Circular antenna arrays (CAAs) find extensive utility in a range of cutting-edge communication applications such as 5G networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), and advanced beamforming technologies. In the realm of antenna design, the side lobes levels (SLL) in the radiation pattern hold significant importance within communication systems. This is primarily due to its role in mitigating signal interference across the entire radiation pattern's side lobes. In order to suppress the subsidiary lobe, achieve the required primary lobe orientation, and improve directivity, an optimization problem is used in this work. This paper introduces a method aimed at enhancing the radiation pattern of CAA by minimizing its SLL using a Hybrid Sooty Tern Naked Mole-Rat Algorithm (STNMRA). The simulation results show that the hybrid optimization method significantly reduces side lobes while maintaining reasonable directivity compared to the uniform array and other competitive metaheuristics. Due to the advancement of high definition, 5G technologies, the Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence, the demand for optical networks has increased widely. Optical communication networks offer various metrics, including high transmission capacity, efficient anti-interference, minimum transmission loss and robustness, and so on, that offer opportunities for communication networks. To satisfy the optical network demands, effective network resource utilization is essential. Therefore, developing a tool with improved Quality of Transmission (QoT) accuracy in optical networks is necessary. Recently, Artificial intelligence (AI) approaches have provided various opportunities to resolve these issues and the deep learning (DL) algorithms offer improved performance over the conventional methods. This paper developed a novel DL-based cognitive QoT prediction model for Quantum optical communication networks. This proposed model predicts the QoT for the QoS (Quality of Service) setup using the DL model with the transmission computation. The proposed model utilized an optimized DL model called CNN-LSTM for the prediction process using the signal and link characteristics as input features. The DL model is trained using the transmission equations. The hyperparameters of the neural network are optimized using frog leap optimization to improve the predictive performance. The experimental results highlight the enhanced and improved version of the proposed model, and the results are compared with the conventional systems in terms of performance measures. The Internet of Things (IoT) generates a large volume of data whenever devices are interconnected and exchange data across a network. Consequently, a variety of services with diverse needs arises, including capacity requirements, data quality, and latency demands. These services operate on fog computing devices, which are limited in power and bandwidth compared to the cloud. The primary challenge lies in determining the optimal location for service implementation: in the fog, in the cloud, or in a hybrid setup. This paper introduces an efficient allocation technique that moves processing closer to the network's fog side. It explores the optimal allocation of devices and services while maintaining resource utilization within an IoT architecture. The paper also examines the significance of allocating services to devices and optimizing resource utilization in fog computing. In IoT scenarios, where a wide range of services and devices coexist, it becomes crucial to effectively assign services to devices. We propose priority-based service allocation (PSA) and sort-based service allocation (SSA) techniques, which are employed to determine the optimal order for the utilizing devices to perform different services. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed technique reduces data communication over the network by 88%, which is achieved by allocating most services locally in the fog. The possibilities and ways of design and implementation of distributed information and communication systems for management of traffic and road infrastructure in road traffic that are used in intelligent transportation systems, are considered and described in the paper. First, such intelligent transportation systems are shortly described. Then, the basic architecture of one distributed information and communication system for intelligent management in road traffic is proposed. The system consists of a central part of the system and several modules or subsystems, responsible for certain individual functionsof control. Most of the paper is dedicated to the description of one practically designed and implemented module, or system, for optimizing travel and travel costs. The design and architecture of the implemented system are described. The system is intended for optimization of the length, time and cost of traveling of users in road traffic. It offers to the user several of the most favourable routes, i.e. traveling routes, between selected travel destinations, with their lengths, expected travel times and expected travel costs, on journeys that cross state borders and use roads with toll payment. It takes into account the duration of congestion at border crossings and toll payment stations, as well as the prices of tolls on the offered traveling routes. More detailed experimental research was performed on the designed and implemented system. Situations when crossing the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, and the border between Serbia and Croatia were observed practically and experimentally. Today, continuous technical and emerging advances between power communication systems and smart grids and applying swarm intelligence have increased for data sharing and analytics in our life. On the other side, Internet of things (IoT) has important key role to establish constructive interactions between smart devices and smart grid and power communication applications. For enhancing data transformation and improvements of multi-objective Quality of Service (QoS) factors, Swarm Optimization Techniques (SOT) are applied simultaneously in a cooperative smart environment to solve NP-hard problems. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis to address a new technical taxonomy and categorization of existing SOT-based smart grid applications in power communication systems in the IoT. Also, existing service and resource management case studies on smart grids and power communication systems are briefly analyzed and discussed. Existing evaluation factors on smart grid applications using SOT are represented. Optimization of the energy efficiency, fairness, and rates of the system is a vital part of communication systems. Multiple access techniques have a huge potential to enhance such performance parameters. This paper studies the performance of NOMA and OMA systems in a singular cell environment, where the cellular users are distributed randomly, and cooperative relays are considered for better system reliability. The relay nodes forward the signals to the cell-edge users. This paper considers a practical scenario where all the relay equipment is distributed with non-uniform battery power levels. The performance of OMA and NOMA schemes is compared based on the key performance indicators: sum rate, fairness, and energy efficiency. The fairness factor determines fairness in the allocation of resources to all the system's users. The performance of the two schemes is assessed in three deployment scenarios: urban, suburban, and rural scenarios. Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) technology is promising to enhance wireless communications services by providing smart radio environment. In this paper, we investigate the RIS aided cellular networks with device-to-device (D2D) users, and maximize the sum of the transmission rate of the D2D communications and the cellular networks from a new perspective. In addition to solving the typical resource allocation problems for D2D communications, this paper further optimize the wireless environment by adjusting the position and phase shift of the RIS. To solve this non-convex problem, we propose a novel decentralized double deep Q-network (D3QN) framework for the resource allocation at users and a centralized DDQN for RIS optimization at the base station (BS), which are verified to achieve the near-optimal performance with lower complexity and enhanced robustness. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed framework can achieve higher transmission rates compared to benchmarks, meanwhile meeting the quality of service (QoS) requirements at the BS and D2D users. Summary: Multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) systems perform well from the energy efficiency (EE) and the spectral efficiency (SE) points of view in fifth generation (5G) communication systems. This paper considers the operation of a MIMO system with a relay. The optimization problem relates to the EE maximization. This problem has two types of limitations, which provide a maximum transmission power and a minimum data rate for users. The encountered objective function is in a fractional form and thus it is a non‐convex function. Besides, the problem is constrained. We utilize a lower bound analysis for the data rates, some properties of the linear programming, and the maximum ratio transmission (MRT) precoding scheme to obtain a convex objective function. Using the Lagrange dual function, we obliterate the constraints of the problem and then it is easy to solve. To improve system performance, users are divided into two groups based on their channel gains, and the maximum transmission power is reasonably divided between them. A vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) is a type of Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (MANETs) that uses wireless routers inside each vehicle to act as a node. The need for effective solutions to urban traffic congestion issues has increased recently due to the growing number of automobile connections in the car communications system. To ensure a high level of service and avoid unsafe situations brought on by congestion or a broadcast storm, data dissemination in a VANET network requires an effective approach. Effective multi-objective optimization methods are required to tackle this because of the implied competing nature of multi-metric approaches. A meta-heuristic technique with a high level of solution interactions can handle efficient optimization. To accomplish this, a meta-heuristic search algorithm particle optimization was chosen. In this paper, we have created a network consisting of vehicles as nodes. The aim is to send emergency messages immediately to the stationary nodes. The normal messages will be sent to the FIFO queue. To send these messages to a destination node, multiple routes were found using Time delay-based Multipath Routing (TMR) method, and to find the optimal and secure path Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is used. Our method is compared with different optimization methods such as Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Firefly Optimization (FFO), and Enhanced Flying Ant Colony Optimization (EFACO). Significant improvements in terms of throughput and packet loss ratio, reduced end-to-end delay, rounding overhead ratio, and the energy consumption are revealed by the experimental results. The goal of 6G is to make far-reaching changes in communication systems with stricter demands, such as high throughput, extremely low latency, stronger security, and ubiquitous connectivity. Several promising techniques, such as reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs), have been introduced to achieve these goals. An RIS is a 2D low-cost array of reflecting elements that can adjust the electromagnetic properties of an incident signal. In this paper, we guarantee secrecy by using an irregular RIS (IRIS). The main idea of an IRIS is to irregularly activate reflecting elements for a given number of RIS elements. In this work, we consider a communication scenario in which, with the aid of an IRIS, a multi-antenna base station establishes a secure link with a legitimate single-antenna user in the presence of a single-antenna eavesdropper. To this end, we formulate a topology-and-precoding optimization problem to maximize the secrecy rate. We then propose a Tabu search-based algorithm to jointly optimize the RIS topology and the precoding design. Finally, we present simulation results to validate the proposed algorithm, which highlights the performance gain of the IRIS in improving secure transmissions compared to an RIS. Our results show that exploiting an IRIS can allow additional spatial diversity to be achieved, resulting in secrecy performance improvement and overcoming the limitations of conventional RIS-assisted systems (e.g., a large number of active elements). Nowadays, there is a trend to simultaneously integrate various applications in one communication system, in which multiband digital filter will play an important role in frequency selection. For digital signal processing, this paper proposes an advanced design method for the design of multiband IIR filter. This method is based on the concept of direct synthesis technique (DST) we proposed for analogue general Chebvshev filter, which is called the DST-O method here. According to specification requirement of the multiband IIR filter to be designed, main information such as transmission zeros and reflection zeros are determined by using the DST. Then, optimization is applied to achieve equal ripple in all passbands. Finally, the transfer function of the multiband IIR filter is obtained by applying the bilinear transformation on that of the analogue one. Such hybrid method fully combines the advantages of both analytical and optimal approaches, and is featured by flexibly controlling centre frequencies, bandwidths and passband ripples. An electromagnetic map (EM) can provide movable base stations with information to optimize the communication quality of temporary communication systems in disaster areas, such as areas suffering from earthquakes. In this paper, a low-cost and effective communication optimization system model that uses sensing nodes and EMs is proposed. Moreover, two EM reconstruction methods, which serve as the keys to the model, are proposed to reconstruct EMs to provide information for communication optimization according to different demands. One method is KGA-GAN-SBI, which combines the kriging algorithm, generative adversarial network and split bregman iterations, and the other is APCA-KGA-DPA, which combines the affinity propagation clustering algorithm, kriging algorithm and domain mapping algorithm. The former can satisfy the demand of high-accuracy EMs. The latter can reconstruct an EM faster than KGA-GAN-SBI. The simulation results show that both low-cost methods can reconstruct more accurate EMs than several existing algorithms; they can provide an effective way to optimize the communication quality of temporary communication and fill the gap in the study of EM applications. