Collecting and analyzing data from all devices to improve the efficiency of business processes is an important task of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). In the age of data explosion, extensive text data generated by the IIoT have given birth to a variety of text representation methods. The task of text representation is to convert the natural language to a form that computer can understand with retaining the original semantics. However, these methods are difficult to effectively extract the semantic features among words and distinguish polysemy in natural language. Combining the advantages of convolutional neural network (CNN) and variational autoencoder (VAE), this paper proposes an intelligent CNN-VAE text representation algorithm as an advanced learning method for social big data within next-generation IIoT, which help users identify the information collected by sensors and perform further processing. This method employs the convolution layer to capture the local features of the context and uses the variational technique to reconstruct feature space to make it conform to the normal distribution. In addition, the improved word2vec model based on topical word embedding (TWE) is utilized to add topical information to word vectors to distinguish polysemy. This paper takes the social big data as an example to illustrate the way of the proposed algorithm applied in the next-generation IIoT and utilizes Cnews dataset to verify the performance of proposed method with four evaluating metrics (i.e., recall, accuracy, precision, and F1-score). Experimental results indicate that the proposed method outperforms word2vec-avg and CNN-AE in K-nearest neighbor (KNN), random forest (RF), and support vector machine (SVM) classifiers and distinguishes polysemy effectively. This paper presents the performance analysis of object detection algorithms using phase and statistical texture features. Robust metrics like accuracy and precision are used to perform the evaluation. Feature extraction is one of the prime requirements to represent an object. This paper provides a comprehensive and broad framework to phase feature and statistical feature extraction techniques and compares their performance in terms of accuracy and precision. In phase-based approach of object detection group of phase features are used to model the background. Whereas we represented the statistics of object by calculating GLCM features of the block images in statistical feature extraction methods. Support Vector machine algorithm is used to classify object. This method is developed to achieve higher accuracy and speed. Performance analysis of these two methods shows that phase feature is robust to illumination variations. Also, the obtained accuracy is good, but the computational complexity is high. Identifying and assessing Parkinson's disease in its early stages is critical to effectively monitoring the disease's progression. Methodologies based on machine learning enhanced speech analysis are gaining popularity as the potential of this field is revealed. Acoustic features, in particular, are used in a variety of algorithms for machine learning and could serve as indicators of the general health of subjects' voices. In this research paper, a novel method is introduced for the automated detection of Parkinson's disease through speech signal analysis, a support vector machines classifier (SVM) and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) are used to evaluate and classify the data based on two acoustic features: Bark Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (BFCC) and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC). These features are extracted from the denoised signals using Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD). The most relevant results obtained for a dataset of 38 participants are by the BFCC coefficients with an accuracy up to 92.10%. This paper designs a maritime anomaly detection algorithm based on a support vector machine (SVM) that considers the spatiotemporal and motion features of trajectories. Since trajectories are two-dimensional, it is difficult to present their motion features. To accurately describe trajectory features, a novel trajectory feature extraction method based on statistical theory is proposed in this paper. This method maps trajectories onto a high-dimensional space, which can account for both the spatiotemporal features and motion features of the trajectories. With the proposed feature extraction method, the density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise algorithm is employed to recognize vessel traffic patterns by simultaneously considering the spatiotemporal and motion features. Then, an improved SVM is designed by employing a weighted hybrid kernel function and differential operator to detect anomalous behaviours from recognized vessel traffic patterns that include the spatiotemporal and motion characteristics. Compared with standard SVM, it can adaptively determine the optimal kernel function according to sample set. Finally, a numerical example based on automatic identification system data from the waters off Chengshan Jiao is fulfilled to verify the proposed algorithm effectiveness and accuracy. The failure of insulators may seriously threaten the safe operation of the power system, where the state detection of high-voltage insulators is a must for the normal and safe operation of the power system. Based on the data of insulators in aerial images, this work explored an enhanced particle swarm algorithm to optimize the parameters of the support vector machine. A support vector machine