This work presents the results of paper laser processing. It begins with the selection and examination of the processing parameters, then an examination of the properties of the modified papers and examples of applications of the developed modification method. The properties of laser-modified paper were studied using reflectance spectrophotometry to examine the colour aspects of the modified papers, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and confocal microscopy for a morphological analysis, and Raman spectroscopy to analyse the papers under the influence of laser light. The influence of laser processing on the wettability of paper and the evenness of unprinted and printed paper was also investigated. The knowledge gained on paper surface modification with laser light was used to propose several applications, such as methods of marking, tactile detection, the controlled removal of optical brightener, ink, and metallised coatings from paper packaging, highlighting the design and aesthetics of paper. Motivated by the inevitable trend of the Internet of Everything, human-machine interaction technology has gradually been permeated into people's daily life. Receptive devices that capture human behaviors and responsive devices that provide machine feedback are key components of human-machine interface. While it is a great challenge to integrate receptive and responsive devices in a well-organized way due to the limitations of material properties and device structures. In this work, we investigate the formation of laser-induced graphene on Nomex paper and propose an efficient interactive strategy based on its piezoresistive and thermoacoustic effects. Functional integration of receiving instructions (pressure-sensing capability) and providing feedback (sound-emitting capability) can be achieved by simply assembling three layers of Nomex paper that have been laser-customized on both sides. The integrated device not only has a sensitive response (∼12 relative current change and ∼50 ms response time) to the pressure similar to a gentle finger press (∼10 kPa), but also can emit a high-quality sound signal with larger sound pressure levels (∼70 dB at 1 W/cm2 power density). Furthermore, two proof-of-concept demonstrations, a press-to-audio pad and a command-responding thermo-earphone, are presented to substantiate the feasibility in information exchange activities. Porous graphene (PG) devices fabricated in situ from polyimide (PI) adhered onto paper substrates provide a cost‐effective and recycling‐friendly alternative to re‐engineer paper for liquid‐based power sources and sensors. However, paper is generally damaged due to heating during the fabrication of PG devices. Here integrated graphene‐paper electronics with exceptional thermal control through the proposed thermally localized laser graphitization (LLG) process is demonstrated, employing optimized ultrafast laser writing. LLG enables in situ fabrication of localized porous graphene (LPG) devices (>1775 K) on 65 µm thick PI tape adhered to paper without heating above 348 K. Laser parameters for LLG are predicted using an analytical temperature model and validated experimentally. The LLG is demonstrated by fabricating liquid electrolyte LPG micro‐supercapacitors and humidity sensors on liquid susceptible paper. It is envisaged that the scientific concepts proposed and demonstrated here will expedite the development of low‐cost, scalable, and chemically robust LPG devices on thermally sensitive substrates. Excimer Laser Coronary Atherectomy (ELCA) is a well-established therapy that emerged for the treatment of peripheral vascular atherosclerosis in the late 1980s, at a time when catheters and materials were rudimentary and associated with the most serious complications. Refinements in catheter technology and the introduction of improved laser techniques have led to their effective use for the treatment of a wide spectrum of complex coronary lesions, such as thrombotic lesions, severe calcific lesions, non-crossable or non-expandable lesions, chronic occlusions, and stent under-expansion. The gradual introduction of high-energy strategies combined with the contrast infusion technique has enabled us to treat an increasing number of complex cases with a low rate of periprocedural complications. An ultrafast and efficient strategy is developed to produce homogeneous GQDs through instantaneous photothermal gasification and recrystallization, revealing the promising potential for large-scale production. [Display omitted] Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) are attractive fluorescent nanoparticles that have wide applicability, are inexpensive, nontoxic, photostable, water-dispersible, biocompatible and environmental-friendly. Various strategies for the synthesis of GQDs have been reported. However, simple and efficient methods of producing GQDs with control over the size of the GQDs, and hence their optical properties, are sorely needed. Herein, an ultra-fast and efficient laser writing technique is presented as a means to produce GQDs with homogeneous size from graphene produced by the instantaneous photothermal gasification and recrystallization mechanism. Controlling the laser scan speed and output power, the yield of GQDs can reach to be about 31.458 mg/s, which shows promising potential for large-scale production. The entire process eliminates the need for chemical solvents or any other reagents. Notably, the prepared laser writing produced GQDs (LWP-GQDs) exhibit blue fluorescence under UV irradiation of 365 nm and the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates is measured at (0.1721, 0.123). Overall, this method exhibits superior advantages over the complex procedures and low yields required by other existing methods, and thus has great potential for the commercial applications. The recently emergent laser induced graphene paper (LIGP) has endowed the large-scale assembly of 2D electronics with freestanding and multifunctional natures. Liquid sensors, a crucial component in next-generation smart devices, were developed in this report through LIGP technology. Attributed to the one-step process of computer-aided laser scribing, the new sensor was fulfilled easily with arbitrary 2D shapes, sizes and array modalities. In comparison to indirect sensing manners existed majorly in polymer binder/substrate enabled carbon devices, the novel LIGP sensors with self-supported graphitic structures evidently showed multiple superiorities, including faster response, greater reproducibility, and higher sensitivity for micro-volume liquid detections. Benefiting from the laser-process dependent structures, we further proved the tunable sensing characteristics relying dominantly on specific surface area, a critical factor for introducing capillary pressure to facilitate liquid infiltration and electrical disruption. Additionally, a dual-mode liquid-recognition strategy based on both time and speed was creatively proposed for identification of various liquids. With successful utilization of 5 × 5 LIGP array for mapping the distribution of