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can be deployed as flying base stations (BSs) to leverage the strength of line-of-sight connections and effectively support the coverage and throughput of wireless communication. This paper considers a multiuser communication system, in which a single-antenna UAV-BS serves a large number of ground users by employing non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). The max-min rate optimization problem is formulated under total power, total bandwidth, UAV altitude, and antenna beamwidth constraints. The objective of max-min rate optimization is non-convex in all optimization variables, i.e., UAV altitude, transmit antenna beamwidth, power allocation, and bandwidth allocation for multiple users. A path-following algorithm is proposed to solve the formulated problem. Next, orthogonal multiple access (OMA) and dirty paper coding (DPC)-based max-min rate optimization problems are formulated and respective path-following algorithms are developed to solve them. The numerical results show that NOMA outperforms OMA and achieves rates similar to those attained by DPC. In addition, a clear rate gain is observed by jointly optimizing all the parameters rather than optimizing a subset of parameters, which confirms the desirability of their joint optimization. This paper tackles the problem of joint active and passive beamforming optimization for an intelligent reflective surface (IRS)-assisted multi-user downlink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication system under both ideal and practical IRS phase shifts. We aim to maximize the spectral efficiency of the users by minimizing the sum mean square error (MSE) of the users’ received symbols. For this, a joint non-convex optimization problem is formulated under the sum minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion. Alternating minimization is used to break the original joint optimization problem into the separate optimization of the active precoding matrix for the base station (BS) and the matrix of phase shifts for the IRS. While the MMSE active precoder is obtained in closed-form, the IRS phase shifts are optimized iteratively using a modified version (developed in this paper) of the vector approximate message passing (VAMP) algorithm. Moreover, the underlying joint optimization problem is solved under two different models for the IRS phase shifts, namely by assuming $i$) a unimodular (i.e., ideal) constraint on the reflection coefficients and $ii$) a more practical reflection elements termination by a variable reactive load (which inherently introduces the phase-dependent amplitude attenuation in the IRS phase shifts). Simulation results are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed method under both perfect and imperfect channel state information (CSI) and to show the effect of the practical constraint on the system throughput. Cloud radio access networks (C-RAN) enable a network platform for beyond the fifth generation of communication networks (B5G), which incorporates the advances in cloud computing technologies to modern radio access networks. Recently, rate splitting multiple access (RSMA), relying on multi-antenna rate splitting (RS) at the transmitter and successive interference cancellation (SIC) at the receivers, has been shown to manage the interference in multi-antenna communication networks efficiently. This paper considers applying RSMA in C-RAN. We address the practical challenge of a transmitter that only knows the statistical channel state information (CSI) of the users. To this end, the paper investigates the problem of stochastic coordinated beamforming (SCB) optimization to maximize the ergodic sum-rate (ESR) in the network. Furthermore, we propose a scalable and robust RS scheme where the number of the common streams to be decoded at each user scales linearly with the number of users, and the common stream selection only depends on the statistical CSI. The setup leads to a challenging stochastic and non-convex optimization problem. A sample average approximation (SAA) and weighted minimum mean square error (WMMSE) based algorithm is adopted to tackle the intractable stochastic non-convex optimization and guarantee convergence to a stationary point asymptotically. The numerical simulations demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed RS strategy and show a gain up to 27% in the achievable ESR compared with state-of-the-art schemes, namely treating interference as noise (TIN) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) schemes. Nowadays, the influences of the communication structure on the frequency regulation performance in a multi-area power system are barely studied. In this paper, a decentralized frequency regulation method for a multi-area power system considering optimization of communication structure is presented, and the influence of the communication structure on the frequency regulation performance is studied. Firstly, the communication network model is described and the multi-area power system model considering communication structure is presented. Then, the optimization model of communication structure during a decentralized frequency regulation process is constructed. This model aims to speed up the convergence speed of the control together with ensuring the high algebraic connectivity of the communication structure. Quantum binary particle swarm optimization (QB-PSO) algorithm is introduced to solve this model and, based on this, the communication structure optimization process and frequency regulation method are proposed. In connected vehicular networks, it is vital to have vehicular nodes that are capable of sensing surrounding environments and exchanging messages with each other for automating and coordinating purposes. Towards this end, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), combining both sensing and communication systems to jointly utilize their resources and pursue mutual benefits, emerges as a new cost-effective solution. In ISAC, the hardware and spectrum co-sharing leads to a fundamental tradeoff between sensing and communication performance, which is not well understood except for very simple cases with the same sensing and channel states, and perfect channel state information at the receiver (CSIR). In this paper, a general point-to-point ISAC model is proposed to account for the scenarios where the sensing state is different from but correlated with the channel state, and the CSIR is not necessarily perfect. For the model considered, the optimal tradeoff is characterized by a capacity-distortion function that quantifies the best communication rate for a given sensing distortion constraint requirement. An iterative algorithm is proposed to compute such tradeoff, and a few non-trivial examples are constructed to demonstrate the benefits of ISAC as compared to the separation-based approach. Combining powerful error-correction codes (ECCs) with multipulse pulse-position modulation (MPPM) has great potential to realize high-throughput and high-reliability transmissions in free-space optical (FSO) communication systems. This paper conducts an insightful investigation on protograph low-density parity-check (PLDPC)-coded MPPM systems over Poisson channels. To be specific, we first put forward a novel type of constellations, referred to as irregular pulse-distribution (IPD) constellations, for MPPM. We also conceive a bit-level rate-adaptive (RA) scheme, which can exploit the structural property of the IPD constellations to significantly improve the convergence performance at the price of transmission-rate loss. Furthermore, with the aid of a modified protograph extrinsic information transfer (PEXIT) algorithm, we construct three enhanced PLDPC codes with code rates $1/2, 2/3$ and $3/4$ that exhibit excellent decoding thresholds over Poisson channels. This paper studies a secure multiuser multiple-input single-output (MISO) communication system aided by an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS), where multiple colluding eavesdroppers (EVEs) coexist. We aim to maximize the sum secrecy rate (SSR) via jointly optimizing the beamforming vectors, the artificial noise (AN) and the phase shifts at the IRS subject to the maximum transmit power constraint and unit modulus constraints. To address the non-convex optimization problem, we first propose an alternating optimization (AO) algorithm based on