In this paper, a three-term conjugate gradient algorithm is developed for solving large-scale unconstrained optimization problems. The search direction at each iteration of the algorithm is determined by rectifying the steepest descent direction with the difference between the current iterative points and that between the gradients. It is proved that such a direction satisfies the approximate secant condition as well as the conjugacy condition. The strategies of acceleration and restart are incorporated into designing the algorithm to improve its numerical performance. Global convergence of the proposed algorithm is established under two mild assumptions. By implementing the algorithm to solve 75 benchmark test problems available in the literature, the obtained results indicate that the algorithm developed in this paper outperforms the existent similar state-of-the-art algorithms. Abstract: Recently, Gandomi and Alavi proposed a meta-heuristic optimization algorithm, called Krill Herd (KH), for global optimization [Gandomi AH, Alavi AH. Krill Herd: A New Bio-Inspired Optimization Algorithm. Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation, 17(12), 4831–4845, 2012.]. This paper represents an optimization method to global optimization using a novel variant of KH. This method is called the Stud Krill Herd (SKH). Similar to genetic reproduction mechanisms added to KH method, an updated genetic reproduction schemes, called stud selection and crossover (SSC) operator, is introduced into the KH during the krill updating process dealing with numerical optimization problems. The introduced SSC operator is originated from original Stud genetic algorithm. In SSC operator, the best krill, the Stud, provides its optimal information for all the other individuals in the population using general genetic operators instead of stochastic selection. This approach appears to be well capable of solving various functions. Several problems are used to test the SKH method. In addition, the influence of the different crossover types on convergence and performance is carefully studied. Abstract: Accurate kinetic models are of great significance for the simulation and analysis for hydrogen fuel cells. The proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell is a complex nonlinear, multi-variable system. The mathematical modeling of PEM fuel cell usually leads to nonlinear parameter estimation problems which often contain more than one minimum. In this paper, a novel bio-inspired P systems based optimization algorithm, named BIPOA, is proposed to solve PEM fuel cell model parameter estimation problems. In BIPOA, the nested membrane structure and new rules such as adaptive mutation rule, partial migration rule and autophagy rule are combined to improve the algorithm''s global search capacities and convergence accuracy. Studies on some benchmark test functions indicate that the BIPOA outperforms the other two methods (PSOPS and GAs) in both convergence speed and accuracy. In addition, experimental results reveal that the model predictive outputs are in better agreement with the actual experimental data. Therefore, the BIPOA is a helpful and reliable technique for estimating the PEM fuel cell model parameters and is available to other complex parameter estimation problems of fuel cell models. Abstract: A directed searching optimization algorithm (DSO) is proposed to solve constrained optimization problems in this paper. The proposed algorithm includes two important operations — position updating and genetic mutation. Position updating enables the non-best solution vectors to mimic the best one, which is beneficial to the convergence of the DSO; genetic mutation can increase the diversity of individuals, which is beneficial to preventing the premature convergence of the DSO. In addition, we adopt the penalty function method to balance objective and constraint violations. We can obtain satisfactory solutions for constrained optimization problems by combining the DSO and the penalty function method. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm can be an efficient alternative on solving constrained optimization problems. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Last few years have witnessed the development of various multi-objective evolutionary algorithms since they allow the generation of the overall Pareto front for multi-objective optimizations. With the problems in the real-world becoming more and more complex, however, no reported work in the literature focuses on the high-dimensional objective optimizations (HOPs). In this paper, we propose an evolutionary algorithm named HOEA (high-dimensional objective evolutionary algorithm) for HOPs. By adopting the concept of nonlinear definition for optimizing object, HOPs can be solved by HOEA, while the well-known multi-objective evolutionary algorithms work poorly on HOPs. We further analyze the nonlinear dynamic properties of HOEA on the basis of martingale theoretical framework. The theoretical results indicate that this new algorithm is indeed capable of achieving convergence. We also conduct experiments on HOEA with two representative test instances. The experimental results either confirm our theoretical results or show that the proposed algorithm is efficient and effective for HOPs. