The resources in the edge cloud are numerous and complex, and elastic scaling services can make efficient use of these resources. However, the elastic scaling services need to suspend the user's application tasks forcibly when carrying out resource redistribution, which brings a poor sense of experience to the user. In view of the above problems, a dynamic elastic scaling model based on load prediction is proposed, which improves resource utilization and reduces scaling costs without affecting user experience. The model is divided into two parts. In terms of load prediction, on the one hand, according to the historical features and current trends of the load, the load prediction model based on the improved cloud model is used to predict the load demand at the next moment. On the other hand, the correlation between CPU and memory is considered. In terms of elastic scaling, integer programming algorithm is proposed to expand and release the corresponding resources with the minimum cost of horizontal scaling (HS) and vertical scaling (VS). In order to verify the superiority of elastic scaling model based on load prediction, corresponding comparative experiments are conducted, which show that the proposed model can improve the accuracy of load prediction and resource utilization with low scaling costs. Especially, the cost of elastic scaling proposed by this paper is lower than horizontal and vertical scaling. A complex and important task in the cloud resource management is the efficient allocation of virtual machines (VMs), or containers, in physical machines (PMs). The evaluation of VM placement techniques in real-world clouds can be tedious, complex and time-consuming. This situation has motivated an increasing use of cloud simulators that facilitate this type of evaluations. However, most of the reported VM placement techniques based on simulations have been evaluated taking into account one specific cloud resource (e.g., CPU), whereas values often unrealistic are assumed for other resources (e.g., RAM, awaiting times, application workloads, etc.). This situation generates uncertainty, discouraging their implementations in real-world clouds. This paper introduces CloudBench, a methodology to facilitate the evaluation and deployment of VM placement strategies in private clouds. CloudBench considers the integration of a cloud simulator with a real-world private cloud. Two main tools were developed to support this methodology, a specialized multi-resource cloud simulator (CloudBalanSim), which is in charge of evaluating VM placement techniques, and a distributed resource manager (Balancer), which deploys and tests in a real-world private cloud the best VM placement configurations that satisfied user requirements defined in the simulator. Both tools generate feedback information, from the evaluation scenarios and their obtained results, which is used as a learning asset to carry out intelligent and faster evaluations. In this work, we introduce slot selection and co-allocation algorithms for parallel jobs in distributed computing with non-dedicated and heterogeneous resources. A single slot is a time span that can be assigned to a task, which is a part of a job. The job launch requires a co-allocation of a specified number of slots starting synchronously. The challenge is that slots associated with different resources of distributed computational environments may have arbitrary start and finish points that do not match. Some existing algorithms assign a job to the first set of slots matching the resource request without any optimization (the first fit type), while other algorithms are based on an exhaustive search. In this paper, algorithms for effective slot selection of linear complexity on an available slots number are studied and compared with known approaches. Document analysis systems often begin with binarization as a first processing stage. Although numerous techniques for binarization have been proposed, the results produced can vary in quality and often prove sensitive to the settings of one or more control parameters. This paper examines a promising approach to binarization based upon simple principles, and shows that its success depends most significantly upon the values of two key parameters. It further describes an automatic technique for setting these parameters in a manner that tunes them to the individual image, yielding a final binarization algorithm that can cut total error by one-third with respect to the baseline version. Recent technological advances in commodity server architectures, with multiple multi-core CPUs, integrated memory controllers, high-speed interconnects, and enhanced network interface cards, provide substantial computational capacity, and thus an attractive platform for packet forwarding. However, to exploit this available capacity, we need a suitable software platform that allows effective parallel packet processing and resource management. In this paper, we at first introduce an improved forwarding architecture for software routers that enhances parallelism by exploiting hardware classification and multi-queue support, already available in recent commodity network interface cards. After evaluating the original scheduling algorithm of the widely-used Click modular router, we propose solutions for extending this scheduler for improved fairness, throughput, and more precise resource management. To illustrate the potential benefits of our proposal, we implement and evaluate a few key elements of our overall design. In this paper, we have proposed two backfill scheduling optimizations, i.e., Shortest Width First Backfill (SWFBF) and Shortest Area First Backfill (SAFBF). A near optimal simple, but effective job packing algorithm called the Select-Replace algorithm has also been presented to minimize external fragmentation. Proof of the concept has been given with the help of a simulation study. Five workloads which were derived from a clean version of the parallel workload archive (CTC, LANL, and SDSC. NASA) have been used to evaluate and compare proposed heuristics with previous techniques. In this paper, we developed a framework for efficient resource management within the grid service environment. For considering the grid service architecture and functions, the resource management is the most important to grid service; therefore, GridRMF (Grid Resource Management Framework) is modeled and developed in order to respond to such variable characteristics of resources as accordingly as possible. GridRMF uses the participation level of grid resource as a basis of its hierarchical management. This hierarchical management divides managing domains into two parts: VMS (Virtual Organization Management System) for virtual organization management and RMS (Resource Management System) for metadata management. VMS mediates resources according to optimal virtual organization selection mechanism, and responds to malfunctions of the virtual organization by LRM (Local Resource Manager) automatic recovery mechanism.
