With the decrease of sheet thickness, the stiffness and buckling behavior of automobile body panel are more and more concerned. In this paper, the stiffness and buckling behavior of panels with stamping-induced imperfection is studied. Imperfections caused in drawing and springback are obtained by finite element analysis and introduced to define the initial state of the panel before indenting. The indenting procedure is simulated in ABAQUS Standard. In order to solve the buckling problem, a viscous pressure that is proportional to the relative velocity between surfaces is added artificially. For comparison, a simplified model in which imperfections are not considered is also established. Comparing the simulation results with the reference experiment, we find that the stamping-induced imperfections lead to a more severe oil canning phenomena under a buckling load, although they increase panel's initial stiffness a bit. Moreover, among all stamping-induced imperfections, the geometrical imperfection (surface deflection) is beneficial to increase panel's buckling load, and the material imperfections (residual stress and uneven thickness) help to decrease panel's buckling load and can make oil canning more severe during post-buckling. Influences of blank holder force, sheet thickness and material property on panel stiffness and buckling behavior are also studied. This paper deals with the determination of application limits of an already presented method [1] to predict distortion of joined car body assemblies caused by mechanical joining technologies. The investigated method is particularly developed concerning the demands coming from the application in the automotive body production. Parameter studies in simulation and experiment are presented which show the influence of pre-straining and clamping on the joints properties and dimensional accuracy of the assembly. The gained cognitions allow conclusions about the quality of prediction of dimensional accuracy using the proposed simplified model in different joining situations. Hemming is a forming operation used in the automotive industry to join inner and outer components during the assembly of closures. These are typically opening parts of the body-in-white with additional requirements to their visual appearance. A suitable production concept of hemming operation which satisfies quality, capacity and cost requirements is determined during hemming planning activities. A digital tool to facilitate these activities and minimize the amount of trial and error iterations in try-out phase is presented in this paper. This tool can be used to define process plan, active tool surfaces and suitable process parameters for both die hemming and roll hemming operations. In case of early feasibility studies, when the die layout of the drawing operation is still not available, 3D part geometry is used directly to develop the concept of hemming process. Advanced validation studies, aimed at process optimization and controlling defects associated with hemming, can be based on complete simulation of all forming operations. Validation and analysis of developed concepts of hemming operation is done using the standard AutoForm-Incremental solver. Submesh strategy and special algorithm for contact description between inner and outer parts were implemented to ensure that accurate simulation results can be obtained within reasonable calculation time. Performance of the new software tool for hemming planning and accuracy of simulation results are demonstrated using several simple benchmarks and a real industrial part. Modern automotive design has been faced with the weight reduction problem to meet the CO2 emissions standard while achieving high safety and compact design. Such being the case, most car makers want to use the ultra high strength steels (UHSS). But there are several problems when such steels are used, due to presumed lack of formability. Since the disadvantage such as above, it has been suggested that UHSS need special forming methods or it should be used only limited process like simple bending, by many automotive research institutes. To overcome these shortcomings, Twinning Induced Plasticity (TWIP) steel for improved strength and formability has been developed by steel making company, including POSCO, Korea. Because of its characteristics, it is expected to be widely used in automotive parts. This paper aims at finding out several ways how to make effective use of TWIP steel in automotive parts. Especially, comprising about from 15 to 18% manganese and from 1.5 to 2% aluminum which was developed by POSCO for application of the automotive parts will be considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As development of car body with light weight and enhanced safety became one of the hottest issues in the auto industry, the advanced high strength steels have been broadly applied to various automotive parts over the last few years. Corresponding to this trend, POSCO has developed various types of cold and hot rolled AHSSs such as DP, TRIP, CP and FB, and continues to develop new types of steel in order to satisfy the requirement of OEMs more extensively. To provide optimal technical supports to customers, POSCO has developed more advanced EVI concept, which includes the concept of CE/SE, VA/VE, VI and PP as well as the conventional EVI strategy. To realize this concept, POSCO not only supports customers with material data, process guideline, and evaluation of formability, weld-ability, paint-ability and performance but also provides parts or sub-assemblies which demand highly advanced technologies. Especially, to accelerate adoption of AHSS in autobody, POSCO has tried to come up with optimal solutions to AHSS forming. Application of conventional forming technologies has been restricted more and more by relatively low formability of AHSS with high tensile-strength. To overcome the limitation in the forming, POSCO has recently developed new forming technologies such as hydro-forming, hot press forming, roll forming and form forming. Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (FSAE) is a competition for students to construct formula student car. One of an essential part of a formula student car is its chassis. Chassis is an internal vehicle frame which holds all another part of the vehicle and secures the driver. The team have to design their chassis and tests their design to achieve the best chassis that fulfill the regulation. This paper contains chassis design from Bengawan FSAE Team and some FEA tests to find out the Tensile Strength, Torsional Rigidity, and Von Misses Stress of Formula SAE car. Torsional rigidity was found by applying the static torsional test. The results from torsional rigidity test are a maximum deformation of 9.9512 mm with 1.7064 safety factor, and 35.935 MPa maximum Von Misses Stress. Moreover, then the result of the vertical bending strength test is 8.1214 mm max deformation with safety factor 4.2717, and 29.226 MPa maximum Von Misses Stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
