added to the grid voltage feedforward channel. Secondly, a multi-objective constraint method is proposed to make improvements to the feedforward function. Then, a multi-objective constraint function is established with the constraints of base-wave current tracking performance, system stability margin, and low-frequency amplitude, and the feasibility of its function optimization design method is verified. Theoretical analysis shows that the optimized grid voltage feedforward control strategy can effectively reshape the phase characteristics of the system output impedance, which greatly broadens the adaptation range of the system to the grid impedance. This paper proposes a diagnostic and fault-tolerant method for an open-fault condition in dual inverters with open-end winding interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (OEW-IPMSMs). Certain switch pairs show similar behavior in the output current in an open-fault condition due to the structural characteristics of the two-level dual inverter. This work presents a method for detecting open-fault conditions and ensuring a fault-tolerant operation. The proposed method is applied in dual inverters with isolated voltage sources for driving OEW-IPMSM. In the event of an open-fault condition, a pair of switches containing the faulty switch is identified based on the stator current. Subsequently, the switch with the open-fault condition is determined, and fault-tolerant control for a faulty switch is immediately performed through a single-mode operation using zero-voltage vectors. Cascaded H-bridge inverters, which belong to strongly nonlinear time-varying system with complex dynamics, have been widely used in high-voltage and high-power engineering fields. In this paper, a carrier phase-shifted sinusoidal pulse-width modulation cascaded H-bridge inverter is taken as an example with piecewise analysis to establish the discrete iterative mathematical model. Furthermore, the nonlinear dynamic behavior of this inverter system is investigated using folding diagrams, spectrum diagrams, bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents, etc. We find that this inverter can exhibit multiperiod bifurcation, tangential bifurcation and paroxysmal chaos within certain ranges of control coefficients and other circuit parameters, which will influence the system's stability seriously. On the basis of this discovery, the sinusoidal time-delay feedback control method is proposed. The difference between the load current of the controlled object and its own delay is used to form a feedback term, which is then fed into the sine function and proportional link to obtain the control term. Moreover, the Jacobian matrix of this feedback inverter system is derived, and the constraints on the feedback control coefficient are obtained based on the Jury criterion. Simulation results have verified the effectiveness of such a sinusoidal time-delay feedback control method, which can improve the stability and anti-interference of the system. Summary: Grid‐connected inverter with a novel fractional‐order LLCL filter has the advantage of high grid current tracking accuracy and low total harmonic distortion without passive or active dampers, and the grid voltage full feedforward scheme is an effective method to improve the quality of grid current. However, due to the digital control delay, the suppression of the grid current harmonics is weakened, and the inverter output impedance has an additional negative phase shift, which deteriorates the stability of grid‐connected systems under weak grid. In this paper, a weighted grid voltage fractional‐order feedforward control scheme is proposed based on a quasi‐proportional resonant (QPR) controller, which introduces two weighting factors in the full feedforward path of the grid voltage and compensates the phase lag of the output impedance by designing appropriate weighting factors. Then, an improved scheme combining the QPR controller with a phase compensator is presented. As a result, the suppression ability of grid current harmonics and the adaptability to grid impedance variations are enhanced. The multi-level inverter (MLI) is more efficient due to its ability to eliminate low-order harmonics. Thus, it is widely used in renewable energy generation, electric vehicles (EVs), etc. The choice of the neutral-point clamped (NPC) converter topology as a research object is of great significance in practical engineering. However, complex modulation algorithms and neutral-point voltage unbalance are two inherent problems for such NPC inverters. In this paper, an improved multi-voltage vector model predictive control (MVV-MPC) strategy based on neighboring four voltage vector synthesis is presented for three-phase NPC inverters. The duty cycle calculation and derivation methods for the proposed method are very simple, and they were obtained through the action time of each voltage vector being inversely proportional to the value of the corresponding cost function. Moreover, the fixed switching frequency of this strategy is maintained and the current peak ripple is reduced, guaranteeing the preferred total harmonic distortion of the output waveform. Furthermore, a voltage balancing method based on zero-sequence voltage injection is utilized