different fluid emissions on composite structures, we highly anticipate the escalation of LIGP sensors for commercialization, roll-to-roll manufacturing, and multimodal safety-assurance applications. Freestanding laser induced graphene paper (LIGP) based liquid sensors were fabricated for fast response, micro-volume detection, and accurate liquid identifications. The laser power dependent specific surface area dominantly controls the capillary pressure for disrupting the conducting network, showing clear superiority to other matrix swelling based mechanisms. A new, simple and low‐cost method for patterning hydrophobic barriers in porous support such as paper by Parafilm® has been introduced. This method is then used for electrochemical paper‐based ammonia sensor construction. Ammonia sensor is based on electrochemical concentration cell which ammonia reaction with electrolyte in halves cell caused in concentration gradient and therefore potential difference dependent on ammonia concentration. The effect of concentrations of the involved chemicals, time periods of the required processes, the presence of Faraday cage as well as the effects of different salts used in the salt bridge on the response of the sensor, were investigated in order to find the optimized conditions. This article presents results of a pulsed UV laser method for the simultaneous reduction of graphite oxide (GO) and patterning of reduced graphene oxide (rGO). This direct laser writing method was applied to the fabrication of graphene-based, in-plane interdigitated micro-supercapacitors (μ-SCs), prepared on free-standing GO paper (10 μm thick). The electrochemical performance of μ-SCs was studied using two different electrolytes (KOH and NaCl). The results from cyclic voltammetry measurements exhibited typical electrical double layer behavior, with specific capacitances of 9.3 μF/cm2 and 13.8 μF/cm2 (at a scan rate of 10 mV/s) for KOH and NaCl electrolytes, respectively. The μ-SCs exhibited good performance, with retention of 95% of the original capacitance values after 3400 charge-discharge cycles. When compared to devices obtained by conventional lithographic techniques, the laser fabrication of planar μ-SCs is faster, cost-effective and scalable. Inspired by the emerging field of twistronics, moiré photonic structures have attracted great interest. In this paper, we introduce the concept of the moiré Kagome lattice (MKL), which arises from the overlapping of a Kagome lattice at a commensurable angle of 38.211°. MKL exhibits a significantly broader main photonic bandgap (PBG) when compared to the traditional Kagome lattice. Through numerical simulations, we delved into the adjustable properties of the PBG of MKL by varying lattice parameters, including filling factors and materials. Meanwhile, we also observed the presence of photonic flatbands within the MKL structure. Specifically, the emergence of a super flat isolated flatband aids in achieving single-mode omnidirectional lasers and enhancing the omnidirectional electromagnetic interaction of materials, thereby expanding the applications of moiré photonic crystals. This paper introduces an autonomous robot designed for in-pipe structural health monitoring of oil/gas pipelines. This system employs a 3D Optical Laser Scanning Technical Vision System (TVS) to continuously scan the internal surface of the pipeline. This paper elaborates on the mathematical methodology of 3D laser surface scanning based on dynamic triangulation. This paper presents the mathematical framework governing the combined kinematics of the Mobile Robot (MR) and TVS. It discusses the custom design of the MR, adjusting it to use of robustized mathematics, and incorporating a laser scanner produced using a 3D printer. Both experimental and theoretical approaches are utilized to illustrate the formation of point clouds during surface scanning. This paper details the application of the simple and robust mathematical algorithm RANSAC for the preliminary processing of the measured point clouds. Furthermore, it contributes two distinct and simplified criteria for detecting defects in pipelines, specifically tailored for computer processing. Silicon carbide fiber reinforced silicon carbide ceramic matrix composite (CMC SiC f /SiC) has the advantages of high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, high strength, low density, and oxidation resistance. It is a high-performance advanced material in aerospace, energy and other fields. However, due to its high hardness, brittleness and anisotropy of fiber structure, the research on application-oriented high-quality processing technology has become a hot issue. In this paper, a new process of rotational thirteen-beam coupling nanosecond laser processing of CMC-SiC f /SiC was studied. The rotational thirteen-beam coupling ablation experiments were carried out on CMC-SiC f /SiC workpiece. A laser beam is divided into thirteen beams and rotated around the beam center by using a beam splitter element. The morphology, structure and composition of ablation holes at different speeds were observed and analyzed by laser confocal microscope, scanning electron microscope, and X-ray energy dispersive spectrometer. It is found that the characteristics of rotational beam coupling have a significant effect on the laser ablation morphologies. The results show that the ablation region of CMC-SiC f /SiC is elliptical due to the fast heat transfer of fibers. The energy density distribution of the waist section of the Gaussian like beam after beam coupling is similar to the "W" shape, and the central energy is lower than the surrounding energy, and the ablation holes also show a similar "W" shape. With the increase of rotational speed, the hole depth first decreased and then increased, the hole diameter and roundness first increased and then decreased, and the hole section was "W" shaped. The ablation area can be divided into five parts: the white granular SiO 2 solid coverage area, the recast layer, the lower recast layer, the molten layer, and the heat affected zone. The rotational characteristics will make the reaction intensity of the whole ablation area more uniform in the circumferential direction. The formation mechanism and element distribution of each part were explored. The research work in this paper will provide a new technical way for the high-performance application of CMC-SiC f /SiC. Pavement adhesion plays a crucial role in driving safety, while traditional test methods exhibit some limitations. To improve the efficiency and accuracy of asphalt pavement texture characterization and adhesion assessments, this paper uses three-dimensional (3D) laser technology to detect the continuous point cloud data of road surface and reconstruct the 3D topography of pavement texture. On this basis, a volume parameter Volume of peak materials (Vmp) is innovatively proposed to comprehensively characterize the 3D spatial characteristics of road surface texture. The correlation analysis between the proposed Vmp and the traditional adhesion evaluation index Transversal Adhesion Coefficient (CAT) is conducted, and then refined graded adhesion prediction models based on the proposed Vmp are proposed. Results show that the proposed volume parameter Vmp can reliably and accurately characterize the asphalt pavement texture by considering more structural properties of the road surface texture. According to the research findings of this paper, it is feasible to achieve rapid and correct assessment of asphalt pavement adhesion using 3D laser detection technology by comprehensively considering the 3D characteristics of the road surface texture. Narrowband laser sources are used in applications that require high-precision or stable optical frequency. Such applications include high-resolution spectroscopy, long-distance measurement, and coherent optical communication. The linewidth of a laser is a direct measure of the laser's stability; therefore, characterization of laser linewidth is essential. In practice, however, determining a laser's linewidth is not a trivial task and typically requires expensive equipment or a complex experimental arrangement. This paper presents a straightforward, low-cost method based on unbalanced interferometry, which allows us to determine the visibility of fringe patterns as a function of the optical path difference and, consequently, the linewidth of the laser. As a test laser, we use a tunable external cavity laser source at around 780 nm, where an interference filter is employed for wavelength selection. Data obtained by applying the interferometric technique to this laser and the analysis of these data, along with the resulting linewidth value, are presented. Given that the described measurement setup is inexpensive, straightforward, and pedagogically accessible, it is well-suited for an instructional physics laboratory experiment and will also be of interest to laboratory researchers. The Magnetic Pulse Compression (MPC) system is a well-established method for generating high-peak-power, short-duration voltage pulses, commonly used in pulse power supplies (PPS). Traditionally designed for a fixed high repetition rate, this paper explores the techniques and outcomes of variable repetition rate operation in an MPC-based PPS used to excite a copper vapor laser (CVL). Specifically, the PPS, initially designed for 9 kHz operation, is tested at three different rates: 8 kHz, 9 kHz, and 10 kHz. A mathematical model is developed, and experimental modifications are presented in this paper. The study investigates the impact of repetition rate variations on CVL parameters, particularly phantom current (Phantom current: 47% at 8 kHz, 54% at 9 kHz, and 51% at 10 kHz). Phantom current reduces at 10 kHz due to improved impedance matching. At 8 kHz, the laser output is 24W, increases to 30W at 9 kHz and 43W at 10 kHz with a plane-plane resonator configuration. This trend extends to the master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) at 10 kHz, resulting in a 50% increase in optical power output compared to 9 kHz. This improvement at 10 kHz applies to various parameters, including optical pulse characteristics, average power, electro-optic efficiency, energy per pulse, reduced jitter, and impedance matching. Traditional flatness detection method with 2-m ruler and feeler gauge can only manually measure to obtain data at sparse locations. Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) has been widely used in the detection task of small-scale components. To overcome the time-consuming and laborious problem of traditional method and extend the application of TLS-based method, an efficient, full-coverage and intelligent TLS-based flatness detection method applicable to large-scale floors is presented in this paper to help with the acceptance of emery floor. An algorithm is designed to find the optimal position of ruler above the ground profile and measure the deviation between ruler and ground. The results of two comparison experiments demonstrates that the TLS-based method proposed in this paper has a high detection accuracy. In the detection task of a super-flat emery floor, floor plan labeled with pass rates can be easily obtained. Color maps marked with unqualified areas can be used as a guide for concrete polishing. • Laser and photochemistry were first used in restoring and transformation of PbS on painted cultural relics. • Targeted fast realization of restoring and transformation of PbS, and without damage to the base color. • Laser catalysis restoration has wide applicability to papers, the silks and other organic materials. Lead white darkening is a common disease in all kinds of painted cultural relics. In this study, a combination of laser and photodynamic technology was used to achieve controlled restoration of lead sulfide at the lead darkening site on the painted layer of cultural relics by laser catalysis with porphyrin to produce singlet oxygen. The chromatic change, micromorphology and chemical composition were systematically studied for a simulated sample with the lead darkening part of the painted layer. The results show that laser catalytic treatment can repair the color darkening that occurs by the PbS formation, while no obvious changes to the pore and microparticle structure of the painted layer and the base. In this study, the pollutant of lead sulfide was proved to be converted into lead sulfate by oxidation, and then was converted to lead white by precipitation, which was the original composition of the pigment. It is also found that the laser catalytic treatment method can effectively avoid basic layer damages of cultural relics, especially for the papers, the silks and other organic materials. This technology not only provides a new approach for the restoration and transformation of PbS on painted cultural relics, but also makes available new applications for the laser and photodynamic technology in the field of cultural relics protection. Hybrid and picosecond lasers are highlighted for their versatility and effectiveness in addressing a wide array of skin concerns. The findings also emphasize the development of safer treatment protocols for ethnic skin, significantly reducing risks like hyperpigmentation and scarring, thus broadening the scope of effective dermatological solutions.This extensive review of advancements in laser technologies for skin rejuvenation underscores a remarkable evolution in dermatological treatments, offering an expansive overview of the efficacy, safety, and patient satisfaction associated with these interventions. The availability of high-power lasers open new frontiers of Terahertz (THz) optics. In this paper, we present a mechanism for the enhanced THz field generation from the laser wakefield excitation during the interaction of an amplitude-modulated laser filament with a magnetized plasma. The derivation of electric and magnetic wakefields in axially magnetized plasma is obtained using the perturbative approach. Amplitude-modulated laser filament generates a significantly stronger transverse current due to laser intensity redistribution by the amplitude modulation. The modulation index of the amplitude modulated