The accurate detection of traffic signs is a critical component of self-driving systems, enabling safe and efficient navigation. In the literature, various methods have been investigated for traffic sign detection, among which deep learning-based approaches have demonstrated superior performance compared to other techniques. This paper justifies the widespread adoption of deep learning due to its ability to provide highly accurate results. However, the current research challenge lies in addressing the need for high accuracy rates and real-time processing requirements. In this study, we propose a convolutional neural network based on the YOLOv8 algorithm to overcome the aforementioned research challenge. Our approach involves generating a custom dataset with diverse traffic sign images, followed by conducting training, validation, and testing sets to ensure the robustness and generalization of the model. Experimental results and performance evaluation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. This comprehensive review focuses on the Autonomous Driving System (ADS), which aims to reduce human errors that are the reason for about 95% of car accidents. The ADS consists of six stages: sensors, perception, localization, assessment, path planning, and control. We explain the main state-of-the-art techniques used in each stage, analyzing 275 papers, with 162 specifically on path planning due to its complexity, NP-hard optimization nature, and pivotal role in ADS. This paper categorizes path planning techniques into three primary groups: traditional (graph-based, sampling-based, gradient-based, optimization-based, interpolation curve algorithms), machine and deep learning, and meta-heuristic optimization, detailing their advantages and drawbacks. Findings show that meta-heuristic optimization methods, representing 23% of our study, are preferred for being general problem solvers capable of handling complex problems. In addition, they have faster convergence and reduced risk of local minima. Machine and deep learning techniques, accounting for 25%, are favored for their learning capabilities and fast responses to known scenarios. The trend towards hybrid algorithms (27%) combines various methods, merging each algorithm's benefits and overcoming the other's drawbacks. Moreover, adaptive parameter tuning is crucial to enhance efficiency, applicability, and balancing the search capability. This review sheds light on the future of path planning in autonomous driving systems, helping to tackle current challenges and unlock the full capabilities of autonomous vehicles. Autonomous driving approaches today are mainly based on perception-planning-action modular pipelines and the End2End paradigm respectively. The End2End paradigm is a strategy that directly maps raw sensor data to vehicle control actions. This strategy is very promising and appealing because complex module design and cumbersome data labeling are avoided. Since this approach lacks a degree of interpretability, safety and practicability. we propose an autonomous driving approach based on trajectory learning using deep neural networks in this paper. In comparison to End2End algorithm, it is found that the trajectory learning algorithm performs better in autonomous driving. As for trajectory learning algorithm, the CNN_Raw-RNN network structure is established, which is verified to be more effective than the original CNN_LSTM network structure. Besides, we propose an autonomous driving architecture of a pilot and copilot combination. The pilot is responsible for trajectory prediction via imitation learning with labeled driving trajectories, while the copilot is a safety module that is employed to verify the effectiveness of the vehicle trajectory by the results of the semantic segmentation auxiliary task. 3D multiobject tracking (MOT) is an important part of road condition detection and hazard warning algorithm in roadside systems and autonomous driving systems. There is a tricky problem in 3D MOT that the identity of occluded object switches after it reappears. Given the good performance of the 2D MOT, this paper proposes a 3D MOT algorithm with deep learning based on the multiobject tracking algorithm. Firstly, a 3D object detector was used to obtain oriented 3D bounding boxes from point clouds. Secondly, a 3D Kalman filter was used for state estimation, and reidentification algorithm was used to match feature similarity. Finally, data association was conducted by combining Hungarian algorithm. Experiments show that the proposed method can still match the original trajectory after the occluded object reappears and run at a rate of 59 FPS, which has achieved advanced results in the existing 3D MOT system. Accurately detect vehicles or pedestrians from 3D point clouds (3D object detection) is a fast developing research topic in autonomous driving and other domains. The fundamental component for feature extraction in 3D object detection is Set Abstraction (SA), which can downsample points while aggregating points to extract features. However, the current SA ignores the geometric and semantic properties of point clouds and may miss to detect remote small objects. In this paper, FocusSA is proposed, which consists two modules for enhancing useful feature extraction in the SA layer to improve 3D object detection accuracy. At first, Focused FPS (FocFPS) is proposed to evaluate the foreground and boundary scores of the points and reweighs the Furthest Point Sampling (FPS) using the evaluated scores to retain more contextual points in downsampling. Then a Geometry-aware Feature Extraction (GeoFE) module is proposed to add geometric information to enrich the awareness of geometric structure in feature aggregation. To evaluate the performances of the proposed methods, we conduct extensive experiments on three difficulty levels of Car class in KITTI dataset. The experimental results show that on "moderate" instances, our results outperform the state-of-the-art method by 1.08%. Moreover, FocusSA is easy to be plugged in popular architectures. Due to deep learning's accurate cognition of the street environment, the convolutional neural network has achieved dramatic development in the application of street scenes. Considering the needs of autonomous driving and assisted driving, in a general way, computer vision technology is used to find obstacles to avoid collisions, which has made semantic segmentation a research priority in recent years. However, semantic segmentation has been constantly facing new challenges for quite a long time. Complex network depth information, large datasets, real-time requirements, etc., are typical problems that need to be solved urgently in the realization of autonomous driving technology. In order to address these problems, we propose an improved lightweight real-time semantic segmentation network, which is based on an efficient image cascading network (ICNet) architecture, using multi-scale branches and a cascaded feature fusion unit to extract rich multi-level features. In this paper, a spatial information network is designed to transmit more prior knowledge of spatial location and edge information. During the course of the training phase, we append an external loss function to enhance the learning process of the deep learning network system as well. This lightweight network can quickly perceive obstacles and detect roads in the drivable area from images to satisfy autonomous driving characteristics. The proposed model shows substantial performance on the Cityscapes dataset. With the premise of ensuring real-time performance, several sets of experimental comparisons illustrate that SP-ICNet enhances the accuracy of road obstacle detection and provides nearly ideal prediction outputs. Compared to the current popular semantic segmentation network, this study also demonstrates the effectiveness of our lightweight network for road obstacle detection in autonomous driving.