to achieve dynamic balancing of the midpoint voltage difference and to limit the oscillation magnitude of the midpoint voltage difference to within ± 1 V. This article presents a novel 3-Φ inverter that operates from a single direct current source and is based on the idea of switched-capacitor (SC) techniques. Each phase leg of the proposed topology (PT) consists of eight switches, two capacitors, and a diode. This configuration enables the generation of seven levels (line-to-line) voltage waveforms. The proposed design has several advantages, such as the capacitors' natural balancing, the ability to boost, minimum voltage stresses on the power switches, and fewer switching components. When compared to the conventional two-stage design, single-stage dc–ac power converters with boost capabilities present an intriguing option. This paper introduces a novel boost-type inverter for use in a wide variety of applications, including rolling mills, fans, pumps, maritime appliances, mining, tractions, and more. Low-cost electric vehicles (EVs) prefer induction motor (IM) based drive systems which are mostly operated with 2-level inverters (2LIs) because they require fewer component counts and minimum control complexity. While an IM operated with 2LI has a higher total harmonic distortion (THD) and lower efficiency. An indirect current vector control (ICVC) scheme is an effective and simplest control scheme used for IM of EVs. This ICVC scheme required one speed sensor and three current sensors which increased its cost and control complexity. Therefore, in this paper, a cascaded H-bridge 3-level inverter (CHB-3LI) fed IM drive (IMD) is presented. A modified ICVC scheme having only one speed sensor is presented and used to control the CHB-3LI fed IMD. The steady-state and transient performances of CHB-3LI fed IMD with the modified ICVC scheme are analyzed through simulation in MATLAB Simulink and validated through experiments on a developed laboratory setup. This paper presents a state‐space average model of a three‐level photovoltaic (PV) inverter to understand short‐circuit currents transient characteristics. Analytical solution of the model is also derived. The proposed model is validated with PV system controller hardware in‐loop (HIL) test method. The errors between simulation and HIL tests results under various conditions are evaluated, testifying the validity of the proposed model. With the model and analytical solution, the decaying time constants of sub‐transient and transient processes are derived, which shows that the time constants of a three‐level PV inverter are not fixed and they vary with voltage dips. The analytical expression of short‐circuit currents is also formulated. The findings from this study are essential to short‐circuit current calculations of a power grid with large‐scale PV plants, coordination of power system protections, and grid planning. Summary: In many practical applications such as motor drives, the inverter is required to produce a variable output voltage within a wide range (e.g., 0.1 to 1 pu). In such cases, when the inverter operates in low modulation index (low output voltage), the harmonic distortion of the output voltage increases due to considerable reduction in the magnitude of the fundamental component. Also, the ratio of the switching losses to the output power will be high in the low modulation index. In this paper, a simple solution is proposed to overcome the problems. The principle of the proposed solution is to adjust the DC‐link voltage so that the modulation index of the inverter remains within a specific high range. Different practical ways of obtaining controlled DC‐link voltage are presented. Also, for operation of the DC‐DC converter used for DC‐link voltage control, three strategies are proposed. The proposed solution is simple, and it is very effective and feasible to implement. To the best of the authors' knowledge, the idea has not been presented in this form previously. The conventional topological approach to eliminate the multiple-input DC voltage requirement in multilevel inverter configurations for synthesizing high-output voltage levels is to deploy split capacitor banks at the input terminal. This method stipulates a less expensive, light weight, and reduced size inverter system. However, the excessive demand for several capacitor banks and the complex voltage balancing strategy associated with this conceptual approach poses numerous limitations in their deployment. In view of these drawbacks, this study proposes a self-balanced, single-phase, nine-level switched-capacitor-based inverter topology consisting of a single-input DC voltage, an auxiliary circuit, and an H-bridge circuit unit. A commensurate single carrier-based sinusoidal pulse-width modulation scheme is developed for the proposed power circuit control, enabling the synthesis of a nine-level output voltage waveform whose amplitude is four times the input voltage value. Detailed power circuit operations and switching functions are adequately provided in the proposed topology. A comparison between the proposed inverter and its recent counterparts in terms of component count, cost involvement, and output voltage-boosting ability is duly carried out using Python data visualization. Results reveal that the proposed inverter competes well in these three criteria. For varying R–L load values, the inverter has the capability of high active and reactive power delivery. Its dynamic response for step changes in the modulation index under these power-mode operations is presented in this paper. For high active power-mode operation, efficiencies of 98.27% and 98.92% under light- and heavy-load conditions, respectively, are obtained on a 3-kW-rated inverter prototype. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper introduces a Multi-Level Cascade Inverter (MLI) based on Enhanced Quasi-Z Source Inverter (MQZSI) to connect photovoltaic (PV) systems based on the proposed method. Usually the interface among PV power supply and load is completed with MQZS-CMLI. In this paper, the proposed control scheme is comprehensive implementation of Recalling Enhanced Recurrent Neural Network (RERNN) and Quasi-Opposite Chemical Reaction Optimization (QOCRO) named as RENCO. The main objective of proposed method is to decide the efficiency of the PV system by the maximal power extraction. Here, MQZS-CMLI's modeling design contains suitable number of components, other than their capacitors and semiconductors comply with low-voltage stress. It is improved for providing that maximum power of the PV power generation system. At first, the goal function is described according to the parameters and limitations of controller (like voltage, current, power, modulation index, so on). These parameters apply to recommend RENCO technology input. The proposed RENCO technology improves voltage distribution, power transmission, and minimizes power fluctuations while sharing power with load. The proposed MPPT-based technology ensures that the maximum power is provided to load. The proposed method adjust the duty cycle of MQZS-CMLI and reduces the modulation load. The grid connected inverter is the core component of the photovoltaic grid connected power generation system, which mainly converts the direct current of the photovoltaic matrix into alternating current that meets the grid connected requirements, playing a key role in the efficient and stable operation of the photovoltaic grid connected power generation system.This paper uses fuzzy PI control model which to improve the performance of intelligent photovoltaic grid-connected inverter to simulate the intelligent photovoltaic inverter system, using mathematical analysis and reasoning methods for model analysis,adopts two-stage three-phase LCL grid-connected inverter, establishes mathematical models in two-phase synchronous rotating and two-phase static coordinate systems, and adopts an active damping strategy based on grid-connected current. Purpose: This paper aims to solve the problems of large hard switching loss and unclear resonant parameter design in the existing inverter power supply topology. Design/methodology/approach: This paper proposes a simple and reliable two-stage isolated inverter composed of series quasi-resonant push-pull and external freewheeling diode full-bridge inverter. The power supply topology is analyzed, the topology mode is analyzed, the mathematical model of the converter is established and the DC gain of the converter is deduced. The relationship between the load and the output gain of the resonant tank is presented, a new resonant parameter design method is proposed, and the parameter design of the resonant element of the converter is clarified. Findings: The resonant components of the converter are designed according to the proposed resonant parameter design method, and the correctness of the method is verified by simulation and the development and testing of a 500 W experimental prototype. After experimental tests, the peak efficiency of the experimental prototype can reach 94%. Summary: This paper proposes leaky least mean fourth (LLMF) algorithm for the control of five‐level series connected H‐bridge multilevel inverter (5L SCHB‐MLI). The SCHB multilevel inverter is a popular configuration due to its wide application for high‐power and medium‐voltage applications. The complete system comprising the grid, load, and compensator is modeled in MATLAB/SIMULINK. Prototype hardware is also developed in the laboratory for experimental validation. The 5L SCHB inverter is connected in a single‐phase power distribution system and controlled as a compensator. The voltage across both DC links of the H‐bridges is regulated to almost equal value by the proposed control algorithm. The closed loop system is designed to mitigate total harmonic distortion (THD) in the source current and improve the power quality of the proposed system. The system is analyzed under the steady state and dynamic state, and the results are also verified on the hardware prototype developed in the laboratory. Multilevel inverters (MIs) are widely used in voltage source inverter applications due to their advantages of high-quality output voltage waveform, low power loss and low voltage stress. Compared with multiple DC source MI (MDCS-MI), single DC source MI (SDCS-MI) needs one DC source. This makes SDCS-MI more simplified and avoid voltage unevenness among multiple sources, which are advantageous in renewable energy (RE) applications. In order to understand SDCS-MI, this paper