laser pulse is used to control the transverse current at THz frequency. Fourfold enhancement takes place in THz field strength for higher values of the modulation index (0–0.4). Also, the conversion efficiency of this mechanism is estimated as 1 0 − 4 that can be enhanced for higher modulation index. Scaling laws are provided for controlling and optimization of generated THz field. Real-time control systems of macro-micro manipulators commonly confront time-delay challenges to achieve high precision and synchronization performance, because macro and micro subsystems always have significant difference mainly in mechanical inertia. In this paper, a self-designed PC-based real-time controller utilized in laser on-the-fly processing is introduced as a study case of macro-micro systems. A dynamic time-delay compensation method for this case is proposed based on efficient fuzzy-model prediction and special data compression/extension algorithm. This method takes account of the practical time-delay fluctuation and has capability of adjusting the compensator adaptively rather than fixing the compensator as a constant, compared with the conventional static compensation. Experimental results show that, after applying the dynamic compensation, the process error caused by time-delay is eliminated from 1.059 mm to 0.001 mm, while the quality of synchronization appears even better than the static compensation with the error of 0.014 mm. Besides, the proposed method is computationally optimized, and the extra load of real-time kernel merely fluctuates within 3 % of the total computation performance capacity. • Time-delay affects synchronization performance badly in macro-micro control system. • Real-time fuzzy-model prediction is utilized to compensate time-delay dynamically. • Control data is redistributed after compensation by compression/extension algorithm. • The method improves process precision efficiently and suits broad industrial practice. Carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) plays an increasingly important role in many fields, and the non-destructive testing (NDT) for its defects is drawing more and more attention. In this paper, a finite element model is established and the surface temperature difference between the defective and non-defective areas is selected as the characteristic quantity to systematically study the impact of three parameters, such as scanning direction, laser power and scanning speed, on the detection effect in the line laser scanning thermography NDT system. Qualitatively, the scanning direction is consistent with the carbon fibre orientation, the higher the laser power, and the slower the scanning speed is, the more favourable the defect detection. Further, the data obtained from the simulation are fitted, and the results show that the scanning speed and laser power have exponential and linear relationships with the maximum temperature difference, respectively. A related experimental system was established, the laser power was set to 7-, 10-, 13- and 15 W as well as the scanning speed to 10-,20-, 40- and 50 mm/s, to investigate the temperature variation of CFRP specimens containing artificial defects. To study the influence of different cleaning methods on the corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel surface, this paper carried out polarisation curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy studied on the uncleaned, acid pickling cleaning, and picosecond laser cleaning samples. The surface morphology of the samples after electrochemical testing was detected by laser confocal microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, and then the electrochemical corrosion behaviour of the samples in 3.5% NaCl solution was analysed under different cleaning methods. The results show that compared with the uncleaned sample, the corrosion potential of the sample after picosecond laser cleaning was relatively improved. At this time, the corrosion current density was as low as 2.29 × 10–6 A/cm2, the polarisation resistance value was as high as 18615 Ω·cm2, the impedance modulus was as high as 5.5 × 105 Ω, and the capacitance-impedance radius reached the maximum value. This paper employed a scaling analysis to represent the processing parameters, affecting the melting process in the dimensionless numbers, identify the relationships of these dimensionless numbers, and develop semi-empirical correlations to predict the width and depth of the melt pool. To develop the correlations, Ti-6Al-4V powder was used to print 38 tracks at various processing conditions. The correlations were then fit into this experimental data using python code to find the constants of the correlations. The correlations were then used to predict the depth and width of the melt pools. It was found that the mean discrepancy between the predicted melt pool dimensions and the experiment is 7%. To evaluate the accuracy of the correlation in predicting the melt pool dimensions of the materials never used during the development of the correlations, the melt pool depth of some tracks made out of stainless steel 316L printed at various conditions was predicted using the model, and it was found that the mean discrepancy between the predicted melt pool depth and experiment is 11%. In this paper, we have studied the influence of laser polarization on the dynamics of the ionization-injected electron beams, and subsequently, the properties of the emitted betatron radiation in laser wakefield accelerators (LWFAs). While ionizing by strong field laser radiation, the generated photo-electrons carry a residual transverse momentum in excess of the ionization potential via the above threshold ionization (ATI) process. This ATI momentum explicitly depends on the polarization state of the ionizing laser and eventually governs the dynamics of the electron beam trapped inside the wake potential. In order to systematically investigate the effect of the laser polarization, here, we have employed complete three-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations in the nonlinear bubble regime of the LWFAs. We focus, in particular, on the effects the laser polarization has on the ionization injection mechanism, and how these features affect the final beam properties, such as beam charge, energy, energy spread, and transverse emittance. We have also found that as the laser polarization gradually changes from linear to circular, the helicity of the electron trajectory, and hence the angular momentum carried by the beam, increases significantly. Studies have been further extended to reveal the effect of laser polarization on the radiation emitted by the accelerated electrons. The far-field radiation spectra have been calculated for the linear and circular polarization states of the laser. It has been shown that the spatial distributions and the polarization properties (Stokes parameters) of the emitted radiation in the above two cases are substantially different. Therefore, our study provides a facile and efficient alternative to regulate the properties of the accelerated electron beams and x-ray radiation