Of concern in this paper is to propose an accurate description for the global bifurcation structure of the nonconstant steady states for a reaction–diffusion predator–prey model with prey-taxis and double Beddington–DeAngelis functional responses systematically. By treating the coefficient of nonlinear prey-taxis as a bifurcation parameter and utilizing the user-friendly version of Crandall–Rabinowitz bifurcation theory, we study the global bifurcation theory of the system. Meanwhile, the existence of nonconstant steady states will be offered by the exported global bifurcation theorem under a rather natural condition. In this paper, we propose and analyze a predator-prey model with a prey refuge and additional food for predators. We study the impact of a prey refuge on the stability dynamics, when a constant proportion or a constant number of prey moves to the refuge area. The system dynamics are studied using both analytical and numerical techniques. We observe that the prey refuge can replace the predator-prey oscillations by a stable equilibrium if the refuge size crosses a threshold value. It is also observed that, if the refuge size is very high, then the extinction of the predator population is certain. Further, we observe that enhancement of additional food for predators prevents the extinction of the predator and also replaces the stable limit cycle with a stable equilibrium. Our results suggest that additional food for the predators enhances the stability and persistence of the system. Extensive numerical experiments are performed to illustrate our analytical findings. This paper is concerned with a prey-predator system with disease in the prey and two delays. Local stability of the positive equilibrium of the system and existence of local Hopf bifurcation are investigated by choosing different combinations of the two delays as bifurcation parameters. For further investigation, the direction and the stability of the Hopf bifurcation are determined by using the normal form method and center manifold theorem. A kind of delayed predator-prey system with harvesting is considered in this paper. The influence of harvesting and delay is investigated. Our results show that Hopf bifurcations occur as the delay τ passes through critical values. By using of normal form theory and center manifold theorem, the direction of Hopf bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are obtained. In this paper, we investigate the complex dynamical behaviors of a biological network that is derived from innate immune responses and that couples positive and negative feedback loops. The stability conditions of the non-negative equilibrium points (EPs) of the system are obtained, using the theory of dynamical systems, and we deduce that no more than three stable EPs exist in this system. Through bifurcation analysis and numerical simulations, we find that the system presents rich dynamical behaviors, such as monostability, bistability and oscillations. In this paper, we consider a three-dimensional viral model with delay. We first investigate the linear stability and the existence of a Hopf bifurcation. It is shown that Hopf bifurcations occur as the delay τ passes through a sequence of critical values. Then, using the normal form theory and center manifold reduction, we derive the explicit formulaes that determine the stability, the direction, and the period of bifurcating periodic solutions. Abstract: This paper presents the derivation and partial analysis of a general producer–consumer model. The model is stoichiometric in that it includes the growth constraints imposed by species-specific biomass carbon to nutrient ratios. The model unifies the approaches of other studies in recent years, and is calibrated from an extensive review of the algae–Daphnia literature. Numerical simulations and bifurcation analysis are used to examine the impact of energy enrichment under nutrient and stoichiometric constraints. Our results suggest that the variety of system responses previously cited for related models can be attributed to the size of the total system nutrient pool, which is here assumed fixed. New, more complicated bifurcation sequences, such as multiple homoclinic bifurcations, are demonstrated as well. The mechanistic basis of the model permits us to show the robustness of the system’s dynamics subject to alternate approaches to modeling producer and consumer biomass production. In this paper, a novel four dimensional hyper-chaotic system is coined based on the Chen system, which contains two quadratic terms and five system parameters. The proposed system can generate a hyper-chaotic attractor in wide parameters regions. By using the center manifold theorem and the local bifurcation theory, a pitchfork bifurcation is demonstrated to arise at the zero equilibrium point. Numerical analysis demonstrates that the hyper-chaotic system can generate complex dynamical behaviors, e.g., a direct transition from quasi-periodic behavior to hyper-chaotic behavior. Finally, an electronic circuit is designed to implement the hyper-chaotic system, the experimental results are consist with the numerical simulations, which verifies the existence of the hyper-chaotic attractor. In this paper, we have proposed a novel three-dimensional Lorenz-like chaotic system. Some basic properties of the system, such as dynamical