semidefinite relaxation (SDR) and obtain a high-quality sub-optimal solution. In order to reduce the high computational complexity, a low-complexity alternating optimization (LC-AO) algorithm is developed, in which the beamforming vectors, AN and the IRS phase shifts are optimized alternately by the generalized power iteration (GPI) and the Riemannian manifold conjugate gradient (RMCG) algorithm, respectively. Aerial base stations (ABSs) are expected to be important supplementary components for the 5G-and-beyond communication systems to achieve global Internet of Everything. To fully exploit the advantages of the ABSs seamless connection, in this paper, we propose a high altitude platform (HAP) and low altitude platforms (LAPs) cooperated network architecture. Specifically, the HAP can extend the network coverage and LAPs can act as relays to improve the transmission performance for hot spots. In the considered network, we investigate the sum rate maximization problem by optimizing the downlink and the uplink transmissions, respectively. In the downlink, we adopt the orthogonal frequency division multiple access technique and take the basic rate requirement into account. In addition, we optimize the height of LAPs and the spectrum allocation between the HAP and LAPs, and between the LAP and users. Then, we decouple the downlink sum rate maximation problem as three subproblems. An alternating optimization framework is designed to deal with these non-convex optimization problems, where the height and spectrum allocation are tackled in turn. In the uplink, we adopt the non-orthogonal multiple access technique, and consider the decoding threshold of the successive interference cancellation technique. Afterward, we optimize the power allocation of each user, and the spectrum allocation between users and the LAP, and between LAPs and the HAP. Finally, simulation results show the effects of spectrum allocation, height optimization and power allocation on network performance, which verify that the proposed scheme can achieve higher sum rate on both downlink and uplink in comparison with the current works. In this paper, we study a quantized feedback scheme to maximize the goodput of a finite blocklength communication scenario over a quasi-static fading channel. It is assumed that the receiver has perfect channel state information (CSI) and sends back the CSI to the transmitter over a resolution-limited error-free feedback channel. With this partial CSI, the transmitter is supposed to select the optimum transmission rate, such that it maximizes the overall goodput of the communication system. This problem has been studied for the asymptotic blocklength regime, however, no solution has so far been presented for finite blocklength. Here, we study this problem in two cases: with and without constraint on reliability. We first formulate the optimization problems and analytically solve them. Iterative algorithms that successfully exploit the system parameters for both cases are presented. It is shown that although the achievable maximum goodput decreases with shorter blocklengths and higher reliability requirements, significant improvement can be achieved even with coarsely quantized feedback schemes. Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-enhanced wireless communication is one of the critical technologies of the sixth generation mobile communication, which has recently emerged as an innovative solution to the realization of intelligent transportation. It can meet the increasing demand for high-speed railway (HSR) communications services. In this paper, we consider a train-ground TDD wireless mobile communication paradigm to deploy two IRSs on the roadside and the train roof to assist the wireless transmission for the HSR communication system. To achieve the more significant performance gain, in the uplink transmission phase, we propose the practical channel estimation framework of the MIMO system aided by double IRSs to acquire reliable channel state information (CSI) of each channel. To facilitate the processing of the three-dimension tensor, we leverage the trilinearity of the parallel factor decomposition to decompose the received signal into a two-dimensional matrix. The Doppler frequency offset compensating scheme and channel tracking scheme based on Kalman-Filter are proposed to further decrease the pilot overheads. Then, in the downlink phase, a block coordinate descent (BCD) algorithm is proposed to handle the data rate maximization problem of double IRSs communication system with the estimated CSI. We reformulate the original problem and decouple the double IRSs phase optimization problem into two single IRS phase optimization non-convex problems under the unit-modulus constraint. The Majorization-Minimization (MM) algorithm is proposed to approximate the optimal solution of the two optimization subproblems. Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces (IRS) have revolutionized wireless communication systems through their adaptive reconfiguration of the radio propagation environment. This paper compares an IRS-assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system and a relay-assisted NOMA system. The investigation delves into the impact of the number of IRS elements on the performance of a two-user NOMA system. A dynamic power allocation scheme is proposed based on the number of IRS elements. Specifically, analytical investigations reveal the range, upper, and lower bounds of power allocation coefficients. The asymptotic values of these bounds are also determined. Furthermore, an optimization problem is formulated to maximize the sum-rate while considering individual minimum rate constraints. The minimum number of passive reflecting elements required by the IRS is determined to meet the minimum target data rates for both users. Analytical calculations determine the optimal number of IRS elements, minimizing total power consumption. This paper is a comprehensive survey on the role of swarm intelligence in wireless communication networks. Symbol-level precoding (SLP), which converts the harmful multi-user interference (MUI) into beneficial signals, can significantly improve symbol-error-rate (SER) performance in multi-user communication systems. While enjoying symbolic gain, however, the complicated non-linear symbol-by-symbol precoder design suffers high computational complexity exponential with the number of users, which is unaffordable in realistic systems. In this paper, we propose a novel low-complexity grouped SLP (G-SLP) approach and develop efficient design algorithms for typical max-min fairness and power minimization problems. In particular, after dividing all users into several groups, the precoders for each group are separately designed on a symbol-by-symbol basis by only utilizing the symbol information of the users in that group, in which the intra-group MUI is exploited using the concept of constructive interference (CI) and the inter-group MUI is also effectively suppressed. In order to further reduce the computational complexity, we utilize the Lagrangian dual, Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions and the majorization-minimization (MM) method to transform the resulting problems into more tractable forms, and develop efficient algorithms for obtaining closed-form solutions to them. Extensive simulation results illustrate that the proposed G-SLP strategy and design algorithms dramatically reduce the computational complexity without causing significant performance loss compared with the traditional SLP schemes. To accommodate the stringent requirements of massive connectivity and ultra-high throughput, both reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) have been perceived as the key techniques for future communication networks. In this paper, a versatile framework is conceived to boost