in LWFAs, utilizing ionization injection mechanism. The diamagnetic susceptibility and binding energy (BE) of a hydrogenic donor confined in a GaAs/AlGaAs QWW were theoretically studied in this paper under the influences of the applied laser field, QWW geometry, and non-parabolicity using variation technique combined with effective mass approximation. In the first part, the diamagnetic susceptibility and BE of the donor at the ground state are studied as a function of the size of the QWW, geometry, and applied laser field. The results reveal that changing the geometry of QWW enhances the quantum confinement effects. However, increasing the laser field reduces the BE by adding screening effects to the Coulomb interactions. Further, the diamagnetic susceptibility is available with the stability information about the carrier–parent donor system based on the mean square separation between them. It also demonstrates that susceptibility may remain stable regardless of the change in geometry and applied laser field. Thus, the diamagnetic behavior can serve as a better tool to evaluate the stability and Mott transition of donors in QWW. In the second section, the consequences of laser field and geometry on the SMT of confined donors in QWW have been studied. It is observed that the BE of donors remains constant until N ∼ 1 0 1 5  cm − 1 beyond which it starts to decrease gradually and vanishes exactly at critical concentration ( N c). However, the diamagnetic susceptibility of the donor has remained constant until reaching N c , beyond which it turned into a drastic fall, which manifested the SMT in the system. In this paper, we analyze, under realistic experimental conditions, entanglement and quantum discord in a two-mode Gaussian state ρAB coupled to a thermal reservoir. The mode A(B) is generated during the first(second) transition of a nondegenerate three-level laser. The gain medium of the laser is a set of three-level atoms in a cascade configuration. The atoms are prepared initially in a superposition of the upper and lower levels. In the good cavity-limit, applying the master equation we obtain the covariance matrix of the state ρAB at steady-state. We use the entanglement of formation and the Gaussian quantum discord to quantify entanglement and quantum correlations beyond entanglement, respectively. The two indicators of nonclassicality are defined by means of the von Neumann entropy, and obtained as functions of the parameters characterizing the physical and environmental parameters of the state ρAB, i.e. atomic coherence, dissipation and thermal photon number. As results, we find that maximum entanglement and discord could be achieved by adjusting the degree of atomic coherence. In contrary to the expectation based on the assumption that entanglement is a part of quantum discord, it is found that the latter can be less than the former. Under thermal noise effect, we find that quantum discord measured when the state ρAB exhibits entanglement diminishes drastically, while that measured when the ρAB is separable displays a relatively robust behavior seeming to be captured over a wide range of temperature. Our results assert that nondegenerate three-level lasers may play a crucial role in the implementation of quantum processing tasks, particularly those who do not need entangled states. With the advancing energy transition, icing is a growing problem in the wind turbine sector. The development of systems to detect and mitigate icing makes it necessary to understand its basic behavior and characteristics. This paper proposes a method for the continuous and full-field measurement of the icing process of rotating blades, using a single line laser profile scanner. Inside of a climate chamber, a rotor is driven by a motor, while a system of nozzles provides a fine water dust, which leads to ice accumulating on simple NACA blades, which in turn is measured by a triangulation laser. The measurement data are cleared from outliers and presented as a surface in 3D space. An alpha shape is used to reconstruct and extract the volume of the ice between a reference and a measurement surface, using the corresponding Matlab function. Appropriate input parameters for the function and offsetting of the reference surface to improve the results are compared and discussed. Background Aims Methods Conclusions Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a prevalent form of hair loss that affects both men and women, severely impacting patients' quality of life. Traditional treatments include oral medications, topical medications, and hair transplantation, but these methods have certain side effects and limitations. How to safely effectively and maximally promote hair growth has been a key issue in the treatment of AGA. In recent years, fractionated laser therapy, as a noninvasive method, has gradually gained attention due to its minimally invasive and highly effective nature.In this paper, we summarized the studies related to fractional laser treatment of AGA in the past 15 years, and discussed its therapeutic mechanism, clinical effect, future development direction, and advantages and disadvantages compared with traditional treatment methods in the treatment of AGA.An extensive literature search was conducted using PubMed, Google, Google Scholar, Embase, and Scopus. All available articles studying fractional laser treatment of AGA were compiled in March 2024. Titles and abstracts were then screened for relevance and thoroughly examined for patient clinical outcomes. Prospective clinical trials, retrospective chart reviews, case series, and individual case reports were included in the literature review.Fractional laser treatment of AGA showed remarkable efficacy and high safety. Compared with traditional treatments, fractional laser has the advantages of minimally invasive, quick recovery, fewer side effects, and a wide range of population applicability, providing an effective treatment option for AGA patients. Topological photonics shows considerable promise in revolutionizing photonic devices through the use of topological phases, leading to innovations like topological lasers that enhance light control. One of the recent breakthroughs is reducing the size of these systems by utilizing lower‐dimensional boundary states, notably via higher‐order topological phases. This paper presents the experimental demonstration of a topological laser in an anomalous quadrupole topological phase, an instance of higher‐order phases. To facilitate this, a topological nanocavity with a quality factor near 6000 is engineered through a twisting operation. The topological nature of this system is validated by the calculation of nested Wannier centers and the emergency condition of corner states. The experimental observations reveal the manifestation of corner states and the achievement of single‐mode pulsed laser, driven by an optical gain from multiple quantum wells at telecommunication wavelengths and a temperature of 4 K. A lasing threshold of 23 µW and a cold quality factor of 1500 are deduced through rate equation. In this paper, a