model was therefore established for the identification of the normal and defective states of the insulators. This methodology works with the structure minimization principle of SVM and the characteristics of particle swarm fast optimization. First, the aerial insulator image was segmented as a target by way of the seed region growth based on double-layer cascade morphological improvements, and then, HOG features plus GLCM features were extracted as sample data. Finally, an ameliorated PSO-SVM classifier was designed to realize insulator state identification. Comparisons were made between PSO-SVM and conventional machine learning algorithms, SVM and Random Forest, and an optimization algorithm, Gray Wolf Optimization Support Vector Machine (GWO-SVM), and advanced neural network CNN. The experimental results showed that the performance of the algorithm proposed in this paper touched the top level, where the recognition accuracy rate was 92.11%, the precision rate 90%, the recall rate 94.74%, and the F1-score 92.31%. Degradation state identification for hydraulic pumps is crucial to ensure system performance. As an important step, feature extraction has always been challenging. The non-stationary and non-Gaussian characteristics of the vibration signal are likely to weaken the performance of traditional features. In this paper, an efficient feature extraction algorithm named multi-scale ternary dynamic analysis (MTDA) is proposed. MTDA reconstructs the phase space based on the given signal and converts each embedding vector into a ternary pattern independently, which enhances its capacity of describing the details of non-stationary signals. State entropy (SE) and state transition entropy (STE) are calculated to estimate the dynamical changes and complexity of each signal sample. The excellent performance of SE and STE in detecting frequency changes, amplitude changes, and the development process of fault is verified with the use of four simulated signals. The proposed multi-scale analysis enables them to provide a more precise estimation of entropy. Furthermore, support vector machine (SVM) and nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) are introduced to conduct feature selection and state identification. NSGA-II and SVM can conduct the joint optimization of these two goals. The details of the method proposed in this paper are tested using simulated signals and experimental data, and some studies related to the fault diagnosis of rotating machinery are compared with our method. The psychological health of a person plays an important role in their daily life activities. The paper addresses depression issues with the machine learning model using facial expressions of the patient. Some research has already been done on visual based on depression detection methods, but those are illumination variant. The paper uses feature extraction using LBP (Local Binary Pattern) descriptor, which is illumination invariant. The Viola-Jones algorithm is used for face detection and SVM (support vector machine) is considered for classification along with the LBP descriptor to make a complete model for depression level detection. The proposed method captures frontal face from the videos of subjects and their facial features are extracted from each frame. Subsequently, the facial features are analyzed to detect depression levels with the post-processing model. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated using machine learning algorithms in MATLAB. For the real-time system design, it is necessary to test it on the hardware platform. The LBP descriptor has been implemented on FPGA using Xilinx VIVADO 16.4. In the process of wireless communication, the transmission of signals will be subject to various kinds of interference, which will affect the quality of communication. Interference detection is an important part of improving the reliability of communication. When the interfering signal has the same frequency as the original communication signal, with traditional methods, it is difficult to extract feature parameters. Aiming at this special cofrequency interference signal, this paper proposes a time series signal prediction model based on deep learning and uses the difference between the predicted signal and the received signal as the eigenvalue to detect interference. In order to improve the detection rate, the eigenvalues predicted by LSTM and Bi-LSTM networks are subjected to windowing experiments. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used to detect the interference of eigenvalues, and the comparison results are visualized by the confusion matrix. The experimental simulation results show that the Bi-LSTM model has better feature extraction ability for time series signals, and the prediction ability of the signal and the accuracy of interference detection are higher than those of the LSTM model. Aiming at the feature extraction of left- and right-hand movement imagination EEG signals, this paper proposes a multichannel correlation analysis method and employs the Directed Transfer Function (DTF) to identify the connectivity between different channels of EEG signals, construct a brain network, and extract the characteristics of the network information flow. Since the network information flow identified by DTF can also reflect indirect connectivity of the EEG signal networks, the newly extracted DTF features are incorporated into the traditional AR model parameter features and extend the scope of feature sets. Classifications are carried out through the Support Vector Machine (SVM). The classification results show the enlarged feature set can