classifies and compares existing SDCS-MIs according to classical topologies based on isolated and non-isolated construction, summarizes the advantages and limitations of each type of topologies, and briefly introduces various control strategies of SDCS-MI. In this paper, a level-shift-based voltage modulation method for dual inverters used to drive open-end winding interior permanent magnet synchronous motors is presented. Notably, the conventional level-shift-based voltage modulation method used for dual inverters presents a disadvantage, since the differential mode voltage (DMV) significantly increases compared with that in the basic control method of dual inverters. This defect can be attributed to the fact that the conventional level-shift-based voltage modulation method uses a voltage vector combination that generates the maximum DMV peak value. To address this problem, the proposed method reduces the DMV by explicitly switching the voltage vectors that generate a large DMV. In this paper, the DMV generation process in a dual-inverter system is analyzed. Moreover, the DMV tendencies of the conventional and proposed methods are divided into operating regions according to the modulation index, which are further analyzed. It is simple to implement conventional current control with a proportional integral (PI) controller. However, system stability and dynamic performance are not perfect, particularly when operating under unfavorable conditions. In this paper, an improved control method is proposed by introducing a compensation unit. The compensation unit can effectively compensate the system's phase around the crossover frequency, greatly enhancing the system's phase margin and stability. It is also capable of handling weak-grid conditions. In this paper, the concept of the proposed compensation unit is explained first. Then, the corresponding mathematical model for the current control loop is built, and system bode diagrams for the conventional and proposed methods are compared. Furthermore, the effect of the parameters for the compensation unit is investigated, and an optimization method is proposed to determine optimal parameters. In addition, to handle weak-grid conditions, the proposed scheme is expanded by including the compensation unit in the grid's feed-forward loop. In recent years, there has been a trend toward expanding the operating frequency range and increasing the output power of Sound Navigation and Ranging (SONAR) systems to enhance their acoustic detection capabilities. However, due to this increase in operational power, the electrical capacity of amplifiers for SONAR system operation also increases, necessitating High-Power Amplifiers. When configured with a single amplifier, as in conventional methods, the volume of amplifiers increases due to volumetric increases in heat dissipation, components, and windings. These issues are detrimental to SONAR amplifier installation, mobility, maintenance, and equipment lifespan due to stress on individual components. Additionally, amplifiers for SONAR systems are comprised of power conversion devices, transformers for LC filters and matching, necessitating consideration of LC filters and matching transformers for enhancing voltage quality and efficiency to improve amplifier performance transmitted to SONAR transducers. However, previous research has focused on single-amplifier design methods, neglecting such considerations. Therefore, this paper proposes a design technique that overcomes the drawbacks of using the conventional design method by configuring multiple H-bridge inverters in a cascade format and utilizes one of the optimization algorithms, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), to derive amplifier design techniques that optimize component parameters for enhancing high-capacity amplifier performance. This paper presents an analysis of the fault current contributions of small‐scale single‐phase photovoltaic inverters under grid‐connected operation and their potential impact on the protection of distribution systems. To conduct this analysis, an autotransformer‐based voltage dip generator is proposed as a means to test the photovoltaic inverters' contribution to short‐circuit currents. Laboratory tests are then performed to obtain the short‐circuit current contribution of eight single‐phase photovoltaic inverters. Using the short‐circuit current data obtained, a behaviour model is developed and simulated on Matlab‐Simulink. The model is then applied to a real distribution system and case studies are conducted to simulate the potential impacts on the protection system. Results indicate that while the massive penetration of small‐scale single‐phase photovoltaic inverters can alter the protection system's operating time, the impacts are not significant. Only in very specific scenarios, such as events related to high impedance faults, some impact can be observed. In these situations, the presence of photovoltaic inverters further complicates the already difficult task of identifying high impedance faults through conventional overcurrent protections. This study provides valuable insights into the integration of photovoltaic inverters into distribution systems, and can aid in the development of effective protection measures for