study of surface plasma wave excitation from a magnetized metallic surface using two co-propagating lasers is conducted. Two lasers propagating in the same direction with frequency difference of plasmon frequency of the metal excite plasma oscillations on the metallic surface, which generate surface plasma waves. The transverse components of the field associated with these surface plasma wave lead to excite transverse current at terahertz frequency. The present paper deals with effect of exponential density transition on self-focusing of amplitude-modulated laser in plasma. Density of plasma changes due to the ponderomotive nonlinearity which comes into play due to non-uniform spatial profile of laser beam leading to efficient selffocusing. This paper explores the production of linearly polarized laser output in a diode-pumped Yb:YAG laser at various pumping coupling ratios. To investigate the polarization mode locking mechanism with various pump coupling ratios, variations in beat frequency and beam profiles associated with different polarization states were analyzed. The study confirmed that the emission of linearly polarized laser with different mode-matching coefficients results from the coherent superposition of two orthogonally polarized eigenmodes within the resonator. Importantly, the experiment showed that adjusting pump coupling ratios allows achieving linearly polarized emission. Notably, within a specific range, linearly polarized laser emission remains unaffected by pumping coupling ratios. Beam quality factor measurements reveal that the beam quality of linearly polarized laser, generated through coherent superposition, surpasses that of partially polarized laser, with all beam quality factors being less than 1.5. This paper presents a flexible method for directly generating an orthogonally polarized dual-wavelength double pulse Pr: YLF visible laser. A theoretical model is established to reveal the oscillation mechanism of the orthogonally polarized dual-wavelength double pulse laser. Theoretical results demonstrate that the ratio of orthogonally polarized dual-wavelength laser intensity and master-slave pulse energy, along with the time delay between the master and slave pulses, can be controlled by the insertion angle of the acousto-optic element and the double step losses of the signal generator. These theoretical results have been verified in experiments. We obtained a maximum output power of 145 mW for the orthogonally polarized dual-wavelength double pulse laser, with π-polarization at 604 nm and σ-polarization at 607 nm. In this work, we focus on the prediction of the influence of CO2 laser parameters on the kerf properties of cut spruce wood. Laser kerf cutting is mainly characterized by the width of kerf and the width of the heat-affected zone, which depend on the laser power, cutting speed, and structure of the cut wood, represented by the number of cut annual rings. According to the measurement results and ANN prediction results, for lower values of the laser power (P) and cutting speed (v), the effect of annual rings (ARs) is non-negligible. The results of the sensitivity analysis show that the effect of v increases at higher energy density (E) values. With P in the range between 100 and 500 W, v values between 3 and 50 mm·s−1, and AR numbers between 3 and 11, the combination of P = 200 W and v = 50 mm·s−1, regardless of the AR value, leads to the best cut quality for spruce wood. In this paper, the main goal is to show how changes in the input parameters affect the characteristics of the cutting kerf and heat-affected zones for all possible input parameter values. Although the field of geomatics has seen multiple technological advances in recent years which enabled new applications and simplified the consolidated ones, some tasks remain challenging, inefficient, and time- and cost-consuming. This is the case of accurate tridimensional surveys of narrow spaces. Static laser scanning is an accurate and reliable approach but impractical for extensive tunnel environments; on the other hand, portable laser scanning is time-effective and efficient but not very reliable without ground control constraints. This paper describes the development process of a novel image-based multi-camera system meant to solve this specific problem: delivering accurate, reliable, and efficient results. The development is illustrated from the system conceptualization and initial investigations to the design choices and requirements for accuracy. Laser inter-satellite links (LISLs) are crucial for enabling rapid information exchange within low earth orbit (LEO) constellations. Previous research on laser link establishment often relied on the idealized probability density function (PDF) of the pointing uncertainty regions (PURs) when designing scan-and-capture methods, neglecting the impact of various practical uncertainties. To address the above issues, there is an urgent need to analyze the practical uncertainties to enhance the stability and reliability of LISL. This paper first provides a comprehensive introduction to the alignment process in LISL and mathematically formulates typical sources of uncertainty errors. Subsequently, a generalized system model (GSM) for laser link establishment was established at three stages: Orbit, Attitude, and Laser terminal. Finally, we integrate uncertainty models into the GSM and propose a PUR generating method to obtain precise PDFs. The research method proposed in this study can consider the influence of multiple uncertainties and generate the PDF for the PURs. Compared with traditional research, the PDF obtained by fitting the oscillation range considering dynamics is more detailed. This paper analyzes the tribological behavior of the Ti6Al4V ELI alloy subjected to laser texturization for medical purposes. Laser texturing enables one to observe specific patterns of the material surface at established depths. Microtexturing of the samples was performed using a 355 nm picosecond laser. The influence of the microtexturing process (depending on the process parameters) on the geometric parameters of the proposed laser texturing pattern was evaluated. Selected samples were subjected to tribological testing using the ball-on-plate technique in dry and lubricant-sliding methods (in Ringer solution). The wear properties were evaluated by comparing the coefficient friction, wear volumes, and wear ratio. A scanning electron microscope characterized the morphologies of the wear scar and the wear mechanism. The experimental results show that the surface texturing and the changes in microgrooves can reduce wear. The results indicate, that samples after laser texturing were characterized by 15% higher microhardness, compared to those in the initial state. It was found, a 26% reduction in friction coefficient and 29% in the wear volume compared to the smooth, untextured surface samples under lubricated conditions. The decrease in value of the coefficient friction and wear volume for the samples after the laser texturing process is an effect of synergistic of entrapped wear debris in