significantly improve the classification accuracy of the left- and right-hand motor imagery EEG signals compared to the traditional AR feature set. Finally, the EEG signals of 2 channels, 10 channels, and 32 channels were selected for comparing their different effects of classifications. The classification results showed that the multichannel analysis method was more effective. Compared with the parameter features of the traditional AR model, the network information flow features extracted by the DTF method also achieve a higher classification effect, which verifies the effectiveness of the multichannel correlation analysis method. An intrusion detection system is a security system that aims to detect sabotage and intrusions on networks to inform experts of the attack and abuse of the network. Different classification methods have been used in the intrusion detection systems such as fuzzy, genetic algorithms, decision trees, artificial neural networks, and support vector machines. Moreover, ensemble classifiers have shown more robust and effective performance for various tasks in the field. In this paper, we adopt ensemble models in order to improve the performance of intrusion detection and, at the same time, decrease the false alarm rate. We use kNN for multi-class classification, as well as SVM to approach the classification problem in normal-based detection. In order to combine multiple outputs, we use the Dempster–Shafer method in which there is the possibility of explicit retrieval of uncertainty. Moreover, we utilize deep learning for extracting features to train the samples, selected by the sample selection algorithm based on ensemble margin. We compare our results with state-of-the-art methods on benchmarking datasets such as UNSW-NB15, CICIDS2017, and NSL-KDD. In this paper, we present a framework for performing automatic analysis of Land Use Zones based on Location-Based Social Networks (LBSNs). We model city areas using a hierarchical structure of POIs extracted from foursquare. We encode such structures in kernel machines, e.g., Support Vector Machines, using a new Tree Kernel, i.e., the Hierarchical POI Kernel (HPK), which can take the importance of the individual POIs into account during the substructure matching. This way, HPK projects structures in the space of all their possible substructures such that each dimension corresponds to a semantic structural feature, weighted according to the discriminative power of POIs. We generated four different datasets for the following cities: Barcelona, Lisbon, Amsterdam and Milan, where we trained and tested our models. The results show that our approach largely outperforms previous work and standard baseline built on simple features, such as counts of different POIs. Finally, we apply a mining algorithm to extract the most relevant features (tree fragments) from the implicit TK space according to the weights the kernel machine assigned to them. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a very common sleep disorder remains as an underdiagnosed root cause for several cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. In this paper, we propose an efficient and accurate system that utilizes a single sensor for effective screening of OSA using machine learning algorithms. The automatic screening system involves a photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal, a novel algorithm to detect and remove the corrupted part of the signal, a feature extraction module to extract several features from the PPG waveform and a classifier module which helps in screening for OSA. The elemental idea behind this work is that there is a characteristic relationship between the shape of the PPG waveform and the oxygen desaturation in the apnea patients. The method as described was tested on 285 subjects, inclusive of both normal and apnea patients, and the results were obtained after 10-fold-cross validation of the different machine learning techniques viz., univariate regression, multivariate regression, support vector machine and random forest. The best results in screening OSA were obtained from random forest algorithm with the highest performance (Acc: 98.0%, Sen: 98.6%, Spec: 99.3%) for all the combined features. The proposed work is an effective system for automatic screening of OSA from a single PPG sensor, thereby reducing the need for a very expensive and overnight polysomnography sleep study. During the running of electric locomotives, a large amount of operating data will be stored through the Analog-Digital Converter (ADC) and the recording oscillograph of the on-board Traction Control Unit (TCU). Analysis based on mass data to detect slipping is of great significance for saving energy, improving the performance and safety of the traction control system of electric locomotives. Therefore, after analyzing and summarizing the advantages of Empirical Wavelet Transform (EWT) and Fuzzy Entropy (FE) algorithm in data processing and the classification theory of Support Vector Machine (SVM), this paper proposed a SVM slipping detection method based on EWT and FE algorithm. Firstly, feature extraction is carried out on the locomotive wheelset velocity data collected by the on-board velocity sensor, that is, the feature vector of data is extracted by calculating fuzzy entropy value after EWT, and the velocity data is converted into feature matrix for slipping-detection of SVM. Then considering the defects of traditional optimization algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) in the parameter optimization of SVM, Genetic Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm (GAPSO) is proposed to optimize the parameters of SVM classification model, and the slipping detection model of SVM is established through training samples, which realizes high-precision slipping detection. Finally, combined with a large number of locomotive data, the comparative analysis test is carried out, the results show that the feature extraction method based on EWT and FE algorithm has excellent ability of mode decomposition and feature extraction, GAPSO has efficient optimization ability, and the proposed slipping detection method can accurately detect slipping. Medical image detection and classification play an important role in medical research. Tumour detection is a process of crucial importance in oncology. The aim of this paper is to devise an approach for efficient image enhancement, tumour detection, and classification on computed tomographic lung images. Three different application-related methods on computed tomography (CT) images have been designed and implemented in this work. The first method, which was based on image quality, enhances the performance of the medical images. Generally, the CT images are very sensitive to noise and are difficult to handle. Proper care may be taken by introducing some preprocessing algorithms like enhancement algorithms and filters. According to this, an image enhancement algorithm, Wavelet Shrinkage adaptive histogram Equalization (WSAHE), with anisotropic diffusion filter (ADF) was introduced to improve the contrast of the CT images and denoising. In the second method Seed Region growing with Random walk segmentation algorithm (SRGWRWS) is proposed for lung tumour segmentation. In the third method GLCM features, FOS features, structural features, and combinational features are calculated from the segmented lung images. After segmentation, the tumour classification is done by Multi-class support vector machine (MCSVM) and Descend RUSBOOST classifiers. Here, MCSVM classifier was used to find whether the input CT tumour image is suspicious, benign or malignant. Overall accuracy of 92% is obtained using Descend RUSBOOST classifier with GLCM features, FOS features, structural features, combinational features and overall accuracy of 97% is obtained using MCSVM classifier with GLCM feature in MATLAB 2017a software. The Open Circuit (OC) faults occurring in switches of Multilevel Converters (MLC) may lead to undesirable operation of the converter. Therefore, fault detection and its localization in minimum time are necessary. This paper focuses on the fast fault detection algorithm based on the two samples technique and the fault localization algorithm using the Entropy of Wavelet Packets (EWP) as a feature. The EWP feature is used to classify and localize the OC faults in Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) of three-phase, three-level inverter using Support Vector Machine (SVM) based fault classification algorithm. The proposed technique can detect the fault in single IGBT and multiple IGBTs in a lesser time range of microseconds to 0.33 ms. It gives better performance and accuracy (99.70%) than previously proposed SVM algorithms, as the EWP-based feature extraction process used in this paper is simple and accurate with a less computational burden. Machine Learning (ML) methodologies have become a worthy choice for X-ray screening. X-ray imaging is a method used for the identification of bone fractures. But every so often, the dimensions and locations of a fracture are detected incorrectly. Therefore, this paper aims to design a system that would accurately detect and classify fractured and non-fractured bone images. This proposed system comprises four principal phases. The first is the image acquisition phase, in which few input images are acquired from the X-ray machine, and few input images are collected from the imaging centre. The second is a pre-processing phase to see their informative areas like location, edges and shape. So, the wavelet transform method helps to compress the images to store and remove noises. The third is the feature extracting phase; the Harris corner detection technique is used to locate the broken points as corner features and intensifies the quality of the X-ray images. Before applying the Harris corner algorithm, the image sharpening method was used. Then images are equipped to be fed into a fourth phase, i.e. classification phase; two techniques are used in this phase: Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Error Backpropagation Neural Network (EBP-NN). Classification by SVM and EBP-NN both methods are tested on various fractured and non-fractured bone images. Finally, found that classification done by the SVM technique is more accurate than EBP-NN. Existing research works in scene image classification have focused on different aspects such as content features (e.g., visual information), context features (e.g., annotations, semantic information, etc.) and both. However, such works suffer from various issues such as higher feature size and lower classification performance. In this paper, we propose a new feature extraction approach for scene image representation using two kinds of rich information: content features and context features. Specifically, the new content features are generated by multi-scale foreground and background information. Similarly, the new context features are generated by the novel compact supervised codebook. Our compact supervised codebook minimizes irrelevant and redundant information, which, in result, achieves the lower-sized contextual feature vector. Finally, we combine both content and context features to represent the