transmit power efficiency for RIS-enabled multi-group NOMA networks in the presence of coordinated multi-point (CoMP) reception and imperfect successive interference cancellation (SIC). Particularly, a group-level SIC (GSIC) method is proposed to eliminate the decoded group’s interference together with the well-designed transceivers to mitigate the aggregated interference, including the intra-group interference, the residual interference caused by imperfect SIC, and the interference of NOMA users decoded later. According to the novel framework, a power minimization problem is formulated by collaboratively optimizing the transmit power and the phase shifts. To render the problem tractable, an alternating scheme is developed to optimize the transmit power and the phase shifts iteratively. Specifically, the transmit powers for the users in the same group are devised by a parallel iteration algorithm, whilst the phase shifts are optimized by a sequential rotation method. From the fourth generation (4G) of cellular systems onward, wireless personal devices (WPDs) support multi-input multi-output (MIMO) communication. However, the impact of MIMO communication on the electromagnetic field (EMF) of WPD users has yet to be fully understood and analyzed at the system level. In this paper, we first provide a generic model for assessing the individual exposure dose of multi-antenna WPD users in a multi-user multi-carrier communication system. An optimization framework for minimizing this exposure dose is then developed based on our exposure model. This framework helps us to identify a new criterion, i.e., the ratio between the normalized exposure dose and the channel to noise ratio (CNR), as the main system level criterion for minimizing the individual exposure dose of multi-antenna WPD users. This criterion is further integrated in the design of two novel centralized resource allocation schemes that take advantage of the multiple antennas at the WPD to minimize the per-user exposure dose, when full or limited knowledge of each user channel is available. Our new schemes can significantly reduce the individual exposure dose of WPD users (by approximately 80%) in comparison with the most relevant existing resource allocation schemes. Our results also provide insights into the logarithmic relationship between the per-user exposure dose and the number of receive antennas (or the number of time slots), and how such a parameter can be exploited to further reduce the exposure and/or provide a higher SE while maintaining a low exposure dose. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) assisted emergency communication is an important technique for future B5G/6G scenario. The UAV is usually considered as a mobile relay to forward information from the macro base station (MBS) to the users in emergency area. In this paper, the MBS power allocation, the UAV service zone selection, and the user scheduling are jointly investigated to enhance the sum spectrum efficiency. We formulate the MBS power allocation and UAV service zone selection problem as an Markov Decision Process (MDP) in the delay ignored system (DIS) and propose a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithm based on Q-learning and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). Then the proposed DRL-based scheme is extended in time delay system (TDS) to estimate the current optimal action with the outdated channel information. We also formulate the user scheduling as a 0-1 optimization problem and solve it by dividing into sub-problems. Owing to the factors such as controllable mobility, ready-to-use technology, low cost, easy implementation, and so on, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) possesses tremendous potential to be one of the primary candidates for next-generation (6G) wireless networks. This paper presents a UAV-assisted multiuser communication network where a multiple antenna UAV base station (BS) serves multiple single antenna ground users (GUs). UAV-BS uses a laser source-based charging mechanism to fulfill its power requirement and applies simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) in the downlink in order to provide desired power to energy-constrained GUs. Also, a clustering-based hybrid multiple access technique is used that combines both orthogonal multiple access (OMA) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) signaling to transmit the information to all GUs, simultaneously. Due to the involved analytical complexity corresponding to the multiple antennas and users, we use a hybrid beamforming method for efficient communication. Next, we analyze the performance of the proposed framework in terms of user outage probabilities, their respective throughput, and average power harvested considering non-linear energy harvesting and derive expressions of these performance metrics. Moreover, we formulate an optimization problem where the throughput of one GU is maximized by optimally choosing the power allocation parameter while ensuring the desired target throughput at other GU in each cluster. We also illustrate how crucial is the optimal selection of the target rates to maximize the network performance. Simulation results are provided to validate the accuracy of derived expressions and to highlight the dominance of hybrid beamforming and hybrid NOMA compared to conventional methods on the performance of the considered network. Inspired by the promising potentialof reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-based transmission, this paper investigates the RIS-aided vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication system with the social trust, where multiple vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) links share the spectrum with vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) links. Subject to the reliability constraint of V2V links, the sum V2I link capacity is maximized, through jointly optimizing the power allocation, RIS reflection coefficients and spectrum allocation. This paper considers the finite-order filter design problem for the source and multiple full-duplex (FD) relays in a cooperative communication system under frequency-selective fading channels. The goal is to optimize the source and relay filters such that the end-to-end signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of minimum mean-squared error decision-feedback equalizer (MMSE-DFE) can be maximized. The resultant design problem is very difficult since we need to deal with self interference (SI), inter-relay interference (IRI), and inter-symbol interference (ISI) at the same time. Novel designs are then proposed to overcome the difficulty in this work. Transforming the signals into the frequency domain and using some optimization techniques, we first theoretically derive the power spectrum of the source filter and the spectrums of the relay filters. Then, the finite-order design is developed to approach the derived spectrums. Based on the weighted least-square (WLS) criterion, the Steiglitz-McBride method is exploited to obtain the filter coefficients in finite lengths. Numerical results demonstrated that complete removal of SI may not be a good strategy; preserving a certain amount of SI at each relay instead provides better SINR performance. In this paper, we investigate an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) aided millimeter wave (mmWave) communication system using hybrid precoding of subarray-connected structure at the base station. To maximize the received signal power of the user, we jointly optimize the active beamforming at the BS and passive beamforming at the IRS, respectively. Exploiting the rank-one property of mmWave channels, we transform the original problem into an approximate optimization problem and give the closed-form solution of the approximated problem. In this paper, we investigate unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) assisted communication systems that require quasi-balanced data rates in uplink (UL) and downlink (DL), as well as users’ heterogeneous traffic. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to explicitly investigate joint UL-DL optimization for UAV assisted systems under heterogeneous requirements. A hybrid-mode multiple access (HMMA) scheme is proposed toward heterogeneous traffic, where non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) targets high average data rate, while orthogonal multiple access (OMA) aims to meet users’ instantaneous rate demands by compensating for their rates. HMMA enables a higher degree of freedom in multiple access and achieves a superior minimum average rate among users than the UAV assisted NOMA or OMA schemes. Under HMMA, a joint UL-DL resource allocation algorithm is proposed with a closed-form optimal solution for UL/DL power allocation to achieve quasi-balanced average rates for UL and DL. Furthermore, considering the error propagation in successive interference cancellation (SIC) of NOMA, an enhanced-HMMA scheme is proposed, which demonstrates high robustness against SIC error and a higher minimum average rate than the HMMA scheme. In Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) broadcast channels (BCs), the transmitter simultaneously broadcasts signals to multiple receivers at same frequency band, resulting in that the communication capacity is affected by both interference, channel fading and random noise. Although channel fading can be mitigated by transceivers, the signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) of the practical communication system is still dynamically changing due to the randomly changing noise. Traditional MIMO transceiver optimization algorithms can not flexibly adapt to the dynamic changes of SNR, resulting in large performance degradation. In this paper, we comprehensively consider signal power and signal space dimensions of the received signal in MIMO BCs, and propose two transceiver optimization algorithms which can dynamically adapt to the variance of SNRs. In the proposed algorithms, SNR is adopted to be an adjustment factor to cope with its variance. When SNR is low, i.e, large noise, the algorithm parameters are automatically adjusted so that the signal power is preserved as much as possible to combat the loss of communication capacity caused by large random noise. Correspondingly, under the condition of high SNR environment, the algorithm parameters are adjusted automatically to effectively compress the inter-user-interference (IUI) and intra-user-inter-stream-interference (ISI) by optimizing signal space dimensions. Simulation results show that in different SNR environments, the proposed algorithms can automatically adjust the focus of optimization, so that the optimization of signal power and signal space dimensions can automatically adapt to different SNRs. The rapid development of maritime activities has led to the emergence of more and more computation-intensive applications. In order to meet the huge demand for wireless communications in maritime environment, mobile edge computing (MEC) is considered as an effective solution to provide powerful computing capabilities for maritime terminals of resource scarcity or latency sensitive. A basic technology to implement MEC is virtual machine (VM) multiplexing, through which multi-task parallel computing on a server is realized. In this paper, a two-layer unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) maritime communication network with a centralized top-UAV (T-UAV) and a group of distributed bottom-UAVs (B-UAVs) is established and MEC is used on T-UAV. We aim to solve the latency minimization problem for both communication and computation in this maritime UAV swarm mobile edge computing network. We reformulate this problem into a Markov decision process (MDP), since it is a non-convex and multiply constrained but has the characteristics of MDP. Based on this MDP model, we take deep reinforcement learning (DRL) as our tool to propose a deep Q-network (DQN) and a deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) algorithms to optimize the trajectory of T-UAV and configuration of virtual machines (VMs). In this paper, we investigate an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication system, where the trajectories of multi-UAVs are designed for the data collection mission of IoT nodes. We aim at minimizing the mission time with constraints of UAV’s maximum speed and acceleration, the collision avoidance, and communication interference among UAVs. We propose a three-step approach to solve this problem, which is based on the K-means algorithm, and Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) with a distributed manner and a centralized manner. The explosion of mobile communication devices and diversification of emerging media content put forward higher requirements for mobile communication networks in various aspects such as overall throughput, fairness and user experience. Fortunately, non-orthogonal multiplexing (NOM) techniques such as layered-division-multiplexing (LDM) and the flexible compatibility of physical layer design in fifth generation mobile networks (5G) open up the possibility to tackle the challenges. In this paper, we propose to use LDM-based layered multicast to improve network performance, where the multicast content is delivered with differentiated quality in different LDM signal layers. For various performance optimization purposes such as maximum throughput, proportional fairness, minimum dissatisfaction index, and maximum service satisfaction index, a unified analysis framework is developed. Under this framework, we formulate a joint optimization problem of layer-user pairing and power allocation. In order to solve this problem, an optimization algorithm based on subproblem decomposition is proposed, which arranges each multicast subscriber of the multicast content to receive the most suitable LDM layer, and finds the optimal transmit power and data rate for each layer. Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of LDM-based layered multicast over existing multicast approaches while guaranteeing the coverage and the lower limit of user experience. This paper investigates and analyzes the number of reflecting elements for guaranteed energy- and spectral-efficient intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted communication systems. As opposed to previous works where the energy efficiency (EE)/the spectral efficiency (SE) maximization or the EE-SE tradeoff was considered, our goal is to minimize the number of reflecting elements in the IRS-assisted system. Besides, both the EE and the SE constraints are considered in the number minimization problem, which has not been addressed in existing works. However, both the EE and the SE performance do not admit exact closed-form expressions due to the non-convexity incurred by joint beamforming and phase shift design. In order to make the optimization problem tractable, we resort to their performance bounds for problem reformulation. By decomposing the problem into two sub-problems, we are able to derive closed-form expressions for the minimum number of reflecting elements, and both the coherent phase shift (CPS)-oriented solution and the random phase shift (RPS)-oriented solution are proposed for comparison. In order to shed light on the practical design, the relationship between the derived number of reflecting elements is established for both schemes, and the upper bounds on both the EE and the SE thresholds and the placement of the IRS to achieve only one reflecting element are obtained. Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) are capable of enhancing the capacity of wireless networks at a low cost. In practical RIS-assisted communication systems, the acquisition of channel state information (CSI) and RIS reflection optimization constitute a pair of challenges. In this paper, a low-complexity channel estimation and passive beamforming design is proposed. First of all, we conceive a low-complexity framework for maximizing the achievable rate of RIS-assisted multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems having discrete phase shifts at each RIS element. In contrast to existing solutions, the proposed arrangement partitions the channel training stage into several phases, where the RIS reflection coefficients are pre-designed and the effective superposed channel is estimated instead of separately training the source-destination and source-RIS-destination links. Based on this, the active beamformer can be designed at low complexity and the RIS reflection optimization is performed by selecting that one from the pre-designed training set which maximizes the achievable rate. Secondly, we propose novel techniques for generating the training set of RIS reflection coefficients. The theoretical performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed and compared to the optimal RIS configuration. Finally, our simulation results demonstrate that the proposed framework is more competitive than its existing counterparts when relying on imperfect CSI, especially for rapidly time-varying channels having short channel coherence time. In this paper, an aerial heterogeneous wireless network consists of a high altitude platform (HAP) and low altitude platforms (LAPs) as aerial base stations (ABSs) in a downlink orthogonal division multiple access (OFDMA) transmission is investigated. Two types of spectrum sharing, including spectrum underlay access (SUA) and spectrum overlay access (SOA) are employed to evaluate the inter-tier interference. Distributed problem formulation and solving method are used to reduce the computational complexity, communication overhead and system latency. Subcarrier assignment and power allocation in spectral efficiency (SE), energy efficiency (EE) and transmission power optimization problems are accomplished by the proposed two-layer algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, first, subcarrier assignment based on constraints of the optimization problems is carried out to cover both SUA and SOA with low computational complexity. Second, the proposed algorithm performs power allocation. The simulation results show the relation between spectrum reuse and inter-tier interference, such that system SE, EE and the number of served users are maximized when both spectrum reuse and inter-tier interference management are performed together. Virtual reality (VR) holds tremendous potential to advance our society, expected to make impact on quality of life, energy conservation, and the economy. To bring us closer to this vision, the present paper investigates a novel communications system that integrates for the first time scalable multi-layer 360° video tiling, viewport-adaptive rate-distortion optimal resource allocation, and VR-centric edge computing and caching, to enable next generation high-quality untethered VR streaming. Our system comprises a collection of 5G small cells that can pool their communication, computing, and storage resources to collectively deliver scalable 360° video content to mobile VR clients at much higher quality. The major contributions of the paper are the rigorous design of multi-layer 360° tiling and related models of statistical user navigation, analysis and optimization of edge-based multi-user VR streaming that integrates viewport adaptation and server cooperation, and base station 360° video packet scheduling. We also explore the possibility of network coded data operation and its implications for the analysis, optimization, and system performance we pursue in this setting. The advances introduced by our framework over the state-of-the-art comprise considerable gains in delivered immersion fidelity, featuring much higher 360° viewport peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and VR video frame rates and spatial resolutions. In an active power distribution system, Volt-VAR optimization (VVO) methods are employed to achieve network-level objectives such as minimization of network power losses. The commonly used model-based centralized and distributed VVO algorithms perform poorly in the absence of a communication system and with model and measurement uncertainties. In this paper, we proposed a model-free local Volt-VAR control approach for network-level optimization that does not require communication with other decision-making agents. The proposed algorithm is based on extremum-seeking approach that uses only local measurements to minimize the network power losses. To prove that the proposed extremum-seeking controller converges to the optimum solution, we also derive mathematical conditions for which the loss minimization problem is convex with respect to the control variables. Local controllers pose stability concerns during highly variable scenarios. Thus, the proposed extremum-seeking controller is integrated with an adaptive-droop control module to provide a stable local control response. The proposed approach is validated using IEEE 4-bus and IEEE 123-bus systems and achieves the loss minimization objective while maintaining the voltage within the pre-specific limits even during highly variable DER(distributed energy resources) generation scenarios. Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) are envisioned to be a disruptive wireless communication technique that is capable of reconfiguring the wireless propagation environment. In this paper, we study a free-space RIS-assisted multiple-input single-output (MISO) communication system in far-field operation. To maximize the received power from the physical and electromagnetic nature point of view, a comprehensive optimization, including beamforming of the transmitter, phase shifts of the RIS, orientation and position of the RIS is formulated and addressed. After exploiting the property of line-of-sight (LoS) links, we derive closed-form solutions of beamforming and phase shifts. For the non-trivial RIS position optimization problem in arbitrary three-dimensional space, a dimensional-reducing theory is proved. The simulation results show that the proposed closed-form beamforming and phase shifts approach the upper bound of the received power. The robustness of our proposed solutions in terms of the perturbation is also verified. Moreover, the RIS significantly enhances the performance of the mmWave/THz communication system. In this paper, we study an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled wireless powered communication network, where a UAV serves multiple energy constrained wireless sensor nodes (WSNs). In such a network, a UAV transmits wireless power to a group of WSNs which exploits the harvested power to transfer their own information towards the UAV in the uplink. For practical scenarios, a nonlinear energy harvesting saturation model is considered at WSNs. We aim to design resource allocation which maximizes the achievable sum rate in the uplink and minimizes the downlink transmit power simultaneously. The design is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP) which optimizes the UAV's 3D position, its transmit power, the time splitting ratio, the uplink transmission time and the beamwidth angle of the UAV. The formulated problem is a non-convex problem which is generally intractable. To address the MOOP, a weighted Tchebycheff method is proposed. A popular technique of designing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems relies on optimizing the positive semidefinite covariance matrix at the source. In this paper, a unified MIMO optimization framework based on