The article focuses on the political relations between China and the Soviet Union. Communist China, the world's most populous nation, and the Soviet Union, the second-greatest industrial and nuclear power, are shattering the once-monolithic Communist bloc and splitting virtually every revolutionary party. Some of the most intriguing evidence of conflict is in the hands of the United States, but it remains unpublished because Washington D.C. has not yet decided how or whether to exploit the situation. Communist China's only European ally in the dispute, Albania, has indirectly applied to the West for aid against Soviet economic sanctions.