future grid designs. This paper presents a low voltage ride through (LVRT) control strategy using an active power oscillations based reference current generation approach for grid tied solar photo voltaic (SPV) system under line-to-ground (LG) and double line-to-ground (LLG) faults. Proposed control strategy minimizes the harmonics injected into the grid, as well as oscillations in injected reactive power and DC-link voltage. Further this control strategy provides a dynamic control of active and reactive powers, the flow of sinusoidal currents into the grid, and avoids the disconnection between the utility grid and SPV system during faults. Compared with the traditional grid-following photovoltaic grid-connected converter (GFL-PGC), the grid-forming photovoltaic grid-connected converter (GFM-PGC) can provide voltage and frequency support for power systems, which can effectively enhance the stability of power electronic power systems. Consequently, GFM-PGCs have attracted great attention in recent years. When an asymmetrical short-circuit fault occurs in the power grid, GFM-PGC systems may experience transient instability, which has been less studied so far. In this paper, a GFM-PGC system is investigated under asymmetrical short-circuit fault conditions. A novel Q-V droop control structure is proposed by improving the traditional droop control. The proposed control structure enables the system to accurately control the positive- and negative-sequence reactive current without switching the control strategy during the low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) period so that it can meet the requirements of the renewable energy grid code. In addition, a dual-loop control structure model of positive- and negative-sequence voltage and current is established for the GFM-PGC system under asymmetrical short-circuit fault conditions. Based on the symmetrical component method, the composite sequence network of the system is obtained under asymmetrical short-circuit fault conditions, and positive- and negative-sequence power-angle characteristic curves are analyzed. The influence law of system parameters on the transient synchronous stability of positive- and negative-sequence systems is quantitatively analyzed through the equal area criterion. The increasing popularity of electric drives employing an isolated dual-inverter (DI) topology is motivated by their superior DC-link voltage and power utilization, fault-tolerant operation, and potential for multilevel operation. These attributes are significant in battery-powered transportation, such as electric vehicles and aviation. Given the considerable freedom in modulation and control of the DI topology, this paper researches the impact of reference voltage vector distribution between the two individual inverters. The study also evaluates the influence of two well-established asynchronous modulation strategies—Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) and Depenbrock's Discontinuous Modulation (DPWM1). Since simulation tools nowadays play a crucial role in power electronics design and concept verification, the results are based on extensive and detailed models in Matlab/Simulink. Employing the basic field-oriented control of a 12 kW induction motor with precisely parameterized SiC switching devices for accurate loss calculation, this research reveals the possibility of significant energy savings at multiple operating points. Notably, optimal efficiency is achieved when one inverter operates up to half of the nominal speed while the other solely establishes a neutral point for the winding. Moreover, the results highlight DPWM1 as a superior strategy for the DI topology, showcasing reduced converter losses. Overall, it is shown that the system's losses can be significantly reduced just by the design of the voltage vector distribution in the drive's operating range and the modulation strategy selection. Summary: This paper proposes a new floor function single carrier‐based modulated model predictive current control technique (FF‐SC‐M2PC2T) by considering conventional nine‐level T‐type packed U‐cell (9L‐TPUC) inverter topology. To get desired peak value of load current with low harmonic distortion, the finite control set‐based model predictive control technique (FCS‐MPCT) has been reported in the literature considering load dynamics and minimization of the cost function. However, inherently it suffers from variable switching frequency (VSF) of operation. To diminish this issue, an M2PC2T has been implemented and it provides a constant switching frequency (CSF) of operation. Especially coming to the modulation stage, most authors generally use level‐shifted pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques which inherently require more carriers, if‐else conditions, and additional logical gate blocks to generate particular level output. Hence, the control complexity increases as going to higher‐level inverter topologies. In this manuscript, a new simple floor function single carrier‐based pulse width modulation (FF‐SC‐PWM) technique has been proposed which applies to any single‐phase switched capacitor type multilevel inverter topology and it can be easily integrated with a predictive control algorithm to regulate the inverter output