scene image. Our experiments on three widely used benchmark scene datasets using Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier reveal that our proposed context and content features produce better results than existing context and content features, respectively. For permanent magnet DC motors (PMDCMs), the amplitude of the current signals gradually decreases after the motor starts. Only using the signal features of current in a single segment is not conducive to fault diagnosis for PMDCMs. In this work, multi-segment feature extraction is presented for improving the effect of fault diagnosis of PMDCMs. Additionally, a support vector machine (SVM), a classification and regression tree (CART), and the k-nearest neighbor algorithm (k-NN) are utilized for the construction of fault diagnosis models. The time domain features extracted from several successive segments of current signals make up a feature vector, which is adopted for fault diagnosis of PMDCMs. Experimental results show that multi-segment features have a better diagnostic effect than single-segment features; the average accuracy of fault diagnosis improves by 19.88%. Feature point extraction and matching work together and play a crucial role in many machine vision tasks, such as visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) which is the basis of robotics. However, feature matching has not been fully studied as much as feature extraction. The most widely used feature matching method is still the classical brute-force matching. In this paper, by fusing the data of inertial measurement unit (IMU), a novel feature points matching algorithm with online learning fault detection, where the global matcher and local matcher operate alternately and switch automatically, is proposed to improve matching accuracy. Taking the uncertainties of the initial states of camera and IMU into account in the initialization phase, the system starts with the global mode to accomplish the matching task and initialize the state variables which are used to align the data of two sensors. Then, once completing the initialization, the algorithm will automatically switch to our new-designed local matcher with feature compensation, which bounds the search space and improves the matching accuracy via performing on the support region according to the results of IMU pre-integration rather than the whole image. In addition, for the purpose of effectively dealing with the misestimation of support region induced by IMU failures, an online learning fault detector based on support vector machines is newly developed, which can trigger the action of mode switcher and runs simultaneously in another thread. Furthermore, a timer is attached to the fault detector in order to activate the detection periodically, which can further reduces the cost of computing resources. Iris biometric detection provides contactless authentication, preventing the spread of COVID-19-like contagious diseases. However, these systems are prone to spoofing attacks attempted with the help of contact lenses, replayed video, and print attacks, making them vulnerable and unsafe. This paper proposes the iris liveness detection (ILD) method to mitigate spoofing attacks, taking global-level features of Thepade's sorted block truncation coding (TSBTC) and local-level features of the gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) of the iris image. Thepade's SBTC extracts global color texture content as features, and GLCM extracts local fine-texture details. The fusion of global and local content presentation may help distinguish between live and non-live iris samples. The fusion of Thepade's SBTC with GLCM features is considered in experimental validations of the proposed method. The features are used to train nine assorted machine learning classifiers, including naïve Bayes (NB), decision tree (J48), support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), multilayer perceptron (MLP), and ensembles (SVM + RF + NB, SVM + RF + RT, RF + SVM + MLP, J48 + RF + MLP) for ILD. Accuracy, precision, recall, and F-measure are used to evaluate the performance of the projected ILD variants. The experimentation was carried out on four standard benchmark datasets, and our proposed model showed improved results with the feature fusion approach. The proposed fusion approach gave 99.68% accuracy using the RF + J48 + MLP ensemble of classifiers, immediately followed by the RF algorithm, which gave 95.57%. This research proposes a new feature extraction algorithm using aggregated user engagements on social media in order to achieve demographics and personality discovery tasks. Our proposed framework can discover seven essential attributes, including gender identity, age group, residential area, education level, political affiliation, religious belief, and personality type. Multiple feature sets are developed, including comment text, community activity, and hybrid features. Various machine learning algorithms are explored, such as support vector machines, random forest, multi-layer perceptron, and naïve Bayes. An empirical analysis is performed on various aspects, including correctness, robustness, training time, and the class imbalance problem. We obtained the highest prediction performance by using our proposed feature extraction algorithm. The result on personality type prediction was 87.18%. For the demographic attribute prediction task, our feature sets also outperformed the baseline at 98.1% for residential area, 94.7% for education level, 92.1% for gender identity, 91.5% for political affiliation, 60.6% for religious belief, and 52.0% for the age group.