the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions is proposed. In this framework, with the aid of matrix optimization theory, presents a generic optimal transmit covariance matrix for MIMO systems with diverse objective functions subject to various power constraints and different levels of channel state information (CSI). Specifically, fundamentally reveals that for a diverse family of MIMO systems, the optimal transmit covariance matrices associated with different objective functions under various power constraints can be derived in a unified generic water-filling-like form. When applying to the case of multiple general power constraints, we firstly equivalently transform multiple power constraints into a single counterpart by introducing multiple weighting factors based on Pareto optimization theory. The optimal weighting factors can be found by the proposed modified subgradient method. On the other hand, for the imperfect MIMO system with statistical CSI errors, we firstly address the non-convexity of the robust optimization problem by following the idea of alternating optimization. Finally, our numerical results verify the optimal solution structure in and the global optimality of the proposed modified subgradient method, as well as demonstrate the performance advantages of the proposed alternating optimization algorithm. Millimeter wave (mmWave) communication enables ultra-high rate data transmission in wireless environments, but its performance depends on blockages between the transmitter and receiver significantly. To overcome the blockage problem, we consider two approaches: multi-connectivity and network densification. The multi-connectivity opens up a new paradigm for user centric communication, where each user autonomously chooses multiple base stations (BSs) to attain high quality services. The network densification allows network operators to deploy many BSs in a limited area, thereby providing qualified communication services to users. In this paper, we study user equipment (UE) association control in user centric mmWave communication environments. When a UE arrives, the network provides the UE with information on the resource status of adjacent BSs, and the UE generates a set of candidate BSs. For access control, we formulate two optimization problems that aim to minimize peak load and sum load, respectively. They are non-convex and combinatorial, so their computational complexity grows exponentially with the problem size. As a solution, we develop an access pricing and peak load limit control scheme. Through numerical experiments, we investigate its impact on the performance of mmWave communication systems. In this paper, we consider the secure transmission problem in an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted mmWave networks in the presence of an eavesdropper. The UAV base station (UAV-BS) and IRS are deployed to overcome the blockages. Artificial noise (AN) is exploited against the eavesdropper. Aiming to maximize the secrecy rate, we jointly design the positions and beamforming of UAV-BS and IRS, where the positions here represent the deployed position of the UAV-BS and the activation position of the IRS. Meanwhile, the maximum transmits power, minimum height constraint for UAV-BS, and the legitimate receiver minimum rate constraint are required. To obtain the optimal UAV-BS position, the elevation angle-dependent probabilistic LoS air-to-ground channel is exploited in this network. To tackle the formulated non-convex problem, we divide it into two subproblems: (1) design UAV-BS and IRS positions; (2) design UAV-BS and IRS beamforming. Moreover, to reduce the complexity, we propose an ideal beamforming model to find the near-optimal positions of UAV-BS and IRS. Then, semidefinite relaxation (SDR) is utilized to cope with the highly coupled and high-dimensional variable vectors. Finally, we obtain a sub-optimal solution by an efficient and low-complexity alternating optimization algorithm. Phase-only beamforming (POB) plays an important role in modern radar and communication systems. The NP-hard nature of POB makes it difficult to be solved for large-scale antenna arrays. This paper studies two fast and simple GP algorithms for the problem of POB. First we give a new interpretation of the GP method under the framework of sequential quadratic programming (SQP). Then we prove that the GP operation gives a strict global minimizer of the subproblem of SQP. Moreover, the larger the step size in GP operation, the smaller the minimum value of the subproblem. Based on this observation we design two variable step size GP (VSGP) algorithms that improve the convergence speed of the GP method significantly. Furthermore, the VSGP algorithms have a simple structure, making them easy to be implemented in chips. Finally, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) points of the POB problem. We also prove that, for any initialization, all limit points of the iterates generated by the VSGP algorithms converge to the KKT points. Both the jammer and the eavesdropper pose severe threat to wireless communications due to the broadcast nature of wireless channels. In this paper, an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted secure communication system is considered, where a base station (BS) wishes to reliably convey information to a user, in the presence of both a jammer and an eavesdropper whose transmit informations are not completely known. Specifically, with the imperfect third-party node's channel state information (CSI) and no knowledge of the jammer's transmit beamforming, we aim to maximize the system achievable rate by jointly designing the BS's transmit beamforming and the IRS's reflect beamforming, while limiting the information leakage to the potential eavesdropper. Due to the non-convexity and intractability of the original problem induced by the incompleted information, we utilize the auxiliary variables, Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, and General Sign-Definiteness transformation to convert the original optimization problem into a tractable convex optimization problem, and then obtain the high-quality optimal solution by using the successive convex approximation and penalty convex concave procedure. Numerical simulations demonstrate the superiority of our proposed optimization algorithm compared with existing approaches, and also reveal the impact of key parameters on the achievable system performance. Summary: Recently, cognitive radio (CR) has evolved as a next‐generation communication technology that has the potential to use the radio frequency (RF) spectrum in most efficient manner as compared to the other existing cellular communication technologies. The performance of CR system largely depends upon the accuracy of the sensing results. However, the sensing ambiguities such as false alarm and miss detection cause spectrum underutilization and severe interference to the primary user (PU), respectively. In this paper, both issues are addressed by modifying the conventional frame structure by introducing two sensing slots along with a transmission slot to overcome sensing ambiguities. For the targeted probability of detection, the first sensing slot is kept small and fixed, and sensing results are stored in a flag bit up to that duration. The second sensing slot (optional) is used whenever the flag bit status varies in the current frame from the previous frame. Considering sensing throughput trade‐off issue of CR, the second sensing slot is optimized to enhance the effective throughput and energy efficiency of the secondary communication system. The simulation results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme with a modified frame structure, which is capable to achieve 65% higher energy efficiency than the conventional scheme when PU is present in a channel, that is, P(H1) = 1.