current (IOC). Purpose: Static inverters are very important for the emergency energy distribution system of aircraft and similar machines. At the same time, the electrical energy produced at high frequency for electrical devices is used to reduce the weight of the cables in the aircraft and spacecraft because of the skin effect. In the high-frequency system, a thinner cable cross-section is used, and a great weight reduction occurs in the aircraft. So, fuel economy, less and late wear of the materials (landing gear, etc.) can be obtained with decreasing weight. This paper aims to present the development of a functional multilevel inverter (FMLI) with fractional sinus pulse width modulation (FSPWM) and a reduced number of switches to provide high-frequency and quality electrical energy conversion. Design/methodology/approach: After the production of FSPWM for FMLI with a reduced component, which, to the best of the authors' knowledge, is presented for the first time in this study, is explained step by step, and eight operating states are given according to different FSPWMs operating the circuit. The designed inverter and modulation technique are compared by testing the conventional modular multilevel inverter on different loads. Findings: According to application results, it is seen that there is a 50% reduction in cross-section from 100 Hz to 400 Hz with the skin effect. At 1000 Hz, there is a 90% cross-section reduction. The decrease can be in cable weights that may occur in aircraft from 10 kg to 100 kg according to different frequencies. It causes less harmonic distortion than conventional converters. This supports the safer operation of the system. Compared to the traditional system, the proposed system provides more amplitude in converting the source to alternating voltage and increases the efficiency. Practical implications: FSPWM is developed for multilevel inverters with reduced components at the high frequency and cascaded switching studies in the power electronics of aircraft. Social implications: Although the proposed system has less current and power loss as mentioned in the previous sections, it contains fewer power elements than conventional inverters that are equivalent for different hardware levels. This not only reduces the cost of the system but also provides ease of maintenance. To reduce the cable load in aircraft and create more efficient working conditions, 400 Hz alternative voltage is used. The proposed system causes less losses and lower harmonic distortions than traditional systems. This will reduce possible malfunctions and contribute to aircraft reliability for passengers and cargo. As technology develops, it is revealed that the proposed inverter system will be more efficient than traditional inverters when devices operating at frequencies higher than 400 Hz are used. With the proposed inverter, safer operation will be ensured, while there will be less energy loss, less fuel consumption and less carbon emissions to the environment. In order to reduce the sampling delay and improve bandwidth, sability margin, and the robustness of the active damping in LCL-filtered grid-connected inverters, real-time sampling provides a convenient method. However, aliasing is easily introduced in the control loop because of high-frequency switching harmonics, resulting in a rise in low-order harmonics. To address the challenge of aliasing under real-time sampling, a new method based on multisampling and mean filtering is proposed by combining the proposed harmonic detection and control methods in this paper. This method works by sampling and controlling the fundamental current and selective subharmonic currents separately. The fundamental current control loop without any additional filters maintains real-time sampling, while multisampling and mean filters are applied to the harmonic current control loop. The proposed control method can not only improve the dynamic response performance and control stability of the system but also effectively suppress the selective low-order current harmonics and the aliasing of sampling. Finally, the correctness of the proposed sampling scheme and control strategy is verified by the simulation based on R2018b, MathWorks, Natick, MA, USA and an experimental prototype of a three-phase grid-connected photovoltaic inverter rated at 230 V/50 Hz/40 kW. Photovoltaic (PV) systems are becoming essential to our energy landscape as renewable energy sources become more widely integrated into power networks. Preserving grid stability, especially during voltage sags, is one of the significant difficulties confronting the implementation of these technologies. This attribute is referred to as low-voltage ride-through (LVRT). To overcome this issue, adopting a Proportional-Integral (PI) controller, a control system standard, is proving to be an efficient solution. This paper provides a unique algorithm-based approach of the Marine Predator Algorithm (MPA) for optimized tuning of the used PI controller, mainly focusing on inverter control, to improve the LVRT of the grid, leading to improvements in the overshoot, undershoot, settling time, and steady-state response of the system. The fitness function is optimized using the MPA to determine the settings of the PI controller. This