The purpose of the paper was to design geometric models of the movable connection made of brass for three different attachment options and three different loads. The numerical analysis of the mechanical properties, stresses, strains and displacements using the finite element method was carried out in SolidWorks 2020 and their comparative analysis was performed. The introduction of hierarchical structures into conventional honeycomb structure materials can increase the mechanical properties of honeycomb materials. This paper studies the in-plane collapse response of a new second-order diamond-shaped hierarchical honeycomb (DHH) (the cell walls are composed of equilateral triangles) and systematically studies the quasi-static collapse response and dynamic collapse response of the DHH in two directions through the finite element method. The quasi-static collapse response of the DHH is analyzed by a two-scale research method, and combined with momentum conservation law, the study is extended to dynamic collapse response. This paper also studies the collapse response of the DHH with different number of substructures, different relative densities, and different impact speeds, and the results are verified by theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. The results show that adding hierarchical structure can greatly increase the collapse stress of the diamond honeycomb structure and make the structure have better energy absorption effect. Accurate prediction of displacements associated with deep excavations is essential to ensure safety and stability of the excavation and to prevent any damage and distress to the adjoining infrastructures. This paper presents a numerical approach for prediction of ground displacements related to a zone-divided deep excavation construction executed in Shanghai soft clays based on a new elasto--plastic constitutive model (small-strain Shanghai model) that incorporates small strain stiffness. This model can describe the mechanical properties and structural and over-consolidated characteristics of natural clays. The model is implemented into a finite element analysis software. Numerical analysis on the deep excavation in Shanghai using zone-divided method is conducted. A comparison between monitored and simulated results of horizontal displacements along the diaphragm wall, the settlements in the surroundings, and the effects on the adjoining metro tunnel due to excavation construction is carried out. Special attention is paid to the stiffness degradation of representative elements in the ground. The simulated displacements show a good agreement with the monitored data. Viscoelastic (VE) dampers can effectively mitigate the vibration of structures under dynamic loading depending on better energy dissipating capability and are widely applied in practical engineering. On the basis of the studies on the mechanical properties of the VE material, the nonlinear behaviors of the VE damper are frequency dependent which can be elucidated by the changes in storage modulus and loss factor parameters. In this paper, experimental results of the VE damper reveal that the mechanical performance of the VE damper is correlative with the displacement amplitude. Therefore, a modified fractional derivative model is proposed to reflect the softening behavior of displacement amplitude on the VE damper. This result demonstrates that the modified model is reasonably practicable and can accurately evaluate the characteristic parameters of the VE damper. In order to apply the proposed constitutive model to finite element software, an equivalent method is presented to transform this model into the generalized Maxwell model. A three-dimensional finite element model of the VE damper is established with ABAQUS for numerical analysis. And compared with the experimental results, it is indicated that the equivalent generalized Maxwell model is available. Fire is one of the main objects of study at the cutting edge of the research on disaster prevention and mitigation in structures. In the event of a fire, the mechanical properties of the structural material will be significantly reduced, resulting in serious consequences. This paper simulates the tensile properties of sleeve grouting members at five different temperatures, to contribute to the research here. The simulated member stress-strain curves fit well with the corresponding experimental results. The paper introduces constitutive models of concrete, steel, and sleeve. Beyond that, a feasible finite element model of the grouted sleeve is proposed. Two special points' (yield point, ultimate point) coordinate formulas which are related to different temperatures (25–1000 °C) are presented. It indicates the regularity of fully-grouted sleeve tensile force-displacement curves in various temperatures.