micro-grooves and increased hardness for samples after laser textured. The use of matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry for the analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates is a well‐established technique and this review is the 12th update of the original article published in 1999 and brings coverage of the literature to the end of 2022. As with previous review, this review also includes a few papers that describe methods appropriate to analysis by MALDI, such as sample preparation, even though the ionization method is not MALDI. The review follows the same format as previous reviews. It is divided into three sections: (1) general aspects such as theory of the MALDI process, matrices, derivatization, MALDI imaging, fragmentation, quantification and the use of computer software for structural identification. (2) Applications to various structural types such as oligo‐ and polysaccharides, glycoproteins, glycolipids, glycosides and biopharmaceuticals, and (3) other general areas such as medicine, industrial processes, natural products and glycan synthesis where MALDI is extensively used. Much of the material relating to applications is presented in tabular form. MALDI is still an ideal technique for carbohydrate analysis, particularly in its ability to produce single ions from each analyte and advancements in the technique and range of applications show little sign of diminishing. Aluminum–air (Al–air) batteries are considered one of the most promising next-generation energy storage devices. In this paper, we carry out an orthogonal experimental study on the SLM printing process parameters in 3D-printed Al–air battery anodes. The surface roughness, densification, and discharge performance of the electrodes under different process parameters are observed to reveal the effects of different process parameters on the forming quality and discharge performance of aluminum–air battery anodes. The results show that the laser power is the most important factor affecting the surface roughness of the porous aluminum anode, and the scanning spacing is the most important factor affecting the densification. The best printing parameters for the porous aluminum anode can be obtained when the laser power is 325 W, the scanning speed is 1000 mm/s, the scanning spacing is 0.12 mm, and the thickness of the powder spread is 0.03 mm. At this time, the surface roughness of the porous aluminum anode obtained by this process parameter is 15.01 μm, the densification is 94.97%, and the discharge is stable with a high value. Existing galvanometer-based laser-scanning systems are challenging to apply in multi-scale 3D reconstruction because of the difficulty in achieving a balance between a high reconstruction accuracy and a wide reconstruction range. This paper presents a novel method that synchronizes laser scanning by switching the field-of-view (FOV) of a camera using multi-galvanometers. Beyond the advanced hardware setup, we establish a comprehensive geometric model of the system by modeling dynamic camera, dynamic laser, and their combined interaction. Furthermore, since existing calibration methods mainly focus on either dynamic lasers or dynamic cameras and have certain limitations, we propose a novel high-precision and flexible calibration method by constructing an error model and minimizing the objective function. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by scanning standard components. The results show that the proposed 3D reconstruction system achieves an accuracy of 0.3 mm when the measurement range is extended to 1100 mm × 1300 mm × 650 mm. This demonstrates that for meter-scale reconstruction ranges, a sub-millimeter measurement accuracy is achieved, indicating that the proposed method realizes multi-scale 3D reconstruction and simultaneously allows for high-precision and wide-range 3D reconstruction in industrial applications. Adhesive bonding has gradually replaced mechanical connections as the primary method for composite material bonding, with surface quality being the key factor determining the effectiveness of composite material adhesion. Laser surface treatment, known for its green and precise characteristics, has garnered widespread attention from both academia and industry. However, the process parameters of laser surface treatment are complex, efficiency is low, and the mechanism remains unclear. This paper, based on the response surface methodology (RSM), investigates the influence of laser secondary parameters on the resin removal rate of carbon fiber reinforced polymer/plastic (CFRP) surfaces and the impact of defocusing on surface treatment efficiency. The results indicate that when the total laser energy density (Et) is 69 J/cm2, the overlap ratio in the warp direction (OLs) is 76%, and the overlap ratio in the weft direction (OLh) is 85%, the surface tensile shear strength increases by 90.59% and 27.77% compared to the original surface and polished surface, respectively. When the defocus distance is +8 mm, the efficiency of laser surface treatment is 2.25 times that of non‐defocus, with minimal impact on mechanical performance. The surface treatment mechanism, with changes in Et, primarily involves the pure thermal decomposition of the resin matrix in an oxygen‐free environment, oxidative decomposition, and the synergistic action of the decomposition products' oxidation. Through the coupled optimization of laser process parameters, this work enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of composite material adhesive surface treatment, promoting the engineering application of laser technology. This paper focuses on optimizing the laser cladding process parameters of WC/Inconel 625 composite on a low-carbon steel substrate. This process aims to improve industrial parts' wear and corrosion properties in corrosive and high-temperature environments. Laser power, laser cladding speed, powder-feeding rate, and WC content percentage were process input parameters, each at three levels. The dilution ratio and micro-hardness of samples were considered as process responses. Taguchi orthogonal arrays were employed for experimental design, and the results were analyzed using signal-to-noise ratio and analysis of variance. A linear regression model was developed to understand the relationship between process parameters and responses. In addition, two-objective optimization of the process parameters using the second-generation non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II), and a hybrid algorithm based on the multi-objective whale optimization algorithm (MOWOAGA) were carried out to determine the optimal parameters that minimize the dilution ratio and maximize the cladding hardness. The results showed that the laser power and the powder-feeding rate have the most excellent effect on the dilution ratio. In contrast, WC content percentage and powder-feeding rate strongly affect micro-hardness. Based on the applied meta-heuristic algorithms and confirmed by experimental tests, the laser power of 370 W, laser cladding speed of 4 mm/s, powder-feeding rate of 8 