process helps to optimally design the controllers optimally, thus improving the inverter control and performance and enhancing the system's LVRT capability. The methodology is tested in case of a 3L-G fault. To test its validity, the proposed approach is compared with rival standard optimization-based PI controllers, namely Grey Wolf Optimization and Particle Swarm Optimization. The comparison shows that the used algorithm provides better results with a higher convergence rate with overshoot ranging from 14% to 40% less in the case of DC-Link Voltage and active power and also settling times in the case of MPA being less than PSO and GWO by 0.76 to 0.95 s. This paper introduces a hybrid multilevel inverter (MLI) with reduced switch count, which can generate higher output voltage level with minimum number of DC input sources. The operation of this proposed MLI is carried out with unequal DC sources to achieve the desired output voltage level. The reduced MLI output voltage is set to minimal total harmonic distortion (THD) with the help of modified JAYA (MJAYA) algorithm. A JAYA algorithm with improved steps by adopting an accelerating parameter has been proposed in this research work to obtain a faster convergence of the objective function. The MJAYA algorithm has provided the suitable switching angles for the proposed three-phase 15-level MLI and reduced the output voltage THD to 2.23%, which satisfies the standard set by IEEE-519. To prove the efficiency of this proposed modified algorithm, the comparative analysis is carried out through MATLAB program and Simulink tool using common JAYA and modified particle swarm optimisation algorithms. This paper presents a control scheme for virtual synchronous generators (VSGs) in PV inverters, designed to enhance grid frequency and voltage. Through the skillful management of active and reactive power, this control scheme enables PV inverters to interact seamlessly with the main grid in response to grid events, including voltage and frequency fluctuations. The VSG controller is implemented using Matlab Simulink, and its effectiveness is rigorously assessed under various scenarios in a case study involves a 50 kVA rated PV inverter, a 50 kW rated PV system, and a 220 V grid phase voltage. In conditions of low power generation from the PV system (solar radiation of 200 W/m²) and high load power (120 kW and 37.5 kVAr), the load voltage drops to 202.4 V. The VSG controller successfully raises the grid voltage by 17.6 V, stabilizing it at 220 V. Conversely, in scenarios of high PV power generation (solar radiation of 1000 W/m²) and low load power (20 kW and 7.5 kVAr), the grid voltage surges by 10 V, reaching 230 V. The proposed control strategy adeptly fine-tunes the voltage, ultimately stabilizing at 220 V. Summary: In this paper, a new floor function (F2) single‐carrier (SC)‐based modulated model predictive current control technique (M2PC2T) has been proposed by considering the conventional single‐phase five‐level packed U‐cell (PUC5) inverter topology. Generally, to regulate the output current, the finite control set‐based MPC technique without a modulator inherently operates with variable switching frequency, and it is unsuitable for industrial applications. To alleviate this, authors have implemented M2PC2T, which provides constant switching frequency of operation. In this technique, generally, the predictive algorithm has been integrated with any modulation stage. However, while the implementation of pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques, most authors have used conventional PWM techniques which further increases the control complexity as the level number increases. In this manuscript, a simple and generalized F2‐SC‐PWM technique has been proposed and integrated with the predictive algorithm. This PWM technique implementation process is very simple as compared with all conventional PWM techniques since even if the level number increases, the number of modulating and carrier signals is always only one. Finally, the complete closed‐loop control technique is called a generalized F2‐SC‐M2PC2T which is suitable for all stiff direct current (dc) sources and switched capacitor‐type multilevel inverter (MLI) topologies. T-type three-level inverters (T23LIs) are widely used in the electric drive system of new energy vehicles. However, the open-circuit (OC) faults of their switching devices will cause serious damage to the entire system operation. To mitigate the impact of switching faults, this paper proposes an OC fault diagnosis method based on the variations of common-mode voltage in small sectors of T23LI. Firstly, the normal characteristics of T23LI under SVPWM control algorithm are analyzed, and the correspondence between the space voltage vectors and the values of common-mode voltage is established. Then, the common-mode voltage variations under fault conditions are analyzed, and a fault diagnosis method based on these variations is proposed. The faults of the four switching devices in one phase is divided into two groups through the qualitative analysis of common-mode voltage variations, and the specific location of the faulty switch is located by further quantitative analysis. Finally, by analyzing the changes in the three-phase bridge output