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The power method is an algorithm for computing the largest eigenvalue of matrix A in absolute value. To find the other eigenvalues one can apply the power method to the matrix for some shift σ. This scheme is called the inverse iteration method. Both of these two methods produce a convergence sequence and the limit is approximated by one of the iterates. In the chosen iterate, it may be difficult to estimate the global error, consisting of the truncation error and the round-off error. In this paper, by using the CESTAC method and the CADNA library, we propose a method for computing the optimal iterate, the iterate for which the global error is minimal. In the proposed method the accuracy of the computed eigenvalue may also be estimated. Some numerical examples are given to show the efficiency of the method. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: In this paper, we introduce a vector-valued Tikhonov-type regularization algorithm for an extended-valued multiobjective optimization problem. Under some mild conditions, we prove that any sequence generated by this algorithm converges to a weak Pareto optimal solution of the multiobjective optimization problem. Abstract: In this paper, by means of a new efficient identification technique of active constraints and the method of strongly sub-feasible direction, we propose a new sequential system of linear equations (SSLE) algorithm for solving inequality constrained optimization problems, in which the initial point is arbitrary. At each iteration, we first yield the working set by a pivoting operation and a generalized projection; then, three or four reduced linear equations with a same coefficient are solved to obtain the search direction. After a finite number of iterations, the algorithm can produced a feasible iteration point, and it becomes the method of feasible directions. Moreover, after finitely many iterations, the working set becomes independent of the iterates and is essentially the same as the active set of the KKT point. Under some mild conditions, the proposed algorithm is proved to be globally, strongly and superlinearly convergent. Finally, some preliminary numerical experiments are reported to show that the algorithm is practicable and effective. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: In this paper, we present a nonmonotone conic trust region method based on line search technique for unconstrained optimization. The new algorithm can be regarded as a combination of nonmonotone technique, line search technique and conic trust region method. When a trial step is not accepted, the method does not resolve the trust region subproblem but generates an iterative point whose steplength satisfies some line search condition. The function value can only be allowed to increase when trial steps are not accepted in close succession of iterations. The local and global convergence properties are proved under reasonable assumptions. Numerical experiments are conducted to compare this method with the existing methods. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: This paper presents an affine scaling optimal path approach in association with nonmonotonic interior backtracking line search technique for nonlinear optimization subject to linear constraints. We shall employ the eigensystem decomposition and affine scaling mapping to form affine scaling optimal curvilinear path very easily. By using interior backtracking line search technique, each iterate switches to trial step of strict interior feasibility. The nonmonotone criterion is used to speed up the convergence progress in the contours of objective function with large curvature. Theoretical analysis is given which prove that the proposed algorithm is globally convergent and has a local superlinear convergence rate under some reasonable conditions. Abstract: This paper studies a successive partitioning group correction algorithm and its some modified algorithms for solving large scale sparse unconstrained optimization problems. The methods depend on a symmetric consistent partition of the columns of the Hessian matrix. A q-superlinear convergence result and an r-convergence rate estimate show that the methods have good local convergence properties. The numerical results show that the methods, especially the modified algorithms, may be competitive with some current used algorithms. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: In this paper, a kind of nonlinear optimization problems with nonlinear inequality constraints are discussed, and a new SQP feasible descent algorithm for solving the problems is presented. At each iteration of the new algorithm, a convex quadratic program (QP) which always has feasible solution is solved and a master direction is obtained, then, an improved (feasible descent) direction is yielded by updating the master direction with an explicit formula, and in order to avoid the Maratos effect, a height-order correction direction is computed by another explicit formula of the master direction and the improved direction. The new algorithm is proved to be globally convergent and superlinearly convergent under mild conditions without the strict complementarity. Furthermore, the quadratic convergence rate of the algorithm is obtained when the twice derivatives of the objective function and constrained functions are adopted.