behaviors, bifurcation diagram. Lyapunov exponents and Poincare mapping are investigated either analytically or numerically. Furthermore, the control problem of the new chaotic system was studied via nonlinear backstepping method. The single backstepping control input was designed according to Lyapunov stability criterion. Alternating patterns of small and large amplitude oscillations occur in a wide variety of physical, chemical, biological, and engineering systems. These mixed-mode oscillations (MMOs) are often found in systems with multiple time scales. Previous differential equation modeling and analysis of MMOs have mainly focused on local mechanisms to explain the small oscillations. Numerical continuation studies reported different MMO patterns based on parameter variation. This paper aims at improving the link between local analysis and numerical simulation. Our starting point is a numerical study of a singular return map for the Koper model which is a prototypical example for MMOs, which also relates to local normal form theory. We demonstrate that many MMO patterns can be understood geometrically by approximating the singular maps with affine and quadratic maps. Motivated by our numerical analysis we use abstract affine and quadratic return map models in combination with two local normal forms that generate small oscillations. Using this decomposition approach we can reproduce many classical MMO patterns and effectively decouple bifurcation parameters for local and global parts of the flow. Abstract: In this paper, a competitive Lotka–Volterra system with three delays is investigated. By choosing the sum of three delays as a bifurcation parameter, we show that in the above system, Hopf bifurcation at the positive equilibrium can occur as crosses some critical values. And we obtain the formulae determining direction of Hopf bifurcation and stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions by using the normal form theory and center manifold theorem. This paper is concerned with a two-species predator-prey reaction-diffusion system with Beddington-DeAngelis functional response and subject to homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. By linearizing the system at the positive constant steady-state solution and analyzing the associated characteristic equation in detail, the asymptotic stability of the positive constant steady-state solution and the existence of local Hopf bifurcations are investigated. Also, it is shown that the appearance of the diffusion and homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions can lead to the appearance of codimension two Bagdanov-Takens bifurcation. Moreover, by applying the normal form theory and the center manifold reduction for partial differential equations (PDEs), the explicit algorithm determining the direction of Hopf bifurcations and the stability of bifurcating periodic solutions is given. This paper attempts to numerically validate the concept of diffuse failure using a discrete element method. First, the theoretical background is reviewed, and it is shown how the kinetic energy of a system, initially at rest after a loading history, is likely to abruptly increase under the effect of disturbances. The vanishing of the second-order work thus constitutes a basic ingredient, related to both the pioneering work of Hill (J Mech Phys Solids (6):236-249, ) and the notion of bifurcation applied to geomechanics (Vardoulakis and Sulem in Bifurcation analysis in geomechanics, Chapman & Hall Publisher, London, ). Discrete numerical simulations were performed on homogeneous three-dimensional specimens, and the three basic conditions that must be satisfied in order to observe a failure mechanism are numerically checked. Finally, this work illustrates the phenomena that are likely to affect in situ slopes, for instance, when the loading (due to weather conditions or human activities) meets the three basic conditions for a failure mechanism to develop. This paper provides further results on bifurcation analysis of indirect field oriented control of induction motors. Previous results presented on this subject [Bazanella & Reginatto, 2000, 2001; Gordillo et al., 2002] are summarized and extended by means of a codimension-two bifurcation analysis. It is shown that codimension-two bifurcation phenomena, such as a Bogdanov–Takens and zero–Hopf bifurcations, occur in IFOC as a result of parameter mismatch and certain setting of the proportional-integral speed controller. Conditions for the existence of such bifurcations are derived analytically, as long as possible, and bifurcation diagrams are presented with the help of simulation and numerical bifurcation analysis. This paper studies the chaotic behaviours of a relative rotation nonlinear dynamical system under parametric excitation and its control. The dynamical equation of relative rotation nonlinear dynamical system under parametric excitation is deduced by using the dissipation Lagrange equation. The criterion of existence of chaos under parametric excitation is given by using the Melnikov theory. The chaotic behaviours are detected by numerical simulations including bifurcation diagrams, Poincare map and maximal Lyapunov exponent. Furthermore, it implements chaotic control using non-feedback method. It obtains the parameter condition of chaotic control by the Melnikov theory.