voltages after faults, the accurate location of the faults in the 12 switches of the three phases is located. Simulation and experimental results verify that the proposed method can accurately and quickly diagnose the single-switch OC faults of all switches, and it effectively accelerates the diagnosis speed and reduces costs by only requiring the collection of a single voltage signal. Transformerless grid-connected inverters for photovoltaic (PV) applications provide several advantages such as reduced cost and volume as well as an increased efficiency. However, the removal of the transformer gives rise to several problems related to leakage currents and electromagnetic interferences (EMI). This paper presents different chaotic unipolar sine-pulse width modulation (C-USPWM) techniques for a transformerless grid-connected PV inverter based on parameter selection. The main objective behind this proposed chaotic modulation technique is to reduce the conducted EMI without worsening the power quality and the common-mode voltage (CMV). The method is validated through numerical simulations and experimental tests carried out on laboratory prototype of an optimized H5 inverter (oH5). The obtained results showed its superiority to the conventional unipolar sine-pulse width modulation (USPWM). We showed also that the appropriate parameter selection of the C-UPSWM could advantageously combine an improved EMI performance and an efficient control, making it possible to deliver a significant reduction of the peaks' amplitudes in the frequency spectrum of the common-mode (CM) voltage. Energy crises and the growth of the energy demand have increased the interest in utilizing unconventional power sources. Thus, renewable energy sources have become a topic of interest to mitigate rising energy concerns and cope with increased electricity demand. With remarkable merits including cleanness and abundance, photovoltaic (PV) solar energy systems are a key to solving these issues. The employed inverters should effectively utilize the maximum available power from the PV solar system and transfer this power to the utility grid without posing any further limitations. However, the unequal power generation of different PV systems caused by partial shading (PS) and other PV panel degradation factors leads to a reduction in generation capacity. One of the relatively new solutions to mitigate the mismatch concerns between the PV modules and sub-modules is to extract the maximum power of each sub-module individually. The main objective of this paper is to present a comprehensive review of such PV grid-connected inverters topologies associated with sub-module connection and control. It will classify the PV grid-tied inverters in accordance with the level where the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system is implemented. A special focus has been placed on sub-module microinverters (MI) in terms of circuit topologies, conversion efficiency, and controller design. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of employing the distributed MPPT (DMPPT) approach to maximize the power generation of PV systems by mitigating the mismatch issues inside the PV module. The paper deals with a grid-connected single-phase battery charger integrated with photovoltaic generators (PVGs). The circuit topology consists of a multilevel architecture based on a Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) rectifier. Its main task is to charge the batteries, primarily from the PVGs, by also assuring to keep their state-of-charge (SOC) balanced. Nevertheless, when the battery SOC overcomes a predefined upper limit, beyond which the charging process could be interrupted, the available PV power can no longer be transferred to the batteries. Therefore, to avoid an undesired curtailment of PV power production, this latter can be supplied to the grid by inverting the system operation. The paper shows how to achieve this result by implementing a dedicated control action based on a multi-step procedure. Summary: Multilevel inverters have many applications, such as the grid integration of photovoltaic cells, FACTSs devices, electric vehicles, variable speed drives, and smart grids. In this paper, a new bidirectional diode‐based unit is proposed for a symmetric single‐phase modular inverter topology that can achieve high output levels by using a small number of switching and circuit devices. The basic structure can generate nine‐level voltage with only nine IGBTs and two diodes. Another advantage of the proposed topology is the utilization of a half‐bridge module to change the voltage polarity and the low number of its voltage sources. Additionally, the proposed topology can be used as the cascaded structure with different approaches to select the value of voltage sources. The power losses are discussed for the proposed basic module. A comparison has been made with some recently presented topologies to compare the proposed multilevel inverter and demonstrate its superiority. The comparison is performed for the basic module and its generalized structure. In this paper, the pulse width modulation technique is utilized to achieve a voltage waveform with low harmonic content. The proposed basic structure has an efficiency of 58.98% in 5KW power.
