Over the 15 years, the Bio-Ontologies SIG at ISMB has provided a forum for discussion of the latest and most innovative research in the bio-ontologies development, its applications to biomedicine and more generally the organisation, presentation and dissemination of knowledge in biomedicine and the life sciences. The seven papers and the commentary selected for this supplement span a wide range of topics including: web-based querying over multiple ontologies, integration of data, annotating patent records, NCBO Web services, ontology developments for probabilistic reasoning and for physiological processes, and analysis of the progress of annotation and structural GO changes. Background: Studies measuring contact networks have helped to improve our understanding of infectious disease transmission. However, several methodological issues are still unresolved, such as which method of contact measurement is the most valid. Further, complete network analysis requires data from most, ideally all, members of a network and, to achieve this, acceptance of the measurement method. We aimed at investigating measurement error by comparing two methods of contact measurement - paper diaries vs. wearable proximity sensors - that were applied concurrently to the same population, and we measured acceptability.Methods: We investigated the contact network of one day of an epidemiology conference in September 2014. Seventy-six participants wore proximity sensors throughout the day while concurrently recording their contacts with other study participants in a paper-diary; they also reported on method acceptability.Results: There were 329 contact reports in the paper diaries, corresponding to 199 contacts, of which 130 were noted by both parties. The sensors recorded 316 contacts, which would have resulted in 632 contact reports if there had been perfect concordance in recording. We estimated the probabilities that a contact was reported in a diary as: P = 72 % for <5 min contact duration (significantly lower than the following, p < 0.05), P = 86 % for 5-15 min, P = 89 % for 15-60 min, and P = 94 % for >60 min. The sets of sensor-measured and self-reported contacts had a large intersection, but neither was a subset of the other. Participants' aggregated contact duration was mostly substantially longer in the diary data than in the sensor data. Twenty percent of respondents (>1 reported contact) stated that filling in the diary was too much work, 25 % of respondents reported difficulties in remembering contacts, and 93 % were comfortable having their conference contacts measured by sensors.Conclusion: Reporting and recording were not complete; reporting was particularly incomplete for contacts <5 min. The types of contact that both methods are capable of detecting are partly different. Participants appear to have overestimated the duration of their contacts. Conducting a study with diaries or wearable sensors was acceptable to and mostly easily done by participants. Background: Medical record keeping is a systematic method of documentation of a single patient's medical history and treatment record over time). It is crucial from multiple perspectives: patients, health care providers, medical research, etc. Conventinally, these records have been made with pen and paper. However, recent advances have led to the development of e-health record systems (EHRS). Objective: The primary objective is to describe our experiences at NeuroGen, where we have used all methods of patient documentation including traditional paper-pen method, video documentation, and EHRS. The secondary objective is to present the advantages and limitations of the different record keeping methods. Study Design: This is an interview-based descriptive study. Methods: We designed and conducted a questionnaire to compare traditional methods versus EHRS that was administered to 40 of our health care providers to obtain their feedback. We hereby present the advantages and disadvantages of traditional and EHRS based on the questionnaire. Results: The poster highlights that the EHRS when combined with video recording, whcich we are currently using at NeuroGen, vary in benefits and limitations, benefits outweighing the limitations. Conclusion: We conclude that despite the limitations of EHRS, traditional methods will soon have to be replaced and therefore recommend adaptation to the electronic health record system. The objective of this paper is to consider the recommendations and expectations of the IMIA WG10 working conferences at Nijmegen (1988) and Go¨ttingen (1991) from the present perspective. The methods: the original task description of WG10 is considered and the main items during the Nijmegen and Gottingen working conferences are addressed. The design and use of a HIS are compared by those for a ship. The results: the tasks of WG10 have only partially been completed. However, for several items significant progress has been made. The conclusions: the recommendations of the earlier conferences are to a large extent still valid. A scientific foundation for HIS development has not yet been created, in this respect HIS design and development compares unfavourably with shipbuilding. The choice has to be made: either we consider HIS development as an art or we give priority to the development of a Science of Health Information Processing (SHIP) to found the HIS development. Introduction: Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) improves outcomes for frail patients; at FVRH this is delivered by the Frailty Intervention Team (FIT) comprising of senior nurses, allied health professionals (AHPs) and doctors. Faced with COVID-19, we took the opportunity to digitalise CGA documentation to preserve these benefits for patients whilst facing greater acuity, staffing and time pressures. An electronic solution was adopted to reduce paper-usage in COVID-receiving areas. Prior to COVID-19, CGA was recorded within case-notes, presenting challenges when patients were readmitted out-ofhours as these were stored off-site and not accessible out-of-hours. Method: Trakcare is the patient-management system in many Scottish hospitals. The Electronic Patient Record (EPR) was used to record pro-forma against admissions which were accessible and updatable for any patient 24–7-365. Patients meeting the Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) Frailty criteria were considered “frailty-positive”, with an e-alert added- reappearing on any re-admission. Providing no HIS-exclusion criteria, an electronic-CGA (e-CGA) was recorded or updated. The pro-forma designed contained information not immediately available to clerking practitioners. This evolved following discussion amongst the FIT to include information such as escalation-status, medicationarrangements and baseline cognition. Results: Over 13 weeks, 116 EPRs were reviewed. During weeks 1–3 (n=8, 12, 7 respectively), e-CGA completion averaged 31%. Following FIT collaboration, this rose to 82% (n=9) by week 12. Qualitative feedback from the MDT indicated that FIT, downstream wards and night-staff felt that having access to previous escalation-plans made immediate-management easier to determine, and discussions with familiesmore productive for patients. Conclusions: Development of the FVRH e-CGA is ongoing, with an electronic frailtyscreening tool being implemented to improve frailty-identification on admission to ensure correct streaming of patients to the FIT. We have demonstrated a cost-neutral method for improving access to CGA for patients using existing IT systems whilst protecting staff time, preserving patient care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