g/min, and WC content percentage of 20.5% are the most optimal process parameters that lead to micro-hardness of 397 Vickers and dilution percentage of 2.5%. Quantum electrodynamic (QED) plasmas, describing the intricate interplay of strong-field QED and collective pair plasma effects, play pivotal roles in astrophysical settings like those near black holes or magnetars. However, the creation of observable QED plasmas in laboratory conditions was thought to require ultra-intense lasers beyond the capabilities of existing technologies, hindering experimental verification of QED plasma theories. This paper provides a comprehensive review of recent studies outlining a viable approach to create and detect observable QED plasmas by combining existing electron beam facilities with state-of-the-art lasers. The collision between a high-density 30 GeV electron beam and a 3 PW laser initiates a QED cascade, resulting in a pair plasma with increasing density and decreasing energy. These conditions contribute to a higher plasma frequency, enabling the observation of ∼ 0.2 % laser frequency upshift. This solution of the joint production-observation problem should facilitate the near-term construction of ultra-intense laser facilities both to access and to observe the realm of strong-field QED plasmas. To quantitatively evaluate the effect of the process parameters and the material properties on the temperature in laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), this paper proposed a sensitivity analysis of the temperature based on the validated prediction model. First, three different heat source modes—point heat source, Gaussian surface heat source, and Gaussian body heat source—were introduced. Then, a case study of Ti6Al4V is conducted to determine the suitable range of heat source density for the three different heat source models. Based on this, the effects of laser processing parameters and material thermophysical parameters on the temperature field and molten pool size are quantitatively discussed based on the Gaussian surface heat source. The results indicate that the Gaussian surface heat source and the Gaussian body heat source offer higher prediction accuracy for molten pool width compared to the point heat source under similar processing parameters. When the laser energy density is between 40 and 70 J/mm3, the prediction accuracy of the Gaussian surface heat source and the body heat source is similar, and the average prediction errors are 4.427% and 2.613%, respectively. When the laser energy density is between 70 and 90 J/mm3, the prediction accuracy of the Gaussian body heat source is superior to that of the Gaussian surface heat source. Among the influencing factors, laser power exerts the greatest influence on the temperature field and molten pool size, followed by scanning speed. In particular, laser power and scan speed contribute 38.9% and 23.5% to the width of the molten pool, 39.1% and 19.6% to the depth of the molten pool, and 38.9% and 21.5% to the maximum temperature, respectively. A method for generating high-power, millijoule level single pulse energy optical vortex laser using a mode-selection slab resonator is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The optical resonator forms a stable cavity with just two mirrors and a Nd: YAG laser slab, which is both streamlined and reliable. The mode-selection involves the tilt control of cavity mirrors and the radius control of the circular aperture in favor of the donut-shaped LG01 mode over others due to their different sensitivity to the resonator misalignment. By tuning the angle of the insert fused silica plate, nanosecond lasers in LG0,+1, and LG0,−1 modes are directly obtained with average power of 22.77 W and 21.85 W, and their pulse energies are 4.55 mJ and 4.37 mJ, respectively. The approach in this paper provides a concise solution for creating high-power vortex laser with slab resonator. The orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light, which is associated with the rotation of the phase structure, gives rise to numerous novel physical phenomena inlight–matter interactions. However, the direct generation of scalar OAM lasers with power‐handling capability and controllable states at the source remains challenging owing to mode degeneracy, handedness selection, and nonlinear thermal effects, which can even lead to topological charge splitting. This paper proposes a novel approach that allows spatial mode‐conversion‐controlled laser oscillation in a high‐gain OAM laser cavity with an integrated spiral‐face output coupler (SFOC). By adapting position‐dependent resonant modes, scalar optical vortices with a record power level (>60 W), high purity (>90%), and controllable OAM states (ħ or −8ħ) are demonstrated. Further, the dynamic process of OAM generation and evolution in the cavity is revealed. The concept presented herein opens a new route for the generation of OAM laser sources toward high power levels and holds promise for advancing classical and quantum optics, particularly in the area of light–matter interactions. In this paper, we employ the quantum trajectory Monte Carlo model to simulate the momentum distribution of Argon atoms during tunneling ionization. Our analysis illustrates the use of semi-classical models to study the changes in electron trajectories under different laser field intensities. And by studying the different subcycles, the changes of the interference pattern are observed. Our approach successfully observes the interference patterns resembling fishbone and spider stripes. We delve into the subperiodic interference structures present in the photoelectron momentum distributions. Specifically, we investigate the correlation effects of ionization trajectories on the interference fringes within the same period and in adjacent periods. Our analysis demonstrates that the holographic interference fringe results from the superposition of direct ionization trajectories and scattering trajectories. We elucidate the mechanisms underlying the formation of above-threshold ionization (ATI) ring structures and temporal double-slit interference patterns. Additionally, we investigate how wave packets perceive the Coulomb potential and its impact on interference phenomena under varying field intensities. Notably, without the Coulomb potential, the original spider-like holographic interference pattern disappears, replaced by temporal double-slit interference fringes similar to those observed within a comparable time frame. In this paper, an analysis of performance acceleration of an external laser source (ELS) model based polymer fiber gratings (PFGs) by reducing the turn-on delay time (TDelay) is successfully investigated numerically by optimizing model parameters. In contrast to all previous studies that relied either on approximate or experimental equations, the analysis was based on an exact numerical formula. The analysis is based on the investigation of the effect of diode injected current (Iin j), temperature (T), recombination rate coefficients (i.e. Anr, B, and C), and optical feedback (OFB) level.
